- This is my first time to really dig in and use TOY WAX, so let's learn together about why hard wax is usually THE chosen finishing material of professional toy-makers! This video will show you how to make Scott Hensey's DIY toy wax recipe as well!

"Nervousness is part of the human experience." - Crafsman
No one can argue with that. Crafsman is a student of the human condition and a great modern philosopher.
I've never in my life seen this channel, but I'm so unbelievably charmed by this man's accent, voice, and intonation while he speaks and the way he speaks 😂 I just adore it!
Same! it was like asmr for me 🥰
He's really the best. He is entertaining, kind, gives credit to channels he learns from and also very responsive to his fans. I followed him on Pateron for a while and asked him a few questions. He totally got back to me with really thoughtful answers. I love that he has kept his anonymity all this time too. He's 10/10 a real one.
Welcome to SteadyCraftin! 🤣
Welcome to the club my friend
“this might not be orthodox, I’m just learnin’”
this is why we love you.
As a lost wax jewelry casting technician, I clean details on hundreds of wax castings every week. Wax might be new to you, but you are clearly good at transferring your skills from other mediums. It looks like you've been working with wax for months or years, instead of trying it for the first time. Most of our molds at work are for wax injection, instead of pour over, but we do work with a few pour molds. If you ever discover that you need more control over the temperature of the wax in your wax pot, Presto kettle fryers work great and are fairly cheap. We always buy our jewelry wax pre-mixed and it was very interesting to see a formulation made from scratch!
I want to thank you for watching, and for the fantastic encouragement - it means a lot! I always appreciate the extra tips too!
I am a miniatures sculptor. As in like 32 mm scale miniatures. I have most often worked in greenstuff and these kinds of putties. I have also worked with Cernit translucent clay which is about as close as I have found to a compound that has the best qualities of wax and clay and can be baked hard. I have long wanted to work in toy wax as I think I could achieve far superior results with a hard material like toy wax but I have yet to actually make the leap. I think I may actually do that now having seen this video.
Thanks Crafsman. I love your stuff.
Doooeeeettt!
I was only thinking how the thumbnail looked like chocolate, didn't say a word, clicked, and got a Ghirardelli ad. Either google also thought it looked like chocolate or phones are reading our minds.
Honestly, the number of times i vaguely thought about something only for it to pop up somewhere is astounding!
@aquafox8187 the vague thoughts in your head were placed there by the algorithm
they're definitely up to something.
I got a Nutella cookie ad
Those exact measurement pours really buttered my croissant.
Bringing back the old-school art of wax sculpting! I heartily approve. Man, it is gratifying to watch you fill in the holes on the toes with the hot wax tool. Very nice video overall. Cheers!
You’re next! You got this!
Hey, are you okay? You haven't put up a video in awhile and I was getting worried about you. I hope you're doing all right.
@@travisshallenberger9486I'm doing fine, thanks for asking. I've just had to do other things besides TH-cam lately. I'm not sure if it will be permanent or not. : )
@@CajunCraftastrophe Okay. Do what you need to for you and yours. I'm just glad you're doing all right.
@@travisshallenberger9486Thanks, man!
Glad I turned on notifications. His videos get lost in all my other subscriptions and these are treasures
I want to personally thank you for this, because I have noticed a significant drop-off over the past year+. Thank you so much!
@@TheCrafsManBut CrafsMAN! Talcum powder gotten a sinister reputation the last few years and has been removed as an ingredient in all baby and body powders like gold bond hasn't it? I've even seen some of those ambulance chaser class action lawsuits about it!
Random Friday Crafsman video drop?!? Serendipity, baby! xoxo
Lol I love that word "Serendipity"😂
Pop Sculpture: How to Create Action Figures and Collectible Statues is an excellent book! It is very insightful and insanely inspiring! I own 2 of them!
Is it approachable by complete newbies to this hobby, or is it something for someone who's already got some experience?
@@Hexen_Wulf definitely approachable for anyone. Highly recommended
@@Hexen_Wulf Newb friendly! The book is older pre-digital sculpting but makes a great start for DIY. It's part "how to make your prototype sculpture to send to a toy factory" and part artist's portfolio. I don't think it covered mass production. As long as you can make a few simple figures out of clay or sculpy, you should be good.
@@Hexen_Wulf Super newbie friendly! Worth a read!
@@machineman6498 Awesome, I will be checking it out then!
Intro , just bring back those 70s , 80s feels . love it
I'm a big fan of subtractive sculpting, so I've known for awhile I should really try to make the jump to try working with wax but its always seemed so intimidating, but this video actually made it seem rather approachable. I'll actually have too try it now.
👍👍👍
I learned wood carving by first practicing on soap as a child. It was how my grandmother taught us. So wax feels like going home...
You Sir, have a voice for radio!
I have always wondered the why’s and how’s of this wax, but no one has ever really been able to explain it in a way that could hold my attention.
I appreciate the way you teach. Big big big thanks for all of the information that you share and the amount of detail and imagination you put into your videos ❤
Making the world better one video at a time
One of my favorite channels. You are a gift to the world and don't let anyone tell you different. Please keep it up.
The block thing is genius. I think I will do that with my monster clay. I cut big slices off the big block with a cheese cutter.😂
Never leave your heat source unattended is the best thing to learn. I once left soap cooking in my crock pot. Forgot and came back to the floor and my work bench covered in liquid soap concentrate
Bob Ross of toymaking.
Another great video from the Crafsman! Thank you for the shout out to our Wax Lab Guys website and I think you did a really good job of showing all of the possibilities in sculpting wax! Looking forward to seeing more in the future!
Once upon a time I worked in the prototype shop of McFarlane Toys. We called an extremely similar recipe “Hasbro Wax” because one of the the former employees of Hasbro brought the recipe with them.
McFarlane also has their own grades of wax, one that is softer and can be pushed around without heated tools if you’ll have a strong desk lamp shining on it.
And another very hard green wax that was used for the final detailing pass. That stuff shattered when you dropped it.
Hey, Wax Lab Guys here, we'd love to include those recipes on our website if you happen to have them!
💯💯💯💯🙏🙏🙏🙏
I just have to say thank you CrafsMan, you inspired me to get back into sculpting and toy making. My Dad did that kinda thing when he was young and also shared that with me.... so it's something I hold close to my heart. I've learned a lot watching you all while being entertained. I've been watching a long time and while I feel like you're teaching me, you express you're learning too and thats really cool. Anyway, thank you CrafsMan.
Man I love when a Crafsman video shows up that is topical and timely to some project I wanna do. Bless you Crafsman.
I can't describe how excited I get seeing a new craftsman video in my feed ❤
This is giving Bob Ross energy, soothing voice
Your voice is very soothing. I really enjoyed this video and your teaching style. Thank you for the thorough and thoroughly entertaining instructional video!
There’s something really nice about the delivery and pacing of this video. The casual soft spoken narration. A little bit of a Bob Ross vibe, but still distinctly your own. Well done!
I had no idea toy making was this complex and interesting. I feel like this series has taken me into a whole new world and it is so fascinating!!
Came here to say this!
Tackling the nerves is tricky business. Encouraging to know you deal with it, too. Thanks for the valuable lessons.
Ahhhhh, I’m all relaxed now and ready for the afternoon. Thank you Crafsman! I love to watch you work❤️🤗🐝
As aways the CrafsMan delivers equal parts crafting technique, materials knowledge, and wisdom. Thank you CrafsMan 💜
Bob Ross of wax sculpting. Love it
great production value, quality Crafsmanship, and amazing voice. how does this guy not have millions of subs??
The style, humour and knowledge shared in this channel is making it one of my favourites. Thank you sir.
Oh my goodness. The TH-cam algorithm has sent me here, and it’s serendipity, because I’ve been struggling with wax casting in silicone molds! Thank you SO MUCH, it’s been very frustrating. You have a really nice voice, too!
Your channel is the most Calming and Entertaining channel that I’ve had the pleasure of watching!! You voice is so soothing to hear and the way you explain things makes it easy for us to get without having to feel like we don’t know what you talking about ! I found myself giggling every now and then ! Thank You , Sending You and Your Family Love, Light , Healing Energy and Prayers .. from Miami Beach Fl!
What a beautiful voice. I could listen to this all day except I would probably end up curling up on a sofa with a sweater, all tuckered out!
The Bob Ross of sculpting?
I encourage everyone to look back on some of the older videos and compare the production quality between then and now. CrafsMan has come a long way! Keep on steady craftin'.
Your voice is so relaxing.
I just love you Crafsman! ❤️
mah dude out here being the bob ross of sculpting
I know everything is shared digitally now a days but what a great way to send another person or company a mold of something.
You should cast a bunch of 'rods' like thin crayons, then you can use them like welding rods or tig welding.
God bless your talents! Praying for you and yours.
Just discovered my new favorite bedtime TH-cam channel. Your voice is very comforting, and you're incredibly skilled. I can't wait to watch more of your channel!
That final wax kitty is so shiny i can see my reflection in it!
Finally getting around to watching this one, Crafsman! The fact that you're not going to mess up fine details just by handling it is really cool. My experience with wax is literally just handling candles and doing the hand-dipping thing at local fairs, so it's really interesting to see waxes that are extra resilient.
i'm new to this channel. i came for the sculpting and was met the most soothing voice i've ever heard on youtube! you sound the way a warm blanket feels. it's a gift. ❤
I haven't tried wax before... I might have to now
Crafs Man. You really are the best. Used to listen to these like Bob Ross videos to mellow out before sleep, but now I'm steady craftin'. Just made a mask mold last week.
My toddler loves your videos. Lol❤
Perfect for a rainy day!
your voice is mesmerizing and relaxing - also love your artistic style! Appreciate you and the knowledge you shared. God Bless!
crafsman i can't stop thinking about making a sofubi. thanks!
I usually watch videos 2x speed because I'm insane but I love watching CrafsMan, normal speed, lights low, volume low, and just sit, relax and enjoy the show and art. I know that sounds like a paid promotion but I love this channel
What a well done video, Crafsman. Beautifully edited, the flow was mesmerizing, the colors you choose make for a riveting watch. Of course your iconic voice is a huge factor as well. Your content, clearly, is so relevant to so many people. An excellent teacher. Thank you thank you thank you! Best video on so many levels I’ve seen on the internet in some time! Maybe the all time best!
Legitimately accidentally asmr ❤ This is such a beautiful video! The sounds, your voice, the wit, the craffffs!!!!!!!! 😊
One of my friends I had as a kid had a diy hot wheels set. You heated up wax and poured it into molds and then put axels with wheels in the wax so they could roll as they set.
Great Video👍🏻 I made a big batch of wax using Scott’s recipe about 8 years ago. It was an investment but I’m still using it.
I was googling sculpting wax last night. Good timing for this drop
Love watching this kitty progress!
Loved the video, thank you for it, it really brightened my day.
I personally don't have a specific fondness for toys or any desire to make them, but seeing you share your passion so earnestly is infectious, and it makes me look at toys in a very different way from before.
I've been a dental technician for 20 years. Lately, most things are done digitally and milled, but for many years (and occasionally still) we use the exact same materials for making teeth. Thanks for providing a recipe! I'm gonna definitely make a batch!
Happy to see you are using the respirator!
I’ve been waiting for a video from the Crafsman. I thought he done left us and then he drops this gem on us. ❤🎉
Excellent video Mr. Crafsman
Crafsmama knows things!!! That book definitely looks like an awesome resource. The sculpt is looking awesome, can’t wait to see how it progresses!!!
been doing it like this for a while now, glad to see it
I’m so glad you showed up on my main feed again ❤
Every time I see a new video of yours is available I feel warm and fuzzy inside :)
how cool! ive seen wax toy sculpts before but never questioned why wax was the medium. you learn something new all the time
How have I never seen your videos? Immediate subscription
Thank you Craftsman awesome video as always and very informative!
TheCrafsMan has the synth JAMS!!! Love your videos!
I only subscribe to 5 channels, and this one is in my top 2. Love everything you do. Thank you, Dr Crafsman.
Bought a couple of stickers, a steady craftin pin, and a pocket naught and it came with a free packet of creole seasoning. 10/10 would buy again.
Love you, Crafsman! Thanks for all your hard work. God bless you.
Let’s go!!!! I love Crafsman videos!!!
Oh boy what a day. Just came home from work and I’m about to see a crafman video while doing some crafting myself
I am so excited for all the art toys your going to make. I need new ones to go with Agua
You are the best of good people
CRAFS-MAN! AHHHHHHH! I'm shocked this video has less than 100k views and 400 comments at this point. You're a legend! God bless!
I rly enjoy the progresion of this concept. I rly hope you bring it all the way to the end :)
I really like the warm appearance of these wax toys when they're buffed to a shine.
Craftsman your so inspirational and with your videos i learned how to make action figures and molds and you single handidly helped shape my current career thank you 🤝
Thank you Crafsman! Wax is one of my favorite mediums, and I'm always interested in recipes I've never heard of.
Thank you so much for this Crafsman! I've been wanting to do this but ive been very intimidated by it. Your channel continues to be the best on TH-cam for learning how to make your own toys the old school way. Much love and respect!
Your voice is so lovely and soothing 🫶💗
Another great tutorial from the Crafsman.
Your videos are always encouraging. Really enjoyed watching this process!
Another awesome video Crafsman!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experimentation with new things.
Keep on with the steady craftin. 😉👍
This is the video I needed today.
I'm not sure why you popped up in my feed, but I'm Really glad you did ❤😁
This fed my creative soul and made my day! 💚
I love AZBRO wax.
Always love to watch your videos.
Thanks for what you do.
Man, I really enjoyed this video. It was a good tutorial and you have a great demeanor for teaching.
