  • With Blender's Geometry nodes you can do a lot of fun things that used to be a tedious pain to deal with... like making geometry based outlines to help your models look more catroony.

This isn't a good setup. You're scaling from the object origin instead of the normals. Notice how the donut doesn't have an outline in the middle because of it. You need to replace the scale elements node with a set position node. Use the normal node scaled by some amount (your line thickness) as the offset input for the set position node. The required scale is very low so I like to multiply an integer which will by your line thickness parameter by 0.0001 to make it more readable. Also if you want this to work in cycles you need to use a mix shader with a transparent bsdf in the bottom input and whatever you want for the outline in the top one. For the factor input you use the backfacing property from the geometry node.

of course, that's a better way of doing things. this is just a basic simple setup that's useful for beginner's to play around with.

Oh it worked, but only in the geometry nodes tab for some reason

do you have the output going into a preview node by any chance? instead of into the output node?

only in the geo nodes tab because this isn't a shader nodes setup...

Check back over the tutorial or with the project download you probably didn’t connect up a few nodes to the input node

Is there a way to make the outline like a neon white Color?

you can make the material for the outline white. if you're looking for more complex looking outlines, you'll likely have to do that through post processing instead of actual geometry though.
