I did bit it didn't capture correctly. To be honest if you browse through vcds you'll find it easily enough. Only a few settings. I'll see if I can do it again soon
Lol. Well for me it was £200 vs £600 to 700 pounds professional install. Realistically you can get it done in a day. Took me 3 days. 2 days for tow. 1 day for electrics but only because im filming it. Camera angles etc. I couldnt find any videos that covered the whole thing start to finish. Glad your liked though. Not difficult just time consuming.
Hi there, great video. Has inspired me to do it myself. I have an Audi A5 convertible 10 plate 3.0 tdi. Not sure what electric to order? Want 13 pin but not sure if I need generic or more expensive type. How do I find out???
I personally prefer the ecs or similar electric kits. Yes its more but it intregrates with the car properly. Ie shows on the screen and disables rear sensors. Use vcds to.do the coding. I was going generic to start with but by the time i added it up cost of materials and time to work it out wasnt worth it.
@@jeffgrenfell8087 for me it was 200 quid for the towbar and 100 quid for electrics kit. It was 700 professionally installed. Can easily do it in a day. Took me 2 days but I'm constantly faffing with cameras. Outtakes. People talking to me. Hey you doing a youtube video kinda thing.
@@richsmif paid s little more but it's arriving today. Bank holiday weekend sorted. Not sure I'll video it but will highlight any differences with the job via vid or photo and let you know how it goes. Thanks again.
Hi Richard. Got towbar from pf Jones eventually. Moving arm for pin connector a little different but looks same generally. Before I start any advice on what cable and software I need to buy to recode after fitting. Thanks in advance.
My channel is abit of mixed bag of material but i make videos in the way i want to watch others. Glad you enjoyed. Comments like this that make me continue. Thanks for your time
Im building a summerhouse at moment and thats been filmed and explained in same way. Bricks electrics the works. Thats why im quiet at moment. Massive project. Prob be a 10 parter but will be uploaded in 1 go.
@@richsmif ah man, that sucks. sorry to hear. I found a guy 2 cities over who does VCDS coding. as soon as I fit the towbar to my Q2 I will take a trip to see him.
Hi Richard, Does there gonna be a third part showing how to code the trailer module like u sad in you video? I have a ecs electronis cable kit installed on my new octavia 4 and i'm not able to learn the module into the (19)can-gateway, i think there is a longcoding fault in the trailer module. VCDS always says: coding rejected error 31: Request out of range (it says that since the beginning, i never changed sommething about the longcode) but the code i see is 00000002200 and i think thats not correct. (I can go to (69)trailer and go into the module but i cannot add the module to the installation list in (19) can-gateway, i use the latest version of VCDS software where in (19) can-gateway the save button is changed to assisted coding: write coding, restore original value and direct coding: write direct coding (thats a code u need to fill in manualy. All the 3 buttons gave the same error. An example would be nice. Thank u very much. With friendly greetings
Hi Richard, thanks for the video.Very informative. I know what the can bus cables do, and the pair going to the fusebox (F3 and F4 for my Q5 2016) supply the power but what does the single red/black cable going into the grey connector do? I ask because when I look inside the loom there are 2 x 0.5mm red/black cables and 1 x 1.0mm black/red cable to choose from? Unsure what one to pick , can you help?
I only had 1 black red cable but mine a5. If it was me id look for the pin description and trace it back to see what it does. But I suspect its the thicker cable. I also suspect its the reverse light trigger but cant be sure without digging out the ecs instructions as you have different wiring and different instructions. Maybe someone elsr with a Q5 could answer?
Hi, I have a towing module similar to the one installed by you, the colors of the wires are different, if I send you a picture with the module you can help me, thank you
Gran trabajo, yo acabo de codificar el mio y hay un error en VCDS que no logro quitar, ese el modulo 01 del motor. No se si esta relacionado con la necesidad de que hay que ampliar el sistema de refrigeracion.
Richard thanks for taking the time to document the install great job that I know will be of value to me when I install my bar and electrics.
Can you show how to do a electrical fir to a bmw f11
As a audi man. No. ;-)
Hi Richard
excellent video, very informative
where is the part 3 about coding with vcds?
Great videos thanks! Did you ever make the video of using vcds ? Cheers josh

Nice video! from which year is the car?
Very well done. What an undertaking. You’ve put me off fitting a tow bar. Loved the videos though.

Thanks Richard. I'm going to order one today with a vehicle specific kit for 13pin. Will save myself a few quid hopefully with video help.

Will you be uploading the new VCDS- video? I would be very gratefull if you did :)
i lost the footage from vcds but wasnt difficult to do. screen capture went haywire and ruined it

Weird. I don't have any plug to connect trailer lights module to. Audi A4 quattro 2006 or 2007. Installed towball mount but no wiring:(
You have to splice it like i did. I didnt have a connector either

Unless its ecs they could mean something completely different. You need to find the wiring diagram
