- Reversing a round a corner is a driving test manoeuvre/maneuver that many find intimidating when first learning to drive and going to take the UK driving test. With this video I teach a few tips and tricks to make the process easier and make sure you feel more comfortable when it comes to actually taking the test!
Keep it slow, smooth and accurate and you'll do fine.
Keep in mind too this video is my opinion and you must use your own judgement too.

Hi Paynos - great video! And yes, to all drivers preparing for a road test - take your time and go slowly. Do NOT feel pressured and go fast because you are more likely to make mistakes when you're in a hurry. Take a breath, and do all the steps that Paynos indicated and then proceed. Smart Drive Test hi.i tried to do slowly but I felt my examiner was soo inpatient so I was pressured to do bit faster and then made mistake my wheels was so close to the kerb and that is serious fault. I'll do better next time

Had this manoeuvre first time last year on my driving test and passed! Came out a little to wide tho so got two minors for positioning, wish I had seen this video before I did my driving test aha might try it sometime to see if I can get better in the real world, brilliant video to learn from.

Once I passed my test I use my mirrors, Obviously doing checks but my instructor was completely nazi about me looking constantly over my shoulder out the back window only glancing at my mirror as a check.
He's correct
my dad was an instructors instructor (rac) he taurt me to watch the kirb through the back window,and when the line moves follow it, as a driver i dont need it any more that was 1989,but im surprised not to see it,,it helped alot,,ive taurt 7 to drive all 1st time passers.my biggest gripe,is no or too late signals at roundabouts,the idea is to tell others where you are going to go,not where youve gone,or still saying your going around.19 out of 20 getting it wrong,,why ?

thanks that was so helpful. i have my test in 2 weeks and super neevous. i do struggle with this one as at times it is quite difficult to judge if the corner is sharp or smooth. my instructor says put full lock for a sharp corner and one lock for smooth. i get there eventually but come in more as a parallel park eeekkk so nervous!

What if I'm driving a car that has a left side drive, like we have in Italy?

Do I need to use the indicators during this ?
why don't you use an indicater signal during the manouver?
How far do you turn steering wheel to begin with.?
I just did this and I found the left turn around the corner was easier then the right one. I don't use any gas just the clutch.
Whether you need to use throttle totally depends on the car you're in! Some big petrol engine or just diesel cars won't need any throttle, smaller engines/petrols will probably need a little.
This helps a lot because I have a new car and i'm not good with reversing

Good observation. Showing how you reverse steer and be safe. If you can do this you most certainly will about to reverse into a space.
Still doesn't say if it's a full turn or half turn etc

If the corner for the left reverse is tighter, will I need to put on full lock to go around?
Yeah absolutely it might not be full lock every time but the tighter the corner the more turn on the wheel you'll need :)

Definitely try to avoid hitting the kerb! It can be considered dangerous so avoid it :) You can retry the manouver too! Just make sure you communicate what you're going to do

my instructor always tells me to do full lock even if the corner is wide, she says even if it is wide to do a full lock. ive got my test in a few days =(. so confused and nervous

Saeeda Khan three quarters of a turn should be enough. then you can make little adjustments if need be. at least that's what my instructor has told me, and it helps. Full lock reversing into a parking space, and then when you pick up the lines of the parking space in your mirrors, start straightening up 😊
