Considering how actually violent some of the species are, it is a miracle that any galactic civilization even survived, much less lasted long enough to create the Galactic Republic’s, but hey that civilization for you it is too stubborn to die.
It's possible that many of the really violent species fought each other and made themselves irrelevant, while less violent ones banded together and eventually formed the Republic.
That species are violent aren't a problem, who they're violent towards is the problem, if they can be directed towards your enemies, they're a positive.
I don't know take a look at Rome. A lot of it's wars were usually against itself and yet it somehow lasted a millenium. 2 if we're counting the Byzantines which I do count...
Do not mistake neutrality for pacifism. Even peace can be violent with a species like the Rodians. They are hunters and quite violent, but even such people can understand mercy, justice, and even compassion. How many violent uprisings, revolutions, and outright wars have stemmed from a demand for justice? Still doesn't make it any less ironic, though.
With all the clan wars, dictators, backstabbing to become dictator, and bloodlust, I'm amazed the Rodians didn't drive themselves to extinction years ago.

After watching this video, I am surprised none of us ever see a Rodian Sith Lord before. Man, if there is a Rodian Sith Lord who successfully became the Grand Protector, just imagine how horrifying that could be.
I'd imagine that Grand Protectors never leave Rodia for whatever reasons, & few, if any, of other species would wanna find themselves in Rodia, since one would be surrounded by people with off-putting smells. Being surrounded by everyone who smells like turd ain't a pleasant experience after all, one that i would imagine, that even the Sith would find repulsive.
I've got to say, I did not know that the bartender of the tatoine (apologies if I am misspelling it) bar was so adept at making drinks that he could make a good drink from the yucky pheromones of Rodians. I do not drink alcohol, despite being above the legal age in America. However, I do respect that kind of creativity.
Years ago, I found out that Rodians do a sort of salute when greeting people and assumed that they were mostly polite and peaceful because of that. Guess I was wrong.
Of course there are always exceptions to the rule even in the planet of hats trope that Star Wars so often falls into. I remember the Rodian merchant in Kotor 2 was pretty docile and peaceful, but was considered a bit of an outcast among her people because she found humans attractive.
On one hand, I have to wonder why so many Rodians are just overconfident thugs when they are supposed to be skilled hunters. On the other hand, I suppose that when all you do is chase and murder terrified dissidents, you come up short against genuine warriors.
I was sorta hoping their species would have changed a little once they integrated into the galaxy more, opting to hunt other species and uniting as one group. But, I guess it's easier to get away with hunting yourselves than hunting other species.
Rodians- a race of generational hunters that conquered a devastatingly brutal ecosystem Also Rodians- galactic cannonfodder who are almost always the first to die in any scenario
Fun fact about the Rodian theatre is that senator Onaconda Farr directed and paid for a three act play that was basically a critique of the Military Creation Act. Had many rave yet mixed reviews over the Holonet.
And to think, there have been many Rodian Jedi as well. Would take a hell of a lot of discipline to suppress their nature... more than most species whose Force Sensitives are eligible to become Jedi.
