theres a few reasons your hood may not close all the way.i have not read every post so excuse me if I'm repeating anyone.all the vids i watched showed ppl replacing or messing with the latch itself which is sometimes necessary but since i just had this issue about 15 minutes ago i thought would add this.there are 2 rubber topped "bumpers" on top of the front of the engine compartment where the hood comes down.they screw in and out and are adustable in height.if there's no broken springs on the latch adjust them down.i think they move when u open the hood.at least mine do.hope this helps someone.

these rubber bumpers - are they closer to the windscreen than the front of the car - are those what you are talking about?

Thanks for the vid man. I was able to push the little spring back to its resting position with my finger and then tried to close the hood and boom, its closed

Great vid mate, just spent 90 dollars on a new part, which I reckon I didn't need and another 115 fitting it at Toyota. I barely open the hood myself. It's a 10 yr old car. This shouldn't happen. I gather all that was needed was to jiggle that little spring into place. Cheers.

Thanks a lot buddy! I followed your instruction fixed my problem. A new Hood lock for me Lexus ES350 is about $125 CAD on ebay + it will take about 3 weeks / one month to arrive. Fuck that! Just buy some extra springs of the same size and badabing badabang badaboom: Problem fixed!

this helped to understand the mechanism but i think your red piece on your cable is broken and needs to be set in the slot.

I know this is an older video, but does anyone have a recommendation for the spring? Mine is missing.

What’s another main probably cause it won’t close?

Springs can seize. You can try lubricating them. Broken release line. That plastic end can be broke. Mine is actually broken in this video but I make it work but it can give it too much slack some times.
