You have made valid points regarding the use of all the functions. Which the N series has, but it was stated during the drag race that the NGB function only works for 10 seconds. While I agree that an ev could be the way of the future, I don't believe the tech has evolved enough. With the utilization of hybrid technology, it would give eve developers more time to perfect it. When the steam engine was nearing its end of life, it was getting mileage of 100 mpg. ICE has the potential to be reliable and honestly safer (automive fires in ICE vs. EV). This test was purely based on performance as that is the direction that Donut has always taken. No, I'm not bashing you. I just wanted a healthy discussion.
@Instantur absolutely. Take into consideration that we need to work on efficiency first. Several companies that make super cars have produced good examples. It we work towards efficiency first and then performance, the platform for performance can and will grow.

I don’t believe the 5N would have lost to the Mustang if correctly set. They didn’t specify if it was set for hot laps. Should have been set to track mode in sprint settings for such a short track. Also around a long track like the Nurburgring, the Dark Horse will not best the 5N because of its heating issues and less power.
My thinking entirely, don’t just say you’re fiddling with the settings show the settings. It’s literally tuning the car and it makes a world of difference. Is it in endurance lap mode or is it still in drift mode so they can do the donuts? Who knows.
I drive a Hyundai Ioniq 5, it's fantastic. Very fun, sporty drive, great range, roomy for someone over 6', and massive cargo space- roughly 76" from back of driver to trunk (you can fit a single size mattress in it)

If it didn't simulate a 8 speed or make funny sounds or let you customize things the way they let you people would complain, you just can't win. I'd take N over the dark horse any day, faster and a better daily driver.
@Sakosaga it was the same on top gear when the first hyundai N came out. It beat the golf gti round the track for half the price and they said omg it's great to drive, and so fast, but they'd take the golf cause of the badge.
As a prior owner of 3 Mustangs and currently have a 2019 mustang and Fiesta ST in the garage and not a single EV car, I'm so utterly sick and tired of the EV bashing for the sake of it. Just get over it already, we're car guys not tribalistic morons and I know damn well that Hyundai would have destroyed the mustang on the track if the driver wanted it to, it's also pretty clear it did a far better job holding a drift as well, which is what the drift mode is for, not donuts. The whole video is honestly an embarrassment.

They weren’t drifting. They were doing donuts. I mean a mustang doesn’t have any of those modes either so I don’t know what the fuck you’re fucking complaining about.
I'd take gas over electric any day but it was obvious that the mustang was going to win regardless of how the 3 events went. Mustang loses the drag race but gets a second chance, mustang lost the lap time but got a second chance. They admitted the Hyundai did donuts as well as the mustang and the were laughing their asses off the whole time, but the Mustang won. If you are going to do comparison tests you need to have an open mind and not decide what the result is going to be ahead of time
Just a couple comments, since I've had the electrified GV70 for over a year. In my car there are paddles for more or less regen, and it feels like upshifting/downshifting. I love it. Also, the "boost" does only last 10 seconds but you can just press it again. Lastly, if the Hyundai was at 100% instead of 68% for the drag race, it would have been even more of a bloodbath.
@3:02 - "Except for the Ionic N. It just adds a second motor." WRONG! It replaces both motors from the regular dual motor with more powerful ones! How can Donut get something so simple so wrong? (To be clear, the 225hp rear motor used in the base EV6/I5-6 RWD and also used in the rear for the standard AWD dual motor goes to the *front* for the N and a more power [~400hp] rear motor is added to the rear of the N. It's those regular dual motor trims that "just adds a second [95HP] motor" to the front.)
I feel like they also didn’t talk about the different modes and what not. Like drift, mode lap mode, or idk drag mode. I mean obviously they are bias towards ICE vehicles but still, could’ve at least talked about the car more. Or that you can pre cool the battery to get max performance.

@@dnegel9546 i mostly agree with that philosophy but at the same time, tires make a disgusting amount of difference on track, probably more than almost anything else. plus you should change the brake fluid for both anyway, not that that's really a modification
If you're going to keep dismissing EVs, then why did you make this video? And you're saying the Ioniq 5N lost to that poorly-engineered Mustang on the track? Only a fool would believe that result. This video starts with bias and arrogance and ends with manipulation and distortion.
In general, the electric car is the one that has the problem of heat. Internal combustion engines are much stronger than electric cars in terms of heat. The fact that the Mustang went into limp mode due to heat problems on this short track means that it cannot enjoy the circuit freely. On the other hand, the 5N can drive 60 km hard without any battery or brake overheating problems.
So Ford has been building the Mustang for about 60 years. The mustang is known as a performance car, so you think that would be priority, yet on a hot lap it's cutting power for overheating? I know he was running the AC on one of the laps, but even with it off it was still having some problems. The first performance EV that Hyundai makes and it's been praised up and down by tons of reviewers. Never spoken of any issue really, and certainly not related to overheating. People will still hate on Hyundai and/or prefer and ICE car for various reasons, but you have to hand it to Hyundai. They did an amazing job on this car; and it just happens to be an EV 👏🏻
My best friend owns a dark horse. I prefer camaro. He has done 20 back to back laps at road America flat out without overheating. In 89° heat. Sometimes, the script is written to make something look better or worse. Looking at you old top gear with the original tesla. WHY would a California company want ev s to look better than a v8 sports car?? 🤔 maybe the same reason their top 3 hosts left. They want to make fun videos, not pushing paid sponsors smoke up our butts.
It actually does 2 fast, 1 bit slower and if you push it, a fourth lap, not as fast but still a lot quicker then most cars. If that does not sound like a lot, realise that most stock gasoline cars, even the sporty ones, get overheating and brake overheating issues by the end of the first or into the second lap. Endurance race cars are a completely different breed and not comparable to any gas car you buy in a showroom...
Why is that sad? That's literally always been an inherent weakness of ICE cars, where a significant portion of the energy from combustion of gasoline is converted to heat. That is wasted energy, as you want to convert as much energy as possible into mechanical energy. Not only is it inefficient, it also creates another problem: how to get rid of heat.
You must be new to cars. Probably doesn't own a car or just started driving. They're in the desert during the summer in California where it reaches 100+ degrees and 120+ degrees track temp. I was at the drag strip, 88 degrees, and track temp was 110 degrees. Even super cars will overheat in those temps. You people sit around waiting for something to complain about. You act like Plaids never overheated their batteries on the track at these temps. You EV fanboys are going to find out the hard way when your EV doesn't work when it's single digits with a real feel in the negatives. Good luck even getting 100miles to a charge if it does.
@@jovand6606 So explain to us why EVs have the lowest reliability score out of all the cars? They average 240 problems per 100 cars. I believe the average ICE only has 170 pph according the JD Powers.
So having never seeing anything from this channel I can now assume after watching this video, that these guys don't like electric cars at all. Even the way they did that hot lap seems pretty suspect.

I'm not sure where in that you saw that I thought they couldn't have an opinion. The comment was my opinion. Out of curiosity, why don't you like EV's?
I feel like somewhere there is a 25ish minute edit of this video that got chopped down at the last minute. You have a weird edit showing a counter of playing with settings, but they never talk about it. They have Steph in the car for a big chunk, but never introduce her or anything. Also talk about big vibes of "ICE cars good EV bad" coming off of this one.
Hyundai is seriously shaking up the design of their new cars, really leaning into retro-futurism 80s vibes. I'm not a huge fan of EV's myself, but I think they have a place and they should be more common. I will love ICE configurations until the day I die, but I understand their impact on the world around us, so some day they'll probably just be a hobbyist thing, and that's okay. We the millennial folk are used to the ICE configs, we grew up with them, we watched them change, and now there's a new generation of drivers getting on to the roads and EVs are slowly becoming the better choice all around. Unless we find an alternative fuel source that is readily abundant, efficient, and not nearly as pollutant as gasoline the ICE is going away. "I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too"
One car will be working in 20 years and has enough aftermarket support to keep it going well beyond that... and the other will be lucky if its still on the road in 10 years given current EV trends.
For years, "car people" were always about pure performance. Now that EV's out perform most vehicles, they all just fall back on "well it's still an EV". I don't get all the hate
It’s boring and this boringness endangers our good old ICE Cars. So it’s good performance but not interesting. I personally have an EV and it’s good acceleration but boring as fuck. Such cars just can’t replace an ICE car
The N cars are a good value. The downfall is that even the dealers do not really understand them. When I pull my Kona N in for service they think it is a N-Line and I have to check to make sure they do the service properly because of different engine, transmission, tires, interior, shocks, frame, etc.
You likely would have done better in the Inoiq 5 N with all the fake stuff on. The sound and the shifting, which is why I think they added those features, to give you more intuitive track feeling. But we all know that at the track weight is going to be the biggest penalty in the turns.
@LevyHappyClapper as a Hyundai salesmen They literally tell us this in our training fun fact the N logo itself is actually one of the corners of the track! A simple Google search would make you wanna remove that comment.
@@LevyHappyClapper The cars are tested in the Nurburgring as the final write-off for production. The 5n can do 2 full laps without overheating which is insane for any production EV.
@NoOneKnown512 he's right. The 5N comes with a drive mode called "Endurance" which is meant for the car to level power and increase battery pack airflow with the adaptive grill shutters so that they indeed last longer around the track!
Mustang with the windows down and the heat on, the IONIC EV with windows up and air conditioning running. The Mustang is unintentionally a bigger gimmick than the EV with its designed gimmicks.
For me the Ioniq is the best looking EV car so for. I think it's still about the way you deal with the design of the grill/front of the car and Hyundai did a great job on this design.
I could not stand watching European reviews of American cars becuz they would just pump up non-factors in their favor and always threw in the “of course it’s American” for every flaw, blatantly biased, now Americans are doing the same against EV’s, sad. The Mustang wins the “donut contes” … < what? Mustang wins in track battle … good that’s what it is designed to do, and sadly it over heated, had problems, you “forgot to time it”, etc. but it was faster (thank god). The EV is a smooth daily driver that you can charge at home, crush practically anything light to light, and isn’t horrible on a track and didn’t have any of the problems the Mustang did. That’s the real story, daily driver that your g-ma can drive and the g-son can run at the strip. Hate on EV’s all you want but that’s pretty incredible for any car to pull off
@Donut the 5N being an EV isn't a negative, it's a demonstration the future can still be fun without the inefficiency and pollution. And for all your critique of the 5N being "heavy" you failed to criticize the Mustang for only being 800lbs lighter. A 4000lb "sports car" strikes me as a far more egregious pig of a vehicle since a full-size pickup can be bought new from the same manufacturer weighing less.
yeah and they did a shitty lap in the N and did not bother to run again but the Mustang got a second lap after it overheated... People has done 3 laps I believe or more on the Nurburgring this summer in this thing and it can get pretty toasty in southern Germany as well, no idea how hot it was here tho... So much of the shit about EV's out there is just disinformation and these people just buy it... because they want EV's to fail so they can go back to sleeping with their V8's... People say EV's burn all the time... we had a Volvo catching fire on the road while a guy was driving it here today! Was not an EV... xD Luckily none got hurt.
It’s crazy how far EV’s have come. In less than 5 years they now have “performance” versions which aren’t bad. I for one like what Hyundai did with this little car. Give it some time and they will make one that is “track” ready
Why did they give the win of drifting to the Mustang? The hyundai drifted just as well, if not better. If it's just going to be lame "I prefer this for unspecified reasons" or "I prefer this for unmeasurable reasons", then why even bother with a fake comparison and just say you prefer the mustang and not waste everyone's time with a make-believe comparison?
To favour their fan base i guess. I get it look and feel could be different, maybe it felt better with Mustang? But like you said Hyundai looked just as good and i was also surprised by their given results.

Fun fact: Pikes Peak hillclimb requires EV to make noise at a certain level (I believe it's for safety). I think Hyundai doesn't want their car to sound like an ambulance so they used the simulated sound, and it's great.
I'm a car guy too, but it's frustrating seeing all this EV hate.. These cars are pretty much neck and neck now, and EV tech is only going to get better, are more environmentally friendly, and aren't going away. We should be excited for the future of cars, not resisting the change away from ICE engines.
It’s more about the government trying to make people switch. Especially when infrastructure and manufacturing technology is so behind in the usa compared to the rest of the world (thanks to decades of government legislation) that make switching and supporting EVs too expensive for the average income american wage slave
@evildrizzt1 I think the government should be doing a lot more to incentivize the switch.. it's a great way to decarbonize faster, yet an F150 is still the top selling vehicle in America. People clearly aren't being forced into anything yet. Decades of inaction on that front are forcing a faster transition than we could have had otherwise, but still most companies are producing ICE engines until 2030 or 2035. As BEV tech gets better and manufacturing increases, they'll be cheaper to buy and own than ICE vehicles as well.
Consider that we are also moving towards a future with cars being replaced as often as phones. With the complication and inherent danger in working on electrical systems in EV cars, we will see a rise in repair shops specializing in this area. However, the repairs themselves will be much more expensive. As a tradeoff your repair schedule is essentially zero with an EV, but your repairs that do happen are much more expensive. What I anticipate is that planned obsolesce will rise in cars due to cost. It gives the manufacturer a whole lot more control over the vehicle (even gas cars are increasingly moving towards tracking data, just look at the response toyota gave to the GR Corollas that burst into flames) but also allows them to lock out users from "higher trims" which are essentially just software. A trim upgrade to allow you faster speeds is essentially an update, but not something the car is unable to do due to mechanical components. Overall, I think we will run into an issue long-term with cars and recyclability and disposal of. We already have this issue in the tech sector, but it will become much more obvious 20 years into the future once electric cars run into similar issues and have much larger sizes to work with. ]Not to mention the increased cost in general of insurance with EV and modern cars due to the mass amount of sensors in the car.

EV). I know he was running the AC on one of the laps, but even with it off it was still having some problems. Endurance race cars are a completely different breed and not comparable to any gas car you buy in a showroom...
Pretty sad when Mustang, an ICE car, cuts power due to overheating when the 5N, a BEV, has no heating issues. 5N is a track beast.
Why is that sad? That's literally always been an inherent weakness of ICE cars, where a significant portion of the energy from combustion of gasoline is converted to heat. We the millennial folk are used to the ICE configs, we grew up with them, we watched them change, and now there's a new generation of drivers getting on to the roads and EVs are slowly becoming the better choice all around. Unless we find an alternative fuel source that is readily abundant, efficient, and not nearly as pollutant as gasoline the ICE is going away.

dark horse with the 700A package is over 80k, jesus christ haha...i'd rather just jump for the gt500 at that point, can still get one under warranty. props to Donut for throwing a cute girl in the mix, lord knows they need the fucking clicks now
$60K factory Track car can't do 20 min lap session
Yeah that mustang did overheat.... Ford doing ford things lol

Acknowledging that they're private owner cars made a new fan today. Subscribed. We need that honesty on youtube.
i’ve ridden in the ioniq 5 and the acceleration is absolutely insane. it feels like a rollercoaster.
the engine noise i agree its lame asf. if your gonna drive this thing own the dead quiet speed it delivers. honestly its pretty badass to be so quick but so quiet at the same time imo. but if i was gonna choose artificial noise to play while driving it be the supersonic one it fits the ev the best imo
also probably another controversial opinion of mine i love the hot hatch/crossover look of this car
8:39 you just got Coconut Malled
so sick of the EV hate from this channel. Some of us don't care how the power is generated, only what the experience is.
The real experience is the cobalt mines
@@parkerlee1301 The real experience is on the oil rigs.
I don't think it's hate bro... I think some ppl still love gas engines and no matter how amazing these evs are they can't be overly impressed.... that's kind of how I feel
Who’s here just because of Davidjay24’s Walmart video
Yooo!! this came out sooo good!! glad we could have fun out in the sun
YES YES YES!!! I'm so stoked on this car and honestly care more to hear from Justin than anyone else. You know damn well he's not gonna gush over this thing if it doesn't deserve it.

I move these N-Lines cars onto trains all day and they are pretty fast and cool
Not sure who decided to call it a 'transmition' at the beginning but hopefully an editor will catch it next time.
EVs have transmissions. Just not the ones we're used to using. Most have a single speed trans. (I did hear of a 2-speed trans for an EV but I can't seem to remember where I heard/read it. Maybe it was more of a power to the motor(s) thing and not a transmission thing?)
I just looked it up - Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT have 2-speeds
@bluflaam777 no he means the literal spelling mistake. Some editor is asleep at the wheel or crying for help.
@@bluflaam777LSA The Porsche Taycan has a 2 speed transmission. Tesla tried it for the original roadster but kept snapping them so they gave up and just went fixed gears.
They misspell things like that all the time as a joke. Like Hrsprs and Mo Powa
@@matthewschoenemann if it was in reference to the electric car I'd be inclined to agree, but it seems weird to refer to the Dark Horse's stick like that.
9:08 I love seeing the 4Runner in frame man. I think that thing is so sick.
4:56 now Jimmy's dad has Jimmy in the ads too
The Hyundai looks like the tactical droid from Clone Wars
Yep and it's faster than so many other "fast" cars.
lol i cant unsee that now
That's a nasty shot lol 💀😭

“It’s still and EV so not good”…..EV proceeds to shred the Mustang.
but the Mustang is no good either
Ev still a POS

Lolol "Transmition" for transmission 😂😂😂
Fun fact: Pikes Peak hillclimb requires EV to make noise at a certain level (I believe it's for safety). I think Hyundai doesn't want their car to sound like an ambulance so they used the simulated sound, and it's great.
One shot energy chews do the same thing for a lot more, and you can get different flavors. Only $5 more as well
I clicked this video just so i could dislike the 17:08 long ad
Your videos have always been and still are great. Love your work, Donut!
I'm a car guy too, but it's frustrating seeing all this EV hate.. These cars are pretty much neck and neck now, and EV tech is only going to get better, are more environmentally friendly, and aren't going away. We should be excited for the future of cars, not resisting the change away from ICE engines.
Absolutely ! We have to be happy that tech is gonna bring us BEV like this IONIQ 5 to enjoy it !
@precisionsniper2012 now that is a scary thought..
Wait, @Donut, for the Ionic 5 N did you do the drag race and hot lap with the shifting simulation on or off? From what I understand, the simulated shifting decreases the Ionic 5 N's performance a little bit.
great production quality
I’m glad we have Justin 👍
