Honestly, aside from getting a very annoying mon in rain out of the tier, the main benefit of Archaludon's ban is that we can now give UU their Iron Treads back.
I like how the way of beating arch was a mon that could not OHKO it and still took massive damage from body press
Treads wasn't really the mon used to stop Arch, but rather it is one of its best partners. The team that Arch is most used in is a rain team that featured the core of Peli, Arch, Barra, and Treads. The popularity of this core is also why Barra rose to OU in the previous tier shift. The core only got more popular with time, becoming one of the most spammed cores of the past month, eventually leading to the suspect test.

Bolt played a solid part of Tread's rise, but the Arch core takes the cake on why Treads rose to OU in the February shift.

Archie was a goddamn menace in OU for sure... I can't say I would have voted for it to be banned per se, but it will absolutely punish anyone who isn't prepared for it.
Aka should be banned then or at least its signature move electro shot. Most people are upset with all these bans but what they don’t realize is that this gen introduced so many more super powered threats along with tera. Hard to play a tier where you need to have specific counters for like 15 mons that could just decimate your team.
You could always just ignore that but when you run into a rain team you would just instantly lose. And every team running say gliscor isnt fun to play against all the time but when it counters most of the threats you will see it a lot. Just makes the teams less diverse.
Also goes to show that majority of the players voted it to be banned and only the bums who watch joey play but don’t play themselves complain

if you think any pokemon that needs counters needs to be banned then never play pokemon again. There is more than 1000 mons, your team will ALWAYS lack coverage for one of them, so either build a counter to it or deal with the fact you gonna lose to it. This ban happy smogon is why i won't touch that showdown again.@@davidwaxter66

I don’t necessarily agree with the ban but it makes more sense than the sleep ban because arch is just so oppressing and forces you to play a certain way even if it’s not in rain
Great vid Joey, but if you're willing I think a video going over tiering and how suspect tests and bans work would be great for the TH-cam comp pokemon community, because they don't seem to understand how any of this works and the council is catching a lot of heat for it.

Honestly, I might use Duraludon over it. Duraludon, while not able to pull the same Electro Shot shenanigans, it is however able to pull Heavy Slam with Heavy Metal, and Body Press is still good thanks to access to Eviolite. They’re both just as good
Overall, Arch didn’t need to be banned
nah no chance. NU player here, even Eviolite Dura is outclassed by Registeel as a defensive steel type, and 70 / 172 / 75 bulk isn't bannable even in NU. (at least imo)
The custom sprite animations for the new mons in the team builder look really nice.

That happens a lot in competitive Pokemon, and I think it's partially because of vids like "THEY want to ban...", "THEY just banned...". These titles give off the impression that the OU council is some kabal of evil overlords that want to erase the fun out of Pokemon, while it's the playerbase that decided to ban that mon, and good players at that.

Because these videos are their only windows into competitive. They're the same people that saw Blunder's video of Terrakion performing very poorly in PU because of Dipplin and Sandyghast being able to answer its normal set and said "well see, it should just stay then, it's obviously able to be handled"
That and pointing fingers at the OU council (even when community votes stuff or Joey isn't even playing OU like the recent UU suspect video) is an easy circle jerk thing to do I guess. It is quite sad

Joey is approaching 500K subscribers. The peak simultaneous players I have ever seen reported on Showdown was 70k, and most of those are randbats or VGC (Natdex is almost as big as OU too.)
The point is, Joey's audience greatly exceeds the OU player base. Also, the comments section on any channel is largely an echo chamber. Someone sees that someone else is upset, they get upset, then they say essentially the same thing, for the next person to see.

It has too many things going for it. Great typing, a good ability in stamina, good stats, free special attack boosts in rain. Tera fairy on it covers the fighting weakness and strong dracos from the dragons in the tier. Well deserved ban imo, now to ban gambit and Gholdengo!
what extention do you use for the teambuilder
For everyone here saying "OU council smh" or whatever, you're doing nothing except demonstrating how uninformed you are of the situation. Archaludon was suspect tested, meaning it was a PUBLIC vote as long as you're good enough to get voting requirements. This was a decision made by players, not the council, just like with kyurem not being banned. The council only decides what to suspect test based on the community polls
Skill Issue
The OU council often times takes liberty to quick ban things just cause they want to without a suspect. Though Arch was suspect tested, a lot of bans in Gen 9 have not been...
@@sora4440 while that's true it's also completely irrelevant to my comment which is addressing people blindly blaming the council for the arch ban and pointing out the insanity of acting like you know what's best for the tier when you don't even know how the mon got banned in the first place, which shows a lack of understanding of how the smogon council operates.
But to your point, they've reverted all of the controversial quick bans anyway (basically just volcarona iirc) and the rest (chi-yu, palafin etc, ape etc.) were all justified because of how obvious their oppressiveness was on the metagame. Pretty much every other case where there was atleast some semblance of an argument for not banning had a suspect test. Saying "just because they want to" as the reason for the quick bans is very disingenuous tbh

@@GlossArt true I forgot about the sleep thing, but that's an exception and not a rule, it doesn't discredit anything I've said in any major way. Gen 9 brought with it ridiculous power creep so it makes sense why so many bans would need to take place to try and create a metagame where it isn't just a rock paper scissors between all the ridiculous new mons (and old ones/tera abusers). Tbh though I think booster energy and gholdengo are the main problems with the meta and always have been

I would love to see more non-water pokemon and moves be viably boosted for rain comps.
We had thunder in the past but having a rain version of solar beam/blade with a meteor beam boost is a great addition.
Hopefully GF in the future will see the potential for having more electric synergy in rain.

@@axis8396Ghold has many checks and counters. Gambit doesn’t have as many however it is struggling more know due to the higher level and also Tusk is on almost every other team

Love when people who don’t even play the tier or are barely 1300 rated talk about this ban being an injustice when literally 76 percent of the player base, not just the council, voted to ban it. Please learn how suspect tests work and what the actual meta is before complaining that they are banning everything this gen

most people who cry about smogon and bans in youtube comments are literally just people who play like 1-5 games every few weeks or months. If they were as really passionate about the tier as they seem to be, maybe they should get reqs and vote, but we all know thats never happening.
@@vryyyxI stopped playing Showdown seriously when gen 9 started. Got tired of running into the same ppl on the ladder over and over again. That said I feel like Smogon have become ban happy after a while I did play for a bit during the sleep ban era (personal I would have banned Darkrai.) I didn't have a problem with Arc. That's just me tho I did like 100 games

I played gen 6 religiously in every tier and had top 500 in UU and I think one or two other tiers, Made a team for almost every mega in their respective tier. Even had an few OU teams with unorthadoxed mons that put in work. Some teams being viable throughout the entire generation since I made them.
Fell off in ultra sun and ultra moon because z moves were a miserable mechanic to prep for.
I played gen 8 till cinderace got banned and kept tabs on how the gen was going with Joey's tier list changes and his comments on why mons rose and fall. And based on what I heard from him and other people. I wasn't missing much. Additionally I would've played nat dex if z moves were banned like they should've been in gen 7.
Gen 9 I think I've stuck with the most since there are mons I actually want to use allowed, however the meta has been so volatile that I just can't be bothered to play. Which is a shame because I'd love to play more. I want to get better at games I think are fun, and the lower tiers are looking like that right now. Not OU.

I've been using Arch on the low ladder in Ubers with a Mono-Type Dragon team featuring Miraidon to boost Electro Shot. Sturdy, Custap Berry. Funny as hell.

Feels weird it’s banned but also it picked up 2-3 kills every single game of my reqs with and without rain. Mon is at the minimum very difficult to counter with the current structures used in OU

That's not even how UUbers works.
If memory serves, the way it works is that a mon needs to have a lower use rate than 4.52% in Ubers to be eligible for UUbers. Arch just got banned so it can't be tested. We have to wait 'till the March use rates to see if it's allowed in the tier

Archaludon has been legal since after the first month of DLC2, and it will continue to be legal as long as this video doesn't put it over the 4.52 threshold

Yeah tbh it deserved to be banned. It just punishes any stray hit so hard it's absurd. You're terrified to press any move that might give it a free defense boost if it switches into it as it now beats its counters. Alongside assault vest it's an unkillable monster.
To reliably beat it it forced you into very specific mons to counter it.

@@g.mxanthis7575people bringing this up under every single comment is getting so fucking old, archaludon’s insane tournament results speak volumes about how meta-warping it was and while Gambit and Ghold are definitely questionable they’re still way more well-rounded presences than Arch Rain was. Therefore banning it was the right thing to do.
If u have a special ground type of a non ground type special attacker with earth power archaludon is one shot and two shot with assault vest. It can’t electro shot to boost and stamina becomes useless when the move is special. There are ways to beat an archaludon
There are ways to beat it, but asking every team to include those specific answers or be run over by it is a lot to ask, hence why the community voted on its ban

I agree with the ban, obviously the bridge itself wasn't the problem, but rain teams with him became too unhealthy, they were everywhere and barras + archa core was a no skill sweep, just open big holes with one of them and the other will clean up the rest
I agree that this thing was too much for the tier but I feel that Moon is still the bigger issue and probably Volc too because of tera if Moon goes.

Eviolite doesnt boost body press because eviolite doesnt boost the raw stat it just reduces the damage taken. Choice band boosts body press.

They don't ban moves unless multiple Pokemon get it. For example, Houndstone was banned even though Last Respects was the problem. Then Last Respects was given to Basculegion, so Houndstone unbanned and Last Respects banned
