Hi Ian …. Wow that jet sounds just so cool on the passes … I am loving your new venture into EDF …. It’s fantastic!!!!! Well done for a great maiden and fully understand the nerves ….. Fantastic landing !!! Thanks Michael
Ian after watching a good handful of your vids esp maidens I must admit you seem the most genuine fella on youtube. You say exactly what 99% of use newbies-inters feels every maiden and nearly every flight. I've whacked some hand launched jets off the ground from a poorly recommended CG before. Thanks for the heads up on the 85mm it looked spot on.
Thanks for the great comment, Mark!! I always just tell it as I feel it!! No point in saying I'm not nervous because for maiden flights I always am Lol I often say I'm just a self taught pilot down a field with my Girlfriend, a video camera and a plane!! But what I've noticed is people watch me and then gain the confidence to have a go at flying themselves!! Now that can't be bad, thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Yes the CG!! I watch a lot of the big channels and most of them don't mention the CG but I try to in order to help other people!! Yes if a plane is a little nose heavy you will get it down!! tail heavy usually ends up in a crash Lol thanks for watching and commenting JB 😄👍
Very nice maiden Ian...what a greaser of a landing as well. Of course Cheryl was on point...tough with the fast ones. There is nothing like a maiden flight is there? Whether you feel nervous, a bit of apprehension, more focused, more excitement...or a bit of all of it...its a different feeling flight in some way for all of us. Awesome part of the hobby! Love that you share all of your maidens with us and discuss what your feeling at the time...very relatable, and like being there with you. Liked the specs at the end too! So...what EDF is next? You seem to be on a roll...
Thanks for a fab comment Adam, yes it's a strange part of the hobby!! A part that I don't always enjoy!! No more planes for me now Lol I've had an official warning off the boss 😄👍
Wow Ian, she just keeps going !! You should have seen my hands when I maiden the MXS, I was Nervous, was still nervous when I made the onboard video on Saturday.
@@IansRCExploits Yes , now we dialed out CG and the trims, expo, and dual rates. Now we fly with 110 percent confidence. and not to forget Range test as well.
Great team flying Ian & Sheryl. I love this jet as it is so relaxing to fly. I put a reflex gyro in it. Shame there is not a cricket pitch to fly off. I do not like hand launches. You do it well.
Thanks, lots of Cricket pitches around but you wouldn't be allowed to fly there!! Never mind hand launch it is Lol thanks for watching and commenting 😄👍
Nice maiden and is a nice forgiving jet. I would defo put the landing gear on it as it will make your life a lot easier. I fly of similar grass to you and it copes very easily with it. The landing gear is very robust as well. Nice flight.
Thanks Terry, no my grass very rarely gets cut and is very rutted so I won't be using the landing gear until the summer!! Thanks for watching and commenting 😄👍
Just watch your video. Great watch Ian 😊 fabulous landing. I've just brought a arrows bae hawk. Never flown jets before. Looking forward to seeing your videos in the future. .happy flying buddy 😊
Nice maiden Ian, you looked in complete control but I can understand the nerves completely. I’m exactly the same before every flight haha. Just got my A license recently. Hoping for the Arrows Hawk 50mm from Santa 🎅🏻👍🏻
Handlaunching is always horrible, I've put landing gear on my arrows jets and changed locations as I had no tarmac before ,I dont get that feeling in your stomach anymore. Starting too miss in to be honest Haha. Good video ian
Well done Ian, like flying my Marlin, like using 4s 2200 battery with the front battery strap just over the battery with a little battery showing. Jeff in LA USA
Thanks Jeff, what CG did you go with 80-90mm ? It's a lovely jet to fly, hopefully next time I fly it I won't feel so nervous and enjoy it more!! Thanks for watching and commenting 😄👍
Textbook maiden, looks a powerful model, at 2:19 seeing the water vapour condensing out the exhaust when you went full throttle, and how it then practically leapt out your hand even though you said it felt heavy to hold makes it look an impressive machine. Ever had any issues with moisture interfering with motors of servos of any of your models? Wales gets it worse but even over the border here in England its going to be something I have to deal with when I start building a collection, would you ever have any reservations of a second flight after belly landing in wet grass like that? Cheers
Yes that one is powerful but flies very nice!! No I've never had any problems with motors or servo's from the damp, although I never fly if its raining!! After a belly landing I always check the plane over for any damage, especially the control surfaces and linkages but normally I'm ready for another go Lol thanks for watching and commenting 😄👍
@@IansRCExploits Good to know cheers. And no problem, happy to do my bit for a channel where you guys actually talk and act like normal people and not like you're trying to hold the attention of 6 year olds lol. I see you've also got a lot of videos with more scale models and old war birds that I will want to add at some point, so will work my way through. Cheers
To hand launch a new plane is always scary as one can't know how it will work. Once I pulled the throttle cut switch by mistake on hand launch and down the EDF went.
Ian are you sure the undercarriage will not handle the grass - might be worth a try - I have been told that it fly's lit the 50mm EDF Viper -?? Congratulations on its maiden I really should dig mine out and get it into the air...
Hi Martyn, the landing gear might cope in the summer, but not at the moment, it felt nice to fly and I felt it was similar to the BAE Hawk, thanks for watching and commenting 😄👍
Congrats on another successful maiden flight. I’ve been looking at the possibility of a Marlin as my first EDF, there’s a lot of nice things about this jet. My thought is to fly with the landing gear on. The nose gear is reported to be a weak spot, increasing the size of the nose wheel to the diameter of the main wheels, improves the situation. I’m not sure how well it will handle takeoff from our grass field, I will toss it if necessary. I have seen how slow and stable they fly with flaps, so landing should be relatively gentle, and not tear the landing gear away. Not certain that I’m ready for an EDF.
Well even though I was very nervous the Marlin flew very well and it didn't need any trim at all, I forgot to say during the video!! It is fantastic quality and came without a single mark on it!! Very easy to put together all screw construction, on the second flight I relaxed and realised what a great flying EDF Jet it is!! Definitely a jet trainer 😄👍
If you're not a little nervous with a maiden flight....check to make sure you still have a pulse!! Great work Ian, well done. Rx used?? You know I've seen a couple of videos where a 3000 is used in the Marlin. Thumbs up Ian, AirHammer out!!
Well done Ian, flight number ten you should have calmed down a bit, adrenalin is a bit of a nuisance sometimes, loved the splashy landing, the would look cook in slow mo, next time 👍
Thanks Cliff, I've tried a bit of slow mo but it's not very good as my 4K is filmed at 25 fps if it was 1080p 60 fps slow mo would look better!! Maybe I'll try next flight 😄👍
Good video. I have one on order & will also need to hand toss because how rough my field is. What servo pushrod covers did you fit & where did you get them?
Well done on your successful maiden. Funny how you say she feels very nice 3:33 when theirs is no feedback on the transmitter. Something none flyers can understand. 😁
Thanks Stephen, I'm not sure I understand what you mean about the feedback on the transmitter!! In hindsight what I should have said was that it felt a bit like a trainer, no vices!! But my nerves got the better of me yesterday👍
@@IansRCExploits What I mean is that none flyers of model aircraft seem to understand, how any one model can feel any different than the next model as theirs is no feedback from the transmitter it is the same transmitter that you are using.
Is it that non flyers understand or don't understand how a model can feel? I think each model feels different as to how it reacts to the transmitter input, yes nearly all my models are on my one transmitter.
@@IansRCExploits None Flyers Do not understand . How can you feel how a model feels when flying you are only holding a transmitter. This is what none flyers have asked me many times befoe.
Ahh right!! Sorry I was a bit slow on the uptake, I guess they wouldn't understand, but I've always felt that you can!! The model that brought that feeling home to me was the big Fms DHC Beaver when I flew it I could feel how big and ponderous it felt compared to my other tail draggers!! But I guess what we are sensing is how differently the planes react to the stick inputs!! Would you agree?
Hi Ian, great flight. where did you purchase the push rod servo covers. I fly off a grass stip and with landing gear on only just managed to get into sky before hitting the tall grass.
Hi! I read that this plane is suitable for beginners. Do you think i could fly this plane with little experience? I only flew a rc plane once, but i have a lot experience with rc cars, so im pretty sure i could build it, but im not sure about my pilot skills
Hi Domonkos, I think they mean it would be a good beginner EDF Jet!! Not really a good plane for honing your flying skills, I would gain some experience with a high wing trainer first like a Fms SuperEZ or the Xfly Glastar, I think the Marlin would be a little bit to much of a handful, but after a bit of experience with a flight sim or a trainer it would make a good first EDF 😀👍
