42:45 i always get a kick out of the lore that star wars developed specifically regarding Mace Windu's purple lightsaber. He basically was the premiere user of Form 7, which required extreme resolve to use dark-side emotions for combat without succumbing to the Dark. As such, his relationship with the force turned his lightsaber purple, a mix of the the Light blue and the Dark red. In reality, Samuel L Jackson wanted a purple lightsaber. That's it. They built lore to explain why no one else had a purple lightsaber. Lmao. It always makes me chuckle to think about.
@bryce-arell: I heard that one but I also heard the one about that the crystal that he used for his lightsaber-crystal was a purple crystal that came from his homeworld of Hurikane. (He got it from inside the dead-body of an alien-species called a

The thing is, all they had to do to make this really clever and cool is establish that the droids have anti-aircraft weapons up there. That's it. Now it's a good idea. Oh well.
@The Crazy Cat Gentleman if the droids have tanks small arms won't do much. Also, it's extremely difficult to avoid hitting the clif considering the distance.

Since Clone Wars, we know that at least ObiWan knew they were more than colleagues. But I do think he was genuinely surprised to find out when Padme was Pregnant, because when Anakin found out, he was more than experienced enough to block those feelings towards Obiwan
33:53 - the book where mace regrets, is "shatterpoint". Slightly different from most legends books. Written by Matt Stover, who also wrote the one where Jacen Solo was imprisoned and tortured by Yuuzhan Vong. Stover likes to go into depth of some warrior mentality, when the hero is pushed past their limit. Good, if heavy stuff. Punchline is that in order to kill Dooku there, he would've had to leave himself open to attack and sacrifice himself. And he didn't. An he feels bad about about the millions that died because the war even started.
The part on geonosis was a good breakdown. And it was a good breakdown. But they also didn't get a lot better at deploying the 5,000 commandos left. The problem was the Jedi wanted them to behave as arc troopers and just take charge in battle circumstances. But that's not what they were trained for. Finally later they started giving them better missions but the support they gave them was still horrible. They refused to brief them before arriving at each mission like the enemy has never heard of jamming signals. This was not the last battle they gravely misused them on. They even sent delta squad out to investigate a lost republic ship with no naval support. So even in there missions they were trained for the lack of support was once again trying to pit 4 men against a army. Which is what I normally call suicide. And they barely learn there lesson still opting to only relay there mission to them upon arrival. And one thing that confused me is all those soldiers were made no one thought to raise some generals with them? The last time jedi saw war was before Yodas time and he's hundreds of years old. Not to mention that jedi children or padiwans, were given high ranks as well. Becouse yeah the moody teenager that'd who we want leading troops into war that makes a lot of since. The fact that the republic even started to win was a miracle. And on no small part by the idiocy equal to the republic on the other side with the separatist. The strategies were idoitc. One jedi straight up said we are going to capture general greivus by waiting on the other side of the door for this murder machine then jumping out and yelling surprise. And capture? Use the commandos and assassinate him. That's literally part of what they were trained for. And they probably wouldn't of jumped out in front of him in his own liar. Then you have the stupidity of letting a teenager once again lead a starfighter squadron. On top of that leaving low rank and unexperianced soldiers to guard bases.
@@majortellandrus2552 Oh definitely. However we need the Kaminoans for a little bit longer. After all the EU just passed article 13, and we need soldiers.

I've seen this twice now and I have come to a fascinating conclusion: The council were NOT trying to hold Anakin back, in fact they were almost RUSHING him into being a Jedi Master. Consider this: By assigning Ashoka to Anakin they were hoping to temper Anakin (as Allen suggested) and give them BOTH of them the best chance of success...not just to make Ashoka a Knight, but to promote Anakin to MASTER! Think about it; a Jedi Knight receives that promotion one of two ways: either by training at least one Padawan to Jedi Knight (successfully completing the trials) OR by accomplishing great deeds for the Jedi Order and Republic. Through the lens that was the Clone Wars Anakin comes VERY close to accomplishing both objectives...I believe, had Ashoka not left the order when she did, she would have been offered the rank of Jedi Knight...and soon after that, Anakin would have been made a Jedi Master. Ashoka's leaving brought all that crashing down...and it puts Anakin's pleading with her to stay in a more selfish light. To be clear in that MOMENT I do not think Anakin was thinking of himself, Though I believe subconsciously he had that hope. Anakin had one more chance to reach Jedi Master...when he spoke to Mace Windu in episode 3 and was told "If what you say is true you will have earned my trust" I have zero doubt that had Anakin listened to Mace, and stayed there Mace would have returned, called an emergency meeting of the council as soon as possible and would have voted to make Anakin not just a Master, but a member of the council right then and there...but by then Palpatine had his claws into Anakin too deeply.
The Jedi did want him to succeed and become a master, like they did all of the members of their order. But Anakin wanted everything NOW. He had no patience and thought he should be allowed to skip steps others had to go through because of his raw talent and extraordinary power. As you said, he had several opportunities to become a master. If Anakin had killed Palpatine and saved Windu, ending the Sith threat, he would have been made the highest ranking Jedi save grandmaster Yoda. He would have gotten absolutely everything he wanted. Yoda died of old age 20 some years later, and when that happened, Anakin probably would have been named Grandmaster and head of the order. But again, he lacked patience, and as you said, he was far too much under Palpatine's sway, and by that time, had near absolute hatred for Mace Windu, who he never had a good relationship with, throughout his life. As Alan so clearly pointed out, personal relationships were more important to Anakin than the greater good or even completing missions. He considered Palpatine a friend, and even though he was Sith, Anakin still chose to save him instead of Windu who he cared for and respected far less. Palpatine did a great job at stroking Anakin's ego and forming a strong personal relationship with him.
@Dillon Brunschon Obi Wan was promoted for "killing" Darth Maul. They waived his Jedi Trials COMPLETELY after his experience and just made him a knight, understanding that nothing the Jedi could throw at him could be more challenging than killing a sith Lord. According to Obi Wan's article on Wookiepedia: "Jinn's dying request to his apprentice was to train Anakin Skywalker. Kenobi felt that he could not refuse, and took it upon himself to train the boy. Later, in the aftermath of the battle, the Jedi Council arrived to receive Kenobi's report. The Jedi Council was similarly moved by the plea, and fatefully reversed its decision, albeit still with doubts and misgivings. The Council had been impressed that Kenobi bested a Sith, an enemy that had not surfaced in a millennium. Kenobi was made a full Jedi Knight, with his duel with Darth Maul serving as his Jedi Trials. Skywalker was formally placed under the tutelage of Kenobi as his Padawan".[10] Ahsoka never defeated a Sith Lord. Holding your own is different. She did capture Maul, yes, but with the clone troopers' help and that was long after she left the Jedi. After Ahsoka's acquittal from the temple bombing scandal, the council offered to immediately waive her trials and make her a knight as well, so apparently a promotion can be given whenever the council believes you have faced a big enough trial in life. Whether that meant killing a Sith or whatever else they deemed fitting, it could be done. Apparently to the council the killing of Dooku wasn't enough, Anakin wasn't mentally or emotionally ready yet, nor had he trained at least one padawan to knighthood, which was normally a prerequisite to becoming a master. If he had killed Palpatine and ended the sith threat for good as it was prophesized, however that would have been entirely another story.
"a Jedi Knight receives that promotion one of two ways: either by training at least one Padawan to Jedi Knight (successfully completing the trials) OR by accomplishing great deeds for the Jedi Order and Republic." Nope, Nope, wrong. Its ONLY after successfully training a padawan that you get granted this rank. You show that you have it in you to teach, thats all the Master rang is about. Anakin, even while being a Padawan, was already better with the sword and did greater things than most jedi masters ever did, he was knighted during the clone wars and instantly basicaly got a padawan asigned by fracking yoda who is calculating AF. So yes in a sense they wanted Anakin to become a master, maybe even the basicaly dreaded Grand master (You conquer all 7 forms after becoming a master, thats what puts you into the grandmaster title (Mace is one, as is Yoda, as will be Luke later on too (all hail legends)
I prefer the genndy tartakovsky Star Wars Grievous. He was terrifying to watch, he was invincible and a great leader. Taking on a half dozen Jedi and killing half. With half of them being 2 masters, a Jedi Knight, And Jedi Shaggy!
This is one of your greats. I truly enjoy just turning your playlist on and letting it go while going about my life. Thank you for all this content you have put out there :)
So I just realized this: Did no one think it was strange that Jango Fett the template for this mysterious, extremely expensive and massive army that was just gifted to the republic just in time for war was on the side of, regularly seen and even killed while defending count dooku the leader of the separatists? I mean Mace Windu was right there to both see and hear everything. Jango was not just talking to but defending Dooku and trade federation leaders with his life. Someone like Mace Windus word weighs a lot and he's not an idiot either. Not to mention is supposed to be very strong in the force so shouldn't he be able to sense how extremely obviously sketchy it all was? I mean shit even with the handicap of the sith polluting the force and making it foggy for the jedi it still should've been insanely obvious
Yeah it was definitely sketchy as fuck. But they needed the army now. They didn't have a choice. They definitely kept trying to figure out what was going on in the background but they needed the army.
Sadly, there's logical explanation - Windu and Jedi Council depended TOO MUCH on the force for guidance, instead of their own intellected. They were looking too long, too hard in wrong direction for help, their mental and spiritual discipline working against them in this case.
One thing that’s always bothered me about this video Is during the battle of Teth the reason the republic couldn’t just land the la-at right on the monastery is because if I recall correctly a clone states the droids have anti aircraft guns. That’s why they had to scale the spire; it wasn’t just a stupid call by Anakin he didn’t have any other choice. So when you say it was a dumb call it just seems out place because what else could he have done. This is just nitpicking and I have nothing against this video other than small and inconsequential details. I still love these “history” videos. Just amazing.
Regarding his little tangent about how if you're a leader/boss you have to go out of your way to show you look out for your people. I work in construction and one time my boss worked a 20 hour shift so I can be at my little brothers birthday and I don't think I ever worked as hard as I do since then so yeah well said Alan :))
people really don't understand that if you bust your ass as a boss it shows that you're not just there to make sure everyone is working but you're there to help everyone

That shocked me as well, I was thinking that since they were pawns and bred just for war they should have made them sterile and without a sex drive so they would have no temptation to desert and to start families of their own.
@@trekstarsam2494 Apparently the reason is that they found the first batch of clones (who were sterile) were much less aggressive then the clones who weren't. Now how the hell is more aggression a good thing? It would make them less compliant, and by seeing how compliant our "fertile" clones we see in the show are, clearly it wasn't a lot less to be considered worth it.
As for clones being sterile I do believe that study's here on earth have shown that testosterone and the likes do make men more willing to fight aggression helps you stay focused and overcome any shell shock. I'm no expert on psychology not hormones but that is my theory
Early test showed the clone were near psychotic and unstable so they left them sterile and instead put that blue ball aggression into warfare instead of sex
Never understood why the republic didn’t mass reprogram battle droids and commandeer enemy ships. Repossessing enemy tech and using it in mass would be an awesome way to save money on clones and infiltrating enemy forces.
@Pennywise The dancing clown 13 ads over 3.5 hours of videos. Lets do some quick math. 3.5*60 is 210 minutes. 210/13 is 16.15. So every 16 minutes and 4 seconds is an ad. That's a steal compared to watching all of these videos independently and having 3 ads play per video. Lets also account for the time spent making these videos, research, production, editing, rendering and uploading. Umm, your Grievous origins are a little off. You mostly gave us the Legends story. But in Legends his cough was due to Mace Windu crushing his chest with the Force and damaging his lungs. In canon Grievous willingly underwent the cybernetic augmentations after the Jedi refused to train him.
Gotta say after playing Republic Commando.. i got a real good sense of how hard it was to destroy the droids let alone the super battle droids but it also was like a sense of accomplishment realizing you contributed majorly to one of the most iconic battles of the clone wars... and also got to whiteness how bad it was on the ground that 9/10 star wars fans never got to see in the movies.
Generation tech opened my eyes and made me realize that the Republic and jedi were the bad guys all along. Yeah you can say the CIS did some evil things but what military hasn't in war.
Evidently that's only part of the story, because his crash that transformed most of his body as well as his history as a Kaleesh warlord struggling with the Jedi and Republic are evidently still canon according to various canon novels. Even the Battle of Hypori is still considered canon.
49:50 About the Jedi Knight thing if you remember the original Clone Wars cartoon from 2003-2005 Anakin proved himself as an effective pilot and in his first battle with Ventress he won despite being baited time and again in the fight. I still consider this series cannon, even if disney will not, and it also explains how he reached the rank shortly after Geonosis. He received the rank shortly after the first season ended and due to a montage, later on, we see him being a badass Jedi throughout the war by defeating vast armies on his own saving countless Jedi and as stated before being a badass pilot.
General Grevious is portrayed a lot better in Clone Wars 2003 than the canon version. He's actually competent at the job, and not just some mustache-twirling cowardly saturday night villain.

i always get a kick out of the lore that star wars developed specifically regarding Mace Windu's purple lightsaber.

The frontal assault up a completely vertical climb would actually be brilliant, if they had been providing covering fire on the monastery from another angle to keep them from shooting straight down the cliff.
The thing is, all they had to do to make this really clever and cool is establish that the droids have anti-aircraft weapons up there. That's it. Now it's a good idea.

You know he ain’t want none. I love that CW because they actually let the Jedis kick ass instead of being dopes

@Straight Busta damn straight, busta
I know this is old but thank you for including the Commandos in this timeline. My absolute favourite part of the Clone Wars was the RCs!
Ironic.
Do you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Vader the overstimulated? I thought not. It's not a story Disney canon would like you to hear about.
According to Obi Wan's article on Wookiepedia:
"Jinn's dying request to his apprentice was to train Anakin Skywalker. Skywalker was formally placed under the tutelage of Kenobi as his Padawan".[10]
Ahsoka never defeated a Sith Lord.
Republic: "Noooo you can't just kill 4 Jedi in one day!"
GG: "Haha, Shaa'gi go crunch"
The issue is George Lucas didn’t liek the 2003 Greivous so they made him more like the revenge of the sith one.

The first thing they did was pose for an epic photo.
One could argue that Windu was in fact an idiot based off of his track record
I’m surprised no one questioned it
I guess they just assumed that he was a bounty hunter with loyalty to himself alone
Sadly, there's logical explanation - Windu and Jedi Council depended TOO MUCH on the force for guidance, instead of their own intellected. They were looking too long, too hard in wrong direction for help, their mental and spiritual discipline working against them in this case.

The military term for anakin and padme's forbidden relationship is "fraternization" and its surprising that the clones weren't inherently sterile.

I hope they make this into a tv show!
Never understood why the republic didn’t mass reprogram battle droids and commandeer enemy ships. Repossessing enemy tech and using it in mass would be an awesome way to save money on clones and infiltrating enemy forces.
I think the reason for it is that it's too much work and it's simply not worth it

Truly a wise order.
Haaaahahahaha XD got me cracking up

I come back to these days every year like they’re a movie series, shows how good these videos are
Well he got ads....
It is over 3 hours
Just fast forward to the end then click replay
@Pennywise The dancing clown 13 ads over 3.5 hours of videos. Lets do some quick math. 3.5*60 is 210 minutes. 210/13 is 16.15. So every 16 minutes and 4 seconds is an ad. That's a steal compared to watching all of these videos independently and having 3 ads play per video. Lets also account for the time spent making these videos, research, production, editing, rendering and uploading. That time is a lot of time to not turn a profit with having to buy source materials, equipment to produce/edit/render/upload, electricity and pay his crew.
Kind of wish he would name the clone
legions
There is a legion for every color
The 501st, and the 322nd, are all you need to know.
@@K0SH3R14 there are more legions than there are colours
@@axelpetersson5787 you know how many colors their are?

This is a late comment but i really Liked clone wars and No ad break No intro No nothin straight to buissness i really respect that :)
this has got to be one of the few videos i watched through without skipping forward once. amazing content ! keep up the good work :)

7:18 In my headcanon Obi Wan named his legion (The 212th) after the 212 jedi that came to rescue him on Geonosis. Specifically to honor the majority that died.
Bro you just blew my mind. That would definitely be something Kenobi would do. Damn.. that's part of my headcanon now too.
Kenobi is a total bro and that's why he's my favorite Star Wars character
This dude's Morgan Freeman impression is accidentally an excellent Brad Pitt impression 😅
I must admit, Anakin vs Trench episodes are my favorites. They did him dirty in season 7 though...
This is an unrivaled work of scholarship. I will show this to my fellow history grad students to show them how we should aspire to present the past. Well done.
To avoid watching any adverts skip to the last 15 seconds of the video and click replay.
Thank me later (: x
I'll thank you now. I only wish I saw your comment sooner. It was during one of the many ads that I was killing time by scrolling thru the comments and found your pearl. 💖 Thank you 💖
Lilly Anne Serrelio haha np! Have a great day.
Thanks but he needs the revenue
@@farmerdan7274 I'll compromise and watch the 1st ad. does it matter how long we watch ads? Do they earn more the longer the commerical runs or is it just a yes/no thing whether the ad loaded and began or not?
Lilly Anne Serrelio oooh yea thats a good question
Umm, your Grievous origins are a little off. You mostly gave us the Legends story. But in Legends his cough was due to Mace Windu crushing his chest with the Force and damaging his lungs.
In canon Grievous willingly underwent the cybernetic augmentations after the Jedi refused to train him.
Wait what he is force sensitive in canon?
@@ONEIL311 no that's why the jedi didn't train him. Since he wasn't force sensitive training wouldn't help him.
What about the backstory of him being gravely injured and being rescued by dooku?
Grievous had no real backstory, either in legends or canon.
The whole video seems to mix cannon and legends
Watching this video and then watching a recent one really shows how tough the last few years have been...
You just HAD to pass the 10 minute mark, didn’t you?
This video helps me see how weird the timeline was in the show during the first 3 seasons
"Anakin, being the rational individual he was" made me just burst in laughter
"oh no all my freinds are dead" 😂😂
When you realize this video is as long as the first year of the Clone Wars
when you realize I don't care
This video not only recaps the first year of the clone wars but it gives a breakdown into some of its aspects that you'd overlook. Very good. 👍
That moment you have nothing to do, you watch all of this
That's a long moment
Stonks Guy bro this is important stuff. In the near future this will be covered in the SAT
2:17:21 This touched my heart ❤
"The Jedi are going in blind." Cause Prosset Dibbs's species literally have no eyes. Good one Alan.
This helps me clean up my room somehow, thanks Allen!
2 straight hours of star wars followed by 20 minutes of life lessons then back to star wars.
Me: sees title
Still me: thinks it is the whole first season
*Finds out what it actually is*
You know what, I'm down.
Generation tech opened my eyes and made me realize that the Republic and jedi were the bad guys all along. Yeah you can say the CIS did some evil things but what military hasn't in war.
It’s just that the Seperatists, during this era, sprout from Sith, leading its covert intentions to be evil
“From my point of view the Jedi are evil “ 😂👌🏽

The Jedi were being manipulated by a Sith Lord…
1 year in Star Wars years = 3+ hours of content for us fans. ❤️
Clone wars changed the details of grievous becoming a cyborg. It wasn't the result of sabotage but gradual conversion. The statues tell the story.
Yea I grew up on those
General Grevious is portrayed a lot better in Clone Wars 2003 than the canon version. He's actually competent at the job, and not just some mustache-twirling cowardly saturday night villain.
My main take away from this video is that both sides did a fair amount of tactics that'd be considered war crimes to us.
"And potential sith lord jarjar binks"
I love how we all agree this guy is a sith
"This is essentially a children's cartoon"
