That whole team were brilliant. And that's the thing. They were a complete team. No egos. They all played for each other. At that time it was said that their goalkeepers were a weak link and yet I seem to remember Felix pulling off a pretty decent save or two in the matches that I watched. You could argue that Jairzinho was under rated. He was an excellent goal scorer and clearly very important to the team's success. But, what about Gerson, Rivelino, Clodoaldo and Tostao. They were excellent players who were also absolutely integral to the success of that team. It is not only the goal scorers that are important, it is also those behind them and alongside them, backing them up and creating the goal scoring opportunities that are important. To date I have never seen a better side or a side that gave so much pleasure than that 1970 Brazil side.

There are so many details about this goal that make it greater every time you watch it. First: The ball was recovered by Tostao, the number 9. Second: Clodobaldo, the defensive midfielder, dribbled past 3 Italian players, one of them without even touching the ball. Third: Jairzinho, who was the right wing, received the ball open in the left and cuts to the center. Fourth: When Pelé receives the ball, he gives the pass to Carlos Alberto without even looking, and if you pay attention, you can see how Tostao pointed at his right, giving him the indication that Carlos Alberto was moving up like a bullet. This team was something else. A true sea of geniuses, and there were no fixed positions. Everyone was all over the field, and that made life impossible for their rivals.
