I originally found your channel trying to find home made diy sofubi videos a few years ago. I loved all the faux-fubi videos but I thought we knew everything we could about soft vinyl casting. It was just out of reach to do yourself or at home. But now with all the groundwork you’ve put in I can’t stop thinking of all the possibilities. Thanks for pushing the boundaries and changing the game. Very inspiring to see some change in the sofubi world.
When I see videos like this I wonder "Is Craftsman revolutionizing decades old toy-crafting in his shop?" and I'd like to think the answer is "Yes!" and that some Sofubi manufacturers are seeing this and saying "We can make them faster AND cheaper?!" Excellent work, as usual! Hoping to see more content, but as always make sure you're healthy and safe first!
Mr C, whatever you put on youtube I'll be watching, I'm sat here in my garage, doodling on wood with chisels for no other reason than I want more time and fun with carving and having you and others in my ear and eye when I'm doing it? marvelous :)
I love the crafsman. Sure I enjoy watching a few vlog channels and an occasional History channel throwback to when they did history videos but there is nothing better than seeing someone create something, with the crafsman you get the added bonus of being able to buy some of his creations, got me the orange with grey face and the black with orange face pocketnauts. My daughter saw them on my wall and said "Dad, can I play with one?" and as a collector in my head I don't wanna do it because I do enjoy looking at them but as a father my heart melted from her voice and overcame my collector side and I gave her the orange one to play with. Nothing makes me come to the brink of crying like hearing the words "daddy, do you wanna play toys with me?" yes child, I do and I thank god everyday I get to do it and thank you crafsman, she loves pocketnaut
I want to say, I very much appreciate the work that goes into these videos. As someone who LOVES toys but has no experience with crafting of the caliber that is covered here, for someone like me, you still make your videos so enjoyable to watch. Thank you for showing me a glimpse into the hard work that goes into what you do, CrafsMan. Much love to you, and to all the many people that make it possible for you to do what you do.
Thank you for your service! Seriously, your willingness to share your process, split-test, isolate variables, and document all of it, is a great service to the entire toymaking community! Also - Thank you for always sharing the work (and social media handles) of other creators. It helps many of us when we want to continue exploring the community.
I love your channel! You are without a doubt my favorite puppet TH-camr! Yours is among the several channels that I seek to model my own channel after..
I can't wait til these soft vinyl figures are openly available. Love these designs and also love watching you doing new things. Always inspiring, my friend. God bless!
I always forget that you are a toy maker as well. This channel is mostly a DIY tip channel or a technique helper channel but you are also selling your toys on the side. Or maybe it's a main source of income and YT turned into the side, I don't know. I love what you are doing, it's so calm and soothing to watch you work even thought I have 0 interest in making SOFUBI figures myself.
Have you ever tried cutting your own stamps? You can get sheets/blocks of natural rubber, glue them to a hard backer and carve a custom design. Seems like something right up your alley.
5:15 I had a buddy that made custom mini wheels for RC tractor pulling contests, which I didn’t know existed let alone had a competitive scene. I learned two things that day.
Have you looked into doing the electroplating for the molds yourself? it's relatively straightforward now, and you would need a much more flexible material to cast in it since you have a rigid mold. But that could be an interesting video series.
1:1:1 ratio by volume? weight? I worked as a silicone mold maker at a shop where we used platinum cure silicone(it came right out of a tap on a machine!). To get stronger molds we would do one coat of silicone, put the part in an oven to cure it, then take it out and do another coat, return it to the oven and eventually build up 3 or more coats on it. Then we would demold the silicone part by using compressed air between the mold and part. The part would often fly across the shop during this process but the mold and part were no worse for wear. We used resin casts and not 3d printed parts as our mold masters however. Anyways, maybe some of this info helps!
Yes you can! :D I made a metallic version of one of my youngest son's rock characters using mica mixed into the plastisol, along with mica rubbed into/onto the mold's surface to give it a really nice finished sheen. :)
Your channel has inspired me to try to make toys. My workspace is limited to my bedroom, though, so anything I make will just be 3D printed out of TPU. I want to try to make “imitation sofubi” by making the two parts of the toy out of TPU in a way that it’ll be easy to print and still soft.
Super neat. I think the burning is also happening because the silicone is too thin at those areas, which are “high points” when you’re painting on the mold. I wonder if you could do a matrix mold with these!
FYI Folks - Crafsman will be in SofubiLand (AKA Brooklyn, NY) on June 9th, attending Five Points Fest (via the TeleCrafsman) So if you wanna meet him, That's one way to do it. He will be "Mobile" (We made it so we can wheel him around to meet everyone) Hope to meet a few of you there! xoxo - Volt
Thank you so much! I haven't started production, but you have helped me out already in casting and molding. Have we found any clear Plastisol that would work fo these?
This is an absolutely amazing revelation. I personally cant wait to get started on working on a few of my own. Though I'll ask, when you pour the plastisol in, you then stick the still hot mold in a vacuum chamber to remove the bubbles correct? Make sure the liquid gets into all the crevices?
Smooth-on dragonskin can be mixed by weight OR volume! Rubbers with a 1:1 A:B ratio can usually be mixed with either unit - or at least as far as I’ve seen!
***Just a thought; Your jacket molds look like they could be used to cast Gummy candy too. "GummyFubi"! Thank you Crafsman for the video. Well needed for more than you know! ❤
have you tried to make like japanese do? making an electroplated mold over a wax cast? In several twitter japanese channel i saw that some people use a fryier with oil for heat the mold for cast Vynil.
Great video as usual Crafsman, i just got an idea, maybe its too crazy, or maybe impossible to do... but just mixing two of your videos, can one make a mold of a sofubi and then enlarge it with mineral spirits? cheers from Chile, love y'all
I would love to make some vinyl heads for Mego dolls, since the new figures have hard plastic heads. I have the skills. Now if I could just afford the equipment and materials...
Crafsman, I don’t know if you or anyone else will see this, but I’m trying to make some cool toys for my little cousins. I’m decent with sculpture but want to find a material to make toys out of that will be able to handle being dropped or played with without shattering like super sculpey. Any recommendations on different sculpting materials or methods to make toys more playable? Thanks man

You've now officially secured your sainthood within the DIY toymaking community. GENIUS!
And official Therapist to those suffering mentally. :)

I know right. I attempt character doodles to his older videos. Great inspiration / motivation.

Thank you so much for sharing this! :) Please email me (thecrafsman AT gmail DOT com) so we can arrange to send y'all a couple extra ones for play!
Crafsman out there doing straight up science! You're doing the steadiest of crafting with this new workflow, glad to see it.
Crafsman, you are equal parts artist, engineer, scientist, and inventor! Great video.
I want to say, I very much appreciate the work that goes into these videos.

In short, I appreciate you, CrafsMan. Very much so.
Please, for all of us. Keep on SteadyCraftin.
Alright.
@@Phantom1356 Thank you sincerely for this.
❤ long time fan. These videos got me through the pandemic and diagnosis of MS. Thank you Crafsman!

This is INSANE! So excited for the possibilities this opens up
My happy place is a Crafsman video!
This is so fun! And hey! It's my Witch Cat Lulu figure in the sofubi gang shot!! ✨😸✨ Thank you so much, Crafsman!
Hey Crafsman the toasted marshmallows look would absolutely lend itself to making replica mini stay puff men from the new ghostbusters movies.
wake up babe, new crafsman video to talk about how well produced it was.
I'm totally behind quicker videos like this one probably was and the sofubi videos have definitely had a very enjoyable quality to them

Another vote of support here for the change in focus going forwards 👍
Wow CrafsMan you just keep taking it to the next level!!
I didn't remember watching this before. I'll probably not remember it this time either. I can't wait to watch again after this!
Got my 1965 Pocketnaut about a week ago and I love it. You are truly an inspiration Crafsman. ❤
You are the real craftsman CrafsMan!! What a legend! ❤
5:15 I had a buddy that made custom mini wheels for RC tractor pulling contests, which I didn’t know existed let alone had a competitive scene.
I learned two things that day.
This series is so interesting and inspiring! Thanks, Crafsman. :)

This has been an awesome series 😊😊😊
Creative genius. Love your channel and love what you do.

Awesome! Thank you for sharing! Congratulations on the 'next stage' of your journey!
“We got a toasted marshmallow” 😁
So cool to see how the testing and development process behind the scenes is going! They look awesome!!!

Still the best ASMR channel
Thanks all your hard work and exploration, very inspiring.
Cant wait to see what you cook up for sale. Will definitely be waiting eagerly.
Always great to see a new CrafsMan video! Thank you for the nice way you packaged my latest Pocketnaut purchases! I love these lil' guys!
Love you Crafsman. You keep me steady craftin!
Great job CrafsMan! Looks like a lot of fun.
Hello Mr Crafsman
Thankyou so very much.
Hey I found your channel informative and educational..
Love the durable mold idea! Definitely going to experiment with some dragon skin
Woo! Yeah! Woo! Yeah!
Can you dust your moulds with mica powder to add colour to your vinyl in spots?
Yes you can! :D I made a metallic version of one of my youngest son's rock characters using mica mixed into the plastisol, along with mica rubbed into/onto the mold's surface to give it a really nice finished sheen. :)
best channel on youtube! :)

HEY CRAFsMAN I noticed you got the Avanco! I love mine!
What a great deal for a professional 1/2 size counter top oven 👌👍
Man this stuff is so inspiring. Now you got me wanting to go find an oven for my garage :p
Thank u for all u do.
Love the Crafsman!!!
Oh boy I love this so much.
LOVE IT! GREAT WORK!
Super neat. I think the burning is also happening because the silicone is too thin at those areas, which are “high points” when you’re painting on the mold. I wonder if you could do a matrix mold with these!
Amazing idea 👍👍
Thank you crafsman !
THIS IS SO EXCITING 🎉
That’s incredible. Great work. Could resin be poured in this kind of mold? With a support, of course.
good ideas! Great job.
Your the best!
Nice exploration! thanks for sharing!
Just do an electrolisis with electro deposited coper mold, would be much easier.
I love this so much!
Man you a hero
Great video love you crafsman!
Love to the craftsman , what is the spining thing you used to paint on the silicone??? Thanks
So interesting ❤
I definitely miss the older videos you would make

Smooth-on dragonskin can be mixed by weight OR volume! Rubbers with a 1:1 A:B ratio can usually be mixed with either unit - or at least as far as I’ve seen!
I think we’re just eyeballing it
Can tin cure silicone be mixed with the copper powder?
I love you crafsman
Awesome
Are you going to make more 5POA action figures?
This craftsmanship is truly amazing! May I ask which type of plastic solvent you used? (Please forgive my poor English. :))
I wonder if hair can be rooted into these vinyl parts, like a doll head is done!
Crafsman, where did you source your plastisol from ?
***Just a thought; Your jacket molds look like they could be used to cast Gummy candy too. "GummyFubi"!
Thank you Crafsman for the video. Well needed for more than you know! ❤
So 1 to 1 to 1 by volume, right?
