Awesome vid bro!👊Just ran across this vid looking for possible diff upgrades! I'll definitely try this on mine as I toasted both diffs during my last 2s bash! The jumping is what did it since I'm sure there was lots of flex and movement in the diff housing. Have you had good luck wit this setup?

Eric, Thanx so much brother. This is awesome you are commenting on my vid. This upgrade is solid. I havn t run brushless but larger 380 motor with different pinions and really holds up. I was ready to trash the rc untill i did this. Let me know if you have any questions.

I have the same car for my son. We’ve had no issues with the diffs. I did notice you run your diffs dry. I put a coating of automotive bearing grease on the gears in the diff. They run quieter that way. Not sure the grease helps prevent stripping though. We break arms and driveshafts from jumps. Stock servo gears are rubbish too. Waiting on a new servo. Anyway, thanks for the vid!

Thanx for the input! Yes, the diffs are currently dry, only because i feel i have tried different lubes and had given up! Some people have many issues, many have none...strange. Nonetheless, these shims have helped us greatly! Thank you for watching.

@@phillybrc This gets me wondering if it’s a problem with the diff case on the chassis. I see that it’s a replaceable part. Perhaps some fit loose and some fit snug? Anyone ever try that on the forum you follow? Part#7530

I loved mine for the first week, but now I keep blowing diffs over and over... Stock power system but keep blowing diffs on the front while running on dirt. I'm considering this vehicle and appreciate the tip. Working with what you had, I probably would have placed both shims on the ring gear side. Or purchased twice the shims and doubled the ring side, single opposing. Why no grease? Couldn't hurt. Probably fine stock but I plan to go brushless so I won't be screwing around when it comes to the drivetrain. Do you think this car is worth it? It's got some stiff competition for a lot less money. I prefer not to jump on the build-house clones everyone is nuts about but if I have to spend $150 for the car and another $100 to get it 'right' I'm going to have a lot to consider. Thanks.

It s been a great car but considering the repairs i ve done, I would just buy a brushed version of the Granite, Typhon or Senton by Arrma. Yes, I do grease now. I didn t have any grease at the time and stores were closed, so I went dry. Thanx for watching!

@@phillybrc Thanks for your reply. I already have several brushless larger scale models, one of them being an Arrma product. My issue is I need to find another 1/18 or 1/16 to bash with some friends that run this particular scale. My AE 18T is not a good basher and parts are becoming scarce now so I have to shelve it. Doesn't seem to be much diversity in this scale anymore.

That is the wrong place to put this shim. For the shim to work there it will have to contact the trans case. It will also contact the inner race of the bearing, the inner race will be spinning so you are adding friction to your drive train. To shim the ring gear closer to the pinion you put the shim on the short side before the bearing.

Thanx for the input. I agree, I say that in the video. I made my shims at work and the inner diameter is a touch small.

If an RC doesn t come from the factory that way, I m modifying it. That s how I see it anyhow. Thanx for your input.

@@phillybrc in reality it should have come from the factory shimmed though. The fact that these dont is laziness and cost cutting.

@@RobynTapps Ya, I totally agree. Funny how some people have no problems with stock diffs and some do. Comes down to manufacturing tolerances is my guess.

Mine Teton has a hobbywing esc&motor and its crazy fast but it keeps tearing up the diffs or drive lines even the nicer blue aluminium ones with a 3s battery it will do backflips if u just punch it lol

3s is wild for these little cars. The shims help alot but 3S is asking alot lol.

What pinion for brushless? How many teeth with a 60t steel spur. The net i not helping, and I'm not seeing hardened steel pinion in 2.3mm bore size. It's frustrating.

Shimming is a must but this is NOT how you do it properly…

    • @phillybrc

I state that i would makes some changes but was limited because these shims were made at my work and dimensions were off a little bit. Make a video, i d like to see how you do it.

Sorry. It s tough to balance ,not overpower the voice-over. Depends on what you are viewing on perhaps too.

Diff bearings are 8x12mm and a 8x10mm shim should on the inside.

    • @phillybrc
      @phillybrc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanx for the input. I actually state that shim should be inside of bearing, since mine were made not bought, the inner diameter didn t quite allow for that to happen
