      Got some good BAD CGI to react to: Steven Seagal's Code Of Honor... it's all bad BUT specifically the final fight scene 1) jumping through the skylight 2) the helicopter and the force ghosts on it and 3) the explosion EDIT: ACTUALLY DO A WHOLE EPISODE OF JUST SEAGAL MOVIES BECAUSE IT WOULD BE AWESOME *2nd EDIT: AND ALSO DO A WHOLE STUNTMEN REACT EPISODE TO THOSE MOVIES TOO

    I watched Night at the Museum again with my family recently, and I was surprised with how well the VFX hold up, there are several places where I’m not sure how much of what I’m seeing is CGI and how much is real. Could you take a look?

    I'd love a whole episode on "hidden effects", talking all about CGI used in movies and TV that you wouldn't expect. We all know there's a ton of CG in Dune, Harry Potter, LOTR, etc., but there's also a ton of VFX used in shows like Shameless or Ted Lasso that you wouldn't expect.

      I've been watching The Gilded Age, set in 1880's NYC, and you *know* they couldn't have built an entire city on a studio lot so it's fascinating to try pick how far back the practical sets go before they CG in additional background buildings. Half the outdoor scenes I'm ignoring the story to squint at the most distant extra I can see walking around and whatever shadows they're casting on nearby walls and surfaces.

    Under The Skin with Scarlet Johansson has some pretty interesting and creepy shots that are worth looking at. The shots of people walking into a dark liquid and decaying, the way they filmed her stalking men in a van, the VFX shots towards the end.

      Still hate how they butchered the insane events from the book in the film. They flat out replaced the horrific alien-consuming events with a weird artsy drowning in black-goo scenes. The entire book is extremely graphic and to replace all that with a garbage "artistic perspective" ruined the entire concept.

      It won't be possible to do a breakdown until 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' is released on streaming, months down the line.
      And even then, they'll probably wait an extra couple of months to pass, for enough people to have watched it for it to generate a solid buzz.
      So, try asking for it again, say, 5-6 months later. Perhaps then, they'll seriously consider it.

    I've actually genuinely been putting a lot of thought into recommendations for you guys since you started this series and here's what I've come up with: Fractals. What am I talking about? Computer-generated landscapes using fractal technology. Famously that's what they used in 'Genesis Simulation' sequence in Star Trek II and it was groundbreaking. But I loved the episode you guys have done where you've attempted to recreate 'classical' CGI using modern technology and it just seems like a great challenge. Can you recreate the incredible fractal landscape from Star Trek II using modern software? Other points of interest aren't movies but Rescue of Fractalis and Lair both used fractal processing under the hood in ways that were extremely impressive for their time. Don't need nothing but a hearty thank you. Also I just love when you look at old analog effects so would love to see you talk about good and bad matte painting over the years, maybe Dykstraflex & computer-controlled multipass miniatures filming in general, or a "retro" episode with like pre-70s effects movies like Fantastic Voyage, Forbidden Planet, Journey to the Centre of the Earth & War of the Worlds. I think everyone talks about (the very awesome) Ray Harryhausen but I think it over shadows some other optical achievements of that time. Or the silent films of Fritz Lang (his german films are basically all effects heavy science fiction or fantasy) especially the launch sequence in Frau im Mond. Peace

    The *last agni kai fight from ATLA* would be perfect for for the Animators React. It's so stunning!
    For the VFX series you gotta react to *Aslan from the Chronicles of Narnia!* Also at the end of second one there's a big water creature, so it might be cool to see what you think about that. Maybe also, Max Schneider's Gibberish music video, the editing kinda breaks my brain there.
    And for stuntmen react It would be cool to see you react to the duel from "Potop", it's really good sword fight (tho technically it's sabers i think)

      The 4K one some of the textures and stuff do look better, but the whole "cinematic" (literal) feel is way off due to the 60 frames thing.

    • @PilotPhteven
      @PilotPhteven 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure I'd compare it to a painting... With a painting, even if I don't understand the concept, I can still enjoy the painting as a whole. The use of colour, the shapes, brushstrokes,, etc. A painting isn't necessarily there to tell a story.
      A movie, is of course also a form of art. But in the end it is a medium used to tell a story, that's the purpose, that's kinda the point of the medium.. And it's not great if it fails to do so.
      Sure.. I can look at pretty VFX, or hear nice music. But they are also there to tell the story.
      It just seems like an opportunity to alienate it's audience and embrace content that only Nolan could understand and enjoy. To then be the snobby guy who stands next to a blank white painting to say to everyone that walks by that "they just don't understand" ..
      They're adding a complex story for the sake of it being complex. Difficult for the sake of being difficult.
      Obviously there is nothing wrong with having to think because of a movie. But if you need 2-3 rewatches and a diagram and guides just to make sense of it all, the story telling probably could have been improved.

    Please take a look at the young Jon De Lancie in Star Trek Picard! The de-aging they did there compared to the rest of the effects was TOP LEVEL. Lip movement and all

    If you have any plans for future "Animators React" videos, Arcane would be a great show to examine. Love the work.

      @@esaedvik Not gonna argue with that, I got problems with Rito too, but don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Fortiche did incredible work on Arcane and deserves the praise.

    You guys should definitely do a breakdown of Superman and Lois’s CGI, it’s amazing for a tv show budget on the CW, and a spinoff of supergirl!

    Every time you ask for suggestions I think a special "Slow mo Guys React" would be really fun. Get Gav and/or Dan in and talk about famous slow mo shots from movies and TV, eg: Dredd, The big 360 explosion in Swordfish, Korn's Freak on a leash music video and perhaps his work on Sherlock Holmes!

    I want to see an Animators React video to the early CGI animated shows from the 90s, like Reboot and Beast Wars!!

    Please do the Halo tv series as I would love to know what they could have done to fix some of their shots whilst also seeing what they did well

    • @AbsoluteTravisT
      @AbsoluteTravisT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Halo is such a weird show where more than half of it is big epic stuff like Foundation and Game of Thrones, but then there are just *so* many shots that make it feel like an expensive TH-cam video. The Elites are obviously really well done but then something to do with the costuming or the cameras makes the Spartans look like cosplayers.

    • @littleshopofrandom685
      @littleshopofrandom685 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AbsoluteTravisT Spartans were suits, which unfortunately limited them a bit to real human motion and the practical limits of that kind of suit. Of course when the practical stuff looks a bit off, it gets called bad CG and when vfx fixes it its called good props.
      But I'm not bitter.
      Nope.
      Not me.

      So much of that was done at sea on a real ship, which is a budgeting nightmare. It was such a great movie that I feel got tragically overshadowed by Pirates of the Caribbean.

    Y’all should have a point system that keeps tally each video starting whenever you want, if you guess the effect and how they did it right or close enough to right (the others will be the judge if it close)and if you get it right you get 1 point. Winner at the end of the year wins and it starts over each year. Or month 🤷🏻‍♂️
