If we use this method in actual situation such in supermarket parking area, someone behind us will have a chance to block or even take our chosen spot with his skillful technique.
Most drivers in my city, including me, use 45 degree aka diagonal method which is quicker and simpler.
In my car the steering point is when my wing mirror is in line with the third line. If your instructor tells you that you don't need to learn bay parking because it isn't done at your test centre insist on having at least a lesson on it because chances are wherever you are going you will have to bay park. I didn't learn it and had to teach myself and it has been holding me back.

There is another method called 45 degree which is quicker and simpler, it's the most frequently used by drivers in my city. I have never seen anyone in my city who uses the 3 line rule when doing bay parking.
Search in youtube so that you can learn it. I am quite sure, once you master the 45 degree, it will become your method of choice.
Being taught and passing with no minors in 2018 this is the perfect way to reverse bay park
yes please do ! I have my test on the 27th and my driving instructor is a pisstaker he knows I need more work with this type of things but he's so Blazey about it .
i have test tommorrow and my instructor same even though i told him i was very confident about test and that i been practicing non stop he just says "mmm could of done with more driving time" real confidence booster lol

The biggest problem with this is NO ONE should reverse into a bay from that starting position after passing their test. It's un-safe and makes the manoeuvre more difficult that it should be.
That being said, this is a very good explanation.
What do you mean?
Well reversing into a bay from a 90 degree angle is stupid. You NEVER see anyone doing this in real life. Aim the back of the car towards the bay first, makes much more sense and is a million times more easy. But for some reason you aren't allowed to do this on your test.
As far as I've been told you can do the 45 degree method on your test. there are a lot of myths repeated by instructors to make their students less confident so they have to do more lessons until they perfect their made up driving techniques. contrary to popular belief, if your examiner follows the rules you will not get minors let alone fail for using the 45 degree method, you will not get minors let alone fail for using hand over hand rather than shuffle steering and you will not be instantly failed for lightly touching a curb.
I think we need more people to speak up about this type of thing, the driving test and the path to it, is complete nonsense.
i always do the 45 degree method and tbh its easier for me personally

If anyone is going to do this method, I’d advise to also practice where possible in the car you’ll be driving once you’ve passed. You’ll find that using your shoulder to line up or whatever reference point your instructor teaches you won’t always work in your own car. It’s all down to how you have your seating position. In my last car, my reference point was my door handle. If I was to use my shoulder, I’d end up straddling 2 bays.

Observation is the key on the driving test for sure, it's a pain but you've gotta do it. Keep it going, you've got this :)

The problem in some test centre is that there is only three bay and then concrete path and they ask you to park in the middle or first bay. And some time examiner ask to you to stop at some point and then ask you to reverse park.
I go to work early in the morning super dark their lot is angled pull through I have trouble because it's so dark and the spaces are super narrow
Does the 3 line trick apply to small cars? I drive a '95 Suzuki Carry and I stuggle to park most of the times.

But if you have a longer or shorter car it is going to be more difficult to do this?
I'm told to pull up alongside the space I want. So let's say it's on the right. I will pull along side it then full lock to the left moving off slowly. Once I have done this I move straight forward a little and u should see the parking space behind me. Full lock to the right and reverse making small adjustments if needed. As you reverse it will be very clear where your parking space is behind you. I've only did it 3-4 times but it's so much easier than the other way and way less likely for someone to just come along and steal your space.

Dear Paynos, was wondering if you can help me with the whole 3rd line thing, i just don't get it! my test in a few weeks I've watched numerous videos and I'm still struggling. Any advice?
A very simple explanation is that you choose the space you want and then you have to drive forwards by three parking space lines and stop at the third. You then drive backwards very slow and immediately steer into the space whilst looking in your mirrors and checking around you. You'll start to end up backwards into the space and you can adjust it from there! :)
This manoeuvre is only on the test if there are bay parking spaces big enough at the centre, which only a few actually have! This is also something you'll get better at with practice and time so keep at it! Good luck :)

ive just bought one of these (sort of its a 1.4 85bhp sport) what mods would you recommend (i want to go full chav with it) im trying to find a less restrictive air filter
I've got the 1.4 99hp edition, loved driving it! If you want to go full chav and have the money for it you could get a good set of coilovers, exhaust system (whether it's backbox or full system) new rims (perhaps Enkei or Rota) and a front splitter kit.
Just my opinion for some of the things you could do! :)

Apparently it's at least a different ECU, intake and throttle bodies. Might be a different cam profile or something too but not too sure from what I can find. It's not much in it anyway!

Are you meant to see the lines in the side mirrors?
You won't be able to see the lines in most cars unless you tilt them down first, but there's no problem learning it without being able to see them in the mirrors :)
