    Critical mistake made in this video instruction. You must apply the load on the struts before torquing the bolts. Car weight needs to be on wheels or you need to Jack up the assembly. Loosely put the bolts on first then put the wheels on, torque the upper bolts to 33 lbs, then drive up a ramp jack, and tighten the two wheel strut nuts as tight as possible by hand, then jack the car up again, remove the wheels and torque those bolts to 116lbs. If you don’t torque with the loads on good chance you will hear noise while steering or settling of the springs / strut bearing May prematurely wear out

    Thank you so much for making this video. Got mine done today. A side note for everyone:
    When doing the top nuts on the driver side, you will need to remove the wiper arm... or do what I did and stop the wipers in the fill up position by turning the key off mid wiper sweep.

    replaced mine about 6 months ago, recently developed that popping noise, replaced sway bar links, still had the noise. after checking all front end bolts, finally tightened the top five bolts again on the upper shock bolts. Noise is gone for now but the torque is way more than 35 lbs. Hoping this isnt a problem down the road.

  • @MacCready_
    @MacCready_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If you live in the rust belt, its not a bad idea to have a set of sway bar end links on hand because the bolts may be so rusted you'll have cut them off. They can always be returned if you don't need to replace them.

    For anyone looking to buy a new complete strut set. DO NOT BUY KYB!!! KYB top strut mounts do not set in place properly and will make a ton of noise almost immediately after install, they will get worse over time, and will throw off your alignment over and over again. The strut/shock itself is great, but the top mount is not. KYB will not address this common problem (check the crv forums) and will only send you the exact same strut back to you which will do the same thing as before. OEM complete sets are more expensive, but will work like they are supposed to. If you are just replacing the strut with kyb, but keeping the oem strut spring and mounts, that will work great as well. Good luck!

      I agree and show entire video, you know he replaced the sway bar link as its new one, be nice to see best way to take off bottom because no need to take off Strut if junk, and he should of stated most don't like coming off, when seen hammer banging on 6mm to take sway bar, I knew it was getting replaced. It's worth the headache and ride quality to know it's NEW and can be trusted.

    Why not show entire video on how to replace the sway bar link and how you got it off the bottom, you never show how to do the entire job, some don't know and maybe shouldn't be doing it but it's what they must do because of money, so if making videos on how to and where to buy, then show it all because that's a new sway bar link, a person needs to know if they should replace them or not if they must be cut off, these are the worst designs ever by all manufacturers PERIOD. Thanks on saying that don't drop lower control arm or can cause damage to CV JOINT, then some don't know what's a bad joint, when you hear clicking going around corners from front, most likely a bad Joint, replacing your strut, good time to replace that as well as its 1/2 apart already and part isn't much, last I knew, about $70 to $110 depending on where, can buy remanufacted parts that's cheaper and people believe new is better, not always true, had more new parts fail than remanufacted parts. So always return those CORE CHARGES and get your money back so it can be rebuilt. Most of the time on these sway bar links, they don't like coming off, I knew when hammered on socket 6mm Allen head that it wasn't coming off easy, these cost about $15 to $50 depending on vehicle this one is higher priced because it's bigger as in long and many are like this, replace it so you don't get the clanking noises from bumps and handles corners much better when new and if must take one side off, then take other off and put new, should last a long time if done right. Also 19mm on wheel lug nuts, mine are 17 mm and on the locks as well. Once I replaced a part that was rebuilt and was Dealership item only, bought at local junkyard for $25 plus $2 insurance on it, got credit because junk, hard to get part off and back on, was for a different vehicle and Dealership price was $1,100 online through a place like this, just $125 remanufacted parts with 1 year warranty, cost me $5 to ship back to get my $25 CORE CHARGE back, so return them so they can be rebuilt, reman parts can be better than new, I once bought only new, now I'll take Renan over New, less chance of failure, these places do a great job rebuilding them and testing them and better than new on certain parts. Many years ago, you had to get rebuild kits to fix vehicle, these stores wasn't around then, either junkyard or rebuild parts, it's how I was trained on brakes in High School Shop Class. Much cheaper to do at that time. If didn't rebuild brakes right, then you couldn't bring in your vehicle to work on it and failed a grade on not rebuilding caliper or wheel cyclinder (drum brake), cost like $3 on kit but best do it correctly or will leak on you, your brakes us your life and everyone out on the streets and sidewalks, so your responsibility is high if rebuilding them. Please when making a video, just show it all that's done because I knew right away it's a new sway bar link, it's money you will make as if never been replaced should be if replacing Struts now. It should be mentioned that this should be replaced unless replaced recently and comes off easy, most don't that's made like these, and should explain what's what because shops will sell you just Struts and not the Strut Bearing on top of Strut that always should be replaced, my noise never went away on old vehicle and Shop said your Struts are fine at 160K, he was right then started blowing out with there junk ones but never put new bearings on, came back and said the noise is still there. They honored Struts 3 times as leaking in 15K and said no more, lifetime was lifetime, then filed chapter 13 and many uses there tools as almost as good as other ones you see at many garages. Then told me that's the Bearing making that noise, said I should of been told this as I bought my tires here and other stuff. Best to get loaded Struts for safety for one thing like he stated don't remove nut, that spring will kill you, I got tools on old vehicle and put new Strut Bearing on, was good then got notice that Strut towers become loose over years and have new one welded on over old from it. No recalls, only a service bulletin and then they didn't do recalls on some stuff yet. Then it started when people getting killed. Mine was off road with 196K on it but ran like new, never leaked or burned oil. Parked 12 years ago out back. 1st new car bought ever. Brother-inlaw replaced my starter and broke ear off from over tighten it, I got another from cousin who was the manager but had to wait the next morning, he not a mechanic and 6 years later my starter started to drain my battery. Was new.

      I think because if talking while filming video to do for TH-cam and we all could hear him well. That I was happy about and heard everything said. I just wondering why he didn't use never seize on nuts putting back together and stated that he replaced the Sway Bar links as its best to unless already done. If original, then replace them with Struts and worth the extra money if paying someone or doing yourself, then only need to take bottom nut off and leave it connected to Strut as don't need. Will be happy because in a few months, you'll hear a noise and think Struts you did an have checked out only to find out its the sway Bay links is bad on one side. They break when you don't want them to, when trying, can't break them off. Stud just spins which sucks. Replace with Struts, it's one thing a mechanic won't lie to you about, if any, they may say there fine so you go on with noise and they just missed there bad day of taking off. Some are a pain to replace.
