Paying hundreds of dollars a month more for a better L3 charging performance when I literally will never use just doesn't make sense to me, especially when the build quality, ride and snow performance of my Solterra absolutely trounces that of an equivalently priced Tesla. The vast majority of people barely travel 50 miles a day, let alone 200+. Sure, from time to time you might take a major road trip and go further afield. Just did BZ4X lease for wife. $119 a month using CT EV direct pay to dealer for down payment. We currently have Bolt EUV and this charges faster at all SOC.
There was recently an article about the least expensive EV’s. It found that the Ariya was selling on average about 30% below MSRP. So a ~$51k Ariya is getting off the lot for closer to $40k. That’s a crazy good deal.

Still enjoying my purchase of a new 2023 Bolt EUV in Colorado for $14,000. No mileage limit, Apple CarPlay, physical buttons, 250/260 mile range, heated front seats and steering wheel. Slow fast charging, but my main commutes are less than 60 miles per day.
I agree because I traded in my used 2015 Nissan Leaf for a 2020 Chevrolet Bolt EV Premier. The Bolt handles nicely and has way more range than I need for daily driving.
Yes. We were undecided between Ariya, ID.4, EV6, and Ioniq 5/6, but when we re-test-drove them, the interior of the Ariya was what sold us on it rather than the others.
@ 6:18 Honestly, cool flat floor but there should be something blocking from anything going towards the accelerator and break pedal, So easy for something to rollover under those and cause a accident.
personally i've been waiting for people to make vehicles with open floor space between driver and passenger to spread out legs on long drive. very much dislike the sports car boxed in design of front row seating in most high end suv these days. nissan sells a box that attaches to open floor space between driver and passenger that can keep bags and other stuff in place and keep things from flying over into driver foot controls space if that's a concern.
Nice video. I hate when they talk about how cheap these vehicles can be, but then show the top-of-the-line trims. Be consistent. Either show the lower-specced vehicles, or talk about the higher prices charged for the top-of-the-line trims.
Local dealer has the Ariya engage lease for $199 a month for month. I’m gonna give it a try as a second car and let my almost 18 year old drive my Subaru Forester. Between the two vehicles I think this is a great option
Thank you, they are great for what they are. They aren't the best at road trips but they're so much better built than Teslas. I have heard of Model 3 seats falling apart within the first 3 years/50,000kms. I got an amazing deal on a Subaru Solterra. I love it, it feeds my driving needs and with all of Toyota's experience with Hybrids I expect to have it for the next 20+ years.
Good review. Things I didn't notice you mention about the Ariya include: * In all but the lowest trim, it comes with an EVSE for home charging too. * The top-down parking view (on Evolve or higher trims) that makes parking super-easy. * The HUD. When choosing an EV, we didn't consider the Model Y to be desirable because of the inferior interior design/feel/build/comfort - those may be soft factors, but that was why we chose our Ariya over not just Tesla but VW, Kia, and Hyundai (Ariya's closest competitors IME - I'd say Ariya is on par with all those on the hard features, but superior on soft but important (and for us, deciding) factors such as interior design, quality, comfort, space, feel. On a 7-hour road trip, what would you rather have - 10-20 minutes less time charging, or all that time in a nicer, better built, more comfortable, more spacious, quieter car?
I think leasing makes way more sense right now. You get the $7500 tax credit because leases are considered commercial for whatever reason. That pretty much covers the lease payments for the 3 years.
Hell yeah!! I'm paying $365/month with ZERO down for 36 months on my bz4x. It's the price of a dinner with a family of 3 these days. 4WD model rock!! I love it.. charges slower than my Model Y but still get it done overnight. Drives smooth and fast. for the price I paid, just love it! been getting 250 miles on a full charge every time. not sure if it'll be the same during the winter time.
I took delivery of a 2024 BZ4X XLE model last week. I paid $500 down and the monthly payment is $266. It's a 3-year, 10,000 miles per year lease. Apparently, TM is offering such an incredible deal, most TM dealers are out of BZ4X in CA. TM also offers complimentary DC charging at EVGO for the initial year of ownership. To my understanding, there are no restrictions on the frequency of charging at EVGO stations. Nevertheless, the owner's manual advises against DC charging the BZ4X model more than three times per day. Moreover, EVGO stations are relatively scarce. I've encountered occasional glitches with the UI during Apple CarPlay usage. However, I find the vehicle comfortable, and the one-pedal driving option, despite being a point of contention for some, suits my driving style well, achieving up to 5 miles per kilowatt-hour efficiency. Among minor complaints are the insufficient brightness of the interior LED lights, lack of a glove box, small storage space in the first row, the annoying alarm sound when you are in reverse, subpar resolution of the backup camera, and the lack of illumination on the door lock/unlock buttons at night. Would I buy the car for $48,000 before tax and license? No. For that price, you can get a Blazer EV, a Bolt EV/EUV, a Model 3 refresh, or a Model Y. I am certain the next EV from TM will be vastly improved. The show has just begun for TM.

Aryia evolve plus awd has a consistent range of 326 and it’s a nice driving vehicle. Nice driving and zero to 60 mph in 4.8 this vehicle drives and rides very well for my better half. The lease deals are excellent and it’s very attractive in pearl white.
I drove the 2024 nissan aryia evolve+ trim and there was b mode and e-pedal options. The b mode was less aggressive one pedal driving requiring me to use the brakes to come to a stop from higher speeds. The e-pedal option was aggressive one pedal driving that only required me to use the brake to come to a full stop once the car had slowed to a slowly creeping speed. I was told the reason e-pedal was designed this way was to ensure brake calipers are lightly used on a regular basis so they don't seize up from lack of use. Something they had issues with on nissan leaf's that have full stop one pedal driving design.
I like the Nissan because it offers the electric doggle to use at home. In my state, I have not seen charging stations anyway except for two at a retirement community. How long do electric car batteries last before they are replaced? Or do they last forever and not have to be replaced? For example, in my internal combustion car, my battery had to be replaced after 4 years. The previous battery I had in my car before the one replaced, lasted 6 years. The average battery life of an internal combustion car is 3 to 5 years.
For the newest EVs, the batteries ought to outlast the car itself. They are of a much higher quality compared to the 12v batteries that all cars use to start up.
I think people underestimate the value of having a local dealer. A problem is more likely to be resolved by staff who actually have to face the customer.
@@ChargeToDrive None, not even in the industry. Across all products, real customer service is becoming rare. This is even more important when you don't live near a major centre.
take a drive to most of the national parks in california and it doesn't matter what brand you drive there is no local dealers or even cell phone service in the event that an issue arises. for those outdoor adventure roadtrips having vehicles that just don't fail, and if an EV access to charging stations, is super important.
Thank you for this video. I have a Solterra and love it for the family car and my daily commute. My son has a Model 3 and IMO the Solterra is much more comfortable for everyday driving.
Before watching - Both of these are valid options for people who don't want a Tesla, but for different reasons. The Nissan offers the "comfortable appliance" appeal of the Camry. This is such a different customer base, I don't even really consider the model y and Nissan competitors. The Toyota is appealing for those who want a conventional car that just so happens to be an EV. Hence the traditional controls. If I had to rank them bZ4X, model y, and Nissan in ascending order. Let's see if TFL agrees
As an Ariya owner who tried all three, I quite agree. Ariya interior design and quality is so much nicer than Tesla's. Tesla charging network is great for road trips though. bZ4X is nice enough, but isn't exciting and lacks in specs. I'd only pick Toyota if I could save a lot of money with that choice, and didn't want to invest more to get more.
@@jamespaul2587 Exactly. I work from home and I haven't put more than 7000 miles a year on my car in 10 years. I would probably opt to pay a little more per month and get 10K.
@oregonziggy2391 yes, 10k would be a more comfortable number to allow for more trips. This could also work well as a commuter vehicle and/or second car for many when work is close or when driving to a train or subway.
Tommy I watch TFL videos because YOU and several of your colleagues on the channel are solid, good people!! -- Many of my friends and family are conscientious people that care about the environment and where they spend their money. I'm glad you made this video showing the many advantages of these cars as quite honestly none of us want a Tesla!!
Recent ev adoption has shown us that a lot of folks are living in condo or apartments that do not have any charging options. With the heightened demand on the dc charging options I feel these cars are only worth it for a limited number of people.
In Canada, we can only dream of these lease rates! The Subaru Solterra (bZ4X rebadged) commands over $400 per month...almost four times the amount quoted in the video.....
I've been driving EVs & PHEVs for over a decade and not once have I ever used a DC fast charger other than for novelty purposes. Like most people, I charge at home/destinations, don't drive 200-300mi a day, and don't go on constant road trips. If I want to put 2,000 miles on a car for a road trip, I'll just rent someone else's ICE vehicle!
I'm leasing a 2024 AWD XLE bZ4X for $230 a month for 36 months, with 2K down. Easy to charge at home and we have a CX-5 for long trips. It's perfect as a second car.
At the current lease offers out there, these are great cars. Was just quoted $324/month for 10k miles per year on an Ariya Evolve+ eForce - totally reasonable. These two cars only suck if you live in a youtube comment section and not the real world.
For anyone looking for an electric SUV without going for a Tesla, the Toyota bZ4X is a clear winner. Great performance, long range, and a smooth driving experience, all wrapped in Toyota's reliable engineering.
If the deals are comparable then Ariya is a better vehicle comparable to Lexus RZ450e since this Nissan Ariya is practically an Infiniti. It charges consistently and has a flat curve. However there is a huge mess in Ariya trims: you want some features, you get a trim which has no other features. To have a longer range the trim has to have basic features. One cannot have all features in the same Ariya. If someone will say it is much worse charging than a Hyundai Ioniq5 then the situation becomes different on long trips relying on 400 V (for now) Tesla Superchargers with an adapter then Ariya is going to keep flat 160 kW while Ioniq5 will be forced under 80 kW due to internal conversion to 800 V architecture. Yes, everything is going to change when Tesla V4 will be deployed but it will be a while until it happens.
For us, the Evolve 87 kWh FWD trim had the feature mix we wanted. On long trips, the charging speed has been fine, and the interior comfort/experience makes those trips quite pleasant. I'd much rather have the Ariya interior than the Hyundai/Kia or Kira max fast-charging speeds.
We have 2 bz4x in our businessfleet and several Model Y... . The Y charges faster, has slightly more range. The Bz4x is as efficiënt as the Tesla, less noise, far better comfort and warranty.
Please start amortizing all down payments on leases over the term of the lease so that the actual cost of each becomes apparent when you are comparing them ??
is there some simple math, or lease calculator page, that helps with this? in my first time exploration of leasing options i'm just taking down payment / # months of lease and adding it to monthy payment. doesn't sound like an amortization calculation.
@@myusrn that's exactly it. That's what we need to do to successfully compare. Otherwise they'll come out with a lease with 20k down and $5 per month and say it's the cheapest monthly payment in the country

Here's the crazy part. Most and this applies to more then 85 % of all drivers... do not drive more then 50 miles a day.. let's give that a bump.. to 100 miles a day.. that an average of less then 3,000 miles a month... yet again that's a 100 or less miles a day... so charging is not gonna be an issue ever...
all the talk about a lease... i could never lease. The mileage limits are unrealistic for me. Especially 5k as Tommy stated in the video. I bought a new Elantra Hybrid and in 2 months I am just about to hit 5k miles already.
I do prefer the Subaru solterra, they just need to improve a little bit the charging curve, I don't want to see it drop below 50kw till after 80% 100 is fine but just don't be dropping into the 30s

Between these 2 choices, I would take the Nissan. Drop the price down 10-15K and it would be a fair deal. I would seek out a Tesla product if you had not showcased its piss poor build quality. Battery and performance in a Tesla 3 is superb. And if all you care about is chewing up tires quietly, by all means. OR stay tuned for the Dodge Charger Daytona EV coming soon. That I got my eye on. ;) If you want superb history of refined quality in your EV. Pick the Mercedes. That I had my eye on until the pre-mentioned DCD was announced.
Even if it weren't for the quality issues the toxic attitude of the Tesla stans would be enough to dissuade me from ever buying one of their products. But leasing is a losing deal, your better off waiting until these hit the used market at a greatly reduced price, then you get the savings no matter what your tax bracket is.
1:37 : « Ariya in our Area » I loved that. Went to an Auto Show recently, I really liked the Ariya’s interior. I still prefer my 2018 Model 3 but hey, who knows.

There is no doubt Tesla is light years ahead of all manufacturers in innovation and mostly in software ( okay their stereo also blows everyone away ). What is not clear to me is that the quality of the ride and construction and long term robustness are comparable to something like the Toyota.

We have a 2023 bZ4X Limited AWD. City dwellers, rarely drive freeway, charge at home, it's perfect for us. No range issues at all.
Tommy is a great salesperson. After watching his videos, I think, "Man, I got to get one of those."
The Ariya is so underrated. The range is actually accurate vs the dreams of Teslas highway range. You can get these in the used market for cheap.
I really like the interior of the Ariya. A good balance between too minimalist and too busy.
Yes. We were undecided between Ariya, ID.4, EV6, and Ioniq 5/6, but when we re-test-drove them, the interior of the Ariya was what sold us on it rather than the others.
@ 6:18
Honestly, cool flat floor but there should be something blocking from anything going towards the accelerator and break pedal, So easy for something to rollover under those and cause a accident.
personally i've been waiting for people to make vehicles with open floor space between driver and passenger to spread out legs on long drive. very much dislike the sports car boxed in design of front row seating in most high end suv these days. nissan sells a box that attaches to open floor space between driver and passenger that can keep bags and other stuff in place and keep things from flying over into driver foot controls space if that's a concern.
Leasing the Toyota for $129 in my area is pretty appealing. I already have an EV with actual fast charging.
Yeah, at list price, the bZ4X is a *TERRIBLE* deal. But with Toyota incentives, it can be a decent "around town" vehicle.
Ariya all the way. People crap in these EVs, but they are the best value for money.
Nice video. I hate when they talk about how cheap these vehicles can be, but then show the top-of-the-line trims. Be consistent. Either show the lower-specced vehicles, or talk about the higher prices charged for the top-of-the-line trims.
Car manufacturers will typically only send out the top trims as PR vehicles.
Things I didn't notice you mention about the Ariya include:
* In all but the lowest trim, it comes with an EVSE for home charging too.
* The top-down parking view (on Evolve or higher trims) that makes parking super-easy.
* The HUD.
Just leased a fed bz4x and could not be happier with it.
I think leasing makes way more sense right now. You get the $7500 tax credit because leases are considered commercial for whatever reason. That pretty much covers the lease payments for the 3 years.
Very eye opening, definitely an option for around town use, thanks Tommy
Just picked up a 2023 Ariya fully loaded Platinum + for about 50% of MSRP after 1 year. Incredible buy. Get a 1 year old car and SAVE$$$!!
"TM"? Who calls Toyota "TM"? Oh, yeah, Toyota Motors employees.
@@AnonymousFreakYT TM is the stock symbol for Toyota just like TSLA is for Tesla or AAPL for Apple. For the record, I am not a TM employee.
@@robertlee7332 Nobody calls them "TM" when speaking about the vehicles. Just as nobody calls Tesla "TSLA" when talking about the vehicles. Or "AAPL" when talking about an iPhone. Or "F" when talking about a Mach-E.
@@AnonymousFreakYT 🤣you just got educated, I've known what he was talking about for some years from being in this industry along time, your just unfamiliar with it,
@@99unclebobnah, he's being intentionally confusing for no apparent reason. Making up acronyms and shit. Just say Toyota so we can actually comment on your points. Instead, people are commenting on his idiotic choice of acronyms which is ironic because they're supposed to make speech easier, not harder.
You forgot to say Ariya nissan has 2 glove compartments and also cones with heated seats as the Toyota. The Ariya comes with the cable to plug it in your house outlet 120v. I drove the model yY and didn't like it.
Aryia evolve plus awd has a consistent range of 326 and it’s a nice driving vehicle. Nice driving and zero to 60 mph in 4.8 this vehicle drives and rides very well for my better half. The lease deals are excellent and it’s very attractive in pearl white.
Ariya doesnt have 1 pedal driving. It still creeps and only brings you to 10 mph
My leaf has the auto brake function. It is disappointing they didn't include it on the Ariya.
You guys are getting really good at your one. Take videos, Tommy, and Alex.🎉🎉❤❤
Trick question. Just get a Hyundia Ioniq 5.
Indeed, if you don't want to get a Tesla, these are literally the two you don't want to get... Oh and don't get a vinfast
There’s the answer
Yessir
Or a Kia EV 6 Gt line
Nooo dont!
Nice video Tommy love this review of non Tesla cars. I like both cars .
Very interesting, which dealership are you working for.
The lease is awful with a 5k mile a year limit.
WOW that IS awful!
It's for Grandma who just goes to the grocery store every few days.
@kabloosh699 or someone who works from home and just needs it for errands and occasional longer trips.
Picked up a 24 Solterra last June. So much better in the real world than the numbers suggest.
i'm from toronto canada, why we don't get so much deals?
Recent ev adoption has shown us that a lot of folks are living in condo or apartments that do not have any charging options. With the heightened demand on the dc charging options I feel these cars are only worth it for a limited number of people.
I wanted to like the bZ4X but the charging situation is utter nonsense. People struggle to hit even 50kW a lot of the time.
It’s slower than a bolt
I wonder why my lease monthly payment is 1200 a month ! 36 months I put 1500 down ! 😭
At the current lease offers out there, these are great cars. Was just quoted $324/month for 10k miles per year on an Ariya Evolve+ eForce - totally reasonable. These two cars only suck if you live in a youtube comment section and not the real world.
LOL exactly.
For anyone looking for an electric SUV without going for a Tesla, the Toyota bZ4X is a clear winner. Great performance, long range, and a smooth driving experience, all wrapped in Toyota's reliable engineering.
Any comments about the recent update?
Has anybody leased an FWD toyota in Arizona recently how many miles did you get on a 36 month lease ?
Was this a charity project or something?
I just bought the Nissan Ariya Engage+ AWD for $199/mo with $0 down and 10K miles/yr.
@sparklander - which dealer offered you that deal?
Please start amortizing all down payments on leases over the term of the lease so that the actual cost of each becomes apparent when you are comparing them ??
is there some simple math, or lease calculator page, that helps with this? in my first time exploration of leasing options i'm just taking down payment / # months of lease and adding it to monthy payment. doesn't sound like an amortization calculation.
@@myusrn that's exactly it. That's what we need to do to successfully compare. Otherwise they'll come out with a lease with 20k down and $5 per month and say it's the cheapest monthly payment in the country
yesterday Grabbed the last bz4x FWD with a couple added features from the show room. msrp $46,500 but was able to haggle $17k off. OTD $31,600 12K miles at 3 Years for $344 a month and only put $1,000 down. I mean I can door dash or uber this thing...
Great review!!!!
Uh oh...musk fanboys are going to be upset. You are only allowed to mention the name to praise or worship.
They only mentioned Tesla to get clicks for this mediocre video idea.
For this kind of videos you should bring the actual base models instead of the fully loaded versions. Show the car that has the lease deals you talk about
The Subaru Soltera (which is the same thing as the toyota) has some really low lease offers right now. If you don't need a lot of range, there's a lot of good deals to be had.
Much nicer than my model 3.
I bought a new Elantra Hybrid and in 2 months I am just about to hit 5k miles already.
i think the nissan looks better and feels better
I’m in New Jersey and minimum lease $2K down payment with $650 a months for 3 years commitment 😔
I do prefer the Subaru solterra, they just need to improve a little bit the charging curve, I don't want to see it drop below 50kw till after 80% 100 is fine but just don't be dropping into the 30s
Have bought a Toyota BZ4X after looking at all electric cars Best car I ever drove. Charges quick. 550. Per charge Guaranteed for over 10 years. Any other car manufacturer with that Guarantee. Y. Space of a van. Speed. Excellent. Friends have bought other. E cars no comparison cost to charge with home charger great value. U only complain when u don’t have one. If get the best. After all it is a Toyota with loads of extras as stander
I was always told to "never put money down on a lease".
Nice to see proper reviews. The comments from trolls are a joke 😅
All the first ID4 3yr leases are coming up just in time for these deals.
Too bad these lease deals don't exist in Canada or I'd probably get one
We have the Federal rebate depending on where you are a Provincial rebate and dealer markdowns!
I’ll take my bolt euv redline over both of these. The Nissan is a close second choice though.
is this a commercial?
I would go with the Blazer EV.
Cheap leases in Colorado make me want to live there.
5.000 miles a year I drive 4,000 miles a month.i can't lease this review shows these EV as nice great
Between these 2 choices, I would take the Nissan.
5k miles for a lease is insane. Buy a Civic and it’ll last you longer, used then one of these. Great video guys.
Definitely going with Chevy or Ford if not Tesla.
Tommy! bZ4X is NOT excellent vehicle by any means ....
Stop it
Have you driven one?
I don't think ppl realize the range of the base Tesla cars arent that great
and the range they advertise is overly exaggerated by alot
1:37 : « Ariya in our Area »
I loved that.
Went to an Auto Show recently, I really liked the Ariya’s interior. I still prefer my 2018 Model 3 but hey, who knows.
The enthusiasm in this was outstanding. ❤
Is this from the TFLOnion channel? The humor is at so many levels, like let's go to a Toyota dealership for a dealer mark down!
Until the untelsa builders catch up with the charging network they will loose all their rv sales. Telsa's super chargers is what makes them useable on long trips.
Just bought a used bZ4x AWD Executive Bitone 2022 for $47.300. Tesla is cheaper, but didnt want a Model Y
Nissan, not Neeessan
Is this a April fools video?
Nope
Looks like ur the fool who missed out on this deal
Lol 129-200a month with 4k down not 1000
I actually thought something similar
I like these cars, but he did a terrible job at the beginning selling them. I don't know for sure what he was going for but you don't have to repeat that they are lackluster and not number 1 so many times.
The 5,000 mile a year limit is not good not even a little miles must be 10 k or more a year period.. to be a good lease ... deal
"Which EV should you go for if you DON'T want a Tesla - Toyota bZ4-"
"The other one."
Unless the other one is a Fisker. In that case, the bZ4X looks like the longer lived car.
Open pore wood? Make it a no-pore plastic.
Throw the id4 in there and it will beat those even being several years old
There is no doubt Tesla is light years ahead of all manufacturers in innovation and mostly in software ( okay their stereo also blows everyone away ). What is not clear to me is that the quality of the ride and construction and long term robustness are comparable to something like the Toyota.
Got my 24 Ariya for 20k off so 33k out the door.
The lease company must get the incentives, tax credits and rebates and uses them as the downpayment? Leasing maybe the best way to go. Just in case the market falls out from under these EVs, you will not lose your shirt
