Hi, Make sure the object is selected. Press ctrl+3 to add the modifier. You can also add the subdivision modifier from the right side panel where modifiers are located. It should be visible and make the shape round as shown.

Hi, change the shader type to world in the shader editor. See in the top left corner. There will be a menu (object) There you can add nodes for background.
Hi, to select faces switch to face mode. Simply click on any face to select it. First go in edit mode (tab key) then press 3 to enable the face mode. Hold shift to select multiple faces. To make it more easier turn on 3d pie menus addon (builtin )(shift+tab) to show different modes while working.
Hi, for the white faces, add a edge loop so the shape is maintained. You can select faces with loop select option and assign white material. (use select menu)

why my loop cut is moving in the same direction, but not like yours moving outward! at 01:00
Hi, once you add the loop cuts, click to set it. Then use the transform tool and scale to move the loops on opposite sides.
