Fun fact: In the semifinal against Croatia, France conceded the first goal due to a mistake from Lilian Thuram. He then redeemed himself by scoring two goals in that match as France defeated Croatia 2-1. These two goals were the only goals he ever scored for the French national team.

France of 98-00 is easily one of the greatest national team of all time, lets not forget the competition that time was much tougher compared to say decade later, italy, brazil, portugal, natherlands, argentina and england all were having there own strong teams.

And just think, Thierry Henry and David trezeguet were just substitutes on this team! Their "star" striker was guivarc'h who didn't even score in the tournament. Just think how much better they'd have been if Henry was playing 90 minutes.
Henry and trezeguet were starters at the beginning of the tournament but came off the bench during the knockout stages. Wonder why henry didnt play the final
Every time i watch anything france 🇫🇷 98’... it fills me with nostalgia and takes me back to 97-98 when i was 9, hanging with my childhood buddy when we literally felt the whole island of jamaica 🇯🇲 shook- (still didn’t really understand what the commotion was all about when the grown ups hd informed us kids) -when the national team had gotten qualified for the world cup, then we watched them playing on the highest stage in 1998. Zidane later in life became my favorite player of all time.

They are french and everybody has origins like me, like you whether you like it or not. What don’t you understand ? Why put the origins of french players in the foreground ? What is your purpose ? What the other said is an incitement to hatred, I only see it. We are in a multicultural country where everyone comes from different backgrounds, it’s the strength of France despite the tensions that may exist and it’s the same everywhere. I think it’s hypocritical and racist to say that players are african origins knowing that in their country there are people who comes from Europe, Asia and cie : foreigners for their jobs, to live in a foreign country for example and be very well received. And there are people who were born in another country that their origins : a person who was born in France and he has spanish, italian, german, algerian, tunisian, morrocan, congolese origins for example : it’s they are first of all french and it’s beyond all despite his origins. What a tournament, I was a kid who just started to passionate about football and I'll never forget this games. France and Holland had legendary teams, and in the final were Ronaldo and Zidane -best players ever. Most stunnig game - Holand - Brazil.

Looking back at this I love the left foot/right foot whipping corners from Petit and Djorkaeff for Zidane's headers. They crushed the Brazil defence! The quality of those corners basically won them the game. They must have worked on that a lot in training
Djorkaeff and Zidane tore them apart, if not for Dugarry and Guivarch missing easy chances, it could have been 5 or 6 nil.
wouldn't say quality corner just that zidane was in the right place.

@@Topsey2000 don't think petit was expecting zidane to be there as zidane is not a scorer, also the header quite difficult from packed full of defenders, zidane's jump and power contributed to the goal.

Those times players really played passionately and skillfully for their countries. The world cup was a beautiful event. Nowadays money has really spoiled the game, some players are overpaid and overpriced. They are not even passionate playing for their countries

Funny story about this game. I sat down to watch this game at home and just before kickoff my dad asked if we had any cold drinks. I asked him what he wanted and he said "Oh I don't know 7up or something."
I went to the fridge and we only had Sprite.
When I took the bottle back to him he said "I thought i said 7up?!"
I said "They're practically the same."
He smiled and said "Yeah I guess you're right."
Seriously it was a crazy moment on a generally mental night all around.
