As a 74 y/o 17 handicap 85 mph swing speed player, I have found that the golf balls that work best for my game are whatever balls my kids/grandkids give me for my birthday or Christmas.
I've been playing golf ever since 1968. I've played at the pro level. So I'm going to add my opinion. I'm going to refer to normal golfers, not those with medical handicaps, etc. If you are playing over a 15 handicap, then you don't have the playing skills, control or feel to make good use of the high end ball such as a Pro-V1 or TP5. Save your money and stick with the likes of Bridgestone Precept Laddies and Callaway Supersoft. They are cheap and provide some feel. If you play between 14 and 9, you can afford to be more picky. Use a ball that has a compression compatible with you swing speed. You can also be picky about the softness of the outer layer, 2 piece, 3 piece ball etc. If you play in single digits, I recommend you buy the highest quality balls on the market that will best suit your game. The only way to determine that is by trial and error. Also, take geography into consideration. Are you playing hardpan courses like in Texas? Or are you playing up north on soft bent greens. Are you playing in windy conditions all the time or hardly any. ie. a high trajectory ball or a low screamer. Are the greens on your home course soft or rock hard? ie. rock hard greens might require a soft cover ball in order to have good spin control. Soft greens where you are repairing deep pitch marks might allow you to get away with a harder skinned ball - Srixon Q Star vs Q Star tour or Pro-V1x vs Pro-V1. cold winter conditions require a softer lower compression ball. So have a winter ball and a summer ball. It's best to consult a PGA Pro on your game. Basically, it'll come down to trial and error with what works best for you on your course. Keep a notebook and write notes on which ball you used on which course, pluses and minuses.
I use the Divide orange / yellow balls and LOVE them i am 59 years old and a 94 mph swing speed 8 handicap also love the NEW 2024 AVX TITLEIST and Callaway ERC Soft those are my 3 favorite golf balls In the spring time and fall time i use the Srixon softfeel or the Callaway supersoft great review boys well done cheers from Vulcan Canada
??? Just clarifying; my guess is you’re in snow country, so you don’t play in the winter. You’re using something like the Divide in spring, the AVX in summer, and the Divide again in fall ???
Thanks for this golfball review. I have recently started using the Q Star Tour Devide Red & Yellow, and I really like the ball flight and distance. With my 95 MPH swing speed, they just work for me. Keep the videos coming guys.
Great point! I float around 105 mph with the big stick but yet my ball of choice is the Chrome soft, less side spin, good distance. I have played the higher compression golf balls and for me the higher compression a golf ball has the more side spin it could generate off the big stick, not all, but most. They are doing some amazing things with golf balls these days to manage the spin/distance on all clubs in the bag. I prefer a softer feeling ball that gives me the distance of a higher compression ball. I’m pumped to see what Callaway developed with the new line of Chrome soft balls, the new tour ball could be the best of both worlds. Great video guys!
Good video guys. My swing speed is right at 100mph. I tend to go with the Vice Pro or the Wilson Triad. But if I'm not swinging it well that weekend, I'll pull my Wilson Optix out because loosing them doesn't hurt over the better more expensive ball I like.... Keep it up guys!
Interesting! I am a slow swinger and have tested several “soft balls”. For me Callaway Chrome Soft is shortest of them of the driver. Srixon Q-star Tour is a rather good ball for me. For me Titleist AVX is the longest and best overall ball. Great feel! Maybe a little low flight. TaylorMade Tour Response fly higher, but is shorter from tee. There is a lot more than compression to consider, such as feel/sound, flight, spin and look. And price. And brand, possibly. I am 60+ with a swing speed below 80 mph.
I agree with trying different brands of balls. I myself have done this and have found that it really does make a difference when you compare your current ball to a different brand you wouldn’t think of using. You will notice a difference in your distance and feel around the greens. It will take time, but you will find the ball that best fits your game. Good luck.
I have a good short game and wanted green-side spin, the Titleist ball fitter said I should give up the distance with the driver for the spin around the green and use a Pro V1. I'm happy to see you verified a mid priced ball, like the Taylor MadeTour Response, which I use, still gives me the spin I need with the added distance.
I want to thank you and all the other hookers and slicers. For every tour ball I buy, I find 3 in the ruff and edges of the woods. It really brings down the price of playing tour quality balls.😊
I am 85 years old. My swing speed has now dropped to 84+- mph. I have experimented with balls. The less expensive ball just done give more yardage. Pro V1 is the best even for my swing speed. I tried the pro V1x. at the end of last year and was getting slightly more distance with it,(3-5 yards). I would like to see a test with speeds from 94 to 80 mph. My testing was actual distance using my radar for swing speed. I heard, but do not know for sure, that on the ladies tour many are using the Titleist prov1x
I stumbled upon the Q-Star Tour Divide a few months ago with them on sale and haven’t looked back since! I do have a slower swing speed and this ball I saw the results on the course vs playing the cheaper ball in Mizuno or Callaway Warbirds. Now that I know the Q Star Tour is my go to I’m only putting it against the Titleist AVX and Bridgestone RXS for competition. Looking forward to what works best for me. Love the content you guys are making 🙌🏽
I just got fitted for clubs. The master fitter had me hit different balls after i got fitted, i lacked spin and height. The balls he suggested i go with TP5X, Z star diamond, vice pro soft, Bridgestone tour BX..i tried all of them yesterday while playing a round they all worked great .. i shot an 87. i will narrow further... great video i will try the divide next
Goes to show you a mid-capper sees very little difference between ball models. And The suggestion of them putting you in a TP5x or Vice Pro Soft? Funny cause you couldn't get any farther apart across the spectrum then those 2 balls
I'm in my early 70s with a swing speed of about 90, maybe a little higher on a good day. I got ball fitted and was recommended the Taylormade TP5x because I could use more spin, especially since our club has firm greens that are fast and hard to hold. On very windy days however, I like the Bridgestone BX. I think that an underappreciated issue is how a ball comes off the putter face. Some balls roll significantly longer or shorter than other balls with the same stroke, plus there is a big range of feel between some balls.
Great video. I am a golf junkie. Golf balls are difficult to quantify because where you strike it makes a difference. My driver speed is 101 but I hit the center of the clubface. I have used everything but ProV1X- is the best ball for me and it's a hard golf ball. Long off driver and it spins around the greens. Just adding to the conversation fellas.
Hey...don't hate on the Nitros. They have their place in my bag...usually reserved for forced carry over water. lol I played them exclusively as a newbie not knowing how many balls I would be losing a round. Only after figuring out I'm not going to lose as many as I thought have I ventured out to other balls. My favorites are Srixon Soft Feel (mid-irons), Volvik Vivid (chipping, even though it feels like I'm hitting a chunk of ice), and Bridgestone RBX (off the tee). I play the cheaper balls on first few visits to a new course and temps. For putting practice, I have some TourResponse...that stripe is perfect to figure out how I'm putting that day. Makes it very easy to dial in on the practice green before a round.
Listen. Let me start off with saying long comment! I stumbled across you guys, just in thought of getting back into the game. 10 videos and couple hours later watching on 1.75 speed. I was like ok! I’m sold. So now I’m Swinging the Srixon ZX5’s. Just wanted to say Thank you for the videos the commentary the back and fourth is great!!!!! I’ve taken both of y’all’s advise to heart. I feel like I’ve known you both for ever!!!! Keep it up Embers!!!!!
I hover around 102mph-105mph swing speed. If I really get after it I can hit 107mph. I feel like I’m in a weird spot. I love Srixon Z Star XV’s. But I played the other day with the Blue Bridgestone and when I got after it, it felt amazing. If I miss hit it, it felt like I hit a rock. 🤦🏻♂️😂 thanks for doing the hard hitting work here.
Yeah, it’s a tough spot. I know a lot of guys that change balls depending on time of year and location that they play. When you right on the edge you can tinker with it for sure. Thanks for watching and for the support Jake. We appreciate the support man 🙌
Great video with great information for us lower swing speed guys I love the Titleist ProV1 but now play the Callaway SuperSoft Had my swing speed check and found out it’s 87.7 for 70 years old I was disappointed…thought it would be higher I searched for a lower compression ball because of what you showed here and landed on the Supersoft I’ve picked up more yards and around the greens it works very well I’ll be looking into the divides Thanks for the effort you put into your videos New Sub 👍⛳️👍
When I got into golf(three years ago), I played Callaway Super Soft Red Matte balls(AYO). Last year I switched to Callaway Chrome Soft X and sometimes I’ll use X(LS). The Red Matte were the softest feeling when I would flush them. Once I got hip to distance, spin, and all the other stats balls do, I upgraded to the Chrome Softs and noticed a huge gain in distance and spins. I’ll try the Q Star as my swing speed for irons is hovering around 90MPH when I’m on. If I baby swing it’s around 80. Thanks for this informative video👊🏽🏌🏽
Last fitting swing low to mid 90. Played original Q star 3 or 4 years ago and loved it. Switched between that a z star depending on what was on offer. Been playing tour response especially the stripe which is so good for putting alignment feels like i cant miss. Middle of winter here so course short and very wet and found Q star tour divide for £20 per dozen, absolute bargain and enough to pay for winter golf. Orange and yellow better visibility from distance on green than blue and yellow, they seem to disappear if they land blue side up until you get closer. Right in what you are saying better distance and feel from softer ball at my speed. Jason Shaw hi 4.5 Yorkshire UK
Nice. I figured out myself that my 93mph swing is best served with a slightly over 70 compression ball. The Srixon divide was just too loud for me, the tour response stripe is really great. Alignment is obviously super, and luckily if the stripe is facing the wrong way between tee to green it doesn't distract me (phew) Agree that if you do hit the middle pretty OK, go for a urethane cover if you can. Z-star (without the XV) is still pretty soft by the way, would not compare it to Prov1
@embersgolf One thing about tge TM Tour Response is itbdoesn't play as well in the wind, it's a close second, it does stop on the green (mostly) but has more side spin it seems. QST just flies straighter for me anyways.
Great vid as usual, this just shows that ball fitting is just as important as club fitting. Not ever ball will work for every player. I myself have experimented with a lot of higher end balls, I tend to generate higher spin naturally so I try to go with lower spin balls. I found for myself with an average driver swing speed of 108 mph that the Bridgestone Tour B X I tend to get the best performance all around. Pro V1X for me is a close second with TayloMade TP5 a distant 3rd. I don't get along with Srixon or Callaway in any version for some reason that I haven't figured out yet.
If we're talking about average speeds, then here I am: ~95mph with driver, ~80 mph with 7-iron. 4 hcp. I've done a lot of testing with my LaunchPro and played many, many, MANY rounds with all kinds of balls, from Left Dash to Supersoft. Firmer golf balls travel further with driver, but it's not by a lot - the Left Dash and the Vice ProPlus are the only ones I've played that are longer by any substantial amount (meaning by more than 5 yards or so), and they are very firm. But firmer balls are considerably shorter with irons. They spin more and I don't generate the speed needed to get them to their window - you have to hit a firmer ball harder to get it to go with an iron. I do tend to get very consistent distances with tour balls, however, partly I think because the firmer balls have better consistency of spin, which helps with distance control. I just don't have the length to be giving up 7+ yards on every iron shot. The sweet spot for me is around 70-80 compression. This includes Bridgestone BRX, Taylormade Tour Response, Oncore Elixir, Callaway ERC Soft, Titleist Tour Soft, Vice Pro Soft, and several others I can't think of. These balls are just firm enough to not lose much or any distance off the tee, but soft enough to get a nice healthy flight and pick up distance with irons. Well, with every other club other than driver, really. The lower spin of these balls doesn't affect my game - I don't carry a 60° wedge and I do most of my short game low and running with pitching wedge, 9-iron, 52° and occasionally 58°.
Watched 3 videos in a row, commented on everyone. (Straight stalker mode) but I would trust you for a fitting, (how much do you love being able to test drive the latest and greatest) (dream job) Keep the videos coming
It is a ton of fun! Love being able to get into all the new gear. Its a Dream Job thats for sure! Thanks for subscribing and for supporting the channel 💚
If you research the information on their websites/packaging, manufacturers will tell you what ball is best for your swing speed. I think there are also some TH-cams that talk about different balls for your swing speed.
Been through every ball myself. Qstar Tour and Zstar are great everywhere. If I want straight, long and feel, I go QST. If a shot requires some shape... Z star. QSTAR Tour DIVIDE RULE if they are orange/yellow
100% right I use the srixon divide I’m old (weaker) I like alot , tour response is pretty good also . Very good around the greens. I’m also using two full face milled wedges fir more bite ! “Divide an conquer” 😆😁😎
Saw Wilson balls perform very well on a robot test. They make balls for everyday players as well as scratch golfers. What is your view on their feel around the green?
I previously used to use the QStar divide but after I upgraded to a Bettinardi putter then I didnt care for the divide anymore on the green based on the feel off the putter. The higher quality putter gave more feedback and can definitly tell the difference. Gave the vice pro a try and am pleased with it. It is also a 3 peice urethane cover but not the matt finish which has mixed reviews on its pros/cons versus the traditional finish. Also was able to get a few dozen on clearance at Sams club after christmas for a steal so that was also a win. But the two are comparable in price and characteristics.
My driver head speed is around 108 (and am working on more speed) and high spinning balls sail right for me. I hit the Kirkland V3's for 6 months and everything sailed right off the driver face. I hit the ProV1's (yellow) and I've never hit farther and straighter. And also get a few more yards out of my irons. I now carry both balls in my bag. I hit the kirklands with irons on high risk holes (major water, etc) and hit the ProV's on basically everything else. Lol! 😂
Great video guys. I tested the Wilson Triad vs Srizon Q Star Tour Divide 2023 models for a few rounds, I shot my best round so far with the Q stars, but they roll out a lot more on chip shots. The cover on the (pre-2024) divides feels a lot less grippy and a lot harder than the Triad, ProV1x and other premium urethane covers. The triads check up nicely on chip shots and greenside bunker shots, the divides roll out 2yards further, usually costing me another putting stroke. On driver, swing speed 115mph, the Qstars also feel weak while the Triads explode off the face with a great sound and feel. This is why the Triads are staying in my bag. For these new 2024 divides Srixon claims a stickier urethane cover, can you guys back this claim up?
I like how you guys say "the golfing ball" I am gonna start saying it that way. I just like it lol. Thats crazy to think that the average D speed is under 95. My mom was with me on the simulator and she was averaging 59mph. After our session she hits the ball 85mph now. little change in technique ramped her speed up without swinging faster. Magical lol.
This is such a good video 🔥 i just use the most budget friendly balls right now. As I progress further and have more money then I’ll decide a specific ball to hit. Great video as always guys 🔥 🎉
There are simply too many variables to answer this question by swing speed alone. Driver loft, swing speed, delivery, angle of attack, etc etc. all play a part in an informed ball choice. And that means getting fitted. I’m a 5 handicap with a low swing speed of 92mph average driver. 70mph 7 iron. TP5x has been the best performer for me from fairway to green. I fell for the old slow speed soft ball adage for years and used Wilson soft balls. The difference when I switched to TP5, ProV1 and the X versions was dramatic. If in doubt, get fitted. But there is no one size fits all by swing speed. Golf is far too subtle a game for simple answers like that.
Premiuming (Tour) golf balls are better for everyone if you can afford them. Yes you may lose a little distance in some cases, however anyone that knows golf knows your shots to the green and around the green is where you score. And the premium balls are far superior at this. And all the premiums come in soft and harder which is usually designated by an X. And I know for a fact that the softest ball made by Taylor Made is their TP5 at a 50 compression which is their tour ball.
I’m curious with the color, I always lose the golf ball in the sky. Does the divide color make it easier to see in the sky? Also do you recommend specific ‘golf’ sunglasses?
Srixon had a sale three for two at the end of the year last year. I bought some of the Q Star balls. I’ve been playing the Taylor Made Soft Response before that and they were really working great for me. But the Q Star is working better for me than the TM. I’m 74 years old and my swing speed shows it. Loving the Q Star. Maybe the Soft Response was too soft for me. I don’t know.
I've been playing golf on and off for about 20 years. I've never put much thought into the ball and have actually never purchased balls before. I just use the ones I find or get free from bank reps. After watching this review, I think I might need to put a little more thought into what ball I use. My Pings are also 20 years old and I play with an R7 from 2004 and all work fine for me. My friends say it's time to upgrade clubs but I tell them mine work fine and I won't fall for fancy marketing. But that's just me.
I am 65 years old and do not see a huge difference in balls. I have played under par with a top flight XL5000 and with tour quality balls. I find the tour quality promote more confidence and consistency. My swing speed is between 96 and 104 mph. Smash factor of 1.42. Handicap around 6. It boils down to how much your trust the ball to stop on the green for myself.
I’ll take a Srixon Z-Star and now I’m trying the new 74 compression Srixon Q-Star Tour all day. The money I save vs the overrated/overpriced Pro-V will go to a fifth of nice gin from time to time. Cheers!!!
I play with the Kirkland balls from Costco. They're a 90 compression ball with a urethane cover, and at £30 for *TWO* dozen balls I think they're excellent value for the average golfer. They last pretty well too. Tomorrow I'll be playing my 6th game in a row with the same ball which hardly has a mark on it.
@@Tin5674 Thanks, I know, but they stop very quickly on the greens! Sure, distance is affected by the spin and there's not much runout on the fairways right now as it's winter here and no one is getting runout. I normally hit up quite a bit so I'm used to no runout and base my course management on carry, not total distance. The Kirklands are fine for me. If I were a very low handicapper and 40 years younger I might think differently. 🙂
I'm a 4 handicap with a 95 mph clubhead speed on driver. I've been playing the Q Star Tour for a few years now. Yeah, I object to paying the premium price on the ProV1 or comparable. I've shot my lowest round (67) with the Q Star Tour, and I like the softer feel.
I have an 85 mph swing speed and have been playing the Wilson 50s Green golf balls. I average around 240-250 drives and would like to increase around 20-30 yards if possible and will be your slow swing speed test subject.
hey boys - just ran across your channel this past week. Good stuff! I'm down in Highlands Ranch so gonna come up to the store and check you guys out here soon.
See, ive heard so many different takes on this lol. Some people say dont worry about what it does off the tee and work from the green back. These guys say that around the green there isnt much difference and where it matters is off the tee. This is what makes me think that it's all about preference. That's not a bash against anyone but I think I'm just going to focus on what I like the feel of and go from there.
Looking at two independent, comprehensive and controlled robot testing of major golf ball models provides the following data: Todays Golfer (UK) 85 mph Driver Speed Srixon Q Star Tour - Carry Distance 193.1 yds Titleist Pro V1 - Carry Distance 193.0 yds My Golf Spy (USA) 85mph Driver Speed Srixon Q Star Tour - Carry Distance 188.14 yds Titleist Pro V1 - Carry Distance 193.41 yds Of course there are many personal preferences in golf ball selection including price, softer feel etc, however based on the data above, the cheaper ball will not provide extra distance for the slower swing speed golfer, in fact you may well lose distance.
I wonder why they had a 5 yard difference between the two tests with the same speed and ball with a robot swinging it 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks for sharing Robert 👍
@@embersgolf Different robots, climates, altitude, conditions will provide different results. The important point is consistency of testing with each independent test. Have a read of the methodology used and gain an appreciation of the time, effort, money spent and the expert scientists and researchers involved on the websites for Today's Golfer and My Golf Spy. The results show that certainly the softer, cheaper balls are available that will provide similar ballpark distance to the "Tour ball" for the slower swing speed player, however they will certainly not provide the extra 5 to 10 yards distance as suggested. The obvious suggestion is to make another video with a slow swing player around 85mph Driver speed on your simulator using a Titleist Pro V1 vs a Srixon Q Star Tour see what the results provide.
You could have measured the compression comparison by zooming in on each ball/face connection and measuring the contact points. You'd see that more of the 175 ball is pressed against the face than a 120
Will this ball work for my swing speed (85 mph) with my driver…I was looking at the Qstar tour, but didn’t think this ball would be a good fit for my swing speed…currently using the AVX golf ball because I like the Titleist brand…
Love it guys! I always had swing speed of about ik 95mph. Trying to get it up to 100-105 this winter. Always played the Nike Soft Feel, then the Srixon Supersoft, and the Wilson Duo Soft. Last year, I tried the Honma TW-S, which was great, but I also tried the Honma TW-X for swingspeeds above 90mph. I gained 10 yards, and jt was straighter off the tee. Unfortunately, they don't make these anymore (or they don't ship them to the EU anymore). So, now I'll be using the Wilson Triad, I've heard good things about this ball, have you tried these out?
Great info guys...any other ball fit in that category spec besides the TaylorMade and Srixon? Both fit my swing speed but curious if I have similar balls at home already in my ever growing inventory.
I think the callaway Super Soft may be in that category but I dont know for sure on that. Most all the big brands have a ball that falls into this category or are similar.
Two years into the game. I've settled in the divide, except I do use other brands on models to see how they perform within my game. I've always gone back to the divide. I like the feel, like that I can see what does in flight, around the green and lining it up during putts. Second video from you guys, and wish I would of known about you guys while I lived in Greeley.
iron swing speed 78 to 80 driver speed is 87ish best ball for us older guys am over 70 by the way is taylormade soft response compression of 30 with a ionomer cover the tour response is 40 compression with a urethane cover. walmart prices soft about 32 tour about 41
Let’s just say 85 is the most common score for slightly above average golfer. 85 freaking shots, 14 max are used with driver. I believe people fit their golf ball around the driver instead of what they should be doing and that’s fitting their game to iron swing speeds, common sense
Fellas. A golf ball recommendation based on Driver speed would be Appreciated. 85 miles, 90 miles, 95 miles. These are you weekend golfers. Post it for them. Thanks!
I think for all three f these speeds the Q-Star Tour would be great but you could also try the Taylormade Tour response, or callaway chrome soft or even maybe the Titleist tour speed. But feel is very important especially around the greens so try several out. Let us know what you think. Thanks for watching 👍
I play Titleist Tour Soft and shoot in the 90’s or on a good day high 80’s. Tried the Titleist Pro V and shot the exact same score. Play the ball in your price range.
Be interesting if you get one of us "regular" golfers.. (85-95mph club head swing) versus someone with 100+ speed levels. And the difference in the balls...
Good advice. Thank you, but I think you could have gone a little deeper into this topic. The “average golfer” is a high handicap that doesn’t hit straight. Most swings are over the top and slicing. So aside from swing speed, I believe a ball that spins more also would produce more side spin and make that slice worse. If correct, might that Q-Star Tour also be the better ball selection because it spins less off the tee and therefore helps keep the ball in play? And I REALLY dislike the optics of the Divide. 🤮 That Q-Star Tour comes in plain white and yellow too. ( WHAT! No hot pink?! 😮 )
Yeah about 10 yards more with the XV but that’s because our swing speed was at or above 105mph. The lower your swing speed the more that gap will go in the other direction with the Q-Star going further eventually. Thanks for watching Mark 🙌
Not sure the guys have complete grasp on what causes spin. Low compression is usually lower spin on full shots as they demonstrated (with same cover). Energy either compresses or goes into spin. A flyer is lower spin so those insisting on higher compression with slower iron speeds are costing iron distance with higher spin tour balls. I use low comp. in wet conditions to get more iron carry and to not spin back too much. With firm greens, premium std versions can be used by lots of folks, for stopping, not distance. Qstars are a nice compromise. IMO, X premium versions feel terrible for chipping and putting... like top flights from the 90's. I suppose a soft putter insert is a way to cope with that. Super softs putt nicely on really fast greens... but don't have the full iron stopping power.
The other night I hopped on my golf course and went hunting for golf balls on the course in my neighborhood. With a 5 gallon bucket and a golf ball retriever I came back w 222 golf balls. Cleaned em up and now I don’t have to buy golf balls for a while 😂
I select what ever ball wont cost me an arm and a leg when it lands in the lake, river, unsearchable rough, woods, the quarry next to the 8th hole, farmers filed :)
I'm sorry… But very little of this video added up. First you said a person with a swing speed of less than 95 miles an hour would benefit from a softer ball, but offered no proof. In your demonstration you both admit you're well over that 95 mile an hour threshold (100+), and it was the firmer golf ball that performed better. You would've done much better for yourself if you could've actually had somebody with a slower swing speed do this demonstration. I have a 93 mile hour swing speed and have hit the duo soft which is the softest golf ball out there and the Tour Response. Both of these were surpassed by the ProV1xleft - which I now use. My second choice is the Tour Response. This ball is only slightly off distance wise from the Left-. I will agree that there is a significant difference between the tour response and the left - golf ball pricewise. However, just like you said in the video with the left - off the driver, I am a 7 maybe 8 iron to the green versus a 6 iron with the tour response on a par 4.
@@embersgolf Yes in theory....I thought the same thing based on what I've read and been told. Then I saw a video and the Prov1x-Dash came out ahead on drives with swing speed of 85mph. I tried it and and with my 89-93mph swing speed it consistently outdrives golf balls that are traditional "slow swing speed" type. I think if you actually brought in a slower swing player to try you might be surprised at the results. The next time I come to Denver to visit my kids I'll look you up.
I may not be a golf expert, but I do know a few things about trampolines. The falicy of mass , increasing the height off a trampoline is false. If a 15 pound child and a 300 pound adult got on a trampoline and just bounced , they gonna go the same height until they learn technique.
Your test is valid for your swing speed. In order to have an accurate test, you have to perform it at low swing speeds as well. You just recorded a commercial for Srixon. You did not offer a complete test.
You can chose the same ball with the big brands that compare to the new Q-Star. Thats just a brand new ball we had to review anyway. But you should get similar performance with Taylormade and Callaways equivalent ball.
Why can't one of you swing slower (eg 75%) to prove your point? I have played the QStar Tour Divide Orange/yellow for 6 months and dropped 3 strokes based on improved putting and straighter longer distance. Great review!
Love it! Thanks for sharing, I suppose we could intentionally swing slower but that usually doesn't result in great data. But we can try it in the next one for sure.
Im a little confused. Your data said "driver soft" didn't go as far? Are you saying the softer ball does go further or it doesnt? Im sorry, im a little slow. 😂
The 'harder' tour ball went further off of the tee with Driver for our Driver swings. No worries at all. Hope this helped. Let us know if you have any other questions 👍
You really needed a guy/girl with 80 mph swing speed to compare. I am mid 60s and shoot high 70s to low 80s and I swing 94-96 - the worst swing speed. The reason I say that is is the worst, is because with irons I am great with the softer urethane balls, but with the driver the soft balls spin way too much. We play socially now, so I hit TP5 with the woods and Tour Response with the irons. Cant do that in comps though, so I stick with TP5 - otherwise the driver distance and accuracy is not good enough.
As a 74 y/o 17 handicap 85 mph swing speed player, I have found that the golf balls that work best for my game are whatever balls my kids/grandkids give me for my birthday or Christmas.
That works! Thanks for sharing Charlie 👍
Good feedback! Thanks for watching and for commenting and the support Golf Addict🙌🏼
Shhhhhh... Srixon will raise the price 😂😂😂😂
??? Just clarifying; my guess is you’re in snow country, so you don’t play in the winter. You’re using something like the Divide in spring, the AVX in summer, and the Divide again in fall ???
@@ra1der5 Gonna give the Callaway ERC soft a try this year also and the PXG Extreme
Thanks for this golfball review. I have recently started using the Q Star Tour Devide Red & Yellow, and I really like the ball flight and distance. With my 95 MPH swing speed, they just work for me. Keep the videos coming guys.
Thanks for sharing and for watching Roy 👍
Video coming on those!
Good point
I am 74 and I have switched to the qstar tour and it has really helped my game.
I have a 9 handicap and play 3 to 4 times a week.
Love it! Thanks for the feedback 👍
Very good points, thanks for sharing Jason 👍
Nice! Thanks for sharing 🙌🏼
I just started golf last year, I play super soft. Love them feel great. I'm not paying 60 per box since I'll just send em into the woods
The super soft have got to be one of the most popular balls for sure! Thanks for watching and for sharing 👍
Great info and good idea. On our next ball review we'll try and get a swing speed in that range for the test. Thanks for watching and sharing Matt 👍
Love it! Thanks for sharing 🙏
Love it! Thanks for the feedback 🙌
Hey...don't hate on the Nitros. They have their place in my bag...usually reserved for forced carry over water. lol
I played them exclusively as a newbie not knowing how many balls I would be losing a round.
Lol, sorry. No hate here! Thanks for watching & sharing 👍
Thank you Very much Trey! We really appreciate that comment and the support 🙌🏼🙏

We appreciate the support man 🙌
Great video with great information for us lower swing speed guys
I love the Titleist ProV1 but now play the Callaway SuperSoft
Had my swing speed check and found out it’s 87.7 for 70 years old I was disappointed…thought it would be higher
I searched for a lower compression ball because of what you showed here and landed on the Supersoft
I’ve picked up more yards and around the greens it works very well
I’ll be looking into the divides
Thanks for the effort you put into your videos
New Sub 👍⛳️👍
Thanks for sharing that info and for the support! We appreciate it BayouGolf 🙏
Thanks for sharing Blackcloud! We appreciate the feedback and the support 🙏
That is awesome Feedback! Thanks for sharing Jason 🙌🏼
It’s about time someone told you the facts about golf balls!! 🙌🏼👍🏼 thank you.
Best two for this are Q star tour and Taylormade tour response. Can’t go wrong. The Q star comes in plain white but Taylormade is great as well.
@embersgolf
One thing about tge TM Tour Response is itbdoesn't play as well in the wind, it's a close second, it does stop on the green (mostly) but has more side spin it seems.
That is good info, thanks for sharing Wolffden 👌
Would love to see a full list of balls that fit this criteria
We will work on something like that for you guys 🙌🏼
Q Star Tour Divide... END OF LIST
Plays so well in the wind, straight, feels great everywhere AND.... stops!!!
If you research the information on their websites/packaging, manufacturers will tell you what ball is best for your swing speed. I think there are also some TH-cams that talk about different balls for your swing speed.
Keep in mind, folks, that QST flies mostly straight, and that helps pick up some distance.
Good point 👍
Been through every ball myself. Qstar Tour and Zstar are great everywhere. If I want straight, long and feel, I go QST. If a shot requires some shape... Z star. QSTAR Tour DIVIDE RULE if they are orange/yellow
Very good info, thanks for sharing 👌
100% right I use the srixon divide I’m old (weaker) I like alot , tour response is pretty good also . Very good around the greens. I’m also using two full face milled wedges fir more bite ! “Divide an conquer” 😆😁😎
I like your style Christopher! 🙌🏼
That is good feedback for us and our viewers to see. Thanks for sharing Ryan 🙌🏼
Lol! 😂
I want to see this same test but with a slower swing speed. I want to see if you lose distance with a harder ball.
Yes the opposite would be true
I tend to be out in the trees or the knee-high grass. I play the ball I find if I can't find mine. 😅
Great video! I recently started using the Bridgestone Tour B RX. They’re made for swing speeds under 105mph.
Awesome feedback! More thought needs to go into ball choice for sure 👍
I second that. I've noticed that I get a lot more rollout on the Bridgestone than I did on other balls I've used. It also works great around the green
That is very true, all it takes is a little tweak here and there to get that swing speed up. Thanks for watching and sharing 🙌🏼
This is such a good video 🔥 i just use the most budget friendly balls right now. As I progress further and have more money then I’ll decide a specific ball to hit. Great video as always guys 🔥 🎉
Thanks BFrank! We appreciate it 🙏
There are simply too many variables to answer this question by swing speed alone.
I play a taylormade ball, I believe it's roughly 28-30 for 12-15... it's either tour response or soft response & Titleist tour soft. Great balls
Thanks for sharing 🙌🏼
I switch between the Divide & Bridgestone B-RX. I have used these 2 the past 2-3 years.
Those are two great options! Thanks for sharing Mark 👍
Thanks for watching and sharing 👍
Taylormade Noodle Long And Soft is a 35 compression, Taylormade Soft Response is a 50 compression and TP5 is 80 compression.
I’m curious with the color, I always lose the golf ball in the sky. Does the divide color make it easier to see in the sky? Also do you recommend specific ‘golf’ sunglasses?
Yes to both
It does help for sure. Also our Oakley glasses we sell some that have specific golf lenses that are great! Really enhance what your looking at
Srixon had a sale three for two at the end of the year last year.
That was a great sale they had! Thanks for sharing 👌
Truly depends on the course you’re playing. Keep the videos coming!
Very true! Thanks for watching chuck 🙌🏼
I use z star in the summer and Q star tour in the winter
I like it! Not a bad system there Matt 👌
Thanks for sharing, let us know if you do try anything what you think of them 👍
I am 65 years old and do not see a huge difference in balls.
That is a very solid point! Thanks for sharing 👌
I’ll take a Srixon Z-Star and now I’m trying the new 74 compression Srixon Q-Star Tour all day.
The money I save vs the overrated/overpriced Pro-V will go to a fifth of nice gin from time to time. Cheers!!!
I use Divide blue/yellow great flight and great around the greens Yesterday 2 hole back to back no putts a Par and yes an eagle on a Par 4
Love it! That’s awesome 👏 thanks for sharing Thomas
I play with the Kirkland balls from Costco. They're a 90 compression ball with a urethane cover, and at £30 for *TWO* dozen balls I think they're excellent value for the average golfer. They last pretty well too. Tomorrow I'll be playing my 6th game in a row with the same ball which hardly has a mark on it.
they are good but they do have a high spin rate, just fyi
@@Tin5674 Thanks, I know, but they stop very quickly on the greens! Sure, distance is affected by the spin and there's not much runout on the fairways right now as it's winter here and no one is getting runout. I normally hit up quite a bit so I'm used to no runout and base my course management on carry, not total distance. The Kirklands are fine for me. If I were a very low handicapper and 40 years younger I might think differently. 🙂
@@johnanthony6092 i guess i meant for other peoples info, i use em too, spin can be good and bad 🙂
Thanks for sharing this info guys 🙌🏼
I'm a 4 handicap with a 95 mph clubhead speed on driver. I've been playing the Q Star Tour for a few years now. Yeah, I object to paying the premium price on the ProV1 or comparable. I've shot my lowest round (67) with the Q Star Tour, and I like the softer feel.
That is awesome! Thanks for sharing 🙌🏼
I have an 85 mph swing speed and have been playing the Wilson 50s Green golf balls. I average around 240-250 drives and would like to increase around 20-30 yards if possible and will be your slow swing speed test subject.
Thanks Wayne 👍 We appreciate your willingness 🙌
hey boys - just ran across your channel this past week. Good stuff! I'm down in Highlands Ranch so gonna come up to the store and check you guys out here soon.
Awesome! Thanks for the support Russ! Stay tuned for more content and local events/ tournaments this spring & Summer 🙏
Thanks for the feedback and for watching John 👍
Looking at two independent, comprehensive and controlled robot testing of major golf ball models provides the following data:
Todays Golfer (UK) 85 mph Driver Speed
Srixon Q Star Tour - Carry Distance 193.1 yds
Titleist Pro V1 - Carry Distance 193.0 yds
My Golf Spy (USA) 85mph Driver Speed
Srixon Q Star Tour - Carry Distance 188.14 yds
Titleist Pro V1 - Carry Distance 193.41 yds
Of course there are many personal preferences in golf ball selection including price, softer feel etc, however based on the data above, the cheaper ball will not provide extra distance for the slower swing speed golfer, in fact you may well lose distance.
Yeah I think it would fit your speed. Its worth hitting I think Definitely. Let us know if you do and what you think 🙌🏼
@@embersgolf I Wii let you know…thanks for the feedback…
We havent tried them yet but they are on the Agenda so stay tuned 👌
Oh man! Yeah Greely isnt too far at all. Thanks for the support Alvin and for watching 👍
iron swing speed 78 to 80 driver speed is 87ish best ball for us older guys am over 70 by the way is taylormade soft response compression of 30 with a ionomer cover
the tour response is 40 compression with a urethane cover.
walmart prices soft about 32 tour about 41
Very good info, thanks for sharing Dennis 👍
I use the Srixon Soft Feel and I love them!
That is a great ball for the price 🙌🏼
Not for me not a great ball
Love the videos. I can’t stand the colored balls, do they come in white? If not do you have a recommendation of a ball that is white? Thanks
Yeah you can 👍
Let’s just say 85 is the most common score for slightly above average golfer. 85 freaking shots, 14 max are used with driver. I believe people fit their golf ball around the driver instead of what they should be doing and that’s fitting their game to iron swing speeds, common sense
Lol at the subtle Princess Bride quote in there :D
Haha, glad you caught that! Thanks for watching
Not a bad game plan. Thanks for sharing 👍
Do a video on ODINx1 it’s a DTC ball. It’s a 3 piece Urethane ball. Great video guys.
Great idea! We'll see what we can do 👍
Be interesting if you get one of us "regular" golfers.. (85-95mph club head swing) versus someone with 100+ speed levels. And the difference in the balls...
We should've done that. We will do that for sure next time 👍
So which ball do you both use and what is your gamer driver? Great review guys!
Ohhhh. What’s in the bag video is coming soon!
Other than the two you mentioned, any other mid squish balls you recommend for a 99 mog swing ball?
Haha. Yes I think the AVX Titliest and Taylormade your response, Callaway erc
Yes that is another good point! The lower the spin off of the tee will help keep things straiter! Thanks for watching & Sharing 🙌🏼
i use tpx5s because i like to putt and chip with them.
I play a Vice Pro. They just fit my game.
I dont mind that play! Vice makes some awesome Balls. Thanks for watching 🙌🏼
Did you get 10 more yards off the driver with the Srixon?
Yeah about 10 yards more with the XV but that’s because our swing speed was at or above 105mph. The lower your swing speed the more that gap will go in the other direction with the Q-Star going further eventually. Thanks for watching Mark 🙌
@@embersgolf have a comparison video request speaking of slower swing speeds. Q-star vs Wilson triad….
Great content guy's!
Thank you 🙏
Not sure the guys have complete grasp on what causes spin.
Nice video gents !!
Thanks guys 🙌🏼
Would love an additional video with just driver and use z star vs z star Xv
Hopefully we can get something like that in the works for you soon John 🙌
I buy the brightest ball I can find. The Srixon soft feel in bright red. It is hard to look at.
In a good way
Haha, makes you wince when you look down on it? Gonna be hard to lose 🙌🏼
The other night I hopped on my golf course and went hunting for golf balls on the course in my neighborhood. With a 5 gallon bucket and a golf ball retriever I came back w 222 golf balls. Cleaned em up and now I don’t have to buy golf balls for a while 😂
Lol, thats one way to do it! 👌
In light of the Mygolfspy ball lan data, one glaring question comes to m8nd: Why do companies still produce matte finish balls?
I see what you did there
I'm a beginner 36.1 handicap. so I should hit Noodles? no idea what my swing speed is.
For swings 90mph and less the ProV1x - Dash was the fastest ball speed in the biggest ball test in the industry
Thanks for sharing Mike 👍
Our theory is, if it works for us with a firmer ball, then the reverse must be true
@@embersgolf Yes in theory....I thought the same thing based on what I've read and been
told.
Yes I'm with you. Bring in a slow speed swinger then see.
We did not have someone in studio to do the test with, but we will for another video. 📼
Don't forget, they are now under contract with Srixon l, so there's a reason for that.
2:46, wow thanks!
Thanks for watching
Im a little confused. Your data said "driver soft" didn't go as far? Are you saying the softer ball does go further or it doesnt?
Im sorry, im a little slow. 😂
The 'harder' tour ball went further off of the tee with Driver for our Driver swings. No worries at all. Hope this helped. Let us know if you have any other questions 👍
Nice one guys.
Thanks Robert 👍
You really needed a guy/girl with 80 mph swing speed to compare. I am mid 60s and shoot high 70s to low 80s and I swing 94-96 - the worst swing speed. The reason I say that is is the worst, is because with irons I am great with the softer urethane balls, but with the driver the soft balls spin way too much. We play socially now, so I hit TP5 with the woods and Tour Response with the irons. Cant do that in comps though, so I stick with TP5 - otherwise the driver distance and accuracy is not good enough.
Brilliant just subbed 😊
Welcome aboard Dave 🙌 thanks for coming on 👌
What about Callaway Chrome Soft for a slower swing speed ?
That is also a great option. 👌
Callaway super soft is their softest but has the lowest spin.
Interesting combo there. Thanks for sharing Aaron
I’m a newer golfer, 25 years old, and the sims say my driver speed is up around 110+ mph… guess I’ll go buy the expensive balls.
That is awesome! Nice speed Alex 👍
I love the divide for putting practice.
Yes I Agree!
