It's BASQUE, not Spain

- Simple answer: pintxos and sidra.
Complex answer: Basque is truly one of the most unique places in Europe.Located in the western Pyrenees mountains that spans parts of northern Spain and southwestern France, it’s culturally distinct with its own language, Basque (Euskara),and boasts rich cultural heritage, gastronomy, and beautiful landscapes.
San Sebastián has been high on my bucket list to travel because it’s renowned for food scene and highest concentrations of Michelin-starred restaurants per capita in the world.
What characterizes Basque cuisine is in the high quality of local ingredients. Surrounded by oceans and pastures, there’s an abundance of amazing produce ranging from the freshest seafood to fine meats. It’s also important to note that restaurant La Viña in San Sebastián is the birthplace of THE Basque cheesecake as well.
Pintxos culture in the Basque Country is about enjoying small, tasty bites on sticks. I like to call it the final boss of girl dinner and it's a fun way to experience Basque hospitality and food traditions.
I loved being able to go on a road trip around San Sebastián, Bilbao, and Vitoria. I know it’s not as popular as major cities / southern beach costal cities like Malaga but personally it was my favorite part of the journey.
If there’s 2 things to takeaway from this video, it’s this
Pintxos and Sidra
Hope you enjoyed this video, and thank you so much for your patience! I’m now back from my summer holidays and will be posting a lot more / regularly :) See you next in the Madrid video on Sunday!
Love you doobies heehee

If you get a chance to visit Bulgaria, you'd love their food culture and home-grown produce as well!❤
Seeing you appreciate their culture and way of living makes me so happy.
Ha ha we just got back on Friday from a holiday there - am looking forward to this!
dude the color grading is so adorable? it’s hard how to describe it; the bold reds and light blues are just so cute
Alot of Chinese/Vietnamese restaurants use spag. for their lo mein. They call it Chinese spag. sometimes. At least here in midwest USA. I love it.
Hey!! I was the guy that said Hello at the old town in Bilbao and recommended you the place for the basque cheesecake! you were so sweet (and you boyfriend too), I can’t see the video cuz my girlfriend is away (have to see it with her) but I bet this video is awesome, cheers ❤!
I'm from Barcelona (absolutely adore Pais Vasco ofc) and I just wanted to cry watching this. I was screaming in my head saying "YES" every time you went to a local bar/restaurant and tried the real food, not the instagram one. Even in the first restaurant outside Barcelona I was happy seeing you eating "galtes" (pork cheeks). Been following for years and this was my fav video so far. Thanks so much also for that professional, educated palate you have. Makes It more enjoyable to watch It.

The berated visage of your subjective animus is showing.
The little pintxo with the olive, the little pepper and anchovies is called Gilda in honor of Rita Hayworth movie "Gilda"! It's a classic in the Basque Country :)
I am basque from my grand mother and if I know the north of the country, I never went to San Sebastian. But omg with your video I so want to! I'm so proud to see my roots in your video and I love that you enjoyed sidra!
I'm from San Sebastian and I'm both Basque and Spanish. Where is the problem being both? And most people in San Sebastian will tell you the same thing. The title of the video is misleading. Part of the Basque country is in Spain, and the other part is in France. This might change in the future? Who knows, but as for today, and for all the past centuries, the Basque country never was an independent country or kingdom.
This series is one of the most high quality productions in YT (or like idk in media in general) rn. Like the vibes, the editing, music, the well dispersed facts throughout, it's so subtle and masterful. 💖 A treat honestly
Love the video! I am basque and i never thought i would end up watching a video of yours from my homeplace. Thanks and im glad you guys enjoyed your days here

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! I dont think you are going to see this, but, I am Basque, and I can tell you that we appreciate SO MUCH people like you sharing content about our region. The Basque Country has been trampled on for many years: our culture, traditions, our language, even our ideologies. Nowadays, in many places in Spain we are bad seen for wanting independence. By sharing this video you are not only teaching many people from all over the world about us, you are also generating a lot of pride in who we are and feel Basque. With all my heart, thank you very much for sharing our story, Tina. Sending you a big hug from Euskal Herria! Eskerrik asko, bihotz-bihotzez! Beti izango zara ongi etorria Euskal Herrian ❤️❤️
So true! Egidxe da, genre Euskal Herridxe euskaldune da, ezebez geidxau! ❤
Long live the Basque Country!! Being part of Spain doesn't mean Basques are Spanish.
- Being part of French Algeria does not mean Algerians are French
- Being part of British Raj does not mean that Indians are British
Talk for yourself, people that want independence are a minority. Many people in the Basque Country don't even know how to talk in euskera anymore and of course they want to be part of Spain.
@@ahsanurr4219people these days are mixed af, they are Spanish first because legally they are, and second because most of them are mixed with people from other parts of Spain, to think that basques are like an isolated race is just plain stupid
@@caleidoscopio4770 no manners.
I’m not Basque, but I am Spanish. And it brought me so much joy watching you enjoy the food and culture of País Vasco which isn’t the same but very similar to my own. Also to see you interacting so pleasantly with the locals. I can’t wait even more to eventually visit myself. If you haven’t been already, would be amazing to see you do a similar tour through Andalucía, beautiful places and food too! 😊
What a great friggin Video, I felt like i was there with you. And now I really need to go to basque country!
The thing that i love about this channel is that it makes me love a country/city with the places and things you do that other youtubers dont do as much if not at all. Keep it up plssss!
fr she inspires my own youtube content so much i hope to one day reach as many as she has
There's always, always a good energy about your videos. This took it up a notch, was so much more than a food experience.
I’m from Donosti (San Sebastian), grew up there, basque is my first language. I have been working and living in Shanghai for 4 years now, and although I truly miss my hometown and family, watching this video and your appreciation for our culture and food brought a lot of joy to me! There are so many good food places outside of the city tho, also places like Getaria, Zarautz and the french basque country are a must visit!
Hemen Zarauztar bat. 👋🏽
As a Spanish national, thank you for appreciating our food, culture and landscapes! I know Barcelona and the Basque Country is far from my home city (Madrid), but so many things are the same and it felt great to see you enjoy them 💕
im from barcelona and also grew up in Madrid so it is amazing seeing ppl share the culture of such a beautiful country
i always get so inspired especially now for my new youtube series about opening up my own little cafe
It's not Spain nor France, it's the Basque Country!!!
@@BerenizeKatakume do you have a Basque country passport?
@@MrAelin not necessary to have a passport to belong to ayn nation🤣 We're here before Latin, even before the Bible, what papers are you talking about?
I guess that for some people having the passport is the only way to be/show whatever they are... but that happens when you have a State but not a nation, when there's supremacist ideas but no national pride...
Identity and history, hence facts, don't equate to papers.
Enjoy your "passport identity" I guess!
Have a nice dayyyy!!!
I would say Madrid is more like jail than a home city, all tea all shade
from a basque fan of yours ty for sharing our culture, really when I saw the name of the video I screamed (lol). Seing you visiting my city (san sebastia) is kinda crazy. Btw idk if you had the chance to taste Zapiain cider but you should (not only saying bc it is my family's cidery), but truly, you are welcome to come to our cidery next time u visit :)
Wow it’s your family’s cider? That’s so cool
I’m so excited for you to learn Spanish dooby!! I’m learning it in school right now, and your motivation has inspired me to pick up Korean again as well. It would be my dream to be at least as fluent in Korean as I am in Spanish (which isn’t much lol), so if I can do it, you can do it too 🫶🫶
God the meats, the carbs, the seafood, everything looks so good😭and always love ur humor and commentary!!
Thank you so much for presenting our BASQUE culture so beautifully and without identifying Basque with Spain or France. Normally the world doesn't know about us and a video from a South Korean youtuber it's delightful! It made so happy!!!❤💚🤍 ESKERRIK ASKO!!!
PD: our cider it's called "Sagardoa" and it has a certificate of origin.
Thanks again and hope you enjoy the oldest living european nation, culture & language❣️ Welcome to the Basque Country! 🌳🌻🌊

@zhgyiyi4922 it's honestly complicated. Polandball even depicts Spain as a country with little lumps on it representing these other distinct regions like Catalonia and Basque since they are so ... individualistic about their differences
What a great explanation of how and why Pil-Pil sauce is made.
You just needed to mention that the name Pil-Pil is onomatopoeic as it refers to the sound the sauce makes as it slowly thickens in the pot.
Pil pil pil pil pil...
I am so in love with this! ❤❤❤
I'm glad I waited to watch this until after booking my tickets to Barcelona today. I go there for work every autumn. I also go to southern Spain for work sometimes. The produce is unbelievable! I always bring dried tomatoes back to Sweden. I can't wait to eat some of this delicious food!
As a spaniard, the north of Spain is the most beautiful, with best climate, people and FOOD!!
Glad you loved it and you are promoting it❤
i've been there once and loved it
also got to share some of it on my own youtube channel with my family which was so lovely
You probably didn't notice the title of the video is "it's Basque NOT SPAIN"😊😊😊
@@tomax5078 you probably did not noticed the "as a Spaniard" in mi original comment. So i think i know what I'm talking about.
Besides political questions we are not gonna discuss here now, the Basque Country is part of Spain and they are spaniard citizens.
Period.
@@suan333 I meant you, as Spaniard, might be seeing the title of the video for the Spanish version... which is different from the original. And the fact of having to change the title for the Spaniards helps the rest of the world understand why the Basques don't want to continue under Spanish occupation. You are not big fans of freedom when it comes to other countries...
@@tomax5078 i didn't know you knew me and knew my views and political ideologies.
Wow.
And what's supposed to mean "for the spaniard helps the rest of the world"?
The issue with the Basque Country and their wish for independence from Spain is long and veeeery antique. I don't know why you're trying to give me lessons or what's your intention when i just commented how proud and happy i am that the Basque Country gets the recognition it deserves, and again, as of today, they are part of Spain and I'm gonna be proud of it as a spaniard until the day they are their own independent country.
this is an incredibly video, so respectful and very BASQUE
Oh Tina, this came when I needed it most. I'm in quarantine again, the second time since New Years! 😂
I think this has been my favourite travel/food vlog so far. I had an uncle who lived in Bilbao; too bad I was never invited to visit him. 😂
I grew up eating bacalao, my Mom was from Nova Scotia and it was a way to preserve the fish over the long winter. She would refer to it as poor people's food because she grew up in a family that basically lived hand to mouth. However, I loved my Mom's family so much, I can't say the same for my Dad's family who were upper middle-class and too hoity-toity for me. You've really got me rethinking where I'm going to visit. I had planned on Japan, Korea or China but now, I think I need to see Basque country. Well done Tina and Kevin. 😊
hope you get better soon!
I lived in Nova Scotia for a month, during my younger years, visiting my aunt and uncle, wonder place.

Local guy here. I really do not know how do you make your research or who recommend you stuff, but all your choices are really amazing.
That is definitely not common.
Thanks a lot.
A couple of linguistic comments:
- Those pintxos with olive+chilli(guindilla)+anchovy are called Gildas. Officially the first invented pintxo around 1940, named like that in honor of Rita Hayworth movie.
- "Pimiento peppers" is a redundancy. That is to say "pepper" twice, once in Spanish and once in English. Those roasted red peppers are Pimientos del Piquillo or simply Piquillos.
- Goxua means, literally, "Sweet" in Basque.
And a couple of tips for the next time you drink Basque cider:
You don't half fill the glass and leave the cider there, warming and settling, in the table.
If you want to drink, you pour what you are going to drink (breaking the bubble on the side of the glass) and drink it immediately, still bubbly with all its aromas emanating.
You definitevly need to live the Basque Cider House experience.
Fresh cider directly from the barrel and freshly roasted meat.
