I am Catholic, I wear glasses, I listen(ed) to BM but I find the idea of "Christian black metal" antinomic and counter productive for both satanists and christians, haha.
@@stephane9544 the more I think about it though the early history of Christians was dark and terrifying. For example, Nero would have Christians strung togethet and light them on fire to make light for his parties. Blackmetal has the perfect vibe to illustrate those horrors. Just my opinion though!

@@evilemuempire9550I'm Arab. Most bands in the scene are quite anti-Islam, Janazah, Al-Namrood, Seeds of Iblis, etc. Only one I can think of that's in the least impartial while still retaining religion is Narjahanam. They write songs about Islamic eschatology and mythology, it's all quite nice.
That Antestor song absolutely rips. Reminds me somewhat of "The Destroyer" by Deus Mortem.

Immortal Souls are more Melodic Death Metal than Unblack Metal though the vocalist (who does bass) uses blackened rasp vocals.

I would say both won. After all black metal is black metal. Unblack metal and black metal have one thing in common they are still black metal. I listen to both. Both have their fair share of killer bands. Of course that’s my opinion. Anyone else can feel free to disagree
Great video! Thanks for this unbiased battle. Slechtvalk's later albums - A Forlorn Throne and Where Wandering Shadows & Mists Collide are some of the bests from the Christan Black Metal scene. Can't go without mentioning the drums on Crimson Moonlight's - Intimations of Everlasting Constancy. Pure talent but sadly underrated bands.
In all honesty, the latter Slechtvalk albums were leaning towards more on fantasy war themes than Christian (except that one song "Desolate" from A Forlorn Throne).

I used to be christian, now I'm pagan. But if those bands are christian that doesn't mean they aren't good. They have their own opinion on values of life, but they are also great musicians. 🤘🏻🔥

First thing first, some of you don't understand anything at all about black metal. Black metal is not anti-religion by definition, black metal is a spiritual Disenchantment for the modern world that has lost its "magical side". Black Metal its not punk that opposes religions because they are "oppressive", Black Metal embrace occult, ancient heathen myths and satanism because is a call to the past. Black Metal it is a look to the forgotten past. Black metal can use primitive / medieval satanism, as much as slavic, nordic or anykind of paganism and even gnosticism to remind us of this forgotten past. It is an identity crisis, a call of oneself to the transcendental and spiritual. Christianity (especially traditional Catholicism) fits perfectly with the reactionary image / mentality of black metal.
You can feel the vibe!
In the christian side it is uplifting!
And Satan side is feeling negative!

Music doesn't really "belong" to anyone, necessarily. It's an artistic vessel you use to send a message to the listener, whether it's philosophical, religious, or any sort of message.
I can see how Christian BM exists, just as I can see how both RABM and NSBM exist.
You can say the same about any philosophical view. Say leftist BM. "Why would a leftist make black metal politically charged? They have punk music, they have (some) folk music, so why?"
Or NSBM. "Why would a Nazi make black metal? They have marching music, they have Rock Against Communism, they have Martial Industrial (at least some artists), so why would they do the same to black metal?"
The answer is because they like the sound and just want to utilize it to send a philosophical message, just as satanists and pagans have been doing.
Black Metal is a great genre for expressing/releasing raw emotions. It's not hard to imagine how anyone with strong beliefs could be dawn to utilizing it. Honestly, I would be surprised by NOT finding Black Metal associated with a particular religious, political, or philosophy belief/value system.
Why not? If they enjoy the music and are Christians, what else would they play?

If you are not religious, but you care about good lyrics and good black metal, then you should encourage people to start christian black metal bands.

Yes and no. It depends on the listener, and the image it represents. The lyrics contain Russian Orthodox scriptures (though they slightly altered it), but the band members are not religious. Plus, much of the imagery has Russian Orthodox themes like you're in that church, but much of it has a black metal twist to it. In example, the Madonna and Child's faces from the first album are faceless, and (of course) the Russian cross is upside down. Though some say it would represent Peter's crucifixion, it still has a anti-religious feel to it on others in denying and defying God.
