Metal, to it's very core, is about looking at the other bands, and making it a point too be better than them. Heavier, faster, more sinister, more violent, grotesque... etc. That's where all the genres came from. Heavy Metal itself was made by guys who enjoyed rock, but wanted something heavier and darker. Evolution ensued.

for final touches, you should record the album to a tape, then copy the tape to another tape (for more obscure sound, keep repeating this phase), then grab the songs to mp3 and you got some nice oldschool grindcore mastering
