      Do your research on company road maps to see if the near future holds something that you feel would be worth it over what is currently available.
      If there is something better for you wait it out , if not do not deprive yourself from an awesome gaming experience.
      Myself, I'm happy with a 27" 1440 VA monitor, it will last until the 39" & 45" 4k oleds come out those may be my endgame monitors , if they are't what I had hoped , then the 32" 4ks will give me plenty of options

    I love that you show actual gameplay captured with camera. Most reviewers on TH-cam don’t seem to be playing and only go on about numbers and loop some demo footage. That doesn’t transport the impression a gamer expects to get from that monitor at all.

      What you see on a camera, or even from a screen capture, is not representative of what it looks like in person. For example, if you're watching on an IPS display, then it's physically impossible for you to see the black levels of an OLED display. That's one of the many ways in which you don't get the actual experience. The only way to get a good idea of what a monitor is like is to see it in person.

    I've been using an ultrawide for years now, there are very few issues with aspect ratios etc - at very worst you need to typically run a little mod or just put up with black bars playing in 16:9 or 4:3 for older games.
    One problem I've never been able to resolve is with in home streaming, Steam/moonlight etc simply can't change the resolution of the game without a lot of mucking about trying to move between an ultrawide local display and a remote 4k display. Trust me I've tried everything.

    • @Vorexia
      @Vorexia 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +24

      Some people on Reddit have said that when doing 16:9 on an ultrawide OLED too extensively, the display ages like shit. The pixels in the black bars will be under a much lighter load over time, so as the pixels that fit the 16:9 format start burning out and lose some of their brightness, the outer ones will look much brighter relatively speaking, causing a pretty obvious and distracting border between a dimmer center and a brighter edge to emerge over time. Don't know how much of a concern this actually is, though. Reddit can be overdramatic at times.

    Having played both late OW1 and entirety of OW2 on an ultrawide 32 inch monitor, I can't ever see myself going back. And yes, I also main Tracer, but after adjusting to the screen format I really didn't find myself struggling compared to beforehand when I played on a flat screen 27 inch.
    I also use it professionally, so I went with a less aggressive curve, but still the immersion at a 50cm screen-to-face distance is great. Hopefully ultrawide OLEDs will also see better price competition once they become more standardized, just like regular ultrawides have become.

    For anyone wondering about another fix for the blurry text, the 34-inch version has a Wide gamut range color option whereas the 27-inch version does not meaning there is no blurry Windows text while on that mode and it looks the exact same as the DCI-P3 setting. I bought this monitor and it is the endgame for me highly recommend it, the matte coating is fantastic compared to the previous gens I've seen, and the 4-year warranty via Amazon stacked will give any burn-in or Asus Customer service fear a rest.

      Doesn't matter much, because both WOLED and QD-OLED use different sub pixel patterns to RGB. In fact, QD-OLED is even worse because its pixel layout is more like alternating bricks stacked on top of each other, and they don't even align to end at the same position, so it's literally impossible for the off pixels that make text black to make perfectly straight lines vertically.

Since I got this one on for ~500EUR a year and a half ago, now I am still not ready to go OLED with current prices, maybe if we get something like this one you are testing at 27" 1440p at ~500-650EUR next year.

      I just bought the 49" g9 oled. Because it has a lower curve. From my own experience. High curve displays are definitely impressive when playing a game suited for it. As displays get bigger, we can only sit so far away from them while still having a traditional desk setup. If you have a huge display with a high curve and you sit to close to it, you will end up turning your head to see the stuff on the edges of your screen. This ends up getting annoying and can make your neck sore, especially with some games. Believe it or not the first thing you should do when buying a big monitor is consider how much space you have, not just on your desk/wall, but space to sit away from said desk/wall. Proper viewing angle/distance isn't talked about enough. Seems silly but it does matter.

Either disable cleartype (just search for cleartype in the start menu), or go through the cleartype configuration and set it up for the different subpixel layout. Given the price of a monitor like this, if you're wanting to use it mainly for driving / flight sim stuff I think a VR headset probably makes more sense. Even more immersive than an ultrawide.
    I'm personally waiting for a mainstream PC headset with eye tracking before jumping into VR though. Partly because I think that's going to be an essential interaction method, but also because when the FOV increases so much and you're asking your PC to push all these pixels, it makes sense to focus the rendering budget on where the user is actually looking. Because without foveated rendering there is a significant extra cost to both ultrawide and VR, when compared to more traditional 16:9 displays.

    • @Bramagon
      @Bramagon 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I think it's still too early for VR tbh, current sets are much better than last gen, but still lacking in many areas. More clarity, higher FOV, and foveated rendering based on eyetracking like you mentioned are needed. They are also not that comfortable to wear for longer gaming sessions.

First unit had the joystick fail, and Dell overnighted me a free monitor and nothing to send back. Was a surprisingly smooth experience. Considering Dell's warranty is for three years and covers burn-in, I probably wouldn't buy another brand based on my experience. I would drop down to a 32" monitor after using a 34", because the added width is sometimes more annoying than it is a benefit. Would be easier to see what's on screen, and some games don't support 21:9 or have black bars during cut scenes.

    The 21:9 on OW2 is actually a pretty good scam. You dont see more, but less. The way the game works in 21:9 is that it cuts off the top and bottom bars, instead of increasing the side view, because they still dont want you to get a competetive advantage. Its just dumb. And 32:9 doesnt even work.
    Edit: So i was wrong and it was only OW1 and OW2 supports 21:9 properly.

      It doesn't even give a competitive advantage. I believe there are multiple videos showcasing that the wider the monitor, the slower the reaction time because there's just too much information on the screen.

    Did you notice a big difference between this and a 360hz monitor? I want to upgrade from 144hz IPS but not sure if this is enough of a jump. Is it actually that much smoother for fps games?

    • @little_fluffy_clouds
      @little_fluffy_clouds 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Going from 144 to 360 Hz is subjectively not as noticeable as going from 60 to 144 Hz. It is noticeable, just not a “night and day” difference.
      I would say it’s only worth it if you’re playing twitch shooters competitively, where even a split second could mean the difference between life or death.

    • @nochancecw
      @nochancecw 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@little_fluffy_clouds thanks for the response. I have been playing twitchy shooters since before doom and original CS came out. I think I need to see one of these new OLED monitors in person to see what all the fuss is about. I really hope 360 ultrawide comes out soon, this is really want I want. I don't think OLED 240hz ultrawides is enough of a jump but everyone I see talk about oled make it sound like it has way less ghosting, which I always notice on 1ms 144hz ips displays.

    I picked up one of the LG 45" OLED ultrawides during Black Friday for around $1000, only complaint so far is peak brightness in HDR is only 400 nits.
    Part of me is hoping that a 1000nit version gets released, part of me hopes it takes a few years so I don't have buyers remorse 😂
