You might think it was a prank...
We didnt really know about the right score back in time. Gathered in a crowd watching it outside with a big screen .. we were still celebrating and hugging each other when these goals happened. It was absolutely crazy. I remember myself asking around if the score is really true or if they had just shown the replay from the previous goal... And in fact goals happened while they were showing the replays of the ones before. Anyways, we couldn't care less. It was the biggest moment in history for German football and witnessing it is hard to describe.
As a crowd we also felt bad. Brazil did not deserve this defeat! And look at the goals ... They simply did not defend. It would never ever have been this easy with defence standing up..... Ole memories ;-)
And mind to recall what happened to Germany since then ...........

I remember watching this live and I still remember the exact look on my face to this day as if this was yesterday. That's how horrifying this game was.

I remember watching this in disbelief whilst holidaying in Cyprus. Crazy game - funny how it just randomly pops back into our minds every now and then.
I was rushing home from work hoping to get there before the first half ended... got there at minute 40 and missed most of the onslaught. Was elated for Germany but felt disappointed anyways.
Neuer getting furious after receiving the 1-7 is like the most German thing ever.
To be fair it was lazy defending and Neuer was on for a clean sheet with some fantastic saves. I’d be mad too.

The most German thing ever is a part of history we don't want to revisit.
Neuer still revisits that from time to time in interviews, asking himself if he could have handled that situation better. It's a trademark behavior of someone who os desperate to improve.

Watched this in a student bar in berlin....you would not believe the atmosphere....i was rooting for brazil as a long time fan. Surrounded by 200+ german students...didnt know how to feel...now its a fond memory.
As a German, I couldn't care less about Germany winning the World Cup. But seeing the devastated faces of those Brazilians? Priceless.

Was David Luis trashed after this match? His play in this match is truly shocking… left in the dust, guarding no one, just ball-watching on basically every goal, amazing
I remember the pundits on British TV absolutely trashing him, pointing out how poor he was for nearly every goal. I'm guessing it must have been worse in Brazil. Watching it back, he really was so awful. Thiago Silva was suspended for the game, so Luiz was made stand-in captain. Without Silva at the heart of the Brazil defence though, Luiz was completely exposed. He was never the most disciplined defender (to put it mildly) but he just completely lost the plot.
I remember reading an analysis of that game which showed that David Luis was over-motivated trying to play for da Silva and himself at the same time and being caught off-spot again and again. He confused his fellow defenders. He tried long balls from the defense to the forwards that were easily stopped by the Germans (e.g. by Hummels before the 5:0). David Luis is a great defender. But he messed it up completely.

Man that was just the prime of football ❤ Real tournaments, real fans. Not everything was about money and players were actually proud to play in their national teams. Germany was so strong back then a golden generation at their prime. But what I like the most - they were one united team. Not just a squad around a „super star“ who takes all the credit. A true team. I mean look at Klose. The guy is the sole record holder and yet so humble and calm.

I don't think that's what they did cause that feels like treating your opponent like children and disrespectful at that. The Brazilian coach propably just made tactical changes during half time break that prevented this ending up 10-0

Unforgettable memories, at that time I was in school trip and my elder brother who lives in Bangalore calls me and ask hey where are you? Are you watching the semi-final? Then I watched this remarkable match with my school friends and teachers on my teacher's laptop. it was a great evening we also celebrated after match. As German national football team fan I was very happy. After nine years all great memories are in front of my eyes.
That's literally the worst way you could ever lose because
1- You got completely destroyed
2- It happened at home in front of SO MANY of your own fans

This match was so legendary that I always have to look up who Germany played in the final and I've met others who also have almost no memory of the final but still remember every last detail of this match.
Notice how selfless the germans play. Team above everyone. They don't have any ego maniacs trying to take all the glory. This was one of the best teams ever to play tournament football.

It was kind of a laughter hardly anyone could hold for obvious reasons. Probably it had more to do with the tall Brazilian claims of them being the best, invincible, etc prior to the match. Truly a reminder of how one should remain humble and down to earth at all times.

I remember on one interview, one German player said the coach ask them to slow down their pace on the second half as not to humiliate the hosts further. You can tell from their pacing that's likely true.
