Great video, I envy the power of VCDS, though I'd love to see a similar video to this done on the R32 as well. As much as this is a fantastic ad for VCDS, I am not sure it's that much of an upgrade over ODBeleven for those of us with older systems, so it would be nice to see an example of that.
There are very few videos like this that show everything you did. Most all videos are single little functions. I would love to see more about the measuring blocks and output testing. I’ve never used the graph function but now I know how. Thank you.
Videos like this are great, as the vcds experts on various pages look down on newcomers like we're nothing as we don't know as much, but they was in our position once! 🤷♂️

This is SO PERFECT because now I can take the elementary knowledge & apply it to your more advanced/ thorough videos on VCDS.🤓🎉😃 YAY!!! Very nice Charles. I would add that Ross-Tech has a very good customer support network. Once you register your cable you can participate in the forums and questions are usually addressed in a reasonable time frame.
I did it. I paid my dues and just ordered a RossTech VCDS. Now I’m here to learn what I can. I found the 2016 Passat that I leased brand new, for sale, and I bought it. I was so upset that I had to adult and turn this car back in. We couldn’t afford two payments and needed something bigger for the family so we leased a ‘19 Atlas. So I got my baby back and she needs some TLC. I’m sure that my wife’s ‘14 Jetta is going to be happy about it as well. Thanks for the video brother!
VCDS is awesome. It almost uses itself because it's so intuitive. And the Ross tech wikis are excellent. This tool helps sort out the convoluted cluster f that is vw diagnostics.
I got my Ross Tech rVCDS in 2011 for my JSW TDI. I have used it many times. It may sit for a year but then I use it. Priceless!!! It paid for itself many times over.
hand brake on keeps daytime running lights off on certain countries also. I did the change to the throttle linear over time mod on a TDI.. 100% improvement. The Ross-Tech forum is handy as well. and the tech support is the best.
I have just purchased the official Ross-Tech cable and have basic knowledge of how to use it having learned most of what this video covers from a friend who also has the cable and VCDS software but I’d love to see a more advanced video explaining VCDS toolbox for example… All I’ve done so far is a full backup like you showed in your other video and reactivated the seatbelt warning which worked perfectly!
Dude I’ve had my unlimited Vin vcds cable for like 3yrs and haven’t used it yet because I know I wouldn’t have a clue as to what I am doing. Please make more tutorials on VCDS! Thanks man you rock!
Great info. I picked up a VCDS hex can cable back in 2008 or so and it still functions great. I worked late on a 2016 Touareg last night with a interior light issue and the VCDS helped out a bunch. Unfortunately the factory SI is lacking for the j519 module.
CAR DOSE The VCDS HexCan cable is no longer available I believe. Those of us that have it (myself included) are very grateful to own one. Ross Tech (VCDS) now sell other versions.
More vcds vids plz! I am in the middle of purchasing my first VW- 2009 Touareg R50 - and I am trying to learn all I can on diy maintenance to save some cash.
Excellent video Charles! Would love to see more like this, in particular: 1) how to check for chain wear/stretch, 2) are their values to monitor which indicate carbon cleaning may be needed, 3) a series on frequently used sections of VCDS for troubleshooting common mk6 GTI problems. Last but not least, I'm a bit surprised that you recommend a battery tender for the battery. I'd think that the vast majority of things VCDS does would be extremely low current draw, when compared to (for example) starting the car (which is a massive drain on the battery).
I would definitely like to see more VCDS videos. I just bought my controller and there's a lot to learn. Your channel has been the best for teaching that's for sure. Thank you
Thanks for this video, please keep them coming, I do have this scanner but I don't know how to use it very well, for example, in minute 18:19 there is a screen for Service Reminder Interval, it shows a value on row 4 on oil quality of poor oil quality, and even when I just change the oil it is still the same. So is the car actually checking the oil quality with a sensor or is that just more like a counter, for example, after so meany miles after the service it will say poor oil quality. Even when I enter the value for the next service it still reads poor oil quality. And another question is who do I now the correct values that it should read, in what publicly available manual can I found the baseline values?. Thanks Charles! congratulations on all your videos!

Charles, as always, very interesting and educational videos that you share with us. Can't thank you enough. Please, please continue your tutorials on the VCDS . I 'm still a newbie with this tool and it is awesome for someone like me. Mine is an older Ross-Tech interface (KII-USB) and I use it on my 2002 Passat. We now own a 2018 Tiguan and I am wondering if I can use this older Ross-Tech (updated to 19.6.2) interface with the newer Volkswagen to diagnose problems with the same ease as I am now able to do with the Passat. If it would not do an adequate job with the newer VWs and I upgrade my interface, which one would be your choice that would do the job on both vehicles? May I suggest the following if you have time to make these tutorials: how to change the day driving lights from always on to off, how to diagnose bad engine sensors that commonly malfunction, what graphing functions in VCDS are most useful to the DIYer. Thank you.

I've been trying to find out reasoning between OBD11 and VCDS on which one to buy. As soon as you hit the Graphing portion of this tutorial I completely understood why people praise it. On top of all the logging, I think my purchase is well warranted. Thanks for the video!

Vcds is so powerful and easy! I went to buy b5 audi. It had a fault code from immobilizer, car started for 1second and shut of. 5 mins googling and a first timer (me) got the car running for good with vcds!
Super useful, thanks for this and keep them coming, been using vcds for 6 years but just basic stuff, and as you said I learnt some new stuff. Just on the SRi reset, if Ur car is UDS you will have to use adaptations in the instrument cluster module to reset the oil and inspection intervals, bit of a pain until you get used to it.
Love this video and your channel so much! Just purchased a 2010 Gti Tsi with all of the typical issues already delt with; timing chain, pcv, water pump, etc., and was interested in getting the enthusiast vcds to stay on top of my tsi and keep her as minst condition as I can for a long time. My 08 rabbit as well.
I bought the Hex NET unit and for like 2-5 VINs. I use it so rarely that when I need to use it, I'm almost lost again. Grr. Getting old. Would be easier if I used it more often. Thanks for the video man! I'll be refering to it a bit more, I'm sure.
Dude! This is super extensive. Way above my head. Can you check things like the the PCV regulator without having to remove supercharger, to find out if bad. Would be nice. I am getting a DTC.
Thanks for the Video, solidified my decision to buy a Ross-Tech today. I have been rolling it around in my head for a while until I was stymied on two VW's in the last month. I have been able to do quite a bit of diagnosis and repair with my Snap-on Zues, Autel Maxis and Launch but there always seems to be a function I need missing in an adaptation or coding calibration. Nothing more disappointing to see a full function menu but be kicked out with a generic message like "access denied" or dubious "conditions not met" . I am hoping this helps out with an occupant detection module calibration I am struggling with right now that will not complete after installing a new pad. I am getting an error for calibration not complete no matter what angle of attack I take with the Autel Maxisys full function menu.... On that note, do you have any videos on Security access codes for modules? That would be super helpful!
Aweome, thanks for the video. I ordered a VCDS today, and am hoping to enable remote window operation on my '17 VW CC. Holding down fob button does nothing, but I've read it's supposed to, if enabled. Also hoping I don't inadvertendly enter some functionality of a bit controlling the engine or other major component, haha.
This is most helpful. I have watched it a few times and each time I get a little more. I am new to VCDS. I need to know how to find out what is wrong with my ESP on my 2011 GTI. I have swapped the G419 sensors and the ABS module but the codes 11164 and 01423 come back at the first corner with any G forces. The traction control can be turned on and off until those codes come back. Any help there in diagnosis would be appreciated.
I have a VCDS. 2019 VW atlas SE w/ technology and saw the video on start stop and will do that. But am interested in changing the all windows down and up to the remote key if possible.
Hello, I really enjoy your VCDS tutorial. I REALLY needed the training. One question. I have a 2011 Audi A6 Quattro 3.0t supercharge and I removed my battery for a couple of days to work on some other items in my car. I placed the battery on slow charge so it could maintain its correct charge, but when I installed it back into the car, I got a check engine light, it took several attempts to finally get my key recognized, the TPMS light came one, red oil sensor light, etc. I used my VCDS to auto scan the car and I had red codes on almost every address. Can I use the VCDS to reboot my computer or do I just need to disconnect & reconnect the battery. I'm really at a loss on this.
This video is brilliant. Thank-you very much for sharing. I know its a little old now, but still a really great overview for a novice trying to get to grips with VCDS.
GREAT VIDEO BROTHER!!! PLEASE keep the VCDS videos coming. I've had it a few years now but only do novice things with it. Definitely need to learn more. Love your presentation!
Hi great video I already fixed few problems on my Audi. I have a question about headlight. I had to replace one matrix headlight I put original module back, lights are working but the new light doesn’t move up and down. Can I fix that problem with my vcds??
Thank you. Recently i bought vcds 23.ver. But there is nothing videos about it. I know that it is not really different. But in the module detail menu and how to coding is different. So i cant find how to coding exactly. Here is thing should i find and download older version like you explain how to use it? Or what should it do ? First of all i wanna do coding needle sweep on ignition on. Please give me some advice.

Hi, great video! I have a 2023 Seat Arona FR. Do you know how easy it is to identify an airbag issue with this software and device? Thanks in advance!

Vcds is so powerful and easy! I went to buy b5 audi. It had a fault code from immobilizer, car started for 1second and shut of. 5 mins googling and a first timer (me) got the car running for good with vcds!
I found you video for good and informative. Having never used vcds before it take a little time to know how to use it and this is a big help thanks
Thank you. Also have a Ross-Tech without the restriction. Keep those vids coming please.
Just got an Audi TT and this was so helpful. Thank you!!
One of the best youtube tutorials I have watched. Thank-you and please continue with more.
Thank you
Have vcds, learned a ton of stuff from this video. Many thanks!
Awesome.
Suuuuuuuper helpful! Im starting to play around with my fsi b6 passat, 2006, she's so much fun to drive, I'm trying to learn everything I can to keep her going. I used to build robots competitively and did well back then, so this is different, but much the same. Thanks again, will be looking for the next video!
Class i structor before I graduated taught us about separate Oscillioscopes. Do you ever use those? Do most mechanics use though, these days, anymore?
Scopes are GREAT! I am far from an expert on the scope. Trying to learn more
@@HumbleMechanic Verry cool. Me, too.
Please break down measuring blocks and the values, what they tell us about our cars if it's way out what it means, mainly engines and gearbox.
Great video! I am looking forward to more advanced VCDS tutorials. I sure enjoy your channel👍👍
Hi, great video! I have a 2023 Seat Arona FR. Do you know how easy it is to identify an airbag issue with this software and device? Or, in the worst case, is it possible to disable the affected airbag and get rid of the airbag light? I assume that this should be done in the coding option, under Advanced Settings, right? Thanks in advance!
hi great video just wondering decifer why some videos are saying they nee the pin code to the immobiliser and this one doesnt rather not mess around with immobiliser anyway
Would love to see more of these how to's with the VCDS. I haven't found any other great resources for learning this tool :)
Great job, thank you and would love to see more videos about VCDS
Really great, you're right Charles, you always find out something you didn't know with these videos. Great job, keep 'em coming!!!
Clear and concise, well put together thanks ❤
Really like all your videos but VCDS videos where really interesting
this is an excellent video, wish i had seen this when i was in vcds for my audi. great information
Very very good video to watch.
I would like to ask something as I do have issue with my vw sharan 2014 and I can not delete the codes after installing the new one. Is there any help please?? I have few pictures with fault code but not sure how to attach here. Any help please? Thanks
thats great. how about a list of tweaks using the vcds one might do, and demonstrating their effects. any weblinks providing a catalog of vcds tweaks?
Hi. First of all, thanks for your tutorials. I'm a newbie, and I just started to learn the vcds system. Dou you know a way, to improve my sound system with vcds? I have an Audi A4 B8 2012 Avant. The sound is really bad. SOmeone told me, there is a way, to unlock the limitation of the bass, on the front speakers. Any idea? Cheers, Tibor
Awesome video, just learning this program. Is there a trick to understanding the codes it spits out when it does? Using this on a 01 Audi A4. My first German car as well as my first turbo.
I like how all the OEM tools basically look like they were originally developed for the commodore 64. Any tips on the P2202 NOx Sensor Circuit Low (Bank 1 Sensor 1) code on a 04 golf mkv 1,6 FSI. Not sure you have that exact model in the US but seems a pretty common fault.
Vcds is the best do more videos. i learn a lot
Could you, please, tell me how to adapt / calibrate the newly replaced fuel pressure regulator (that on the ramp). Thank you!
it would be amazing if you did more videos, just got an Audi and im super interested in learning more
Hey HM! DEFINITELY do more VCDS stuff!! Awesome!! Thanx!
Especially if you can get hold of CRD VAG diesels!!
Hello! such a nice video! I have VW Golf MK5, I have a golf mk5, which one do you recommend to buy to scan my car: HEX-V2 or HEX-CAM? i hope u can help me out. regards
