- This time we are looking at fast and slow black metal. Which one is better? Which one do you prefer? I like both! if the idea is right.
I took 5 bands and covered their faster songs and the songs which are not so fast. Both rule!

Fast black metal shows its aggressiveness while slow black metal shows it atmospheric sound.
Although fast can be just as atmospheric where I can't say the same for aggressiveness.
@@faust8218 yep forsure!! Check out GOATLORD’s “reflection of the solstice”, this whole album is like quintessence X3. It’s extremely slow at most parts and is very aggressive the whole time
clearly, slow sounds darker, more intimidating and psychotic. personal favourite
yet it also feels like a slur if you stay stuck in that tempo. switching up makes is the best way.

@@zimorog yo that gave me an idea, do 10 or top 5 """unblack metal""" (shitty ass term) riffs, bands like Ancestor, Crimson Moonlight, Slechtvalk and Vaakevandring got some cool stuff, besides their lyrical themes

Slow Black Metal has more doomy and darker feeling to it.
While fast Black Metal is more thrashy and colder.
A good mix of both in an album is the best of both worlds.

Black metal only...
Purely in terms of speed, I think the best black metal is the kind that blends both fast, slow and mid-tempo sections. Not necessarily within the same song, but having the same tempo over the course of a whole album is kind of boring and shows a lack of creativity.
Yep I fully agree. Transylvanian hunger is an example of an album that has no creativity in terms of tempo but also just true drums itself. Under a funeral moon is perfect because it has a bit of all 3 tempo rates you mentioned and it just flows so well. The tone is killed too!!
@@connorrekdahl3754 i just wanted to point out that although i agree with you, Transylvanian Hunger was pretty creative at the time of its release, because nobody had ever made an album that was purely blast beats at the same-ish tempo throughout the whole. That was like the whole point of the album. Everybody was making all these various albums, trying very hard to be different (which also is cool), thats why Fenriz in Darkthrone decided to make the album.
@@nordicthrasher8712 although it may be unique to the extent that you mentioned, I don’t think it makes it any more creative in terms of the drums. And I don’t think I’d call them blast beats I think they’re a little too slow. Idk if fenriz would either but the drums are very simple and that’s not really up for debate. Whether you think that the drums were creative or just unique(from the perspective of the whole album(which I’d argue is less creative because of that)) is a matter of opinion but it is still a legendary album and I’m not trying to take away from that fact
@@connorrekdahl3754 yeah, i totally agree. It isn’t creative drum playing, but a unique album in a whole. Fenriz has this, anti-modern, primitive thing he loves i guess. Works for his music, he does both creative and «anti-creative» music if you will. Idk im just rambling on now haha.
@@nordicthrasher8712 yep in many cases simplicity and impact of the sound that does well for darkthrone and other similar bands, but to say it’s creative, especially Transylvanian hunger, would not be accurate in my opinion. You could say that kathaarian life code has some pretty creative drums but I feel like that’s an outlier for that reason
I saw Marduk in thumbnail and I knew I will hear Imago Mortis. What a fine riff. What a fine album.

No wonder Demonaz got tendinitis ..Dont try and play battles in the north before warm-up,always do before playing fast kiddies..some great Fing grooves there...fast then slow or visa versa...crescendo and other elements..We like it because of how music affects the brain ..that reminds me to get stoned. More music and expanding black metal ...there are leaders and followers, what are we doing to inject some originality into black metal where are we taking it.... Good vid as usual. .

The fastest BM album I've heard is Immortal - Battles in the north, I couldn't believe the speed.

Fast is for anger, slow is for hatred
There are Black Metal bands that are capable of playing fast or slow, which is what I prefer
