I went for the factory fitted one as well on my A4, I just didn't want some fitter hacking my car to bits to put on one later. I'll have to stick up a video of it, its great to see one working before you decide to go for a factory one or one later on. Very well demonstrated Paul. Beautiful car as well mate.

Great video! It's basically the same on the C6 models. Only difference is that the there is a knob to turn instead of pull and the electric connector is beside the towbar.
That's pretty cool indeed. Most VAG dealers are useless with the towbar stuff and give misleading information. And they never seem to want to let you at least spec tow bar prep so the wiring from the fuse box/ brain is already run to the back of the car. Then at least down the line if you are a confident diyer you can fit it all yourself.

Hey, when I pull the hook it doesn’t loosen up, and the light doesn’t blink red, it’s always green, what could be the problem? I don’t know if it was used much, but it’s kinda rusted perhaps spraying some WD40 would help ?
I’m certainly no expert, and I sold the car in 2016, but that ought to work. I’ve used WD40 to free up a rusty motorbike side stands just this week and it worked great.

I can't see whether this is the extended one or not. More importantly, whether it would be easy to fit an extended neck version and still retain all the functionality of the tow bar.
Nothing. I ordered the car new and was very clear when I ordered it (including in an email) that I had read on forums that it might not work with my fridge and it needed to. The salesman was confident that it would be to UK spec but said that 'we would cross that bridge if we needed to' - which we did, so there was no extra cost to me. It had to be done at a specialised tow bar fitters, as opposed to by Audi themselves, so it definitely cost them.

Hi Paul, great video. I have this on my VW Passat and it's great, there is a little switch in the boot which does the same as your kit, ironically the Passat one looks far more integrated as it's a proper switch in the boot, but there you go. Moving on I now have an A6 C7 Allroad and I was looking to get this retrofitted. I know it is a long shot but if you still have your A6 can see any brand information on the towbar itself. I have been told it is likely to be Bosal but would love to know for sure?

I can't recall which pins were empty when actually looking at the electrics but it was the feed that supplied a live power supply while the car was running, meaning a caravaner would need it to power their fridge when towing. I think it was pin 9 or 10? You wouldn't notice it's absence when towing a trailer. Hope that helps.

I was looking at a used, dealership Q5. It said it comes with 'towbar preparation'. Anyone any idea what this means? Is it THIS towbar or is it some pre-cursor stage?
I have installed "after-market" receiver hitches on two Q5's that I have owned: a 2009 and a 2015. The addition was identical for each of the Q5's. What I take 'towbar preparation' to mean is that there are attachment points underneath the vehicle which can be bolted to a receiver hitch--- in my case I bought a Curt hitch (they make one for an Audi Q5)and had it installed at a U-Haul dealership. I should add that I did not do the wiring since I was only going to use the hitch for a bike carrier and am not planning on using it for towing.
Have you tried towing a trailer on it. I am planning on buying a trailer but not sure what size should i go for. 8x6x5 or 10x6x4 will be too much weight
No idea, I’m afraid. I would suggest asking at your local dealership and I imagine they will either quote or point you in the right direction. Hope you find what you need.

Nothing. I ordered the car new and was very clear when I ordered it (including in an email) that I had read on forums that it might not work with my fridge and it needed to. It is an Audi factory fit towbar. I can't remember which fitter the dealer used to update the electrics to power my fridge, I'm afraid.

Precursor, I'm afraid. It means the electrics are in place, ready for an installation, but nothing more.

Tariq Farooq You would have no problem with either of those trailer weights. I used it tow a caravan that weighed 1500 kg with no issues whatsoever
