I just heard a song from them called “Hellbent” and I got to say I’m confused. If these people are Christian then I’m sorry but where is the hope and redemption of Jesus in their message? How could anyone call them self a Christian if they only talked about the doom and sadness of society, but not also the hope and redemption in Jesus? I’m interested if you can show me otherwise, but I really don’t see a lot of that in any of their songs, their message, and their logo looks extremely questionable as far as looking like a manipulated upside down pentagram.

Demon Hunter's "I Will Fail You" is not about how we will fail God but rather that the band got wind of how people were raising them up and almost deifying them. This was their response to those people saying don't put your faith in me, I am just a person and will fail you. Rather put your faith in God as He is infallable.

Demon Hunter is so good. Their first album came out in 2002. They've always been very explicit that they are a _Christian_ metal band, even though their lyrics are a little ambiguous. They were my introduction to metal (2005). Great to see Phinehas get some love! They are one of the best metal bands out there, and certainly one of the best Christian metal bands. Their lyrics are more explicitly Christian than DH's amd their music extremely technical and diverse but consistently heavy. Do yourself a favor and check out the video for "My Horses are Many": I promise you, you will be entertained 😂
Thanks for making this video! Always looking for a true Christian band and take the approach "you will know them by their fruit" just found Phinehas and love their stuff. Been a fan of demon hunter for years too!
Ive seen impending doom, in the midst of lions , and a plea for purging at my local church .. over 10 years ago now! I’ve been to hundreds of metal and punk shows , and that show still sticks out in my mind, very fun times indeed 🤙🏻
Great list! As a fellow Ohioan, I can confirm we really do put out some of the best metal. Convictions is another solid Ohio based Christian metalcore band that would fit great on this list.
I didn't know Convictions was from Ohio! It's a proud land we hail from lol. Even outside Christian metal, bands like Beartooth, Starset, and twenty one pilots are all from Columbus I think, so Ohio truly is a hub for music. Thanks so much for watching Brennan!
There are so many from the 80s and 90s. Bloodgood, Jerusalem, Daniel Band, Sacred Warrior, Deliverance, Whitecross, Eternal Decision. I was introduced to Christian Metal in 1987. At one time has over 900 cassettes. I now have converted them to mp3s. Well over 14k songs. I have listened to some that did feel right.
That's amazing. My old high-school band was named Deliverance HTX. I was the drummer. I found the real band Deliverance through TH-cam searching the name. I was in a blasphemous band back in those days and now I'm sold out for YHWH.
My personal favorite Christian bands are The Chariot, Harp & Lyre, Showbread, and Silent Planet they're all so creative with their respective music and their lyrical content really displays the Gospel at work
Have you listened to Bride? Their song Psychadelic Super Jesus is awesome!! If you look up the lyrics, they even have Bible verses for nearly every line!
Oh Sleeper needs to be on this list. They were my conversion years ago into christian metal. All great picks though along with bands others mentioned like Fit for a King and For Today.
Okay, these are all old school, beginning with Sanctuary, aka The Metal Church, founded by Pastor Bob Beeman. The Resurrection (Rez) Band, the first Christian "biker" band, and Darrell Mansfield, which are hard rock, Altar Boys, One Bad Pig, Lust Control (punk), and now for actual metal: Deliverance, Vengeance Rising, Die Happy, Bloodgood, Jerusalem, Leviticus, Bride, Barnabas, Ransom, Recon, Sacred Warrior, X Sinner, Ken Tamplin, and Galactic Cowboys. There's a lot others, but I can't think of them right now (past my bedtime, )The Cornerstone festival is a good place to find solid Christian bands.
Great list (I've never listened to Impending Doom before, but I'm gonna check 'em out now, so thanks!). Wolves at the Gate is my all-time favorite band. To anyone looking for more, I also recommend Earth Groans, Convictions, Lacey Sturm, Red, For All Eternity, Cliffside, Nine Lashes, and Then It Ends. A couple of these aren't strictly metal, but incorporate elements of metal music into some of their songs.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it and created a new playlist to check out the artists I am unfamiliar with. I know and love Demon Hunter but no one else you talked about. God bless brother.
I surprised I didn’t see Living Sacrifice or Six Feet Deep on the list (check out LS Reborn and SFD struggle albums). Stryper, for sure. The godfather of all Christian metal. Aside from that, great list and video! Six feet deep is a classic band from cleveland! I’m from that state “up there” but I’d walk barefoot from Michigan to cleveland to see six feet deep play if they ever did another show. Amazing band and I always have a good time in cleveland anyhow (great people and restaurants! East coast custard is THE best!)
thanx for sharing, never seen your channel before but i always appreciate more heavy christian music to weed through. crowbar-cleanse me heal me the whole album Sever The Wicked Hand is christian, but most of the frontman's music (Kirk Windstein) is very grounded in his struggles as a christ follower.

Great list! ID is deathcore, black metal is a whole other level of extremeness. Love their album Death Will Reign, I find it's more very listenable deathcore in a weird way. Really heavy but also has some great hooky/melodic parts.
Yeah I'm still trying to figure out all the metal genres lol. I've been listening to Impending Doom a lot since posting this video last week, and I actually really like their sound. I thought it would be too grimy for me, but it's actually just the right amount of grime lol. Thanks for watching!
excellent commentary on the Christian bands. I have been into the Christiam metal since I became a fan of Stryper back in 1984. The 2 bands I have discovered lately are Ignescent and HolyName.
For Impending Doom, check out the song Satanic Panic. Their song Murderer got me into them. My go to bands for Christian Metal are Impending Doom, For Today, and August Burns Red. ABR puts on an awesome show. Saw them twice and I highly recommend seeing them live.
Great list! I will check out the bands I don't know, for sure! I would have liked to see Project 86 and/ or Theocracy on the list. 👍 The world needs more bold, positive music that praises our Savior! Pethaps you can do a video on the top Christisn bands that have the best shot at crossing over (like Skillet, Stryper, Project 86, etc.). Keep up the great worrk! People (especially young people) need to know that this kind of music is out there! God bless you! I am subbing!😮
The return of the Black Death by Antestor is an amazing Christal black/ unblack metal album. It’s mixes in atmospheric and doom elements that make it completely immersive. They are so amazing they even got the great black metal drummer hellhammer to play in an EP and full length album, Dev Tapte Liv and the forsaken absolutely which are amazing albums too.
Love this, Wolves at the Gate got me into metal in the first place and is still my all time favorite band, mainly because of how powerful and worshipful the lyrics are. I do have to say I almost lost it when you called Impending Doom a black metal band XD Definitely not black metal, mostly death-core with first album being death-metal. But absolutely awesome band and definitely God-honoring band!
There is not enough Extol being mentioned here. They are the BEST example of a Christian metal band that sing pretty clear messages of the gospel, whilst also suffering hatred from the church and their fellow Norwegian metallers. The music also blows everyone else out of the water
Nice video dude! You should check some awesome European bands, like Crimson Moonlight, Antestor and Slechtvalk. They are a bit heavier the the most bands of your list, but they are really great en have some good christian lyrics.
I have come to enjoy Holy Name, and I like Become the Archetype a great deal. Another band is Oh, Sleeper (who are openly honest about the fact that not all members are Christian), but the some members are, and they have written a lot of explicitly Christian themes in their metalcore. Lastly, Impending Doom is technically deathcore - very heavy, very intense. Really good. Finally, if you were looking for interesting Christian black metal (or "unblack metal" as some insist), try Panegyrist, Lo Ruhamah, or Reverorum Ib Malacht.
Thank youuu 🙏🙏🙏🙏 metal has always beeen my thing, but lately i been feeling like listening to it can be so depressing with suicide toughts, violence and, im reborn since not sooo long, ive never been believing god until i got sober thats when it all changed and now im at church every sunday and i want to worship him but with metal so this is a huge THANK YOUUUUU
In The Midst of Lions, Living Sacrafice, Saving Grace, Fit For A King. Those are good ones too. Oh, and Impending Doom is more Deathcore than Black my friend. Great video brother, keep it up!
Check out a local Phoenix, AZ Christian Metal band called Deep as Bones. They are making alot of noise and they have a new release coming out any day now.
Extol, Becoming the Archetype, Living Sacrifice are some I grew up listening to along with Demon Hunter. Just recently found Wolves at the Gate and love them.
Some honourable mentions (not all as heavy as the bands in your list): Becomming the Archetype Disciple For Today Red Thousand Foot Krutch (kind of on the verge or nu metal but I'm counting it :)) Blue Fire Horizon
Wolves at the Gate are the greatest band of all time! Steve's lyrics are unreal. Surprised you didn't mention Sleeping Giant. Was it because they're no longer making music? Would be interested in your thoughts on Project 86 - especially with their new double concept album
We were going to play on a Bill with Impending Doom last year at Chains Unchained but they canceled which was a bummer. For something a little different check out Slaves Wage.
War of Ages is really good, I like their mix of clean and hard vocals. For some reason never got into Becoming the Archetype... though I like the concept in their name, hehe
Great video Josiah!, you should react to Deathcore / death metak and black metal Christina bands, I'm pretty sure this will make entertaining videos since you said that those subgenres of metal are not your cup of tea.
Just listened to all 22 minutes of Mirror of Souls yesterday for the first time ever. Listened to I Will Fail You last night too. Went from 22 hours a day of listening to secular music for exes and my own escape to now trying very hard to cut all that out of my life and go back to listening to music that speaks to me and for me.
Great video, brother. I'd love to hear you discuss and/or recommend heavy Christian bands with female vocalists and the best non-growler bands. I grew up listening to Sabbath and Maiden and I'm not fully given over to the Cookie Monster sound yet LOL. I'm trying.
GFM has a female vocalist who does some growling, and Flyleaf is hard rock with mostly clean vocals. If you're more interested in hard rock, again Flyleaf, also Fireflight and Veridia.
I just found this video, great breakdown on the lyrics and bands. Impending Doom is actually more deathcore with musically heavy slipknot influences though not black metal. Anything after nailed.dead.rise is a change in sound. Also you should check out if you haven’t For Today specifically “crown of thrones” and “devastator”. Thanks for turning me on to these bands. Never heard of them but I'll check them out. I'm a huge Stryper fan myself
Brother thank you for doing this video! God bless you and your work.
Been a fan of demon hunter for years too!
have you heard impending doom ? serpents tongue is really good
renecent "son of God" is another great one
0:01 holy eyebrow!
Thanks for the references, I will be checking these guys out. ADVENIAT REGNUM TUUM
@@JosiahNordquist Yes! You clearly have great taste in music.
Why do i keep coming across people from Ohio lol
Grew up in Youngstown. Ohio girl forever! 💙
Texas does Christian metal the best
Believer and Vengeance(Rising) were pretty awesome too
@@GoneFishin610
That’s awesome!! God is good!!
My personal favorite Christian bands are The Chariot, Harp & Lyre, Showbread, and Silent Planet they're all so creative with their respective music and their lyrical content really displays the Gospel at work
The Chariot ruled live!
Have you listened to Bride? Their song Psychadelic Super Jesus is awesome!! If you look up the lyrics, they even have Bible verses for nearly every line!
thanks!!! will definitely check them out
Oh Sleeper needs to be on this list. They were my conversion years ago into christian metal. All great picks though along with bands others mentioned like Fit for a King and For Today.
Antestor, Horde, Pantokrator, Bedeiah, Verdelger, Crimson Moonlight, etc.
Love your attitude on Christian or so called Christian bands. Keep rocking.
Loving HolyName lately, and older Sleeping Giant. Great recs, Josiah.
Aah, Pastor Bob! He's such an awesome and nice guy!
I'm SO glad someone else loves Gravedigger SPECIFICALLY from Wolves At The Gate!! Much love, brother.
I so needed this! Thanks for being out here!
Hey! Thanks for the suggestions. 👍
Was totally expecting an actual music count down with video clips....
Ooh! Thanks for this list! ✨💖🙏✨
I listened to Elphelt's 'Extras' theme from Guilty Gear: Strive and now I'm searching for Christian Metal songs!
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it and created a new playlist to check out the artists I am unfamiliar with. I know and love Demon Hunter but no one else you talked about. God bless brother.
Thank you for this list.
Check out Integrity
Stillwell (Fieldy), HolyName and Love/Death (Brian Head Welch) are my favorite three Christian bands.
thanx for sharing, never seen your channel before but i always appreciate more heavy christian music to weed through.
crowbar-cleanse me heal me
the whole album Sever The Wicked Hand is christian, but most of the frontman's music (Kirk Windstein) is very grounded in his struggles as a christ follower.
Could you do a video on Christian hard rock? Skillet, Red, and Disciple are amazing Christian hard rock bands.
Thank you, Good Sir♥️
I fell in love with the concept album Chronicles of Ancient Wisdom by the band Fearless. What an adventure!!
Thank you for this video! Personally, i enjoy Skillet's playlist, & just discovered Brian Head Welsh.
Oh! Btw! For those who enjoy power metal style, get pumped!especially at Christmas, download Dan Vasc songs!
Angels We Have Heard On High
Adeste Fideles
O Holy Night
Plus his Amazing Grace, etc
Spotted Gentle and Lowly on that stack of books - great read!
@@JosiahNordquist black metal is satanism ex (mayhem)
yeah thats more like Antestor (BM)
thank you for this! Added them to my spotify!
Dude awesome info, thanks. Keep it up.👍🔥
You should give Stryper and For Today. Got some great songs, and Mike Sweet from Stryper is an on fire for Jesus Christian
Great video. These are great bands that are truly Christian. Greetings from Brazil.
My 3 favorites are fit for a King, Convictions and Phinehas. All have help me come back to Christ.
excellent commentary on the Christian bands.
Great job, brother. Don't listen to the haters!
Great list! I will check out the bands I don't know, for sure! I would have liked to see Project 86 and/ or Theocracy on the list. 👍
The world needs more bold, positive music that praises our Savior!
Yes! Extol is my favourite Christian metal band!
Just mentioned them, couldn’t agree more! Highly sophisticated writing! I listen to them pretty much every day.
Check out Fit For a King, For Today and arguably August Burns Red
Nice video dude! You should check some awesome European bands, like Crimson Moonlight, Antestor and Slechtvalk. They are a bit heavier the the most bands of your list, but they are really great en have some good christian lyrics.
6:53 Jesus in a social justice context? Can you expand on that?
What about SAVING GRACE!? Nobody has mentioned this band.
What about Disciple and Stryper???
yess
Just happened upon your video. Very nice for off the top of your head. Could you do a history of Christian hard rock & metal video? Blessings! 🙏
In The Midst of Lions, Living Sacrafice, Saving Grace, Fit For A King. Those are good ones too. Oh, and Impending Doom is more Deathcore than Black my friend. Great video brother, keep it up!
Fit for a king , demon hunter and skillet are my favorite christian band inthe category metal ( even if skillet is less a metal band now )
Check out a local Phoenix, AZ Christian Metal band called Deep as Bones. They are making alot of noise and they have a new release coming out any day now.
Awesome video! I think I'd trade demon hunter with for today, but great video
Extol, Becoming the Archetype, Living Sacrifice are some I grew up listening to along with Demon Hunter. Just recently found Wolves at the Gate and love them.
Some honourable mentions (not all as heavy as the bands in your list):
Becomming the Archetype
Disciple
For Today
Red
Thousand Foot Krutch (kind of on the verge or nu metal but I'm counting it :))
Blue Fire Horizon
Wolves at the Gate are the greatest band of all time! Steve's lyrics are unreal. Surprised you didn't mention Sleeping Giant. Was it because they're no longer making music? Would be interested in your thoughts on Project 86 - especially with their new double concept album
We were going to play on a Bill with Impending Doom last year at Chains Unchained but they canceled which was a bummer. For something a little different check out Slaves Wage.
What about War of Ages & Becoming the Archetype? I don't really follow the scene but I do still fire these up from time to time.
War of Ages is really good, I like their mix of clean and hard vocals. For some reason never got into Becoming the Archetype... though I like the concept in their name, hehe
What about Bride, Stryper, Tourniquet, Guardian????
Great video Josiah!, you should react to Deathcore / death metak and black metal Christina bands, I'm pretty sure this will make entertaining videos since you said that those subgenres of metal are not your cup of tea.
I love Wolves at the Gate! They were definitely a big part of my early exploration into Christian Metal.
Whitecross and barron cross are 2 of my regulars, followed by Petra and Skillet
Bro ... Theocracy.
And Sleeping Giant the songs “eyes wide open” and “clutches”.
I recomend to your public Demon Hunter songs in acoustic versions. Hola from México
Living Sacrifice did one song with Ryan Clark from Demon Hunter
What do you guys think about opalinsky, northlane and like moths to flames. These bands aren't chrustian but some of their music sends a good message.
