- Pokemon Competitive Singles has been turned on it's head with the release of the "Hidden Treasure of Area Zero" DLC. Bloodmoon Ursaluna sure is an all new Ursaluna. This one uses special attacks though.

The move "Blood Moon" has a very high base power and thanks to "Mind's Eye" also known as "Scrappy 2", nothing can switch in against it. Woohoo!
Iron Mugulis and Iron Fellow know all about it.

Some will never figure out how to get Bloodmoon Ursaluna in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. But famous player Jim Cool is well aware of the Best Bloodmoon Ursaluna Moveset in Competitive, and even how to Bloodmoon Ursaluna Shiny Farm. Many aren't and never will be. That's just the unfortunate reality of the world.
Arceus exists.
The below text is very relevant to many people.
Game Freak just blew all other online game development schools out of the water with this incredible new 2022 release. You're gonna need to get a game design degree online, and FAST, if you want to make a better game than this. Not even the best strategy games android reddit could hold a candle to this breathtaking Next generation competitive Pokemon experience.
Scream Tail is the Jigglypuff of our wildest dreams. It has been buffed with some higher statistics and the incredible ability, Protosynthesis. Gen 9 Competitive Pokemon wouldn't be the same without this powerful pink blob. He kinda looks like someone I met in one of my game design and development courses.
Gen 9 Pokemon Showdown is one of the greatest online gaming sites in history. From Pikachu and Charizard, to Palafin and Roaring Moon, The new Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, have introduced a lot of new faces. Can I succeed in one of the best android games of all time? If so, I'm gonna get myself a Walmart bakery Pokemon cake to celebrate.
Gholdengo is a Pokemon made of pure gold. He must have done some online business management courses to accumulate all that wealth. Or perhaps he might want to learn how to make money playing video games on TH-cam. In any case, he's a powerful metagame force, with absolutely no interest in online game development schools.

I can’t believe it. 8 gens after gen 1 and “bulky normal type just firing hyper beam” is back to being meta.
Aside from the fact that blood moon is 10x better than hyper beam
It's not hyper beam tho as you had a turn where you did nothing and were vulnerable. This you just can't use the move twice. Huge difference.
You guys have never had a Tauros mirror every round of a tournament and it shows...
@@wadewillson9220 Not in Gen 1. In Gen 1 if you got a kill with hyper beam there was no rest turn.
@@otttimon5654 Gen 1 hyper beam was way more broken lmao. If you got a KO with it then there was no rest turn making mons like Tauros absolute monsters.
you know you are a problematic pokemon when people run the most niche checks to it and those checks still can be beaten
Beaten by BLuna itself no less with just minor tweaks; a speed invested Taunt BLuna can 1v1 Clefable, whereas a BLuna that also carries Hyper Voice for dual Normal STAB can completely circumvent Sub/Protect opponents wanting to play around Blood Moon's cooldown
What does a check mean?
The most niche check for BLuna i've seen was an Assault Vest Arboliva on a Grassy Terrain team, whose strat was to tank Blood Moon, set up terrain, then OHKO with a Giga Drain and get all its health back.
back when ogerpon-h was in the format, I was using banded lokix and slither wing first impression to deal with it lmao, but even that was sketchy
for bmluna i was running shit like spdef corv, but nothing is stopping bmlune from just cming on you

i have some words for the person that decided that blood moon can hit ghost types, as if it wasn't powerful enough
I mean that wouldn't be so bad if BM wasn't a base 140 power stab move, it's the combination of everything that makes it a problem

I swear there are so many strong Pokemon being introduced this generation that soon enough, (maybe next generation?) they might need to be a tier between OU and Ubers
technicaly there is, uubers. It's new but it's basicaly what UU is to OU but with Ubers
Yeah, the power creep is getting very real lately Ttar and Garchomp's fall from grace is proof of that, especially when you realize that Dragonite is the only pseudo, not from the two most recent gens, to be in OU and above, with Dragapult being in OU and Baxcalibur in Ubers. It's honestly kind of crazy just how much the meta has shifted in these last two gens

Fun fact. Bludmoon beat Calyrex Shadow by 0.12%.
@moeeyeguy531 it was quickbanned first, then it was suspect tested to see if it was healthy

ouch
Disgusting that Chi-Yu would have the audacity to swear on the thumbnail. We demand a full and frank apology
All you’d get is “252+ SpA Choice Specs Beads of Ruin Chi-Yu Overheat vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD you in Sun: 780-918 (197.9 - 232.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO”
Blood moon is technically a Mythical Pokémon that only available one in each game, and can only be capture after a story gameplay
Playing around it with air balloon tera flying gholdengo dueing my suspect run made me sweat a lot, glad that it's near unanimous and thus likely never getting tested in future games
And so begins the hunt for the five that voted don’t ban….
B-Ursuluna has counters to Fighting by Fairy moves, counter to Steel by Ground moves, has recovery by Moonlight/Protect, can hit Ghost by Minds eye ability.
Okay but who were the 2 people who thought it was okay to leave Deoxys A in OU
No actually, who thought it was even remotely okay to leave a Hydrogen bomb in a land of coughing babies
I remember learning about this pokemon and thinking "Oh! Assault Vest Tyranitar might be able to counter some sets!" And then I saw Vaccuum Wave.
Do you mean Body Press? STAB Earth Power is like 1.7x stronger than Vacuum Wave against Ttar
Its unsurprising to me that a special attacker with scrappy+keen eye and the second best special normal move behind boomburst would be so good
blud had *ASSAULT VEST* on his Ursaluna-Bloodmoon with *CALM MIND* ☠
While i support the motivation and theory behind this ban as well as the overall ban structure of high level play, i personally feel that such bans should be restricted from affecting such handsome pokemon who deserve our attention and inclusion
Blood Moon Ursaluna is basically RBY Tauros with more overtuned stats, a boosting and healing move, a better and Safer Hyper Beam and can hit ghost types
"they voted no right?" very topical jim dont forget to vote next week or you get a fine
Jimothy there are some crazy UU bans that just happened, including Garchomp and Kommo-o

considering how ursaluna regular was on the chopping block a little while back, it's unsurprising to me that ursaluna's big cousin that had better coverage and could fire off hyperbeams without recharge would get taken out
At this point, it is low key a legendary pokemon already. It is just not officially named a legendary
252+ SpA Ursaluna-Bloodmoon Blood Moon vs. 4 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Ice Scales Frosmoth: 66-78 (23.4 - 27.6%) -- 81.5% chance to 4HKO

I think it shouldn't be able to Calm Mind, this thing is a wild Bear. Still it is the first pokemon with traditional physical types to have such high special attack with great bulk
Aurora veil via ninetails to include blizzard was my go to. Provided you didnt switch into a bloodmoon it worked well.
Damn
Freddy managed to Jumpscare OU
if it didnt have moonlight and vacum wave i dont think would be such a problem
It can hit ghost types now, it’s so broken
Gen 9 competitive keeps setting new records lol, I don't think anything even needs to be said at this point lol
This thing singlehandedly caused Blissey to be dragged up to OU from PU.
Why is there no funmode in showdown where you can ban 1 pokemon like in league how you can ban 1 champ.
why is it called five nights 😭
I totally saw Bloodmoon Ursaluna being banned. I wanted it out of OU, because there was nothing I could do against it.
Imo Darkrai should be allowed in Gen 9 OU
I used a shitton of bloodmoon, and it needed to go. Wallbreakers than can be wincons are not ok, and blood moon/earth power is near perfect coverage.
Great! Now I can finally play OU in peace🚫🐻
If by peace you mean "continuing to play around Kingambit mind games to avoid getting reverse swept", yeah it's downright zen
Even if it's not good in Ubers, I think it'll be good in UUbers.
I can't help but to think that maybe it's about time OU's power levels standards are redefined. I know about UUbers, but it feels mostly as a patch for people who don't want the OU tier's relative power level to increase too much. If so many mons are getting quickbanned to Ubers, *this* is the new strong mon power level standard.
It feels like artificially keeping things down instead of accepting reality and trying to work with it.
Bro. Its not "fun". if a tier isnt fun, no one is gonna play it. Theres a lot of people that will quit if u dont ban a certain mon that makes the game unfun. I play Gen 9 and BM is so unfun to the play against i have to use mons i dont like using or pigeonhole myself into teams that are boring to play. U dont get to experiment with teams and only play against broken teams or ur own single broken team. Its not fun.
@@thinkingoffaclevernickname1928 if UUber turns to be a fun tier, when it is virtually the hypothetical OU I'm talking about, then maybe that's not true. It would not be fun if the now UUber mons were the exception and not the rule.
I mean the issue with having less bans is that this would require the entire tiering system to shift, resulting in either a ton of pokemon being in banlists or the competitive scene becoming entirely different and generally people do not like it when the competitive scene entirely changes (hence why snorlax is not in ubers in gsc)
also this was not a quickban
@@AlcheaNemesis Not really. UUbers was tried before. It was just an HO fest. Either u play HO or stall. U cant play any playstyles in between. If u do, ur team will just fold because either it doesnt have enough offenses, or not enough defensiveness to weather the assault.
I really would like to see what the meta game would be like if they unbanned all the pokemon they banned at the start of every new dlc.
They did that in Gen 5.
It devolves into an AG like clown show. If anything we need more fine tuned tiers at the upper reaches of the game. Like the recently started U-Ubers.
I'm basically at the bottom of the ladder so I never had a problem with this thing because people never switch out. Switch in my fucked up Goodra set I've been using for years now, completely wall the fucker, Acid Spray + Dragon Pulse for a clean kill.

I think that if bloodmoon came out before regular ursaluna it would have gotten quickbanned. But the fact that ursaluna came out and then turned out to be underwhelming despite the sky high expectations of it, gave some people pause about the strength of bloodmoon. As it turns out, there were enough differences between the two for a drastic shift in power. I think it’s good that time was taken to definitively determine these differences
I think speed is usually a big factor when it comes to Pokemon being broken, the main difference is that normal Ursaluna wears itself down and Bloodmoon is really bulky and has good recovery options. When you look at slower offensive Pokemon that were banned in some tiers like Mega Mawile, Melmetal, Kingambit and Magearna they all spend some time in their tiers prior to a ban because its always reasonable to assume that you can simply defeat them by being faster and disrupt or outoffense them.
Like I said
The Virgin Ursaluna vs The Chad Eviolite Ursaring
I remember when this got revealed, and people were saying it was going to be worse than base Ursaluna, with a lower attacking stat, worse speed bracket, and... I don't remember the other reason. Either way, I remember laughing to myself at that video, thinking this mon is what happens when Tinkaton gets good attack.
Regular Ursaluna is basically immune to status because everyone runs the guts/flame orb set.
That is something that BM doesn’t have. But BM has set up, healing, and a broken ability instead.
People also though that BM would be less bulky on the special side because BM has less health and special defense, but Calm Mind fixes that. A single Calm Mind boost also boost it’s special attack to similar levels to what Base has with a flame orb. So with all of that, BM becomes substantial better than base.
The Smogon forum for it is pretty hilarious. There were people who thought it would be UU at best, and that Blood Moon was bad because, in singles, it’s Boomburst but worse.
@@aldolibreri791your first point is moot because to accomplish that it kills itself, L. BMU has a better attacking profile for it's typing, a better ability and recovery that isn't rest or leftovers+protect.
It was always going to be as good as the other one, especially once we saw it's movepool
I was one of the skeptics of Ursaluna classic. I pointed out that without speed or priority it'd struggle as an offensive threat, and without recovery it'd struggle as a defensive one. Old Rampardos theorem struck again - people never learn.
Then Blood Moon came along and had both priority and healing, as well as a way to hit ghosts on the switch because why freaking not.
@@goobingtons To be fair people always ignore Bulk Up and Rest combination on Base Ursaluna. With this Setup you can fully invest into HP and Spdef. And Rest even negates the Burn Damage while asleep. Once you get a boost or two especially on Tera Normal the only way to really stop it is either. The Strongest Fighting Types in the game with High Base Power Moves to boot which have there own drawbacks 90 percent of the time. Or again on the Opposite Side Strong Fighting Special Attackers but how many of those are actually good?

As time goes on, and more of these basic broken pokemon that are keep getting created only for them to be banished to Ubers *(and proceed to not have any niche there whatsoever)* an UUbers doesn't seem so bad afterall.

@@scrunkorehonestly I'm open to renaming the tiers like divisions in high school sports in America. Division 1, 2, etc.
UUbers is a good idea if you think about it, a lot of Ubers suck in Ubers and would need UUbers to be used in any format legally. This makes it pretty clear UUbers are good seeing as how they cannot hurt and they make more pokemon able to be used.
That Bloodmoon art at the start was pretty cool. Not surprised by the banning, I've been racking my brain for counters that can endure its coverage
This is one of those pokemon that really feels designed around VGC where the fact that you can double into it and that its most threatening options are single target (-hyper voice which isn't really a guranteed part of the set) make it a scary but quite managable mon outside of trick room (and even then it still can be played around in all the usual trick room ways). Kind of an unfortunate side effect of pokemon leaning into vgc as an appeal for the games in the singles environment

My thoughts exactly! Like that kinda drawback and power works for tinkaton because it's one of few times game freak thought to give a pokemon a good type and move but not make it's states ridiculously high
It really isn't. You can get punished by spamming Gen 1 Hyper Beam recklessly.
Remember how Sirfetch'd signature move got blocked by a full recharge while Blood Moon on this OP beast gets barely any punishment?
It'd certainly constrain its movepool a bit more, but I think it might end up as powerful if a bit less versatile in moveset. Something like bm, calm mind, earth power, vacuum wave/hyper voice instead of potentially running moonlight.
@@digitaltailsmon4096It does not work for Tinkaton. She's seriously undertuned and went to generic support hell.
Tink's stats OR move should've had a drawback, both is too much for it to ever be truly great offensively like was the seeming intention of it's design.

I agree, but the problem is what you listed: Ice types. We know they are in a terrible place overall.
giving vacuum wave was so out of pocket. i think priority is what sends it over the edge of uber. the later in the game you get, vacuum wave invalidates more and more revenge killers as they are weakened or ursaluna is boosted.

ah yes smogon the worst ranking system ever created.
BMLuna is just GSC Snorlax with an ability, special attack instead of attack, defense instead of special defense, and the best stab any normal type has ever had ever
Blood Moon truly feels like the spiritual successor of Gen 1 Hyper Beam.
This Pokémon is just so versatile at overcoming counters. Blissey? Tera poison/steel with cm or body press. Corv comes in? Bulky cm outpaces it with moonlight recovery. And the examples keep on going.
Sure it does gave counters especially since it can only run one set at the end of the day so while it could counter one pokemon it is still weak to others, but if you pressure your openent and take out the right counters then its hard to stop.
Very easy to finish a game with bloodmoon or come in early/mid game and blow away a few pokemon for other teammates. Requires too much to counter and it's very monoploizing.
Darkrai should be tested in OU..I'm just curious to see how it'll fair in the new meta
Bloodmoon feels like another pokemon designed to speed up vgc matches but won't warp their meta game too much, but just be a perfect noob check that can make rounds go fast ala fluttermane chi yu
Singles is an afterthought in terms of their design, but with moves like scald and recover it seems pokemon did care a BIT about singles
