Hey there 👋🏾 I noticed 2 slightly incorrect things in this video 1. At 7:20 you meant to say 67th Hunger Games instead of 76th 2. At 8:45 you said Haymitch threw himself off the cliff, he actually didn't, he threw a large/medium sized rock off of it and it bounced backed to him. I'm only saying this because if he threw his entire body down the cliff he would have died on Impact because that's what happened to Blight in Catching Fire. I just thought I'd mention these 2 things.
Thank you for this video! As a massive fan of the Hunger Games I often wondered what a map of Panem would look like. I guess the one you mention on here is officially canon? I’m in TX . Sooo…That puts me in District 10…yay? I hope we get to see more HG movies where we get to see more of the districts
I always interpreted behaviours like Enobaria killing another tribute with her teeth and Titus resorting to cannibalism in the arena as extreme acts of survival rather than evil, proving how dehumanising the games truly were for the tributes. But while Enobaria’s extreme methods were acclaimed by the Capitol citizens and the game makers because of shock value, Titus’ reminded them of a time when, starved and nearing death, capitol citizens themselves had resorted to cannibalism in order not to perish to hunger. It’s just an interpretation, but it really puts Titus’ character into perspective…
very much agree! esp. in refrence to why the capital loved enobaria but not titus; cannibalism was too fresh a wound and much to real to them, where as ripping throats out with your teeth is a very movie-like thing to happen. its gory but its theatrical!
Tbh it feels very clear in the books that the act was pure desperation, and the capital forced that moment on her to the point of fully breaking her. Katniss was told that cinna saved her from plastic surgery after she was taken from the arena. Enobaria just wasn’t as fortunate. Like finnik, she was brutalized. Unlike finnick, it seems she lacked a lifeline, or sense of hope, or community.
Seeing how the capitol treated 12 after the 10th hunger games, shows that snow had a failed relationship when he was 18 and made it everyones problem for the next 64 years 💀
@@thegirlwitheeyes1232 That doesn't change the trilogy plot though. Snow has no real reason to give them preferential or any different treatment when he becomes President. He had a connection with Lucy Gray, and I doubt he cared that much about District 12's citizens before or after she disappeared until Katniss came along who reminded him of Lucy Gray. He disliked Katniss because she had the same traits as Lucy Gray since, from a president standpoint, what she was doing would cause another war between the capitol and the districts. His main concern throughout the trilogy is that Katniss would disrupt the system and cause another rebellion.
I wish the movies had included that Katniss got her mockingjay pin from District 12's mayor's daughter, Madge, who is basically Katniss's only friend aside from Gale. This mainly bugs me because there's no way anyone in The Hob would give away anything for free!
i agree! but then again katniss does state in the books she’s respected due to her father and a lot more people was generous around reaping time so i guess they used that plot
And the fact that Madge’s mother lost her twin sister in the Games, too, and suffered debilitating migraines (PTSD) forever after. I can’t remember if it was Madge or her mother who sent the morphline to help Gale in CF.
Same, I'm just now reading the books, and I thought it was way more significant that it was a gift from her district and not something she found in a pile of junk. I also thought it was weird that they made it seem like a secret thing she took into the games instead of the one district token they're all allowed to have.
Finnick has the saddest fate for me. Not only does he not survive, his romance back in 4 is in stark contrast to his public persona, which - just like Peeta's and Katniss' is an illusion he put on to survive. His false personality is that of an incurable flirt with many many sexual partners. Even Katniss believes this at first. In reality, this was entirely at the behest of Snow. Finnick's' "Victory Tours" involved being forced into sexual relationships with dozens of Capital residents who paid Snow handsomely for the pleasure, which happened multiple times every time he visited the capital. Although Finnick was able to use this to obtain blackmail material and secret information that was of use to the Rebellion, it was a horrible affair that started when he was still 14 in his state as *the youngest victor ever*. The most fucked up thing is that when he reads out his Poem to his "One true love", plenty of his *former rapists* genuinely and sincerely think he's talking about them. The creeps.
That's so sad. Men can be r*-worded too. There really needs to be more people to know that anyone can be victims as well as perpetrators. We are all people capable of good and evil. We can be victims and abusers. Being a horrible person is a gender neutral thing because anyone can be one.
@@Shapoufiiie Youd be surprised how many places rigidly define rape as solely the Penial Penetration of a Vagina. In New York for example, a man or boy couldn't be found to have been raped at all. It's a distinction that has allowed a few absolute monsters to he 'Aquitted' of Rape and "Only" charged the supposedlu lesser crime of sexually assault. They carry the same maximum penalty, but there no shortage of psychos who will spin it as a victory. There was a high profile case recently where the judge cleared a man of the legal charge of rape, whilst acknowledging it wasn't slander to call him a rapist because the term 'Rapist' meant something different to the narrow definition the law had.
You forgot to mention District 11s victors, Seeder and Chaff. They were both on the rebels side, friends with Haymitch, mentors to Rue and Thresh, but died in the 75th Hunger Games.
Capitol - Bureacracy District 1 - Luxury goods District 2 - Masonry, military, (the nut) District 3 - Technology/Factories District 4 - Fishing District 5 - Electric, solar, nuclear District 6 - Transportation District 7 - Lumber & paper District 8 - Textiles District 9 - Grain District 10 - Livestock District 11 - Agriculture District 12 - Coal Distrcit 13 - Graphite (secretly nuclear weapons)
Textiles makes no sense. Should be with the animal products. Unless the entire land is just cotton farms, but they can spread that out to 11, 12, and 9 as well. It is real easy to grow cotton, really easy. And call it "supplementary" work for the nation. District two already got all the colours and patterns, why have 2 places with that kind of speciality skill.... Make no sense.
@@taiwanisacountrygoogle 19th Century textile mills and that gives you a clue as to why they have their own district. Animals produce wool and leather. Plants produce hemp, cotton, twine, linen Producing each product is specialized and used in everything.
@@anonomas6126 textiles is a very long process. Let us take cotton as our example. First cultivation. Then harvesting, then ginning. This is where the seeds and other dirt is removed from the fibres. Now we can begin the processing. Cleaning, yes it needs to be cleaned again, ginning again, then lint cleaning. The cleaning process is extremely important because any dirt or such will be spun with the fibres if they are not removed. Carding, now the cotton will be made into slivers. Then combing, (for high quality yarn). Drawing, this is where we align the fibres uniformly. Roving, now we are making them thinner and longer, and finally spinning. This is where the long thin fibres are being spun into yarn. This is for cotton. This is why we have not used cotton for most of human existence. It is absolutely ridiculous to do so much work for a product that is worse than silk. The reason why we use cotton is because there is a lot of it. Silk is made from silk worms trying to make a puppe for themselves, but we keep taking their fine puppe strings. So this process takes a while, even with a lot of larva. Yes I am undermining my own argument. But that is only true for cotton.
The thing with the Career Districts is that parents probably aren't worried about their kids being called for the Games, as it's most likely that someone will volunteer anyway
not katniss being judgemental of the other district's kids name when she's literally named after a swamp potato. she really felt her swamp oats when she said that didn't she.
Katniss is a name for cattails. Calling cattails swamp potatoes would be okay if you could eat every part of the potato plant, it was packed with nutrition and had many other uses. The cattail is considered to be one of the best, if not the best, survival plant. The cattail is not a swamp potato, the potato is a very poor excuse for a cattail. The name is actually significant. Katniss, named for a super survival plant, is a survivor. Some plants and their names carry a great deal of meaning.
@@angelacrabtree2847cattail is not what katniss means fucking lmao Wapato is the word and tuber you want It’s absolutely a water potato they’re not wrong
@@angelacrabtree2847 like primrose! She looks really innocent and fragile on the outside but the flower I think is also used as a healing herb or something and prim is a doctor
In the books, we never get to see Hamich's work behind the scenes. That's one thing I enjoyed about the movie. We get to see that the 2-victor rule was brought about by Hamich convincing the gamemakers to give the audience and the players something new to root for.
And don’t forget, Cato and Clove were both from district 2. So even the people that weren’t routing for Katniss and Peeta had another pair to route for.
I actually think that the theory of the major dr4g problem in district 6 is very interested,bc them being the ones responsible not only for the making of the transports but the ones who actually make up the work forces for the trains,it helps the capitol to keep them docile with morphiling to not rebel
Also I think according to the movie guides D6 has the biggest population out of any of the Districts. So you have a large group of people who are all a massive flight risk, sedating them with a highly addictive drug they can’t get anywhere else makes sense as a method to control them. Also I could imagine that D6 has their fair shares of work accidents on the tracks or in factories so that could also be a reason to that they have easy access to Morphling which is first and formost a painkiller.
I think Cato is meant to foreshadow Finnick. They’re both careers who Katniss mercy killed. I believe Cato would’ve met a similar fate to Finnick if he’d made it.
I like the idea that Cato would’ve survived. Out of the few surviving rebels, one being from 1 and one from 12 (katniss) seems like a fitting ending. Closing off the idea that all districts are equal victims of the capitol despite the perceived inequality between them
Haymitch never through himself off the cliff. He kicked a rock off the cliff in frustration. The rock bounced back up, and that was how Haymitch figured out how to win.
I have this take on Lamina, I think Lamina represents the false perception of the capital towards districts as savage animals, Lamina's name is Animal Backward but Lamina doesn't go "savage" but the opposite she is kind she mercy kills Marcus, challenging the idea that districts are savage animals that only kills for selfish reasons. and it also goes against Dr. Gaul's take on human nature that "That's humanity undressed. The tributes. And you, too. How quickly civilization disappears. All your fine manners, education, family background, everything you pride yourself on, stripped away in the blink of an eye, revealing everything you actually are." Lamina didn't succumb to that during her games she didn't kill anyone and the only time she fought is to defend her self (THIS IS ALSO THE REASON WHY I DON'T THINK LAMINA PRETENDED TO BE "WEAK" SO PEOPLE DONT TARGET HER SHE DIDNT PRETEND TO BE WEAK LIKE JOHHANA)
It's a great interpretation, but I think her name is more of a referrence to her district. In latin languages, a lâmina is the sharp part of a tool, such as an axe, a knife or anything that can cut, and these are the tools used in the 7
Gotta say... didn't know about Titus, but I love that kind of energy unseen by others in any of the movies or books. Just so unhinged even the evil child-killers are like... "Take a chill pill, you funky little freak.'
It's funny you say that.... Last night I walked into the living room to find my husband watching a movie. The words "District 9" popped up on the screen and my first thought was "oh, Hunger Games" but was immediately followed by the thought "Nope, wait a minute" lol
The story of “Titus” from district 6 is disturbing on so many levels. But I still have to chuckle imagining the rest of district 6 pooling their money together to perhaps airdrop in “Some Fava-beans and a nice Chianti………” 😅
One thing I never understood is why did panem need nuclear weapons? Of course they needed something for inside panem but nuclear weapons is more for an outside threat. I doubt they're the only ones that survived, so I wonder did they have nuclear weapons because there were others or because they didn't know if there were others
I always theorized that Panem was like a really roided up North Korea. Where a world exists outside (probably Europe/Asia etc) but because the Capitol is SO in control of the media and education that no one inside the country ever knew about the outside world.
Panem was built on the ruins of what is now considered the US/North America. I'm not sure about Canada or Mexico, but I remember being in school and learning about the many nuclear weapons that were left over in the US following the Cold War that were just never done away with. My guess would be that at least part of Panem's supply was from the US's existing stockpile.
@@Rivechawith what means? The capitol let them survive only if they didn’t do shit or start shit. They still suffered a huge blow and probably had to recover for at least 20 years. They had plagues, too, and I don’t think hovercrafts are made to traverse oceans - and why would 13 do that, they also didn’t immediately gain knowledge of the outside world just because they technically aren’t a part of panem anymore? I also don’t think anyone from outside of panem would’ve had the guts to contact 13.
for foxface it is seen in the training centre that she has a wide knowledge of plants and berries meaning she knew exactly what the berries she was eating were and kept herself alive long enough in the gaes by eating the safe ones then when she was nearing confrontation with the remaining tributes took her own life so she could die peacfully instead of being killed by the remaining tributes.
that’s the movie adaptation tho, in the book katniss realizes that fox face was following them and ate the berries peeta was picking bc she thought they were safe to eat
@zuricatalan6160 yeah pretty sure the books specify that the training center didn't cover nightlock, so she wouldn't have known. Also mentioned she had been starving. Also the actress said she was told the character didn't know they were poisoned oop
Nothing in the movie suggests that Foxface knew about foraging plants. In the training center, she was playing a memorization game, which trained her for when she memorized the path aground the landmines. Foxface dying from poisonous berries goes to show that brains cannot win you the hunger games. The games aren't fair, the game makers won't tell you everything you need to know.
actually this isnt true, in the book katniss said that nightlock came from district 12 only and by remembering something her father had said to her she remebered not to eat them. the training center obviously didnt cover district specific berries and also in the book its revealed that she took a slice of cheese aswell, so it wouldnt make sense to take cheese if she knew she was gonna die anyway
I had never thought about it but I love how chill everyone was after Katniss shoot President Coin. I know they officially tried to frame it as "She missed the shot or she was so unstable that she missed" but in reality everyone was a little relieved and "yeah well, I didn't like her that much either anyways". 🤣🤣😢
38:00 Cecelia's death probably effected Katniss so much because when her father died her mother became inconsolable and this led to her family constantly fighting to stave off starvation as they lost their provider. So she probably heavily sympathized with Cecelia's kids loosing a parent.
I've always wondered if impoverished non-Career people in the career-producing districts gamed the system and just maxed out their Tessera every year because they know that even if they get called that a Career Tribute will just volunteer in their place.
I think whatever Dr Gaul is feeding in that pool at the end of "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" was something Mags had to fight. She's described as "small" so her advantage would be being able to swim when most are never taught. I thought it was kind of pointed that they alluded to a water creature (eels? more snakes?) www.youtube.com/@thefourthsaluki Has some amazing District Deep Dives.
Titus also harks back to Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus, in which he takes revenge against the people who killed his children by killing them and cooking them into a pie which he feeds to their mother.
It does include Oregon and most of Washington, which are big for fishing. Agree that the map is kinda silly and probably wasn't intended to be canon in the first place. It also kinda doesn't matter to the story, Suzanne Collins keeps the details simple and relevant to the message she's trying to send.
Ive just started this video, idk how it goes, but PLEASE Tell me this FINALLY addresses the fact that the districts seem to have the population of a big town or small city/some with a population of a large city and all meet in this town center once a year but are the physical size of MULTIPLE STATES and personal cars are only in the wealthier districts if at all, so most people are using public transport if they have that opition, or walking/biking its the biggest plot hole of the whole series!!!!
It’s implied they have preliminary drawings to cut down on the possible population there. It’s explicitly mentioned that only a fraction of the population of district 11 was at the victory tour because the economy had to keep going.
I mean they say in the books that large districts like 2 (~200k people) are actually composed of a large town and smaller villages. District 12 is only about 6k people going off the wiki. So its not beyond the realm of possibility that their young people would meet in the town square.
Bro do you know anything about hunger games? District 12 is the smallest by far and not at all an accurate representation of the population of the other districts population size.
Talking about right now in our world, the states biggest in physical size have a lesser populations. The state of Utah is gigantic but there’s only about 3 million people here total. Most of the land is uninhabited by people.
I was pretty sure I remembered Thresh dying to the dogs too, there was at least one line about how all of the sudden Katniss just hears agonized screaming from the fields to foreshadow the hounds coming. Also, I don't think Titus resorted to cannibalism out of survival instinct, I got the vibe that he literally just went completely feral out of starvation, hence why peace keepers had to use stun guns to knock him out to evacuate his kills.
I thought the Flickerman in the new movie was the younger version of the one from the OG movies… he was hosting his first Hunger Games and by the time we get to OG games he is smooth and comfortable in his role… in my head, the capitol being the capitol had their ways of just keeping their residents looking as young as they wanted
Lucky Flickerman in the movie mentions needing a highchair at his dinner reservation, we can assume this is his son, Ceasar Flickerman. This would make Ceasar 64 years old at the 74th games, which is a lot more realistic than 100+
I need an Hulu series of the Hunger games leading up to the 74th. Each season is a new game, so we can finally see each district and Victor expanded on.
Yes, I heard about the Games before the 74th and they are crazy! The arenas were so cool! There was a game in an abandoned city, amusement park, college campus, Inca ruins, Egypt and a poisoned flower field/ woodlands!
So you want to be a Capitol dehumanizing hypocrite, eh? You _want_ to watch _intentionally impoverished children_ or _trained paychopaths_ murder each other for entertainment? Just read the books. Suzanne Collins is on record saying she wrote them as an example of when rebellion is a moral necessity and how to critically think through your positions despite trauma, societal pressure, etc. You are choosing to ignore all of that in favor of underage brutality. Well done. You belong on a list.
Just throwing this out there man, I love the video but please, please look into your sponsors more closely. BetterHelp has become a known scam with no actual licensed therapists.
Thank god I never actually decided to look into them, I finally got a therapist after two years of waiting and between those two years I was desperate, though I’m glad I never went to them lmao
The thing that's always annoyed me about this map is that it makes no sense. We KNOW roughly how many people live in each district, and we know the districs are small - I've always figured most are like cities, not states. Most district residents, especially in poorer districts like 12, walk, and Katniss walks through pretty much all of district 12 in a few hours. It also makes sense that the districts MUST be far away from one another, otherwise people who get away could easily travel to a different district, and we know from Catching Fire that it's dangerous and takes a long time, at least about an hour by hovercraft between 12 and 13, right? THIS is a key point in how the Capitol keeps its control, because there's no communication between districts. This means that the borders of each district are FAR from one another. A map of Panem would be more like isolated cities scattered throughout a map that looks like part of North America.
not to defend titus (the cannibalist) but referring to the opening scene of TBOSAS where that guy cuts off someone’s leg to eat it, he probably didn‘t know any other way to find food. He was starving and i can totally understand how that could lead you to cannibalism if it‘s the only way to find food
I have no idea why, but when I first read the books I pictured Panem as like, a circle. With the capital in the center and all the districts branching off like a sun around it. Was super confused on how that worked. Didn't realize until now it actually was like 😂😅
What I dont get about the districts is, you can fit all the 12-18 year olds in one place for the reaping? So there's only like, thousands of 12-18 year olds? Meaning the population of the whole district is like, tens of thousands? Tens of thousands of people populate an area bigger than an average US state? And that number of workers can support the luxuries in the capitol?
IVE BEEN WONDERING THE SAME THING and most of these districts don't really have cars or any valid transportation so what? Do they walk all the way across Texas and Oklahoma to go maybe get killed one day? Then oh yay it's not me this year, time to walk all the way back across Texas and oklahoma
Most numbers are from 6 and probably the capitol, where people aren’t drawn for reaping. I’d imagine 6 has a huge place for this or they sort it out in other ways. The rest of the Districts are low in numbers (around ten thousands) I believe
“It’s seems like Florida was taken out of the picture completely” And that’s not the worst decision in the world. Having Florida taken out would actually make living in the us better at times
no mention of the male tribute from 10 in the 74th games? the kid who entered the games with an injured leg and yet survived nearly as long as Marvel? damn.
27:46 I always found it interesting that, in the movies, they had Foxface die the way she did. Because, during the tribute training, they had her shown studying up on floria, even showing her identifying that the berries in question were poisonous. Some theories say she knew and decided to kill herself, but it wasn't in the book, so...
That was a matching/memorizing game! Like the ones you play as a kid where you flip the cards over to match the bear to the bear or the fish to the fish. It’s not to teach her plants, more so to test her fast thinking and memory. (Which is what helped her at the food pile and reburied mines!) That’s why Peeta remarks in the movies that he didn’t even know she was following him, which insinuates she didn’t know the nightlocke (which was a District 12 only plant) was poisonous and picked them because Peeta did and was most likely starving. 😭
I love your videos!! That said, you made some funny mistakes in this one, like showing Cato (District 2) (7:06) when talking about District 1, and showing *explicitly* the winner of the 67th hunger games and saying he won the 76th hunger games that never happened (7:20) 🤭
The thing is with tessera from career districts is that getting it has 0 consequence as theres volunteers anyways so i dont know if it shows hunger or if people just wanna bulk up a little 😭
@@BiRios yeah I was talking bout districts 1,2 and 4 where there's always volunteers, obviously in the other district's getting Tessera is bad but in the career districts there no consequence knowing there's going to be volunteers
@@BiRios the point of careers is that they volunteer when they're 18 after training all their lives. in districts 1, 2, and 4 volunteers aren't rare in the slightest
I heard somewhere that the unnamed female tribute from the second quarter quill was madge's aunt who owned the mockingjay pin before Madge gave it to Katniss
GREAT video, just a minor correction. The "official" industry of 13 was Graffite, they never delt with nuclear energy (that was 5), the underground unofficial industry that wasn't public knowledge to the districts was WEAPONRY specifically of the Nuclear kind, that's part of why 13 got special treatment at the end of the war, because only the Capitol knew about the nuclear weapons 13 had
Also graphite isn’t used as control rods. Graphite accelerates reactivity which would increase power which would be the opposite desired result for inserting control rods. Control rods are usually made out of boron or hafnium
One note, I refuse to believe fox face saw peeta collecting berries and said hey imma have some too. She was a beast during the trails picking out the berries that were good to eat and not. We get a clip of her. I think she was just done fighting and she saw him getting the berries and said perfect.
I see where you’re going but that’s a movie only adaptation, in the books she’s not mentioned in training at all and we aren’t even told her score. There’s no way to know how she actually did at any of the tasks
And to continue on from the above comment in the books Katniss realises after fox face dies that she had been following and eating Katniss and Peeta’s food for a while but only a bite here and there so they didn’t really notice. I don’t think she did it on purpose she was probably really hungry and assumed if he was picking them knowing he was with Katniss then they were alright
Also, in the movie when foxface is training, she's doing the plant matching quiz based on the leaves of the plants. She never saw what leaves Peeta gathered the nightlocke from, just the berries. She could've noticed what they were if she saw the plant, but since she was stealing food she didn't know they were poisonous.
Yeah it is said by Katniss in the books that the berries are very similar looking to a common edible one. Foxface just didn't check because she assumed that if Peeta intended to eat them, they had to be safe
The whole point was supposed to be that her laziness was her downfall - she assumed they were safe because Peeta was about to eat them. Also she never picked out berries that were good to eat, the bit in the training was supposed to show how shes good at pattern recognition. If you watch the clip again all thats shown are simple outlines of leaves and nuts, no mention of their safety. Then she figures out the the layout of the bombs because of her good memory.
I'm disappointed to see youtubers still doing sponsorships with Better Help, it's such a problematic platform and some content creators are willing to ignore the harm they can be doing for the sake of a check. Especially when it comes to anything "health" related, mental or physical. Thanks for the video regardless, I enjoy the content, I just don't see anyone talking about it here.
@Whatever-xs9pe It could be why the capitol is creating nuclear weapons. Why would you need nuclear weapons in your own country. Maybe there's something the higher-ups of the capitol know that everyone else doesn't.
The only theory I have seen is that humans abused Earth with a nuclear war which would lead to dead landscapes across the globe and also with the years passing by and the Earth getting hotter, sea levels would rise, taking a lot of land with it. That's why Florida on the Panem map is submerged under water.
I imagine it goes something like this. Italy: Hey, is America, I mean Panem still hosting an annual child killing game? Poland: Yes. South Africa: So we'll continue ignoring them, yes? Japan: Yes.
Idk if this is cannon but I’ve seen that because district 6 has such an access to transportation, the capital released a lot of morphling into the district to get the citizens addicted and less likely to leave
Some of the info on district 1 is wrong. Firstly, you said district 1 has the largest pool of victors which is false since we’re told it’s district 2 that has the most victors. Secondly you said Augustus Braun won the 76th games (non existent games) when he won the 67th games. Second of all the clip of the victor in the 73rd games with the brick was the district 2 male, not district 1.
I liked the songbirds & snakes book/movie. If they make any other Hunger Games books/movies, I am hoping they go back a little further in time & cover just how “The dark days” began. And cover some other things like, - Why did “the Capitol” move from DC to what is basically Denver? - Where did Florida go? I’m assuming it flooded, but was there perhaps some super weapon used to take it out? - What is the rest of the world doing while all this is going on? I’m assuming they were involved in the war, but are they all gone / or did they all emigrate to “Panem” because their lands were no longer habitable? Last, this is more me being confused but a clear explanation of the post modern history would be nice. From what I’ve gathered, there was a “Great War”, then after that, “Panem” was created with its 13 Districts. Then, after some unknown time, District 13 tried a rebellion (The Dark Days) that failed, and it was after that failed rebellion then the Hunger Games were created? I am not sure that is correct but a book/story about the time prior to The Hunger Games I think would be really interesting. Thanks for this overview content!!
I still think Lucy Gray is Katniss’s grandma on her Dad’s side. Her dad had a beautiful singing voice and knew about the shack and pond in the woods. I think it also explains Snow’s fascination and obsession with her because at times it did seem to go beyond how she “outsmarted” the game makers in the 74th games.
i think the chances of lucy gray being her grandma are slim but not impossible. i was definitely thinking her dad was a descendant of the covey tho just not necessarily lucy gray
Singing well is not genetic lol. Clearly, since katniss and prim can't sing for shit. Shack and pond would've been discovered by anyone who was hungry enough go find food. That character is made after katniss, and rather badly I might add, based on what I've seen at least. They made her into another katniss instead of a first Lucy. I'm specifically talking about the movie, that bowing scene was so fucking stupid and unnecessary, I'll never watch it lmao. It completely ruined the effect shown in the og. I might read the book sometime, but maybe not.
Question: in districts that have multiple victors, what or who determines which Victor will mentor the tributes. Additionally, in districts, that didn’t have any victors, who would mentor the tributes (after the 11th hunger games)
I have minimal interest/knowledge in HG but THIS is the one topic I always wanted explained. Thank you, you may have sparked a new (albeit very late to the party) fan.
«When going on a train through District 9, future President Snow thought to himself: wow. What an ugly place.» Coming from Coriolanus Snow I’ll read that as a compliment to the District. Everyone else in Panen would’ve starved without it, not to mention how important bread is in this universe.
If that’s the official map, then it kinda helps the theory that the world pretty much flooded over and left what would be North America besides Florida since it would be under water, North America just had Plot armor in this theory, trade off was Florida
I can't believe there are still TH-camrs out there taking better help sponsorships. You don't even need to look hard to find the issues with this company. Really disappointing.
Snow prequel book and the movie, really give me Smallville Lex Luthor vibes, they have basically the same arc, even that in the movie they portray Snow more sympathetic and less manipulative than in the book, but by reading the book, the only person that Snow cares about is Snow, is not a turn from good to bad, he is basically Lex Luthor from Smallville, than turn from shady to outright ruthless and cruel, all in his search for power and control, Snow justified his point of view saying that the world is a jungle, ignoring all the people that suffer similar circumstances and turn all right, is all about him being on top.
I like to think that in the movie, thresh and Cato were battling and then that’s when the mutts were released. Cato ran away to the cornucopia and thresh was devoured by the mutts which is why when we see Cato, he was bloodied. It’s a stretch though
50:30-50:49 Katniss was implyin' that Cato had indirectly killed Thresh. I highly doubt that somebody like him would hesitate to eliminate a threat while buyin' himself more time to run from the Mutts.
27:52 I think foxface k!lled herself on purpose because in the training she was seen matching up all the poison berries and the safe berries so she would know that nightlock is poison and she is smart so she would figure out it's pointless winning the games because the capital would take over your whole life and if she was gonna commit s*icide she would make it look like an accident making sure her family doesn't get punished
Better help is a bad sponsor. They take advantage of their consumers by not providing what they promise. Please do your research before accepting money from scummy people
there’s actually a theory where foxface actually knew the berries were poisonous and ate them to commit suicide because when the tributes were training, she was seen studying different plants and herbs, so it’s most likely that the nightlock berries were familiar to her
i like that theory too, but it really only works with the movie. she’s from district 5 so i don’t think she’d know much about foraging/berries even tho she’s smart and sneaky. i genuinely think she was relying on her wits to survive and observed other tributes to keep herself alive. she probably ended up following katniss and therefore peeta bc she realized they were her safest choice to stalk and get food from. it seems like peeta did accidentally kill her by collecting the berries. he was waiting for katniss so they could eat together but fox face was probably hungry enough to just eat them
I think it's quite obvious why D3 was not allowed to train careers. If they're the most educated of people, giving them physical training would be the most deadly combination. You've already told us how winners from D3 won - If they could fight back just as well as people from D1, D2 and D4... that would be no diff domination. And a potential rival to Snow's power.
No District 3 isn't a career district because they were severely punished by the capitol after the first war. District was one of the first to rebel (after District 13) during the first war. Whereas District 2 was somewhat favoured by the Capitol cause of their "loyalty". If District was weathy then they would defiently have career tributes (like District 1). District 2 and 4 are both wealthy yet they have industries that help build strength.

Hey there 👋🏾 I noticed 2 slightly incorrect things in this video
1. At 7:20 you meant to say 67th Hunger Games instead of 76th
I’m in TX .
I never thought about it that way but I LOVE this interpretation. Especially with how Snow has personally witnessed the cannibalism before
Food is food.
@@Veldazandteaumm…. Yeaaah❗️⚠️
very much agree! esp. in refrence to why the capital loved enobaria but not titus; cannibalism was too fresh a wound and much to real to them, where as ripping throats out with your teeth is a very movie-like thing to happen. its gory but its theatrical!

Wich just proves that Snow never went to therapy and reduces the entire original trilogy plot to "Snow threw a HISSY fit" and i hate that ❤
@@thegirlwitheeyes1232 That doesn't change the trilogy plot though.
That actually sounds like a lot of men
I wish the movies had included that Katniss got her mockingjay pin from District 12's mayor's daughter, Madge, who is basically Katniss's only friend aside from Gale.

@@Shapoufiiie
Youd be surprised how many places rigidly define rape as solely the Penial Penetration of a Vagina.
The difference is, when men are raped, women think it's romantic.

Plants produce hemp, cotton, twine, linen
Producing each product is specialized and used in everything.

Katniss is a name for cattails.
Calling cattails swamp potatoes would be okay if you could eat every part of the potato plant, it was packed with nutrition and had many other uses.
The cattail is considered to be one of the best, if not the best, survival plant.

In the books, we never get to see Hamich's work behind the scenes. That's one thing I enjoyed about the movie. We get to see that the 2-victor rule was brought about by Hamich convincing the gamemakers to give the audience and the players something new to root for.
I also really liked what they did with Plutarch in Catching Fire. His scenes with Snow gave a lot more depth to what was going on around Katniss.
Cato also reminds me of coral in tbosas they way they acted very eager to kill the mc and then ended up begging for mercy as they slowly die
I like the idea that Cato would’ve survived. Out of the few surviving rebels, one being from 1 and one from 12 (katniss) seems like a fitting ending. Closing off the idea that all districts are equal victims of the capitol despite the perceived inequality between them

Tribute Boy and Tribute Girl are so dedicated to be representing so many districts on the 74th Games.
Gaul's take on human nature that
"That's humanity undressed. The tributes. And you, too. How quickly civilization disappears. All your fine manners, education, family background, everything you pride yourself on, stripped away in the blink of an eye, revealing everything you actually are."
Lamina didn't succumb to that during her games she didn't kill anyone and the only time she fought is to defend her self
(THIS IS ALSO THE REASON WHY I DON'T THINK LAMINA PRETENDED TO BE "WEAK" SO PEOPLE DONT TARGET HER SHE DIDNT PRETEND TO BE WEAK LIKE JOHHANA)
It's a great interpretation, but I think her name is more of a referrence to her district. In latin languages, a lâmina is the sharp part of a tool, such as an axe, a knife or anything that can cut, and these are the tools used in the 7

I assume it was a 1984 kind of thing. The threat of war kept citizens docile, it wouldn't even matter if there actually was a war.
for foxface it is seen in the training centre that she has a wide knowledge of plants and berries meaning she knew exactly what the berries she was eating were and kept herself alive long enough in the gaes by eating the safe ones then when she was nearing confrontation with the remaining tributes took her own life so she could die peacfully instead of being killed by the remaining tributes.
that’s the movie adaptation tho, in the book katniss realizes that fox face was following them and ate the berries peeta was picking bc she thought they were safe to eat
That's why i think woof knew what he was doing by eating the poisonous insects. He was trying to kill himself instead of being killed.

Idk what it is about the hunger games but I have been obsessed with this story since the first book came out.
I think whatever Dr Gaul is feeding in that pool at the end of "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" was something Mags had to fight. She's described as "small" so her advantage would be being able to swim when most are never taught. I thought it was kind of pointed that they alluded to a water creature (eels? more snakes?)

Gotta love how district 4 despite the area being mostly desert in real life, is the fishing spot because California has beaches.
There are more realistic interpretations on r/imaginarymaps
I mean, the ocean DID consume a good chunk of it
It does include Oregon and most of Washington, which are big for fishing.
You also have to assume there is a lot of empty space near the borders in some of the districts - a no-man's land of forest, desert, or mountains.
He did die by the dogs. I don't think Cato would've done anything to him to make him scream like that.
They both have different first names and the OG flickerman would have been over 100 years old by the 74th hunger games
Lucky Flickerman in the movie mentions needing a highchair at his dinner reservation, we can assume this is his son, Ceasar Flickerman. This would make Ceasar 64 years old at the 74th games, which is a lot more realistic than 100+

Yeah it makes more sense that it's in New England over the entire country

Meaning the population of the whole district is like, tens of thousands? Tens of thousands of people populate an area bigger than an average US state? And that number of workers can support the luxuries in the capitol?
they mentioned it in one of the books that some of the districts could possibly do preliminary draws to narrow it down before reaping day
Think about how many people wouldn't have kids because they would end up spending 6 years in the Reapings. That would seriously decrease births.
@@blackcatsandbooks86ohhh that makes a lot of sense
Most numbers are from 6 and probably the capitol, where people aren’t drawn for reaping.
I’d imagine 6 has a huge place for this or they sort it out in other ways.
The rest of the Districts are low in numbers (around ten thousands) I believe
“It’s seems like Florida was taken out of the picture completely”
And that’s not the worst decision in the world. Having Florida taken out would actually make living in the us better at times
They were just scared of us. Florida Man in the games? No one else would have stood a chance.
Yeah if Florida existed in Panem the revolution would have started and ended way earlier.
What a pathetically SJW Lefty comment. From Australia, Florida seems like one of the most sane of all the States.

no mention of the male tribute from 10 in the 74th games? the kid who entered the games with an injured leg and yet survived nearly as long as Marvel?
(Which is what helped her at the food pile and reburied mines!)
That’s why Peeta remarks in the movies that he didn’t even know she was following him, which insinuates she didn’t know the nightlocke (which was a District 12 only plant) was poisonous and picked them because Peeta did and was most likely starving. 😭
Wow snow had no problem killing his old classmates great nephew. The classmate he held as she died. Snow cold blooded.
Snow truly is *cold*
its crazy that the first hunger games was in 2038 we are sooo close
I love your videos!!
That said, you made some funny mistakes in this one, like showing Cato (District 2) (7:06) when talking about District 1, and showing *explicitly* the winner of the 67th hunger games and saying he won the 76th hunger games that never happened (7:20) 🤭
also 30:57 when he says the morphlings won the 75th
The thing is with tessera from career districts is that getting it has 0 consequence as theres volunteers anyways so i dont know if it shows hunger or if people just wanna bulk up a little 😭
Volunteers are really rare
@@BiRios yeah I was talking bout districts 1,2 and 4 where there's always volunteers, obviously in the other district's getting Tessera is bad but in the career districts there no consequence knowing there's going to be volunteers

Snow changed for the worse
I thought District 5's primary energy source was the dam?
I love the resurgence of Hunger Games fandom right now, we all need more content in any medium 🔥
You are incredible omg. You are making these hunger games videos so quickly and I’m eating them up!! Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much!
Having a BetterHelp sponsorship on a video about the Hunger Games is truly dystopian. no hate to the creator whatsover, it just is off.
its very odd
Considering the circumstances, Woof might have known exactly what he was doing 😬
What's wrong with better help? I've never used the service and don't know much about it other than it being an online therapy service
I wonder what happened to all the other continents on earth at the times of the hunger games
me too!!
@Whatever-xs9pe It could be why the capitol is creating nuclear weapons. Why would you need nuclear weapons in your own country. Maybe there's something the higher-ups of the capitol know that everyone else doesn't.
Considering the military power of panem, im thinking its a global superpower
There's so many errors in this video of his.
I liked the songbirds & snakes book/movie.
If they make any other Hunger Games books/movies, I am hoping they go back a little further in time & cover just how “The dark days” began. And cover some other things like,
- Why did “the Capitol” move from DC to what is basically Denver?
Yes
Singing well is not genetic lol. Clearly, since katniss and prim can't sing for shit. Shack and pond would've been discovered by anyone who was hungry enough go find food. That character is made after katniss, and rather badly I might add, based on what I've seen at least. They made her into another katniss instead of a first Lucy.
I'm specifically talking about the movie, that bowing scene was so fucking stupid and unnecessary, I'll never watch it lmao. It completely ruined the effect shown in the og. I might read the book sometime, but maybe not.

There’s a lot of interesting things of the hunger games (disregarding the dystopia) after gaining interest more recently.
Question: in districts that have multiple victors, what or who determines which Victor will mentor the tributes.
Additionally, in districts, that didn’t have any victors, who would mentor the tributes (after the 11th hunger games)
1. The most recent victors
2. No one
The second point i would assume the capital would provide a mentor.. kinda like Balllad of Songbirds and Snakes@@ILikedGooglePlus

Saving this for when I start my Hunger Games DnD campaign
«When going on a train through District 9, future President Snow thought to himself: wow. What an ugly place.»
Coming from Coriolanus Snow I’ll read that as a compliment to the District. Everyone else in Panen would’ve starved without it, not to mention how important bread is in this universe.
I’m sorry but I know Katniss, ms Swamp Potato, is not disapproving of names like Cashmere 😭 no waaaaay

I talk more about the Dark Days in my new video talking about Snow
I like to think that in the movie, thresh and Cato were battling and then that’s when the mutts were released. Cato ran away to the cornucopia and thresh was devoured by the mutts which is why when we see Cato, he was bloodied. It’s a stretch though
Weirdly, District 9 (the one that's all about the Grain and bread) isn't talked about at all.
Gonna binge this forever now just like the other 2 hunger games vids
50:30-50:49 Katniss was implyin' that Cato had indirectly killed Thresh. I highly doubt that somebody like him would hesitate to eliminate a threat while buyin' himself more time to run from the Mutts.
27:52 I think foxface k!lled herself on purpose because in the training she was seen matching up all the poison berries and the safe berries so she would know that nightlock is poison and she is smart so she would figure out it's pointless winning the games because the capital would take over your whole life and if she was gonna commit s*icide she would make it look like an accident making sure her family doesn't get punished
the betterhelp ad on this video is crazy
I think the winner from 73rd hunger games is not from district 1 but 2, the jacket color is red oxide

18:29 how dare you, sir (lol) I thought that was one of the best interview moments, personally. (Also I love his voice when he delivers the line)
This is the most high effort low effort content I've seen
there’s actually a theory where foxface actually knew the berries were poisonous and ate them to commit suicide because when the tributes were training, she was seen studying different plants and herbs, so it’s most likely that the nightlock berries were familiar to her
so she took the easy way out cuz she saw everyone else dying and shes like "oh hell naw, i can't win against Cato, Thresh, or Katniss, imma die now"
i like that theory too, but it really only works with the movie. she’s from district 5 so i don’t think she’d know much about foraging/berries even tho she’s smart and sneaky. i genuinely think she was relying on her wits to survive and observed other tributes to keep herself alive. she probably ended up following katniss and therefore peeta bc she realized they were her safest choice to stalk and get food from. it seems like peeta did accidentally kill her by collecting the berries. he was waiting for katniss so they could eat together but fox face was probably hungry enough to just eat them
In the books it's noted that Foxfacr was emaciated implying she was making bad decisions due to starving. Better to go quick than slow, poor girl.
also in the books I’m pretty sure nightlock is regionally exclusive; so she wouldn’t be familiar with nightlock as it wouldn’t be native to district 5
1:00:24 10 pm… is self-loathing. Relatable
Td;lr District 3 is purposely made poor as punishment for their help of instigating the first war.
