It's explained better in the book, they did want Finnick to be a bigger part of the revolution, but after he found out about Annie and Johanna being captured he was really depressed and rarely got out of bed (much like Katniss's mother after her father died).
I didn't read it as depressed - more like in a constant panic & freeze-state -> "They are happy if he stays awake longer then 10 minutes without medication". he is highly traumatised "and waking up doesn't give any calming"
No no no no no no he was not depressed... He had fully dissociated from reality. It doesn't seem like there's a difference but believe me there is a massive difference
I was hoping that somebody else would have explained this. In the books, it’s very clear that Gale is absolutely not Katniss’s boyfriend. He’s her best friend and a hunting partner necessary for survival. She cares about him, but like family. She also wasn’t aware that Peeta’s feelings were real. She thought that he was a better actor than her .
I think it's because it was from her point of view - she didn't see him as a boyfriend. Gale totally fancied Katniss in the book. and thought Peeta was faking it. she just didn't see either of their feelings or think anyone would love her. it was harder in the films to show that as there was no inner monologue.
Wdym?? It was much more nuanced in the books. She repeatedly ping ponged back and forth between them and in the middle of book two, definitely had feelings for Gale. As in, she literally kissed him when he is unconscious, regrets multiple times that they can’t be together due to their circumstances, see the lake scene…I’m not a big fan of Gale as I think Peeta is a far healthier partner for Katniss but this comment is incorrect 🤔
@@dropinarteKatnis didn't have romantic feelings for him. In the beginning, she was resigned to the possibility of them getting married, but she didn't regret them not being together. It was her choice to not date Gale. They wanted different things (he wanted kids. She didn't). In the second book, Gale got it right when he basically told her that she only responds to him romantically out of a sense thinking that that is what he wants or what others expect of her. Her relationship with Gale had an air of "she can eventually grow to love him".
She loved him, but she is so closed for her trauma that she isn´t able to understand herself for me it´s clear that they were right to each other but the games and war change them so much that is no longer true.
@@proudbibliophileI agree, but I can see how it would be easier to see the nuances if ur coming from the pov of being grown enough to have had a similar relationship. ❤
i wanna add that seneca giving katniss such a high score in the first movie, while also being stupid for himself, did put a target on katniss' back. i cant remember if the movies or books made it very explicit, but i felt like it was a "punishment" for shooting that arrow towards seneca&co; the career pack would probably not have cared to hunt her specifically (as they recruited peeta to help them do) if not for the high score
They do let her know that she’s now a target, I remember! Haymitch is both impressed by her defiance and skill, and defeated at how her high score effects her running in the games and I believe they also tell/show the other (mostly career) tributes side-eyeing her afterwards At first they were pissy the girl on fire stole their spotlight at the introduction ceremony but now they’re pissed at her
I'm I the only one that liked Mocking Jay part 1? It's such a good movie, I don't think I would have felt Katniss emotional turmoil if they had tried to put all that in just one movie.
Thank you! I loved Part One. I think you have to be a fan of the books to understand how much Katniss was broken at that point to really get the movie. I also wish they had kept the stylists locked up in the basement and her ever-growing suspicion of Coin.
Mocking Jay Part 1 is also my favorite from the four (now, five) movies. It shows, through Katniss’ experience, the depth of a person’s suffering while undergoing grief. A cathartic viewing, I’ve been able to draw strength from its dramatic scenes.
51:59 For anyone with the same question, Effie explains in the first book when Katniss volunteers that it’s customary to let both of the tributes be picked first before anyone can volunteer. Katniss also explains that she didn’t think anyone at the reaping even remembered this tradition since no one in district 12 volunteers anyways. Plus everyone at the reaping just wanted it done and over with, that’s why no one stopped her. So there are rules/traditions but people in districts like 12 couldn’t care less about them.
I think one of the reasons for the success of the books and the movies is how accessible they are, which is a massive credit to Suzanne Collins. The books were written for teen audiences meaning that the themes and messages had to be presented in a way that would not only allow younger people to understand what was being conveyed, but anyone who may not be versed on such topics. The books and movies successfully introduced very messy and complex topics such as fascism and propaganda to people in a way that wasn't so far removed from reality enabling them to look at the world around them and look at the information they were being presented under a more critical lens. I was a teen when the books and movies came out and I vividly remember how they changed my perspectives on how I understood and consumed media, along with a better understanding on how governments can exploit their people and power. I really think that the Hunger Games books are a modern classic and believe that they are an important series for people to read, especially in this day and age.
I really wish they included Katniss’s stylists, Madge, greasy sae, the other Avoxes, some of the more known and friendly peacekeepers from 12 before the first hunger games. Katniss’s stylists were crucial at accidentally revealing to Katniss which districts were rebelling with the shortages and who were also supposed to be tortured to show that district 13 was also cruel. Madge, greasy sae, the friendlier peacekeepers, some of the other minor characters seen helped provide a sense of a larger community in district 12 that is kind of muted in the movies. Madge herself was a key character who handed Katniss the mockingjay pin who was hated by gale for being richer and shows his unwavering anger. Greasy sae was a big reason Katniss was able to survive her PTSD because she kept cooking and cleaning for her when she returned to district 12 after the war. The friendlier peacekeepers from district 12 helped paint the picture that district 12 was so forgotten for that the capitol didn’t even care to enforce rules as strictly there which allowed for Katniss the freedom to hunt despite it being illegal. they also toned down the general paranoia of the government constantly watching them, the sexualization of minors and the sexual abuse victors often faced afterwards, haymitch’s games, the more violent aspects of panem. I still liked the movies though and they introduced things that weren’t in the books but I still prefer some of the things in the books.
I agree with everything you said, but especially the stylists. They add so much to the story. They're our window into the Capitol and are integral to helping Katniss remember who the real enemy is by the end of the books.
I love the opening of the first movie for one more reason. When you watch it for the first time, you think you know what's gonna happen. Katniss and Gale will be picked and the two "lovers" will be forced to fight one another. And then Katniss gonna win. But then... everything just goes completely of the rail. This is very important, because it tells you that this easy to predict movie isn't so predictible after all, so there's more suspense when you watch the rest of the movie.
Cool fact: The reaction from Jennifer Lawrence in the elevator scene was genuine because she was sick when they first rehearsed the scene. So when she came back to set to film she had no idea Jenna Malone would remove her clothes 😂😂
I'm shocked that this video didn't even break 1000 views. It's one of the most in-depth and well-researched videos on the Hunger Games movies on TH-cam, and deserves so much more attention. Not only did you analyze the movies themselves but even the promotional material and behind-the-scenes segments to understand just how these movies were brought to life and how they made such an impact in the early 2010's. The only thing that would have made this video even better was if you had read the Hunger Games books and compared how certain scenes and plot points were changed from the source material. I know that this video is supposed to focus on the movies rather than the books, but I think it would have been a good idea to analyze them as adaptations of the novels rather than just a standalone series, especially since there were several changes made from the novels, some for the better and some for the worse. For instance, when you mentioned "Peeta was on fire too", asking why the audience only latched onto Katniss as "The Girl on Fire" when she and Peeta both had fiery costumes, it was because Book Katniss isn't as stoic as Movie Katniss. Katniss in the books is still introverted and lacks social skills, but in a more shy, socially anxious sort of way than a stone-faced, "I don't care about my image" sort of way that Jennifer Lawrence portrayed her as. She understood that she needed to appeal to the audience to earn sponsors even if she didn't like pretending to be charismatic. In the opening ceremony, rather than just stand with a blank expression, she smiled and waved at the audience and even blew a kiss at someone who threw a flower at her. People loved her before they even heard her speak, while Peeta only managed to do so after showcasing his wittiness and charm during the interviews with Caesar Flickerman. This is just one of many small changes the movie made from the books and knowing what was changed helps to understand something that wouldn't make sense without the context of the original. Anyway, great video. You deserve way more views.
I'm just watching the video now and I found it weird he's saying any of the movies made less than a million. Unless the budget was under $20,000.. Less than a million isn't much lol
I think that the romance thing was actually very well done aswell for a teenage movie, it really felt like Katniss and Peeta overtime fell in love because of experiencing soo much together and thats how it often works in real life aswell
I think if there’s anyone of the actresses who tried out for Katniss i would of been ok with Hailee Steinfeld but Jennifer Lawrence hands down slayed the role
I didn't think it was Prims grave, just that he was trying to add some life and beauty back into what was once their home and a reminder of what was lost. Although if that is indeed where Prim is resting, it just makes it even more sweet of Peeta to plant those for her.
Oops! Ya those should all be in millions. I must have made a mistake while transcribing the figures. Thanks for the comment and I am glad you liked the video!
Just dropping in to say that i totally agree with you that Catching Fire is the best film of the series. It's an extremely rare instance in which the sequel is just as good or better than the first.
You deserve so much more subscribers and views! You’re in depth explanation with a sprinkle of humor (rueneral) is so on point LOL. I work at a movie theater and being there when these films premiered is an experience I will always remember. I was a fan of the books before the films and you damn well know I braided my hair to the side as I watched these masterpieces! 😂 No one talks about it but I think these movies definitely did their best interpretation of the books compared to more recent adaptations *cough cough*

I’ve never seen something like that and film and it’s so powerful to me, that’s my payoff for that movie
So good... Love a good HG deep dive!! I know we're getting a new book from the 50th games, but I would love a book written from Peeta's perspective. I'm just so curious about his inner monologue through a lot of these scenes. Katniss is a great heroine in part because she is so flawed... girl has no rizz. lol. and he has to see that, and figure out a way to make people like her. It's so smart and I feel like he gets a lot of credit for being wholesome, but he's also really cunning and we miss that without hearing what he's thinking.
These will always be my all time favorite movies, I just remember when I was 11 how engrossed in the world I was. They also taught me a lot about oppression and rebellion.
Honestly I agree with most of your points except the careers. I think they are aware of how terrible it all is but they are keeping younger children safe by volunteering after years of training and being basically adults. That’s the pride they have, keeping the weakest of their families and community safer
Why does nobody talk about how the "rabid dogs" in the books had traits of the dead tributes?! Or how the Mockingjay pin was given to Katniss by her friend who was the mayors daughter?
Tbh I am not a fan of how they portrayed the Prim's death. Wasn't Katniss supposed to be badly burnt? And the way the emotions was conveyed in the book showed that she held on to Prim's body trying to save her till she had to let her go
1:40:45 That's probably my biggest gripe with Mockinjay Part 2. In the books, they disguise themselves very well amongst the wealthy Capital refugees. They use the fur clothes of Tigress's (which especially makes sense for the weather), wigs, and excessive (but fittingly so for the Capital) makeup (also provided and put together by Tigress, which makes sense because she was a Stylist for the hunger games) to blend in with the crowd. That's why it was such a big deal the little girl recognized her. Her and Gale were very well disguised. So it drives me a bit bananas that they just threw cloaks and hoods over their heads in the movies. Tigress was RIGHT THERE.
Idk why but i actually died laughing at the gag about president snow being racist with the cut to him saying white is perfection. I love the jokes sprinkled into this very in depth analysis. Great work

26:33 in the books Glimmer actually was the guard while the others slept if I recall correctly. She had simply dozed off on the job, is all. Leading to her own end.
I'm probably the opposite of the target demographic of HG, but I LOVE the entire saga. I've read the series twice and I watch the movies every 12-18 months or so. I even love the prequel (book and movie). It's storytelling at its best, and the movies are no expense spared extravaganzas.....
I love this so much. New fan to the channel. I hope you do these kind of deep dives into other series’. I love the intercut memes and jokes and references to what was happening on the other side of the camera as well! Amazing video!! ❤
I'm actually looking forward to seeing if the new prequel will draw inspiration from real world events over the last few years, and work it into the story. For example, wouldn't it be interesting to see how they handle trans and non-binary citizens during reapings, given how controversial the Olympics have been? Or maybe they will more blatantly highlight AI technology or allude to real world weather calamities or politics. Or maybe they could include revisionist history so people don't realize there are other nations in the world, could really open up the lore. I started rereading the series after I found out about the prequel.
My biggest issue with this movie is they get married, have kids, and live happily ever after…. Or so we’re lead to believe that. This is modern day shiit of Cinderella being found by Prince Charming and they live happily ever after. Old school Disney bs is better than this. They’d likely have PTSD, be SOOOOOO FAMOUS that they wouldn’t be to live a normal life: lack of respect for their privacy (something we regularly hear famous people, especially newly famous), trust issues (not just bc he’d been programmed to kill her but the chic that wanted to rule wasn’t really any better and had lied & manipulated everyone to get revenge and power), so much death seen and bc of you (they were fighting to be free but still…) especially those closer to you. All too often the people are sick and tired of being sick and tired. Lied to and used up however the powerful feel to use the people. REVOLUTION! Then what? People don’t usually think beyond that and the leaders that survived take over but they don’t know how to do all the admin part PLUS they often fear losing their new found power and money. They often become just as corrupt and often more useless because they can’t even balance a personal check book so the new system bankrupts fairly quickly and things become even worse than before They could’ve still gave all the “bad guys” they comeuppance…killed ‘em, shunned & exiled to some place horrible, or just regular shiitty prison for life, idk, whatever. Then show everyone else just picking up the pieces figuratively and literally. If they gotta show “and they lived happily ever after” …. The person should be dreaming, living in looney bin, or last but not least, they’re having a discussion and sharing how they feel and what they hope the future gonna be
And then Jennifer Lawrence torpedoed her own career by assuming that the Hunger Games movies started the "female action hero thing" with _her._ Ignorig the facts that they were Ellen Ripley, Cleopatra Jones, Princess Leia Organa, the chick from Kill Bill, etc. long, long before her. And Amandla Stenberg, who played Rue, turned the Star Wars fandom against her with that bonkers Dis-track she made. The only movie star that exist today is Keanu Reeves, who doesn't let the fame get into his head. He's kind, genuine, polite towards everyone.
First of all, they were talking about the "nothing says perfection like white" quote, which taken out of context does sound racist. Second of all, it was a joke. Lastly, how does any of this make them racist?
I've read the books. The movies are actually incredibly faithful. The 1st one deviated the most, particularly with the monsters not being the deceased Tributes at the end, but aside from that the movies were still excellent adaptations. In fact, I would argue that the last film is TOO similar. I wanted Katniss to have a moment with Prim like she did with Rue before she died. However, the fact that they went with the book version of Prim's death, with no last words between the sisters, shows that the filmmakers really wanted to do Suzanne Collins' books properly.
its not really their fault. just a quirk of the medium, ya know? The movies really do lose a lot of nuance when you can't hear katniss's internal monologue. tho they take advantage of the strengths of the medium and show us a broader picture with the cuts to the watching audience and the behind the scenes gamemaker stuff. i really think theyre at their best when both taken together, ya know? that way you get both perspectives.

“Rueneral” made me cackle laugh so hard I thought my neighbors would call the cops 💀😂
Reading "The Hunger Games" trilogy was traumatizing to me. 😣
1:13:10 - It killed Divergent, because the studio pulled the plug after part 1.
Idk why but i actually died laughing at the gag about president snow being racist with the cut to him saying white is perfection. I love the jokes sprinkled into this very in depth analysis. Great work
FYI, it's millions of dollars. Not thousands.
Dude you’re vids are the best! Can’t believe you only have 11k subs! I would love to see some prediction videos from you. Maybe for stranger things s5 and outer banks! Wednesday too If you’ve seen it!!
I think you mean millions of dollars at the box office, not thousands /.\
26:33 in the books Glimmer actually was the guard while the others slept if I recall correctly. She had simply dozed off on the job, is all. Leading to her own end.
I'm probably the opposite of the target demographic of HG, but I LOVE the entire saga. I've read the series twice and I watch the movies every 12-18 months or so. I even love the prequel (book and movie). It's storytelling at its best, and the movies are no expense spared extravaganzas.....
Peeta ''Bread'' Mellark. Dont know why, but this got me so hard. LOL
I can't believe Hunger Games only made $695,000 at the box office.
It actually made 695 million but the TH-camr got it wrong
I love this so much. New fan to the channel. I hope you do these kind of deep dives into other series’. I love the intercut memes and jokes and references to what was happening on the other side of the camera as well! Amazing video!! ❤
OBSIDIOTS BAD LIP READING MENTION i still have the whole song memorised
Choo Choo Go went triple platinum in my friend group in 2014
Little disappointed that Tigris was just called a Furry and that was it, as she is Snows cousin.
oh my god i wouldve loved if the role of Katniss went to Chloe Grace Moretz
Its because the most famous TH-camr was in the third movie
I feel that Jennifer Lawrence has become underrated.
Wait Jennifer lawrence is a natural blond?
I'm actually looking forward to seeing if the new prequel will draw inspiration from real world events over the last few years, and work it into the story.
For example, wouldn't it be interesting to see how they handle trans and non-binary citizens during reapings, given how controversial the Olympics have been? Or maybe they will more blatantly highlight AI technology or allude to real world weather calamities or politics. Or maybe they could include revisionist history so people don't realize there are other nations in the world, could really open up the lore. I started rereading the series after I found out about the prequel.
I love Jennifer Lawrence, but Hailee Seinfeld asKatniss would have killed 😭
Starving games is a fucking modern masterpiece argue with a brick wall
Nice video
Great Comment!!
10:35 well this didn’t age well now did it
lmao
😂 took me a minute but this was solid.
The 1st Hunger Game made wayyyyyyyy more than $690K LOL
Rue-neral?????????????? Omfg
1:39:18 bro
No one got your "hundred thousand dollars" lol
They often become just as corrupt and often more useless because they can’t even balance a personal check book so the new system bankrupts fairly quickly and things become even worse than before
They could’ve still gave all the “bad guys” they comeuppance…killed ‘em, shunned & exiled to some place horrible, or just regular shiitty prison for life, idk, whatever. Then show everyone else just picking up the pieces figuratively and literally. If they gotta show “and they lived happily ever after” …. The person should be dreaming, living in looney bin, or last but not least, they’re having a discussion and sharing how they feel and what they hope the future gonna be
bro all you did was re-tell the movies, barely any analysis or any new and unique content in this video, is this genuinely written by ai lmao
Shoot Coin you getting it wrong most beautiful every time. You being played against each other. 🍒❤️🐑🐑❤️🍒🍒💋❤️🐑💋🍒💋
I had to quit watching this after you repeatedly misquoted the amounts earned by each of these films. You don't have your facts straight.
Lies. It's an obv rip off of Battle Royal.
Hunger Games is USA land Squat not legal ocupation of the land of USA. 🐑💋🍒🍒❤️🐑🐑❤️💋🍒
That's so silly to say the white roses are racist it just shows your own racism.
First of all, they were talking about the "nothing says perfection like white" quote, which taken out of context does sound racist. Second of all, it was a joke. Lastly, how does any of this make them racist?
✨Comedy✨
The movies are trash compared to the books
No
I've read the books.
27:33 “Rueneral” fucking killed me
Lenny Kravitz also was an amazing Cinna 7:02
This is an insanely good video, it's shocking it doesn't have more views, you really deserve it 🫶🫶
