    I love this game but barely get to find English content about it. I wish the series was more popular in America. Thank you for making this video.

      You're welcome. I really wanted to make this for a long time ;)
      You'd think at least the newer Angeliques will get localized considering the many other Otome games that get translated. Guess Koei is not interested in it?

      @@bapsago yea I googled to see if any would would translate the games and the answer I got was use auto visual translate through a phone to play the games.

    As a fan of video game history, I have to admit I have a lot of blind spots. This well-researched video managed to cover a LOT of stuff I had no idea about! Ruby Party, South Korean gaming in the 90’s, Koei’s wholesome history, dating sims, etc. I’ve subscribed! Cannot wait to see what other games you decide to cover!

      Haha, same here. There are a ton things I don't know about gaming. I was just elaborating on stuff I already knew(thanks internet!), and very glad you liked it.
      Thank you for the sub! I'll try hard to keep you interested.

    Amusingly enough I was planning to do a video on this game next month - specifically the PCFX version - so it's nice to hear another persons perspective on the game before that! And your summary helps a lot to understand the game mechanics better, cause try as I might (and I'm not terrible at Angelique... I think!) I'm not great at comprehending strategy games.
    Do you mind if I give you a shout out and point to this video in my review of the game?

    • @bapsago
      @bapsago  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd be very interested to see a console-focused Angelique review.
      Of course shout outs are super welcome. Yay!!
      One big difference I noticed is that the PC-FX version has more voice samples.
      In PS&SS the Guardians are not voiced in the opening scene(15:18 in the review), and their 'welcome messages(when you walk into their office)' are all voiced in the PC-FX and Win95 while in PS&SS only the last two ones are voiced.
      Also the music stops every time the characters talk, right? Or is than an emulator problem.

      @@bapsago Awesome!! I'll give you a shout out then ^^
      Sadly it's not just an emulator issue, it's like that on my PC-FX too. I'm not really sure why cause Pia Carrot could play voice and music at the same time, but in Angelique you just have to deal with voices, music, FMVs, and some sounds fighting for priority x_x

    This was a great, informative review. Glad I was able to find a channel that covers these types of games because I've wanted to try them but due to the language barrier it's not easy, and there's not a lot of content covering them either.

    He is resident upright leader, not uptight. Uptight means very stressed and Julious is way to chill and composed for that.

      Perhaps I should have stuck with 'strict' from the original script. Appreciate the input!

      @@bapsago Julious is strict but not authoritarian. He is the type to reward people just for simple deeds.

      You caught me! I'm one of those people who give protagonists with names like DAD and laugh to myself lol
      My personal favourite is Toilet for Angelique and McDonald's for Rosalia's planet.

    You can wreck the whole guardian dynamics through in game mechanics that were put there for flavor?

      The game tries to reset it after a few days so you have to be hardcore dedicated as well. Reminds me of all the Juli/Cla and Oscar/Lumi fujoshis back in the day.

    Another superb review!
    My only exposure to this series, prior to this review, was back when I watched Arino from Game Center CX tackle with the third entry on PS2. Spoiler alert--he got spurned :D

    • @bapsago
      @bapsago  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much! It ended up too long-ish but I felt the need to explain some things.
      I understand Arino getting the bad ending; even I didn't want to play Angelique Trois considering how.. not so good some character designs looked lol
      There were other factors as well, which I will probably get to in the eventual review ;)

    Do you have some idea why eventually came Otome Game Isekai?

    • @bapsago
      @bapsago  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you asking what the first Isekai Otome game was? I'm pretty sure it was [Fantastic Fortune](1998) by Fujitsu, where one of the selectable players is a high school student from Japan who got summoned to a fantasy world. Ruby Party also developed their own Isekai Otome game [Haruka naru toki no naka de] in 2000.
      If you are asking on the origins, the 'shoujo manga protagonist falling into a different world' genre has been popular for a long time, such as [Crest of the Royal Family] from way back in 1976, and [Fushigi Yuugi] in 1992. An Isekai Otome game was bound to happen after Angelique.

      @@bapsago I’m talking about those like My Next Life as a Villainess and stuff

    • @bapsago
      @bapsago  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Funny thing is despite becoming a trope in the 'Villainess genre' novels([Kenkyo Kenjitsu wo Motto ni Ikite Orimasu!](2013) starting everything and [My Next Life as a Villainess] making some readers believe that an Otome game's Villainess route only leads to a bad ending), there's rarely a 'villainess who takes away your man' in actual otome games. They're based on shoujo manga tropes more than anything. In otome games there are rival characters like Rosalia, but not as romantic rivals. Probably there are some in smaller titles, now with the Villainess genre getting popular and all that.
      Afaik the closest to a romantic rival you can get is probably the girlfriends from Tokimemo GS 1,2 but they aren't exactly evil. Threatening enough to be eliminated starting from GS3 though.
