This video inspired me to re-watch the entire Angelique saga on your channel! Since I'm already so immersed in the world and the characters, I guess I'll have to figure out which Angelique game to play! It will be one of the newer ones, though, as my kanji skills disintegrate at the sight of older graphics :D
Ange 1, 2, Tenkuu no Requiem, Trois, Etoile, Maren no Rokukishi, and Neo Angelique all share the same world AND you have to read/watch the manga, novels, OVAs & Drama CDs to catch up on the 'full lore'. So yeah.. play the 2015 remake(PS Vita) and 2021 reboot(Switch) is what I'm sayin'🤣 I guess you can play Neo Angelique too; it's pretty much a separate series.
Angelique Special 1 and 2 are the games that really interest me in the series because they felt like a game first with dating sim elements rather than a dating sim visual novel. The 2nd game in many ways does feel like "Angelique, again". But in this case, I guess it can be considered a good thing. I would love to see a video on the Haruka series or La corda if you have different feelings on those series or like them as much as Angelique.
tbh most of Ruby Party's games are not that entertaining in a gameplay point of view.. Haruka 1 back in the day I played the hell out of and produced tons of fanart(but 1 Miko was super whiny and annoying). 2, ehh.. 3 was cool. Golden Corda I only kept up with 2.
oh how I yearn for a full english translation of these games in the west... :,). it's such unique gameplay for the genre it's interesting how similar mechanics never fully carried over into other otome games.
As a French it's an absolute delight to see French inspired names. It happens sometimes in otome games and it's... quite hazardous! But I'm truly fond of it! (Angelique Limoges sound so random) I wish we had more Otome games (at least translated otome games) more than otome vn... I just finished one otome vn (Virche evermore, idk how relevent it is to precise it) and like I know it's not the same thing but "gameplay" wise it's very not engaging... And I'm astonished to see that old games had fully animated scenes? And not the newer ones. But maybe I just can access the very tip of the iceberg due to langage barrier. Anyway, this game seems fun. Super charming! And I like some good old retro long hair dudes 👌 (and the purple hair girl is so gorgeous now! Obsessed)
I have another game coming up with a French title. A fair warning I won't even try with the pronunciation and read it the Amurican way, so don't cringe too much XD You can play as the purple haired girl in Angelique Duet! Or you can read the Angelique manga, but it's not officially translated. In the 90's not a lot of game developers had the tech and resources for a 3d movie that makes the characters look good. Games like Magical Date was so horrendous/hilarious it became a meme. At least they tried. So especially character oriented games like Dating Sims relied heavily on good old hand-drawn animation. I was an absolute sucker for them. The newer ones don't have them probably because of higher resolution images and no one is really expecting the game to have one. They realized it's still easy to profit from less effort; like how Ange2 cut costs compared to the prequel. Honestly Animated Cutscenes should be on the list for the so-called 'retro wave' stuff. Dating sims that have 'gameplay' are either mobile or rare these days. imo once you get over with the fascination with the VN genre as itself, it's easy to get bored unless the writing/plot is engaging. I need other stuff to do, goddammit!
@@bapsago a lot of otome vn stories are quite cliché even to this day... ^^' (and not even talking about a weird misogynistic vibe with each I own. Like, no, being "kind and a good cook" is not enough to build a personality.) So what I'm buying is truly gorgeous wallpaper at this point, but it's nice to discover cool artists at least 👌 And to each their own langage! I think I'd be equally as bad at pronouncing Korean names!

Ruby Party doesn't seem to be interested in releasing their games in English, despite some localized Idea Factory Otome titles getting relatively popular. I guess sales from Japanese Otomes are enough.
