  • More than 1,600 members of the Shona community who have lived in Kenya for decades as stateless persons were on Wednesday conferred with the country's citizenship. Interior Security Minister Dr. Fred Matiang'I issued national Identity Cards ending a protracted struggle to be recognised by the East African nation which has hosted them and their forefathers for more than sixty years. Sarah Kimani reports.

Well done Kenya, l hope south Africa will learn from you but l doubt because of xenophobia and racism of a black man towards another african black man and in reality there is never a history of south African government giving other Africans in that country citizenship even though they stayed there for more than 10 years.

why should South Africa give people citizenship when many of our citizens are sleeping in the streets

    • @blackwidower4283

@@mbulelozulu7963 that is because of corruption happening in your government.
Do you even know that the grant money and rdp houses that you are getting for free, they are not basically for free because non south Africans are paying for them through tax.
Every person who buys anything in either pick and pay or spar shops will pay tax and ask yourself that " how many foreigners are buying in these shops per day and where is that taxi money going"?
To deal with poverty in south africa just ask your government where they are taking taxpayers money instead of helping out the suffering.

@@blackwidower4283 the tax from foreigners is used to pay border patrol, fight crime that is brought by foreigners, and lastly they go to clinics and hospitals. These foreigners who are in prison its not free aswel.

@@blackwidower4283 I don't have anything against foreigners in SA but please don't make up false narrative. We the South Africans contribute 97% of VAT as well as tax from our salaries. We appreciate your contribution but don't make it as if that's what is carrying us.

@@shimanediseko2790 but the very funny thing is that those foreigners are being treated like trash in south Africa, there is no freedom of movement, everywhere they go, they get stopped and asked for a piece of paper (passports) even though their skin colour shows already who they are.
Talking about foreigners contributing in south Africa, have you researched to see how much foreigners are paying for renting every month and that money is helping a lot in south African families.

Fred Okengo Matiangi , this is abad move for kenya. Can I also go and claim citizenship in US because my ancestors were forcefully taken from their natural inhabitants and forced into slave labour. Subject to inhumaine living conditions and poverty? . I don't think current US government would allow that. They need to fight for citizenship from their own countries. Runing around with old political excuses is not going to help them in the long run. There's alot of poverty in Kenya and human beings have been migrating since day one. The Bantus living in kenya todsy migrated from South and Central Afrika. Does it mean they should also go back and claim citizenship in thpse countries?.
