The price is the biggest problem
The biggest problem is a complete lack of service and support. If you do actually manage to source a spare part, you have time to take out a second mortgage before the part arrives.
Every off roader or car is over priced for what they are now
They’re all pre-sold. So sounds like people are ok with the price.
The latch design...needs improvement. Everything else: awesome 👍🏻👏🏻
The reason the price is the biggest problem is that everything else about the IG is very impressive. Are there things about it that each of us would change or prefer otherwise? Absolutely! But if you step back, it is an amazing first edition of a vehicle that has so many features we all dream about having in one vehicle. Will service and support improve, it will have to. Will the price go down? No. Will the vehicle end up to be “reliable”? TBD! But I can tell you this, if money were no object I would get one. Of course, that’s not reality. So we are left with trade offs.
Great 3rd vehicle for rich people who don't need to consider 5 years ahead.
💯
So, what’s wrong with that? Fun factor in CO mountains awesome!
@2Greenlid there's nothing wrong with it. Just awkward that this thing has been positioned by many reviewers as a normal car for regular offroad people. They should call it what it is.
If they were serious about building a reliable, easy to maintain off roader that doesn’t need an extensive dealer network to keep running…..they’d have never sourced BMW parts.
This is a toy for people who don’t need a real off road vehicle. It’s not a real, purposeful Land Cruiser 70 series alternative.
@@illinoistiger8694😂😂😂 they should have fitted a Toyota engine, transmission and all major parts!!!
The UK spec offers several versions significantly cheaper than this, including the commercial versions that don't have side windows or back seats. They also have the Quartermaster pickup version, which can even be ordered as a cab/chassis without a bed, which will be a very popular foundation for people building overland campers. Ineos made a very deliberate decision to only offer the Grenadier in the US as a very low volume but highly priced vehicle.
I know but even the most basic one is 65 grand in the UK. You can get an awful lot of other stuff for that.
The Low Volume/High Price US market strategy is because of the "Chicken Tax" tariff that was implemented, I think by Nixon. Not sure which U.S. President implemented it right now. The "Chicken Tax" is a tariff that was instituted on all imported trucks and commercial vans in response to a imported poultry tariff that was put on U.S. poultry by Europe. The tariff on U.S. poultry no longer exists, but the U.S. tariff on import trucks and commercial vans does. I believe the only bypass on this is NAFTA which allows trucks to be made in Mexico and Canada without the tariff. This is why the Toyota Tundra and Tacoma and Nissan Titan and Frontier are built in the U.S. Years ago, I read in Car & Driver magazine that all of the Ford Transit Connect and RAM Promaster City were being built in Europe. The commercial versions were getting around the tariff by being built, shipped and imported with rear passenger seats qualifying them as "passenger vans". Once the commercial vans had cleared customs the rear seats are removed and shipped back to Europe to be put in more vans. The "Chicken Tax" is also why the Subaru BRAT had two rear facing seats in it's truck bed.
@@The_Opinion_of_Mattit was Lyndon Johnson who introduced the “chicken tax”. The automotive portion of that tariff was to appease GM(and avoid a strike in an election year) by taxing VW vans. It’s an outdated tax that should’ve been repealed years ago.
@@nolefaninil Thanks for the info. I'm torn on whether it should go away or not. If it went away then we would likely be able to buy things like the 70-series Land Cruisers or the Unimog, but it being in place has probably helped retain U.S. manufacturing jobs.
@@The_Opinion_of_MattI spoke to the manager at my Ineos dealer - he said the head of Ineos US had been out to visit and asked about prospects for the Quartermaster. He said he thinks the chicken tax will kill its prospects in the US - as you said, also kills off the commercial config for the Grenadier.
I’m glad you all are sort of liking it… I’m just not convinced… I DID have a pre-order in for one. I backed out after seeing one in person. The 2nd row doesn’t fold flat, the battery is under the back seat but there are no key holes to unlock the back doors or interior blips to flick to unlock the back doors, the power steering pump is ran by an electric motor turning a pump when you have a gas engine under the hood that can do it just fine. THAT adds to the complexity. Like Roman said, the grenadier is just as complicated as any BMW but you just don’t get all the features of a BMW, nor access to the BMW warranty network. When I test drove one, that key isn’t like old school ignitions where it directly engages a starter solenoid, that key just tells the computer to start the car. That’s not “simple” or “old school” it’s simulated “old school”. The transmission has no mechanical shift linkage, so if you have an electrical failure off-roading and you can’t get power, how do you put the thing in neutral? My understanding on BMW’s you gotta lay under the car and do something funky. With it being full time 4x4 there isn’t even a mechanical neutral to the transfer case. Then you add in things like electronic level adjustments to the headlights, it’s just too much to go wrong and too many electrical stuffs. Where they put the power steering electric motor they could have moved the pump to the engine and put the battery where the pump is at now. I can go on… this isn’t a “haters gonna hate” this is a I left them a deposit and waited to see the final product but was deeply disappointed. Then you add that any dealer is 80 miles one way from my house and from what I’ve heard, parts are SUPER expensive I’ve heard a key is over $1,000. Why? Haha that’s crazy. The list goes on. Even things like the air con. You pick a temperature, it has automatic climate control, what’s the matter with 4 fan speeds and a lever to actuate between hot and cold and an button that turns on a little relay that engages the air conditioning compressor? Why did they have to go automatic climate control? Now you have little motors under the dash that open and close valves and ducts and stuff. ALL of that adds to the complexity!
What's more messed up on the power steering is that if they just used electric assisted power steering (Like has been totally reliable in cars for at least 2 decades at this point) they could take out the middle man altogether and remove the hydraulic system completely. It's not like the steering feel for cornering on the limit matters for an off roader (Or you'll get it with a beam axle in the first place), so the lower inertia on good hydraulic steering systems is irrelevant. If the hydraulic system is used because it's better at resisting the wheel getting pulled out of the driver's hands when a wheel hits something at speed this might justify it, but a worm and roller electric assist system would do this perfectly well too.
TLDR
@@Fedgery007 Why would you go to the trouble of replying to tell the world your attention span is negligible, when you could have said nothing and not been pitied by the adults making useful contributions to the comments?

I love this truck. ❤❤ Truly an old shcool, utilitarian vehicle.
Old school????? How many computers does it take to qualify as old school?😂😂😂😂😂
Except if it was actually those things it would be $40k
$80k for a old school🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Utilitarian ain't 6 figures lmaoo
I started driving in 1969 and this vehicle has electronics like a spaceship compared to anything I had back then. When I'm speeding I know I'm speeding I don't need a vehicle to tell me not to. If it weren't for the price I'd love to have this vehicle.
I think the steel wheels are a right choice for this vehicle! It goes with the purposeful part of the vehicle. Love them and happy to see others starting to offer. I would not want aluminum on this.
My grandfather had a Toyota FJ40 in a very similar color. That is one vehicle I miss.
My Grenadier has no speed warning. Turned off and stays off from delivery. I've owned it 9months and covered 6000miles. It is a diesel and I'm in the UK. Great channel guys.👍
UK is out of European Union 😊
I'm sure it's a UK spec thing.
@@MasterObiWanKenobi-db5ti, as far as I remember, the US was also out of the European union
@@MasterObiWanKenobi-db5tiAs someone who lives in the EU, there's no law I've ever heard of that requires the car to warn you if you're exceeding the speed limit, though the EURO NCAP crash tests might give passive safety points for it (Which devalues the rating system as it can allow structurally poor cars to still get a decent looking overall test result if they add all the electronic systems).
Any warning system that beeps at the driver will end up turned off all the time, making it useless in the real world. I would however love a set of speed limiter buttons for 30, 50 and 60 km/h where I press the button on passing the speed limit sign and the car won't go over the set limit unless I turn it off again or override it by flooring the throttle. This would be unbelievably useful for urban areas (Especially with the massive difference between pedestrian survival on impact at 50 vs. 60 km/h - 32 vs. 38 mph - irrelevant for the US though as the only way to explain what's going on in motoring there is to work on the basis that anyone walking around outside is presumed to be poor and therefore not worth considering in a crash in the first place).
In stop start traffic it's easy to drift over the limit unintentionally, and your eyes are best used to look at the road rather than the speedometer in urban driving anyway, but nobody is offering anything like it, even though it would be dirt cheap to add (Literally a few lines of code in the ECU and a few buttons in the dashboard) compared to all the extra cameras and sensors cars are being shipped with instead.
Also since most cars are calibrated to display higher than actual speed on the speedometer (The odometer/trip meter distance, calculated from the same input speed data is accurate, so they know exactly what they're doing), that warning would probably be going off 2-3 mph before you're even at the speed limit too.
@@MB-jz3uuIt's a MY24 thing. UK MY24 vehicles have the ADAS package.
I don’t hate the way the screen is monochromatic since I find myself driving at night a lot and it is way less distracting than a more colorful display is to me
For what these costs I'll take the new Land Cruiser or the Overland GX550. Really no excuse for the lack of content (heated seats, blind spot monitoring, etc.) at this price point.
You can get heated seats, I have them, they are better than my BMW X5 or Toyota/Lexus for heat. They were nice in last week snow storm in Colorado.
Oooh! Please no blind spot monitoring and any of that crap. Stop building cars for bad drivers... I'll shoulder check thanks.
@@explore_off_road For Kia's, its $20 more per mirror (bought as a replacement part vs the one without). Why not offer it? You can build it all into the mirror without any computers or anything.
Why they are nowhere near as strong and rugged as a grenadier.
Keep those videos coming 👍, it surprise me that fact that we in USA are getting those vehicles , there’s many vehicles we don’t get here like Mercedes G class professional , New Suzuki Jimny etc
I’m in love with this vehicle after seeing TFL and other channels’ videos. As someone who has always preferred good steering and road feel, the steering feel described here will likely prevent me from actually buying one. I’ll be watching to see if Ineos revises this in any way.
I think I'll stick to my 2010 2 door JK. Bought it for 17k Canadian (13k US) with 30,000 miles. Installed a 2 1/2" lift, stubby bumpers, winch, 35" tires, and old school KC incandescent Daylighters with the happy faces🙂. All in it was under 17k US about 5 years ago. Love the truck, brings back memories when I take off the top and throw in some CCR, as I used to own a 74 CJ5 with a 304 V8 and side pipes in the 70's. That thing was so cool, wish I never sold it. Cheers from Canada.
10x more practical than this and 5x cheaper too.

Working for a John Deere Dealership, I deal with ZF tand Carraro all the time. These are transmissions and axles used in construction equipment! Pretty cool to see that stuff end up in a passenger car!
You guys at JD HAVE to work out a service deal with Ineos - PLEEEEEEAAAAAASE!!!! We need more service locations. There is literally one Bosch certified mechanic in my town - they do classic BMW’s and Mercedes. They can’t even get my Grenadier up on their lift - it’s too heavy!
Have about a 1k miles on mine and I can say on the road it feels like a well built tractor with highway gears. Enjoy driving it everyday.
@@ElderStatesman-pi3lc I’d work out a deal with grenadier if I could lol. I’m just a mechanic though 😅
Throw an LS in this and offer it through John Deere dealers……and it could put a real dent in the truck market in the US and Canada.
I don’t have that many miles on mine, yet. I did a base build up with both the Smooth Pack (includes heated leather seats) and Rough Pack (3 locking diffs). I think you guys should have gone for the Smooth Pack and the ladder, and dumped the raised air intake. My dealer said the software that fixes the speed warning is out now, so I need to have that done. I’ll need to do a windshield protection layer (but that’s the same for Rubicon or Bronco, so no points off). Don’t really mind the steering and I’m getting used to the lack of an instrument cluster. Interior storage - that’s my biggest nit, other than the speed warning. But I’m so much happier driving this than a new Defender. I know it’s expensive- but so is everything else. If you got a Land Cruiser First Edition, and did a lift kit for comparable clearance and wheels, you would pay the same, especially for the “dealer convenience fee” to be one of the lucky few. And a Bronco Raptor or Rubicon 392, other than being kind of clownish, would cost WAY more. This is mid-range compared to Defender, which has a price spread from $62-$115. I just want to add one edit - think twice if you are using this as your daily driver in a city with intense traffic (LA, Atlanta, Boston) - visibility is NOT good and no blind spot monitoring. I wouldn’t want to sign up for that.
The original Land Rover had a center mounted speedometer mid level, you had to take your eyes off the road and look down, same as many cars of the time.
I’ve heard that the reason for the turning circle is the Kingpin knuckle. Apparently it is much more expensive, stronger, easier to maintain and far more durable. Almost all manufacturers have cut corners and stopped using kingpins. It really shows that the engineers genuinely were designing a truly capable off-roader.
Thanks Guys
I have one for almost 2k miles in it. I absolutely love it! It rides really well and built like a tank. The steering took a little to get used to, but after a few days now I don’t even think about it. I do agree that the overspeed warning is very annoying, but my dealer who is Curry Ineos in Connecticut said that they are going to come up with a fix for that.
The biggest complaint in RDH markets is the lack of space for your left foot due to the "lump" in the footwell. I've heard reviews call it a deal breaker.
Really - I don’t think so!
Last time roman took it offroad with kase they had problemes activating and deactivating the front and rear lockers , is it better now?
It's just a two- button press process. Hopefully they've read the manual by now.
Great video. Nice SUV but glad I went with my Bronco after seeing this!
I LIKE having a physical key and manually adjusting seats. Having those avoids a couple of unnecessary electronics that just slow the operation down. The one bit I will agree about is the speedometer. I don't know why they didn't put it in front of the driver, like it's supposed to be.
The correct pronunciation is Anus Granade, representative of the company's service and support structure.
You've had some issues with your Anus have you?
Granade? You mean grenade?
“It’s a real off roader, triple locked, no fake hood scoops!” If that wasn’t an obvious dig at Toyota.. and so far, in all the episodes about this Grenadier, it’s the same story “it’s a real truck!” -Much like a lot of the other comments, keep it for more than a year and let it prove that it’s got the quality and legs to really hang with the tried and truly tested Jeep Wranglers, 4Runners, Broncos, and Defenders. $80K+ is a lot to spend on “initial quality” & gimmicks. $.02
80k is a lot of cash but plenty of off-road options are. In my opinion it’s the only truck that’s actually worth the price.
Regular gas?? Great review and I love this car's look and functionality!
The speed alert thing is infuriating. It's mandatory on all new EU cars now. I imagine it won't be too long before the USA adopts something similar unfortunately.
I love how Roman complains that there are no heated seats when he specced the truck! Same with the Tacoma, they got the poverty spec and he complains about all the blank switches on the console.
I think his bigger point was at the price point it starts it should have more included. I would agree. There likely is a very short list of 80k vehicles without heated seats.
It’s funny, there’s actually a dealer already here in Tampa Bay. Run by Crown, which is a pretty big dealer group. With all the 392s, Bronco Raptors, and G wagens I see around here, I’m sure they’ll find a market
Which is funny considering there are very few places to wheel on the east coast due to the lack of public land.
I really like it. Just bought a Bronco and wanted the Ineos, but was worried about being such a new car and only one dealer available to sell them not close to me.
Tommy has an issue putting the rod in the hole 😂
And by the looks of it, he was trying to put it in the wrong hole. I wonder if Tommy has the same problem in the sack?
@@michaelwittmann2644 🤣
I’d like to see more on road driving tests.. where the vehicle will be 90% of the time. Is it a livable daily or too hard core?
It needs a 4.1 transfer case. Like the Rubicon so you don't have to use your brakes as much going down steep hill on a trail.
Dad would make a good automotive journalist. Amplifying the smallest issues out of all proportion 🤣
So much to like about this vehicle! A few things I wish were different: second row seats fold fully flat into the floor, 40/20/40 rear seats to hold long items
Another problem the second row seats is they don’t recline at all. Bad feature for those passengers in a long trip.
@@CJ-rk5eghuh, didn’t know that! Wish there was also a lower trim level with cloth seats and a few less features at a lower starting price point
@@woolengrapplerthe base trim is 71,9 and comes with cloth seats. But that one only has center locking diff. The “smooth pack” brings heated leather and “posh goodies,” the “rough pack” brings 3 locking diffs, and then you can accessorize till the cows come home. The Fieldmaster is the posh trim level bundle w leather, carpet and alloy wheels, the Trialmaster is the off-roady trim level bundle, but you can get all of those features or match how you like just by starting with the base and picking things individually. Both trim level bundles cost the same ($79+). There’s not really a price advantage to taking the bundled trims. The config TFL did is MOSTLY like the Trialmaster, but they didn’t really need the raised air, the contrast roof was probably a waste of money, Roman would have been happier with heated seats, and the lack of a ladder is completely baffling, given how high this thing is and the awesome load capacity of the roof. They just made some kind of strange choices.
Wow but this price 😊 thanks for this video😊
Love the steel wheels!
The Range Rover you traded in is superior to this IMO. Love your videos!
Thank God! These are solid front axle!!! The way God intended a truck to be
Hi, Tom I think your Dads moaning for TH-cam sake. The car is absolutely brilliant . I’ve just driven 300+ miles from my home in the midlands (UK) through are beautiful Peak District and on Uk to Richmond in the pennies and back .
The more you drive them the more you’ll love it . The steering lock issue , isn’t an issue , the steering on road issue, isn’t an issue . I owned and sold my G wagon for the grenadier and it’s a far better steering set up than the GW.
Seats are brilliant , and the cabin and view are perfect . The Speedo to just to my left (UK model) is a genius.i actually commented to my son earlier today that who would of thought that would work and be easier than looking down at a dashboard - brilliant 👍👏👏. Honestly the car feels so well built and it should do, Magna engineering and world class component partners . I see why they increased the vehicle price, it’s impossible to build the car for what is early adopters paid for our car .
I think next time Tommy should spec the car , he seems to understand the grenadier more.
I blown bc away how good mine performed this last 24 hours and didn’t want to get out of it . And wow 25.4 mpg (diesel) for where we went and what we did is far better than expected . My 2018 diesel G wagon never did more than 21 mpg . In summery and coming from a former G wagon owner I believe the grenadier is a far better built car for 70% of the money . And it’s a 5 year warranty . You guys seem to know Magna, try asking them if it’s the G wagon they designed for Merc to replace the W463!!!
I think we all agree the 2019 G wagon is not like its predecessor , but the grenadier is .
Well done Sir Jim for following your dream . Would love to see a 2 door smaller truck , like a Degender 90 size at sat £40000 starting price in the UK.
I wonder if they could keep the slow steering only in Offroad mode and set faster steering with better centering in regular mode. I don't know whether that could be easily done with mechanical steering, though.
Actually the steering wheel not returning was happening to me in 2007 Silverado truck, it has better radius then some others, but if i used it i would have to force the wheel back manually before it would start returning
I enjoyed the review. Just wait when death wobble develops as the thing gets older. And I'm surprised you haven't had to replace a windshield yet; it is ridiculously vertical. It will also be interesting as these vehicles age dealing with the almost complete lack of a dealer network. We'll see how long it takes to get parts
I’ve owned four solid front axle vehicles and none had death wobble. I don’t anticipate that to be an issue with this vehicle either.
Provided replacing the kingpin bearings is a straightforward job and parts are available, death wobble shouldn't be a make or break reason to decide not to buy the vehicle, any more than any other replaceable wear part wearing out - unless it shows up every 10 000 miles or something.
More than 20 years ago I owned an F250 and over 10 years I put 200,000 miles on it. No death wobble ever (at that point I didn’t know much about trucks and didn’t even know that wobble was an option). 😃
The speed warning must be region specific as in Oz the speed warning is for max speed and is adjustable and does not need to be reset . You ae also missing out on the BMW 3 litre in line 6 diesel version which has slightly less hp but an extra 100 nm of toque (550nm @ 1250 rpm v 450nm @ 1750) . All of the suff that you said that it does not have that the toyotas have is what I turn off in any late model car that I drive .
What a beast
cant help but think the Clicker for the speeding alarm could be found under the dash and just stick a screwdriver through the speaker (or remove it if its mechanical)...
this is a rich people's toy. so unique and just badass honestly. i can respect it
FYI, most recent update removes the speed limit beep. But yeah, not over the air.
i wonder if you dialed up some more caster angle if it would help force the steering back to center??
Put a lighter steering damper in and the issue is removed completely
I really like this vehicle. Just needs a little more refinement in the steering and overall electronics package. The price is a deal breaker and way outside what I could ever afford, but man if this thing became popular and had the support and price like a Jeep Rubicon I would jump on it.
When naming the countries that are involved in development and manufacture you might have forgotten Austria! Magna is an Austrian company and most of the technical development has been done by them.
Powered seats. Agreed. Heated seats. Agreed Prop rod for hood, use struts, silly. 40k cars have struts to hold a hood up. Costs zero dollars. Great video guys.
I have to admit this is very well thought out. If it turns out to be reliable for 10 year ownership, it might be worth the price.
Not many want to wait 10 years to find out. IF you can afford it, just get one in its second year and enjoy.
Edit: I would get one, but we're saving for a house and waiting for the market to cool off. I want the cash to be ready for that moment.
the main point of a snorkel intake is not go to deep in water but to get the intake up high away from the dust when driving down dirt and gravel roads
282 hp in a vehicle this heavy and expensive is wild. I can already see V8 swaps in this future for these
The power seems sufficient to me. LS swaps are almost guaranteed I think. Might even get better fuel mileage with a LS.
Or tune that BMW six and you'll get a decent increase in power. It's actually a strong motor so more boost shouldn't hurt it unless you go nuts
@MrTonaluv true, but the actual Defender has 395hp/405tq stock 3.0 turbo. Seems like they went the Toyota route and de-tuned it for reliability & gas mileage
It’s not about hp but torque and curve. Add to that ZF and you have more than enough for whatever you throw at it
@thebulgarianguy8461 332 lb ft is nothing special either. Like I said, the actual Defender has 405 lb ft.
My LR3 is almost 20 years old and has 300 hp with 315 lb ft tq.
I realize the Grenadier is not built for racing, but pretty pathetic power numbers for the price
The powertrain is awesome….they need to develop a “trucky” shifter 😂!
Getting Magna to help with development was a GREAT idea! Tons of “experienced” talent with the know how to make it last! And truly affordable compared to other off roaders.
Maneuverability?….. well my RAM suffers from the same Battleship turn radius.
I test drove. Not impressed at all. I've been fortunate, can buy whatever car I want. Id happily spend 200k on a custom ECD Defender over this. Good effort but really, was disappointing at any price point
Designed by Magna Steyr in Austria. They are building a lot of cars, mostly renown for Mercedes G Class
“It’s everything you need, and more … and nothing you don’t”
I believe the steering not centering isn’t so much about the ratio, so much as it is about caster angle. Unfortunately it means they didn't design enough caster angle into the vehicle. Not exactly a super simple fix, but could be fixed in future generations and the aftermarket could make a fix too
Awesome.
The warning panel concept is similar to the Boeing 737, (including the newer ones)…A warning panel draws your attention to a problem, that gets identified elsewhere on the aircraft…
What a 'stoopid' concept: Purpose Built, off road capable, repairable.....idgits!!! LMAO
I love the exposed screws! I love the no nonsense design. I love the old school "tired and true' tech throughout. Let's hope they make a smaller more affordable model in the future. And let's pray they're reliable!!
Love those steel wheels
Its a 90's land rover defender 110...lol.. of course everyone loves it. Not to mention all the ones on the lot that are sold are still sitting there...are they going to auction like the apple truck?
I noticed that in a couple of the videos, it seemed a bit awkward to get the lockers engaged and disengaged. Is that something that you worked out, or are you still finding it difficult?
I like the monochromatic UI. Infotainment systems should not be trying to take your attention away from the road.
Something that annoys me is the engine shut down for fuel economy/pollution reduction when you stop, that has to be turned off EVERY time you start the vehicle. Mind you, now MANY other manufacturers' vehicles have the same issue. Another is that we have to activate the cruise control every time you start the vehicle. AGAIN, this is something that is common with some other very popular manufacturers such as Toyota. We don't have the ADAS system on the Aussie vehicles, thankfully.
I have found the steering quickly became a zero issue. I do not notice it at all after a fairly short time driving the vehicle. Now I throw the vehicle around almost as wildly as I throw my VW Amarok. Turning circle could definitely be better. In early Suzukis, we would adjust the steering limit stop bolts to improve the turning circle. I noted this appears to be able to be done with the Grenadier also. No idea if it would be detrimental to the Cardan joints in the front differential. Adjusting the stop bolts didn't cause problems in the real world with the Suzukis, and I hear Land Rovers were the same.
I have never owned a vehicle with keyless start, but have driven some both at work and as hire vehicles. I see more risks with keyless start than advantages.
I had all the same complaints after I bought it but after a week of driving the steering is a non issue and is just second nature.
I drive a Ram 3500, I bet I would find the Grenadiers steering to be brilliant.
In my mind, the ultimate overlanding vehicle is the 4.5 liter diesel LC 78 Troopy. . .
The fricking nanny systems companies are incorporating into their new vehicles is a game changer.
I agree with Roman.
I would not look at this vehicle for that reason alone.
Magna found a badge for its vehicle. Magna has an electric vehicle concept too. I'm not sure Magna wants to be a vehicle company even though it could build its own vehicle.
Some negatives are a little petty... except heated seats. Winter+heated seats=divine.
What happens if cover the camera with tape? Does the speed limit thing stop? Also they should offer one with the bmw m4 engine.
I'd love to have one of these, kind of a boutique vehicle, maybe I'll wait on the used market. or go for the new Land Cruiser.
My two beefs - mpg is pathetic, and pricing is way too high.
This vehicle is made for those who don't really care about either I think?
Your beef is that you cannot afford it
I was locked in when they were projecting a $49k base but cancelled my reservation when that jumped to $72k+ without leather, without power seats, etc. I think that could be their downfall. The guys who WOULD buy it honestly can't or won't.
Lack of caster, caster gives you return to center but good luck getting a shop to set your caster at anything but factory tolerance.
This is probably the wrong place to ask this, but what happened to the GL? I havent seen that in a while
This reminds me of Jeremy Clarkson's Mitsuoka le seyde but with 4 wheel drive.
It’s a nice rig… hard to buy something first year that expensive. I feel like most orv owners buy and this is a rich buy on a first year unless the warranty and cs is amazing.
is that 17-18mpg calculated by hand or Grenadier trip computer?
Fuel capacity and range?
I am sorry. - you convinced me that I would hate driving the grenedier.
Wow, Tommy finally got the engine right this time 😂
Great video! Is always entertaining to see the father/son comedy.
You guys always complain about 4x4 Toyotas not having all those comfort and technology options. But this is a 80k + car. I get it triple lock and straight axles are great for offroad. But most people only used their off-roader on the weekends.
Seems like the perfect vehicle for off road tasks; it just isn't quite ready for normal daily duties that most of us need our car to be able to accomplish.
I think it's an awesome beast
Toot Toot-I had to laugh at that😉😂🤪.
I wonder if there is a fuse for the speed clicking thing?
The car you should be comparing that to exists in a newly facelifted form that looks very retro , the TOYOTA 76 SERIES STATION WAGON , where the split sized barndoors come from . Being an oldschool 4x4 Landcruiser , you will cry for your touchscreen toys and offroad programs , it has none of those but it is a triple lock , manual and manual 2h 4h 4l transfer case . If you dont know how to drive one of these , you will learn fast or be straight out to your nintendo toy .
Yes, snorkel needs to go, unless driving in Miami FL swamp 🙂
Yea I can see the over speed warning can get annoying. Just like the auto start-stop feature in most cars. Make it a routine to turn it off before you go 😂😂
Different enough to get attention, expensive enough to turn your nose up at others, and new enough to have the excuse at not knowing how to operate it. This is the perfect car for Roman.
“No parts shared with Land Rover”. Except they both use the ZF gearbox and some range rovers have German engines 😂. Good videos.
“Fake hood scoops”. As a 4Runner driver I took that personally…
The Wrangler has them too…(Except the 392)…
Actually there is one, single fake and dishonest design element. At the very top of the hood (should we all be saying “bonnet” now???), there are 2 fake hood vents. It’s embarrassing, really, especially on something with this much commitment to integrity. Those are the only 4 square inches of dishonesty on the whole thing, a badge of shame and humility to keep us from numbering ourselves among the Gods. 4Runner and Grenadier owners can alike carry this sorrowful burden - our mutual Lenten reflection as we enter Holy Week. Then we can all go make regrettable life choices in remote locations where we will probably die of exposure, confirming what our wives and girlfriends have known all along. Same emotional stunting, same fake hood venting/scoop shame, slightly different budgets, same outcome. In the words of the great Bob Marley, “one love.”
I disagree with Roman, cars with push button start are far to easy to steal. There is nothing convient about having to use a steering wheel lock.
Did you say it had wireless car play / Android? In Australia it's wired only
Yes in US it’s wireless
The snorkel is for getting the air intake out of the dust.
American 4x4 guys seem to have a hard time understanding the purpose of the snorkel. The first priority is as a clean air intake when driving in dusty conditions. When driving in dust, the air close to the ground has more dust particles that clog the air filter. The second priority of the snorkel is as a cold air intake. In a hot environment, the air close to the ground is warmer than the air at roof height. Then, the third priority of the snorkel is to keep water out of the engine when crossing a river. However, on the Grenadier, the snorkel (air intake) isn't waterproof because the diff breathers are mounted just above the water fording line. If the snorkel was waterproof, then someone would take it into deep water and get water in the differentials. For deep water crossing, you will need to lengthen the diff breathers and get a waterproof snorkel.
