Picked up my Grenadier up March 7th. Have 2K miles on it. It's an incredible vehicle. Nice as a daily driver, fantastic off road. Someone just took a similar if not identical stock Grenadier to yours and ran the Baja 1000 start to finish with zero mods. Same spec as my Grenadier and Shale Blue too, like mine and yours. Sir Jim Racliffe, who conceived the Grenadier because of his love affair with the original Land Rover 110's has done a great job. He went to Magna Steyr in Austria, (who engineered and builds the Mercedes G-Wagon), to engineer and design the Grenadier. It's built more robust then the
G-Wagon. This vehicle is designed to last 25 years. Jump on in, the waters fine.

My local dealer has about 20 Grenadiers sitting on the lot ready for customers. I wanted to dislike it, but checking it out IRL... they are awesome. For the price that dealers are asking for the new Toyota LandCruiser - with a four cylinder engine, street tires and 8 inches of ground clearance... you can buy a Grenadier. Crazy.
It might be worse than that. I have a Grenadier and a couple of Toyotas. The service guys at the Toyota dealership (who love the Grenadier and told me they want to service it on the DL) told me to get a First Edition LC and the mods for lift, wheels etc so it doesn’t absolutely suck, I would be “looking at $100k - easy.” That includes dealer markup - which there is none for the Grenadier. Absolutely gobsmacked.

My late Father used to say never be the first to try out a new thing. Wait and see if anyone dies from it. Also Ben you are young enough not to remember how cars were ordered back in ancient times. Some packages were available but a lot of items were an individual option. And color choices were widely available. From what you say it seems like these folks are returning to that a bit.
The reason why they didnt go direct like Tesla or Rivian. The laws in US are antiquated and Electric car manufactuers were able to bypass the law of dealerships because the law was written for ICE. Ineos could have fought it but it would have taken 5 years and lot of cash to have goverment say yea no. So hence the dealer network was created.
They look super cool, i just have zero reason to trust them yet.
I'd say there are lot of reasons to trust them - and lots of good hardcore tests and reviews already on TH-cam. Like the most recent one from Australia's overlanding legend Ronny Dahl.

The biggest obstacle in my opinion is the distance to the dealership network if you do not live within a reasonable distance of a dealership.
Even with Toyota, dealers order spares from remote distribution centres. It has to be couriered in.

The green and the gray are the nicest colors in my opinion.

these things are super cool and I know magna is a great UK off road company. They use alot of the parts magna makes over seas to go wheelin and stuff. Also the engine has a great track record
having a Germqn drivetrain is a positive
Magna Steyr is an austrian company that was highly involved in manufacturing many great cars + parts (Mercedes G wagon for example) so they have a great reputation and build quality. It was a smart move by Ineos to gather a lot of high quality parts from the market for the grenadier instead of trying to build own solutions like a whole new engine or drive train.

I bought mine locally from Ron Tonkin in Portland, OR. Mines green with the brown leather interior accents. The off road/locker dif options and rock rails as well but that it. I LOVE mine!

Magna is a Canadian based company with plants worldwide gentleman named Frank Stronach started the manufacturing company years ago specializing in car parts and now cars themselves, thanks for the elucidation I did not know they made the Grenadier

Beautiful car and paying cash for cars makes all the difference. Back in the day, I drove a lot of beaters because I didn't have the $$ to buy new. Eventually worked my finances up to being able to buy new outright. And I have been there ever since. Like this car, I wonder if the new Land Cruiser will be a category killer. I'm kind of expecting that, but we will see. 3 reasons I would choose the new Land Cruiser. 1. Toyota quality. 2. Available parts and service network. 3. Afftermarket parts. New Land Cruiser will have huge aftermarket support no doubt.

Would have preferred the BMW I6 B57 turbodiesel but the aftertreatment equipment on those kills the reliability. Just bought a MY23 Ram Rebel 2500 HD with the Cummins last September, but will keep my eyes open for more on these as it comes out.
The options , both factory fitted and dealer supplied/fitted are clearly defined in the configurator.
I backed out because I drove it and I found the machine to be underpowered and the steering is too much work. Both are common reactions since they began deliveries.There is a lot to like about the machine and the price is fair.

I'm very curious to see the Grenadier Vs. Toyota Land Cruiser videos that you and others will do. The LC looks to have a more complicated engine and tranny. But it's more powerful and efficient along with Toyota reliability. But its still a turbo. Where the Ineos is old school straight 6. Which will be more reliable? Wheelbases are nearly identical. A 4x4 competition will be needed. I will also be interested in seeing which have the most articulation. I wanted a Grenadier at first but the LC is looking better on paper.
If they had a two-door option with a removable top like the original Defender, it would appeal more to me than it already is. Especially if they made a more base model with more simple materials. It looks great, though!
Inios do the best washing liquid ever, it’s expensive but it works and cleans your clothes brilliantly

The looks of the vehicle and the off-road features are awesome! For those that are interested, please comment on #1. The completely different feel in the steering characteristics (Not self-centering and a lot of play in the wheel to affect vehicle steering. Great for rough conditions off-road. Strange and unnatural for normal highway driving). #2. No lumbar seat adjustment (Even in the highest trim levels). #3. The brake and accelerator pedals are pushed far left of normal placement (Due to the large center console hump). While depressing the brake pedal with your right foot in a normal brake placement position, your foot rides on the far right edge of the large brake pedal.
-I wanted to love everything about this vehicle. Please evaluate these things before you purchase. A 10-minute test drive will confirm or deny my observations.

I learned my lesson when I got a brand new 1999 Harley Davidson. It had the new 88ci engine. I was a genie pig. There were so many issues. I never buy new versions for major purchases.
It would be interesting to see a comparison of the BMW 3.0L turbo I6 to the new Hurricane 3.0L turbo I6.

ANY turbo engine by definition is under stress compared to a NA engine. The concern is how much stress are you willing to live with as you contemplate mods or a tune.

Ben using lawn fertilizer is not complicated,less then doing an oil change.

I purchased a high end GM truck recently. The dealer service related to any type of warranty issue has been horrible. I don't understand how they can get away with how they do business.
If they ever add driver gauges i would consider one.

Personally I wouldn’t go throwing any money at it till you get some miles on it to prove it’s going to be reliable.
I think it's a fun product... lots of great features and it's quirky, which is always good. But the front end is uggggggly. I hope in future year revisions they tune that a bit.

Idios grenadier. A BMW engine is reliable? They have a built in oil absorbing pad on the cover underneath the engine so you don’t see the oil leaks before your warranty is up.

Options means “more money”
First you said the motor is super reliable. Then you said it was relatively reliable, which is it? There's a big difference between the 2.
And it may be reliable in the short-term if you take extra good care of it, but those engines Are not super reliable in the long term. More accurately. You could say they are of average reliability or slightly below. I think that would be more honest. Anyway, I like your channel either way blessings

I think he means people get 800 hp relatively reliable on the engine. The one in the grenadier is acutally detuned, so it should be very reliable.
@@BenHardyCars If it didn't have the turbos and all of those plastic engine parts that are known to deteriorate I would agree. But you probably won't run into many issues. Because you tend to swap your cars before They get any kind of higher mileage. Or extra years on them
I really like the blue…it’s almost exactly the same shade as my gravel bike…. Interesting info on insuring - hadn’t thought about that. I think it may be interesting getting the unique parts later on. Otherwise, it looks interesting.

Yup, the Toyota V6 with a supercharger, which they use in the Lotus Emira. I am sure they could tune it to about 300hp and 280 tq. It is a the “Camry” engine which has been proven to be very reliable.
I think it looks cheap when the mirrors and bumpers and grill are not body colored. Also for half the money you could get a mint condition series 100 Land Cruiser or an LX 470 and have a much better vehicle that will last longer and be easier to maintain.
Alternate opinion: those cars that are all color matched make you look like a poser.
@@jterranova the reason manufacturers go with black or grey no matter the body color is to cut expenses. I'll stay with my LX470. When Lexus built that they didn't cheap out on the design.
Black is preferable on off-road vehicles. One less thing to scratch, and if you have to replace it, you don't have to worry about buying the color, matched one or paying more to have it painted.
You're a fine example of Toyota fan delusion. No, a 100 Series is not going to last as long as the Grenadier. No it is absolutely NOT going to be cheaper or easier to maintain. You're talking about 30 year old vehicles that have 30 years of grime, dirt, and rust accumulation. Seals, hoses and lines, eletrical stuff... its starting to biodegrade and will need replacing. Engines, even the very best, don't last forever. I'm happy you enjoy your 470 and all. But goodness... delusional.
This is hilarious- the bumpers are metal - like any decent off-road vehicle. Painted bumpers are only for pavement princesses.
Ineos wants to be your aftermarket for this car way too much kinda like the Lexus GX550 they are even selling fridges for that rig on the build sheets

I finished watching the video w a few conclusions..
Any Grenadier dealer or salesman that watches this will stab themselves in the eye w a screwdriver or jam a knife in their chest or both..
Yes they thought about insurance and financing.. you don't have to do any leg work or talk to the guy that insures tractors or hay bailing machines.
Second, this company has been doing an absolute slow walk into every market. There is zero mystery about these vehicles,a couple of years ago you could know about every part used down to the brand of lug nuts used. The price for these vehicles is in line or cheaper than many options. Look at Chevy or Ford and top end SUVs are near the price.. Range Rover. and Mercedes both sell something and there is parity pricing in all. And Tesla is an absolute disaster. Cars are in free fall and many lose more than @40% of price through catastrophic depreciation. But unlike Tesla all the vehicles in this class come w features that you can use on a test drive or the day you get your vehicle. Tesla still trying to do software updates so the car you bought will resemble the one that was promised.
And the other thing that sticks out is mentioning car companies that are out of business or near out . and saying . sending your car across country for service is ..a hassle..who wouldn't have thought that in the back and forth email exchange from sales representative.. where will I get service? Drive to the train station and load your car on a flat bed rail car
