Best and most honest and trusted review I have seen , INEOS are not silly lending you that car , if it goes well they will sell a lot more from this series of videos.
I too called Ineos about the fans going off after l turned off the vehicle. I can confirm it's DPF burn off once every 1250km approx for me. I have owned a Trialmaster edition for 1 year now and have absolutely no regrets.
BMW have used electric thermo fans for a long time. The fans and the electric water pump in some models stay on after shutoff to prevent engine damage. They also can have pumps start up prior to first starts when the car is opened in prep for running.
Agreed, DPF is the answer that I got. bit nerve wracking as encountered at 500km from pickup on the way home. It has also occurred after 1km drive when cold. Now comfortable with this happening.
@@andypearce7479 I was sitting in a shopping centre car park reading a book in Hervey Bay while me wife ran in to get something. Our Audi Q5 Diesel does the same thing sometimes. Runs adblue which was a bit of an eye opener when we first got it. 75lt fuel tank and 27lt adblue blue. Gets topped up at the annual service or 15k kms.
Great review Ronny I have ordered a grenadier and these are thing I am ordering for it: Owl outdoor-Accessoires mounting rail for the UHF Agile Offroad - Spare Tire Carrier Relocation Bracket GP Factor - Folding Tailgate Table with Extended Storage Cubby LeTech - replacement rear ladder that can have 20 Jerry can behind it. All can be removed when you give it back and no holes need to be drilled.

Ronny , i thought this is how the review of the trip would go for you, I don't own Grenadier, however i have watched probably more than my share of ones made in the English language, your knowledge and thoroughness is what made this trip so safe and successful, there is a table available for that door at the back and also an optional auxiliary tank for fuel available, Having the option Rotopack and other diesel can gave you what you needed, that little battery powered fuel pump, they work freaking good i bought one for the same purpose and it sure didn't take long to empty the tank of fuel, 5o litres was only 6 minutes, was sold on it, your next trip will be even better Epic video 👍
Hi Ronny, your videos with all the details has help me to decide to buy an Ineos grenadier. I’m a craftsman from northern Germany and I need a car with capabilities for towing trailer on- and off road ! Also my employees are very happy about this decision !
Really excellent videos, thank you. I'm collecting my Grenny next weekend and while here in the UK I won't be doing anything near as hard-core as you, I will be some some parks and mountains in northern Scotland. Hearing your confidence in the vehicle, plus all the foibles, makes me feel like I already understand the machine a bit before I get her, and I already have confidence in the solidity. Thanks for the great info.
The more I drive mine, the more I like it. Recently we did a couple of rougher tracks with friends in other vehicles. The Grenadier was the only vehicle that did not even need a second go at any obstacle. I agree with you about building confidence in the vehicle. My confidence in the vehicle continues to grow.
Great video. One thing tho about the foam - I would attach it to that bracket such that it isn't touching the window. As it is now, that bracket, thru the foam, is putting pressure on the window where before it was not. A good enough jolt and that window could give way. Just use the foam to protect the window in the event the bracket actually does move enough to contact the window.
Well done Ronny, what a fantastic opportunity to be able to have such a vehicle for such a long time to test and run through it's paces in the real world. Hat's off to the owner too
Regarding the foot rest, a semi fix: remove the OEM floor matt, it has so much padding behind it, I cut a replacement floor mat out of some thin rubber and gained a bit more space for my left foot, where it now almost isn’t an issue for me

Ronny, I’ve run power directly from the auxiliary battery to an Anderson plug for the fridge on the other side, where you located your fridge. I’ve also added a dc to dc charger connected to an Anderson plug at the rear of the vehicle that I connect a solar blanket to recharge the auxiliary battery. There is also a water tank option if you don’t go down the pantry path. I haven’t done the lift or gone to bigger tyres so I’m very keen to understand whether the gearing works as effectively with the bigger tyres and what the fuel consumption was after the change. I’ve gone for the petrol engine trialmaster with bull bar and side steps which is a gem to drive, but not good on fuel. I also went for the 2 tone leather heated seats which are bloody awesome. I don’t care if they are impractical 😀

I love it. My only concern is the small fuel tank, my old '68 Landy had three tanks stock standard, plus jerry cans front and back so I never worried about fuel. But I see that you've found a solution. It seems like a very robust platform. I did a meager test compared to you, but I plan to buy one and put it through its paces ! I really enjoy your reviews because they are so practical. Thanks !!
Now I want a Grenadier! Love the fuel containers and side pods. So handy! I’ve got a rear luggage barrier in my discovery 4. Very hand for added storage as you can attach to the barrier.
Great review. I have the ineos table on the back door option. It not only works well as a table, but also for extra storage, as it has a grid you can strap stuff too, that ends up facing downwards whenn the table is in use. I got a light bar from black sheep that sits in front of the skly lights , so no with glare. .
Thanks for another honest and informative real world review of the Grenadier. Have a look at Bison Gear for a high level shelf and divider. I have one and it’s great for extra internal storage. The DPF turnoff fans standing on at stop the engine compartment over heating is an annoying feature. Not great if you were trying to be stealth.
Glad you mentioned the foot well and the fan. You forget the footwell after a while, no problem at all. The fan worried me as well so I’m glad you explained 😊
You should buy this and modify away as you did the 79. Very nice vehicle and would love to see a few years ownership with big mods. Like a pop up roof instal. So far this the best review of the grenedier online full stop.
Some years ago when Land Rover announced the end of the Defender Production, my heart sank in sadness for such a loved and iconic car. However my joy was restored when Ineos decided to revive the Defender with the Grenadier, and what a great revival. I've been watching the development of the Grenadier ever since it was announced and I am truly pleased to see how well designed and built it is. Surely there will be a few minor teetthing problems here and there but I feel absolutely confident that Ineos will iron them out all in due time. These kinds of gruelling tests carried out by Ronny proves that the Grenadier will endure well and as comfortably and reassuring as designed to be. Bravo Ineos, job well done.
Dunno why your heart sank. The new Defender improves upon and takes up where the old one left off. It’s far better in every way and better than the Grenadier hands down.
Well done Ronny, another great review, I spotted you’d bought the rear ladder with the Jerry can holder 😉. I’m going to get one of those myself. I ended up going for 33”’s on mine as the price was so good I was able to get a second set of wheels for the same price as just the 34” tyres. By the way AUTEL make TPMS sensors which can be cloned to the vehicle so you can have a second set of wheels and still use TPMS. Way cheaper than the factory ones. I have had the Thermo fans going after stopping too, it’s the DPF burn. Wading mode is supposed to turn that off by the way, but I don't know if it would do it mid burn. One thing to watch out for in the desert: There’s a tiny pin that holds the transfer case gear lever knob in place, they are known to pop out, its located right where your finger goes under the round ball. Familiarise yourself with the removal and replacement procedure before you go, it’s on the INEOS forum. Or put some tape over it or hot glue it in as I did. If it happens in the middle of a desert trip with no internet you’ll be pissed as it’s a bit of a head scratcher putting it back in. Mined been fine since I glued it.
A lot of modern turbo engines (diesel and petrol) have a kind of cool down cycle that they can go into. They usually have a small electric water pump built into the cooling system which continues to circulate coolant through the turbo and around the engine with the rad fans running. My I20N does it if I don't give it enough "turbo time" before I shut it off, especially after a long highway stint or after having some "fun".
Really pleased you are doing a real test of the Grenadier. And a good deep dive into its capabilities too. Was hoping for a detailed review of extended off-road use by you or ASW 👍
I like it! Would be great to see a vid comparing the changes needed to be made to the old 79 vs the new Cruiser vs Grenadier for them to be workable overlanders😀
Same here, best real world review I have seen. Being in the UK it was interesting to hear your view on the left foot space, that near ironing board size platform still feels like a miss and hopefully something the Gen2 will fix. On the road I’ve heard the steering is (more suited to off road) slow to return to centre, so it takes more effort than you would expect.
Just back from 2800km trip to Kennedy Range, Gascoyne region, Western Australia, including the loop track anti-clockwise. My grenny went very well, through countless gnarly rocky washouts, sheep station deep-sand country with one side running down creek beds at 10-15 degree attitude. Used 20psi. Didn’t need diff locks and only once needed low range. Had a similar noisy thermo-fan and/or DPF burn off at Wooramel River camp, disturbing the peace and quiet for 10 mins after an 815km journey. I disowned the car until it stopped - it was embarrassingly loud!
The cooling fan thing is a common feature in many cars I think... Almost all vehicles I have driven, specially with German engines, keep the fans running for a while after a long trip in summer conditions. A trick to avoid too much fan noise after the trip is to turn the AC off a few km before you get to the parking.
Mine cost me $121K when I bought it but would now cost $153K for as close to the same spec as you can get. I don't see the price coming down anytime soon.
If I had the money, yes! You put it through more than I could even if I went to west Texas. I love the ready to attach system and the spare tire cargo area is a win👍🏼 I am going to fab something for my Fj.
I test drove the Quartermaster LWB Pickup at The Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK yesterday and was blown away with its performance in a muddy chalk pit with some 31 degree hills to climb & decend- They also had a V8 powered version of the Grenadier on their stand - Check out The Alu-Cab Silenus Roof Conversion - Cheers from the UK :)
Great review the fans worried me too when they kept running but it’s normal and hadn’t killed the batteries. Love the machine especially after a lift and steering front stabiliser fox replacement
Good review. Nice to see the Grenadier being put through the paces for what it was intended. It seems to be a well thought out vehicle for a first year right off the "drawing board" design. I think it will only get better as it gets more use and exposure. I think there should be an option for an interior mounting system for a radio and mic, cell phone and ipad screen. Given the aircraft style dash layout I think it would be easy to integrate this as a factory option. There are aftermarket options, but usually require drilling into the dash to mount.
Love what you have done to it so far, i was really wanting to not like the Grenadier when i first saw the design being a Lifelong Land Rover fan but i think its the defender that Landrover could and should have built instead of going upmarket with the L663. I saw a YT video but a Melbourne based owner that Brown Davis have made a 68 litre auxillary tank now which should alleviate the range issue.
Another great video mate, your on a roll. The fans staying on will be a BMW thing. Lots of german cars have fans running for ages aftet they are turned off.
Great review! The left hand steering ones doesn’t have the issue with the foot well. Love mine, so much I already have my second one on order. Gonna get a ethanol converted gasoline for tax reasons.
Before watching, I’d say the Ineos did fine. I mean it was designed from the beginning with a focus on off-road use. I wish more manufacturers took that approach.
It’s looking to be a great 4WD, can’t wait to see the Ute version, thanks for the inspiration, looking to get out and about again not had chance recently, we live in a wonderful state for off-roading . 👍
Audi with TDI engine do the same, if you turn the car of during a DPF regen, then the fans will kick on full speed to cool the DPF and prevent potential fire or damage from excessive heat. I was worried at first, but got used to it.
Interesting points, Ronny. The vehicle seems pretty stout, but not without issues. However, every vehicle, no matter who makes it, has its issues. I love my truck more than I love most relatives, but it is not lacking in the short-comings department. But, with that being said, I am impressed on the lack of issues this vehicle is having, being that its essentially brand new to the market. As time goes on, there will be issues come up with this platform. But, so far, it seems promising. And to add, it seems to be ridiculously capable right out of the box. Moreso than most vehicles. Maybe that has something to do with the live front axle and half-decent articulation from factory. Either way, I am enjoying being able to tag along this journey through your videos. Love your channel!
It's a well designed car,and your right about driving it over time compared to a test drive. So the canning stock route next Ronny? Please take you friend when he's back from S.A that's if he still talking to you🤣🤣🤣
I really enjoy watching this car. Would love to see if they take your review seriously and fix the issues in a new model. Id buy one, but im 6’5 and when i was confronted with the footwell issue, it was a hard no. Would love to see you buy and modify it properly with kitchen. It’s also screaming for a RTT. Everyone does the Landcruisers and Prados, they’re good, but it’s getting old. New content is good content 👍
Ineos make a table for the rear door. On heavy corrugations with the hinge folded the elbow rattles against the table so table needs small foam or rubber pad on each side.
That foam installation was a good idea. Love the Grenadier videos! Edit: you mentioned needing another table.. I just saw a Grenadier video that showed an accessory table which was attached on the inside of the back door. It also had a pull out cutting board underneath the table & a little area in that recessed spot in the door to use as a spice rack. I thought it seemed like a smart design. Edit edit- I should’ve watched the whole video before commenting, since you obviously had it figured out🤣
Looks awesome Ronny! I see you’ve already fitted a new rear ladder with a Jerry Can holder. You should throw the new Brown Davis tank in and then you’ll have no range issues.
Fans running: Not sure about diesels, but in gasoline cars and some motorcycles the fans can run if it is hot right after turning the IGN off. You can just start the vehicle again. It will run the water pump and cycle the coolant and the fans will cool it all down faster. Shut off the engine right after the fans turn off.
The Grenadier was designed to accommodate 32” tires… and with the addition of snow chains it would take 33’s without rubbing. During hot weather tests a set of 33 inch sand tires were fitted just to prove how much the fitting of different tires would make to its sand driving ability. Magna spent a huge amount of time and effort perfecting the suspension of the Grenadier so I find it a bit odd that the weekend warriors think they can improve on it just by giving it a tiny lift.
Those Fan running thing does every/most* Diesel Euro 5 and Up Volkswagen/VAG-Group, too. Its when the burned the DPF, so the coolend all the parts that get extremly hot. So their is no switch for turning this of because doing it, or doing it often will damage it. You could disconnect your battery but thats a recommendation. BTW: Your 2.8 Prado could do this do also. For preventing it, get a scan gauge and wait till the DPF is down under 2, 3 or was it 5 percent. *Diesel that do not do the fan thing, will have a thermos controlled electronically water Pump. That systems isn't as effective for cooling all parts that work with the DPF, but your battery wont run just long enough to cool it down.
@@1FiftyOverland yep I used to sponsor him on patreon as I loved his travel videos. Got over Harry talking shite all the time and also got over constantly seeing shorts so I pulled the pin too. Good to see a different video hit my suggestions for a while.
The fan staying on meant the dpf burn out procedure had not finished. It is typical behavior in Audi diesels and most likely all VAG cars. During that proces the engine exhaust gases run hotter and it is advised to not shut off the car during that proces. In extreme situation your car may catch fire from the exhaust pipe, therefore, when this happens I always get back on the road and ensure there is sufficient air flow to help cool down the system.
Will be getting the side carrier with the big fuel pod. I can’t get my head around how wide the other ones are though so it’s a no to them. I have the ineos rear door table and it’s good but there are some aftermarket ones that have an additional slide out now and if I was retrofitting I would probably get one of those. Black sheep also has a table that attaches to the rear passenger door tracks that tempts me. The fans are loud and it happened quite a bit when I first got the car but seems to happen pretty rarely now that they continue post shutdown

Thanks for testing the Ineos Grenadier. Great Video!
Such a good balanced review, thanks Ronny.
Looks like a pretty great all around vehicle so far. Great content. Cheers from Oregon, USA...
Loving the Ineos content Ronny and now looking forward to seeing how it goes on a desert trip, thanks heaps 👍👊
A most comprehensive test I've ever watched and a well balance review.
On a side note I was trying to shoo the flies away for you but it didn't work.
After 2 weeks and 3,000 Km’s of adventure travel in my Grenadier I love it!
You're giving me some good ideas. 👏 I can see you appreciate this build. 💪
Grenadier's look good. Really good. I wouldn't buy one before they're proven, but definitely interested. Thanks for the video.
Mine cost me $121K when I bought it but would now cost $153K for as close to the same spec as you can get. I don't see the price coming down anytime soon.
You guys must be loaded
If I had the money, yes! You put it through more than I could even if I went to west Texas. I love the ready to attach system and the spare tire cargo area is a win👍🏼 I am going to fab something for my Fj.
I test drove the Quartermaster LWB Pickup at The Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK yesterday and was blown away with its performance in a muddy chalk pit with some 31 degree hills to climb & decend- They also had a V8 powered version of the Grenadier on their stand - Check out The Alu-Cab Silenus Roof Conversion - Cheers from the UK :)
Love the thoroughness of the review, thank you.
More than a good insight into the Ineos. some good stuff on storage and lighting too when you don't have a full fit out.
Great review, Great camera work. Ineos should have this on their website.
Great video Ron. Love your honesty and thorough opinions.
Cant wait for the desert trip! Love the Grenadier and love listening to your thoughts and ideas on this vehicle Ronny! Enjoy man, stay safe.
I think I'd prefer the Brown Davis extended range fuel tank. Slot a 500x1000mm Lifetime camp table in. Water in tough bladders doesn't slosh.
Keep those videos rolling out, so much to learn! Top job.
Those fans - owners are calling it helicopter mode. Concerning the first time you hear it.
It's more hovercraft than helicopter.
Extremely valuable information Ronny, thank you!!!
Especially that left foot exhaust hump!
Me thinks the Grenadier just might make the cut
Best review I've seen so far. Just waiting for tatts to come in.
We were driving to Sharkbay as well nice it there. We stayed in one of the accommodation there.
Good honest review on the ineos .
Now do you want to be the first ever Aus jorno to do an honest review on a Rubicon ?
Ineos make a table for the rear door. On heavy corrugations with the hinge folded the elbow rattles against the table so table needs small foam or rubber pad on each side.
Love the review, love one of these cars. Unfortunately never will be able to afford on.
Looks like a very good vehicle - I would have considered buying one but no dealerships in Atlantic Canada.
The wait is killing!! Comparo Ronny!! 🤜🤛
Take a look at Bison Gear for the rear door table and a useful cargo shelf. I think it will work well with your setup.
Remember: damper = damps vibration. Dampener = makes things damp.
Edit edit- I should’ve watched the whole video before commenting, since you obviously had it figured out🤣
Good feedback cheers from Perth
Looks awesome Ronny! I see you’ve already fitted a new rear ladder with a Jerry Can holder. You should throw the new Brown Davis tank in and then you’ll have no range issues.
I saw the new ladder in the background🕵️
Is it the LeTech item or is someone local making a more cost effective version?
Yuusss Ronny
Has given his viewers real world testing in case they're thinking of buying one..
Kudos to ineos...
Kudos to ineos and ot
Fans running: Not sure about diesels, but in gasoline cars and some motorcycles the fans can run if it is hot right after turning the IGN off. You can just start the vehicle again. It will run the water pump and cycle the coolant and the fans will cool it all down faster. Shut off the engine right after the fans turn off.
I’m just excited they offer the Grenadier in the States for the 2024 model year…very interested in this vehicle…
I thought the whole point of the vehicle was that the normal mods were built in.
Great video Ronny. Looking forward to seeing the dessert trip 👍
Honest review. Best so far.
How come you don't do trip videos anymore? That's the whole reason I subscribed
Shorts are easier, and probably generate the same revenue if not more.
@nicholaswirth1011 welp I unsubbed awhile back and only see his videos now when they are suggested, mostly the grenadier videos
@@1FiftyOverland yep I used to sponsor him on patreon as I loved his travel videos. Got over Harry talking shite all the time and also got over constantly seeing shorts so I pulled the pin too. Good to see a different video hit my suggestions for a while.
Love the bull bar.
Table is slatted so can also be used to hang gear off when folded and door closed.
My thoughts are, this truck suites you well and should have it in the fleet.
Finally a trip is mentioned! I miss them
Good news. There is a factory option for a table on the larger boot door.
You should get a Davos Lightranger. Best camp light I’ve ever had.
Great, well balanced video, Cheers Ronny!!!
I’m loving your review of the Grenadier
The fan staying on meant the dpf burn out procedure had not finished. It is typical behavior in Audi diesels and most likely all VAG cars. During that proces the engine exhaust gases run hotter and it is advised to not shut off the car during that proces. In extreme situation your car may catch fire from the exhaust pipe, therefore, when this happens I always get back on the road and ensure there is sufficient air flow to help cool down the system.
You are living the dream! Good on you!
