Hi Alex, was wondering if you could do a video on wedge play (80 to 30 yards in) from a wet, kind a sobby fairways now we are going into the winter season. Curious about the way you handle these situations. Thanks. And BTW, your vids are really really good simple to execute them myself and so helpfull!! Keep up the good work.
Excellent Alex!! I started addressing the ball OUTSIDE (further away than you are)of the toe after using some powder on the face to find where I was making contact. I didn't know WHY it worked, just that it did! Your video explains that perfectly. Now I have the reason why I'm driving the ball more consistently.
Forces you to swing down with an inside out path. I practice something similar at the range, using two golfballs, placing one ball further (maybe two inches further) out and lining up to that one (a mishit w an actual ball produces good physical feedback). Someone who has a tendency to swing shallow would do the opposite. Place a ball closer, line up to close ball and hit the one further out. 😊
I picked this up in a lesson you dropped a while back and man, it's nice to just walk off the tee before the ball lands, knowing you put it right where I aimed. And that feeling, comes from exactly this. Thank you.
Anyone ever seen Moe Norman hit a golf ball? I’m a little obsessed with this guy…he addresses every shot about 8” behind the ball, driver more. Good advice!
Great video, Alex. I was hitting my driver off the heel. So, I adjusted my setup by drawing my club 4 inches back, and lining up the far toe with the left side of the ball. Now, I'm crushing drives, consistently striking the sweet spot of my driver. I'm keeping it in play far more often now too. Thank you!
As always, you present the most knowledge in the most concise manner. You're fun to watch and listen to. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, sir. Your tips are always so helpful! Well done, sir, and here's wishing you continued success with your channel. Cheers!
Never heard of you until today but stumbled on this driver tip shortly before my round today. Amazingly just following your tips transformed years of trying to hit up on the driver but mostly mishitting into a succession of sweetly hit drives from dead centre of the club to centre of the fairway. Now I can’t wait to look at your other tips. I’m so happy! Thank you Ryan.
I started doing this with all of my shots…I don’t know why, but this really works for me…no matter if it’s my irons or if I tee it up with my driver…great to see that I’m not the only one that does this…
I was always looking up different people giving advice on hitting the golf ball…after finding your post on Utube…i stopped watching other people and started watching videos that you’ve posted…I find that they’re really easy to follow and I’ve gotten great results from your tips…thanks to you I’m playing more consistent and enjoying my game alot more…keep posting those great video tips…
Played around on the range today with lining up driver at the toe end. Genuinely before I saw this video. Smashed ball after ball. Gained a lot of yards and the sound of a middle hit was awesome. Your video defo confirmed this is a good tip! Everyone should have a try at this.
Alex, I learned this method many years ago and my buddies said that I made this up, so now I can show them your video for confirmation . Great job on all of your video’s!
ChuckieC don't show your friends this video as evidence of anything other than Alex is speaking precisely about his swing. If it works for him and for you then great. The mechanics of a pure golf swing do NOT support Alex's ramblings. Alex's swing is for Alex. Grind in your own swing and model it after the pure mechanics of a true swing. Cheers brother.
You are my hero and I am forever subbed to this channel. I started out golf really young thanks to my father who was an avid golfer and he took me to courses few times every month. I never learned golf professionally but just messed about in the range with my father with occasional tips from him. Me being young and jealous of other adult's distances during the round, as a kid I tried to squeeze every drop of distance out of my swing with my limited strength. Naturally, my swing became kind of like John Daly over swung and with all might thrown at the ball. Fast forward now older adult my swing stayed the same. I am happy with my iron game but my driver was all over the place. 1 out of 5 I would bomb it down the fairway 300~320 yards but other 4 were snap hooks and slice off the planet to a point where I just gave up on driver during my game and teed of with a 4 iron or 5. This video got recommended to me out of nowhere and tried it in the range 2 days ago and my driver was going straight down the range 9 out of 10 times and even the one time it missed it was not a snap hook nor slice off the planet! All this accuracy with my ridiculous over charged John Daly Swing. Yesterday during my round I found most fairways of my adult golf hood with my driver and I was not scared during address that I might kill someone on the next hole. I am forever grateful for this tip man. really you have no idea. I am not sure how much a pint costs over the pond these days but I would love to treat you at least a pint. Thank you so much!
Ahhh wow that’s so kind of you, much appreciated!! It’s so good to hear that you have had benefits from this tip, and we’re finding a lot of fairways!! Keep up the great work and again thank you for your generous tip 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Alex, thank you so much for this tip. I've been hitting my driver like crap lately and felt like I couldn't find the middle of the face. Setting up further behind the ball and off the toe had me hitting my drives today much more consistent, farther and feeling like I was finding the center of the face. Thanks again!!
Alex, thanks for this video. Fairly new subscriber. I was looking back through topics and this jumped out to me. Watched it, then tried it practicing and on the course. Wow! What an improvement. THANKS SO MUCH!!! The driver now comes back out of the bag more.
Very impressed! I worked for Callaway Golf for 18 years as a fitter. Was a 3 handicap most of my years playing. Bad back due to military service and haven't played in 6 years. Lost some weight and now wearing a back brace and trying to play again. It's like I never played! I watched a few of your videos and learned a lot. Will keep you posted on my efforts. Would love to meet you and possibility a lesson or two.
Completely Agree. On all the points. (I don't necessarily follow them all especially the 2nd one with resting the ball on the ground 6 inches behind the ball. But makes sense, so it looks like I will have to try that afterwards. The last one, though I can't tell you how many people I have had to tell to NOT line up in in the middle of ball. What I like to tell people is that then are lined up when their arms are relax and not fully extended. But when they swing away it is natural to fully extend and they will either extend beyond or heal the ball. If they adjust their swing to strike the middle then are not getting a full power of their swing.
Last night, I saw just the title of this video. I didn't watch it, yet I put it in practice today on the course. I was hitting more consistent in the upper/toe/center, and made many fairways. I love your videos and your enthusiasm for instruction. Best round of the year so far; I beat the course 3&2. Thank you.
When I saw the video I couldn't believe it. It actually works and I hit more and more balls in the sweet spot, resulting in a 5 to 10m gain. I've tested this on two rounds so far and I hope it stays that way. But as is the case in the game of golf, today's knowledge is tomorrow's mistake. I hope it won't happen. Thanks for this great tip Alex, this was written with Google Translate, by the way, I'm from Germany here too, you have your fans.My Hcp 6,4.
As a high handicapper 22, tried this method today, felt really weird but it absolutely works a treat, thanks Alex with take a look at you other vids. 👍
I've always addressed the ball on the toe side for the exact reason you state. I don't trust my muscle memory to keep my swing from extending due to centrifugal force. I hit much better this way. However, I've never attempted to address the ball so far back before. I do have a tendency to hit lower so I tee up the ball to compensate. Also, I sometimes hit the ground right before the ball. I'm going to try to tee it up and address it like you show and see if that helps. Thanks, and keep on keeping it in the fairway. 🙂
Great video... I learned this tip years ago but explained a bit different. Address the ball with the club head grounded in the middle of the face...now just lift the club head and inch now look where the ball is now....heel... it works
this one I am going to try tomorrow on the practice... Just discovered the channel and looking promising to aid my golf. Just began a year ago because I live on a golf course in Spain.
I used this set up last week after 5 days of practice in my backyard ,just swing the driver and tees, My first drive that weekend I walked up to the tee, set up, took a swing but not muscle it and that ball carried 277 yards !!!! I hit several 275ish and two 300+ But I wood draw right , so I will turn my sternum slightly right with my right foot back just a bit and put a great draw on the ball !
Nipped out to the driving range at lunchtime today to try this. Wow, most often I don't even carry my driver. It's more of an ornament. I'd told the workmate I went with I can't hit driver. I looked foolish in a good way. Long and reasonably straight. Massive improvement. Thanks Alex
Interesting points Alex. I hover my driver a tip I picked up from Tony Jackling, I think, many years ago, in order to facilitate a smoother takeaway. However I do keep the club back a little from the face. I will try your ground/toe method. Incidentally, according to someone on Sky TV, Jon Rahm only addresses the ball back when he wants to hit a draw - makes sense.
I went to the driving range for the first time yesterday. I bought flexible tees and some sharpies. My first thought was next time i come out here I'm going to mark all my tees and eliminate the tee height inconsistency. I did really well not hitting the ground. 3 times out of 1 large basket and 1 small basket. I think i naturally hit a little higher so ill find my sweet spots off of good shots and use those as my guages.
Sounds like a good tip my miss on the face is towards the heel. I’m gonna try it what heck. You’d think I could have figured it out after decades of playing but I never have.
I'm a mid-handicapper. One of my problems is inconsistent accuracy with the driver. These tips make a lot of sense. I can't wait to go to the range and try them out.
Good tip I found I was hitting off the heel a lot. Then started stretching my arms out as far as I could at set up made a big difference. Your method is probably easier going to try it Thanks
Excellent video Alex on three things that you recommend a player to do with driver when addressing the ball. As you suggested, I try to tee the ball the same height every time and I do not hover the driver behind the ball for the reason you have given. The one thing I am still working on and it definitely a "work in progress is setting the driver approximately six inches behind the ball and toward the toe at address. All good information Alex! Well Done!!!!
Amazing tip! That's exactly what I've been doing all season long, and I've got positive results. Now that the season is over, I write down what I learnt from this past season. And I start over from there next season. THANKS!
Works for me. 6 inches back more towards the toe. I stagger my stance with my right foot back some. Finally hitting a baby draw. Nice one Alex. Thank you.
Really good video. I installed a tap on the face to see and indeed I was still hitting the heel. After your video I now learned how to hit well to reach the center and it works. Better distance. thank you very much.
Thanks for this information, I have been hit my driver just like you said, more off the toe and some of my friends think my swing is strange to be able to hit the ball solid. I also do the same for my long irons and woods.
When i was young and hitting driver for the first time, the pro told me don't put your ball in the center, when you address only put half a ball in site center and the other half towards toe. it works perfectly
I have changed all my irons to hybrids and will hit on some occasions terrific and others downright ugly. I will try the tee exercise this coming Tuesday hopefully I don’t lunge forward.
A good tip I’ve used for years with tee height on drives is place the top of the tee at the break of my pointer finger and keep my finger along the tee stick it in the ground until my tip touches. It’s consistent and the perfect height for me.
Another fantastic lesson. I have a tendency to slide my left side forward on the downswing, so.Im definitely going to bring this lesson to the range!. 50-54-58
Alex this worked!!! Of course im not worried about power right now as im trying to get the right feel first. However, i hit 5-8 balls and they were straight down the range!! Alex you are awesome!!
I've been addressing off the toe for years and completely destroy the ball. I've showed others when I play with them and notice they slice a bit and when they adjust it puts them right down the middle. It just makes sense.
Thanks for this I was having trouble with my driver could not strike consistently until I laid my club at the ball as you describe now back to a decent strike and it’s becoming consistently longer so again thanks
I thought I was the only person who did this, with addressing the ball a ways back from it. Basically, i figure between my feet will be the middle of my swing and lowest point, so that's where I want the driver to rest on the ground. I put the ball a few inches ahead of that, inside my heel, mentally picturing bottoming out in the middle and hitting a tad up on the ball off the tee. I've never thought about addressing it toward the toe of the club, I'll have to try that.
Alex, love this video and its so simple from a logic standpoint. I’m giving this a try this weekend at the range and on the course. Thank you for these tips!! DD
I used to practice with club head stickers to see where I was striking the ball. With the driver I had to address the ball with the toe equal to the ball (just like Alex describes). I just assumed this was due to my crappy swing - now I can see its science and that I don't suck as much as I thought. (as much being very subjective)
Why doesn’t anyone and I mean anyone mention hand placement on the shaft with driver?? Everyone talks about grip but no one mentions position as this one adjustment that blows everything else out the water as I’ve discovered. Had major issues with my driver and tried every TH-camrs tips and nothing worked until I moved my hands closer to the bottom of the shaft and now I’m hitting straighter and more controlled shots. Before doing anything else move your hand position and I guarantee you, as an inexperienced golfer this works more than anything else you’ll learn. Thank me later
Getting fitted for a driver is easily the best thing you can do to eliminate a slice/hook. If you are gripping down on your driver then it doesn't fit you. I got fitted for a ping g425 driver at the beginning of the year, and went from a big slice to dead straight almost instantly.
Alex. I'll be putting this in play. Today, I played using your HEAD TRICK DRILL. My driving was better. Every drive in play, distance varied. But, it was only the first time I used it. I will add this, especially ball off the toe and starting the backswing with the club 4-6 inches behind the ball .. a la ... Moe Norman. You didn't actually say ... but ... I think this will help in the backswing as it squares shoulders and clears room to turn. Am I correct? Thanks Alex. My golf is on the right track
@@AlexElliottGolf worked great although I have other issues in my swing I was starting to find the centre of the driver went from 240 yards carry to 260 yards carry, just need to stop driving my trail leg into the ball.
next video will talk about the benefits of hovering the club. In fact, they should do a video with all the contradictory advice. Open in bunkers--closed in bunkers. etc. etc. etc.
When I swing my driver, my hands get closer to my body, so I line up the heel of the driver with the ball and also grounded a few inches away from the ball. This works for me and I get a fair distance on a regular basis.
i was literally just wondering why even when I set up with the ball at the very toe I still oftentimes hit on the heel. I think this explains at least part of my malfunction. Thanks!
An older gentleman on the range helped telling me my shoulders were not square to the target.... which he said is a common problem among many players. Probably why i have trouble with hitting my intended target.
Good stuff, as well as centrifugal ( centrepital) force extending arms and wrists outwards , the actual height of the tee makes a difference….. hover the centre of club with ball teed up… now raise the club to an imaginary ball another tee height above…. See how far out the club is now. So to get the right ammount of toe address, try this … hover club centred at teed ball. Exhale, relax and allow club to drop down and back 3-4”. Look in wonder where the ball/toe relation is.
Im a hoverer, per Jacks advice. So ridiculous and unorthodox but worth a try. Wondering why Pros dont use this? First try for 18 holes, without addressing at the toe, shorter than normal by a few yards, but straight every time off the tee. Even works with fairway woods. Next up is the Toe address.
I do the same thing, if I address it right behind the ball I always end up with a ball that starts straight and fades a few yards. If I address it like you showed in the video I can hit a pin straight shot that carries 280 yards.
*3 Little sneak peaks into exactly what I do with my driver*
Hi Alex, was wondering if you could do a video on wedge play (80 to 30 yards in) from a wet, kind a sobby fairways now we are going into the winter season. Curious about the way you handle these situations. Thanks. And BTW, your vids are really really good simple to execute them myself and so helpfull!! Keep up the good work.
Peter is messing with me
Wunderbare Erklärung Danke
Good tip on tee height, interesting tip on club to ball set up. I will give both a go.
Alex, tried this today and worked for me, this is how I will play my driver now
Hi can I apply the same principle to my 7 wood?
Excellent Alex!! I started addressing the ball OUTSIDE (further away than you are)of the toe after using some powder on the face to find where I was making contact. I didn't know WHY it worked, just that it did! Your video explains that perfectly. Now I have the reason why I'm driving the ball more consistently.
Forces you to swing down with an inside out path. Hello there

Check out Manuel De La Torre too fella 😉
Seen moe he was a genius at ball striking,👍
Great video, Alex. I was hitting my driver off the heel. So, I adjusted my setup by drawing my club 4 inches back, and lining up the far toe with the left side of the ball. Brilliant! So glad to hear it has helped!! Haha no worries on the name, but you ar welcome!
I started doing this with all of my shots…I don’t know why, but this really works for me…no matter if it’s my irons or if I tee it up with my driver…great to see that I’m not the only one that does this…
Great to hear it works

That’s very kind thank you!
Perfect! That means your right foot is a little behind the aiming line from the target when doing the alignment stance, Like Ben Hogan did.
Played around on the range today with lining up driver at the toe end. Genuinely before I saw this video. Smashed ball after ball. Gained a lot of yards and the sound of a middle hit was awesome. Your video defo confirmed this is a good tip! Everyone should have a try at this.

Heel bias with the driver is one of my faults, so your setup is definitely something I am going to try as soon as the weather moderates.

Hello there
How are you doing today?
I will like to be friend with you if you don't mind?
Just got back from shooting a 92 after a month off. Short game a bit rusty. Will try this Friday to see if I can improve my driving distance.
Thank you for the tip. Tried it and it works and will now align my driver this way going forward.
I've been addressing off the toe for years and completely destroy the ball. I've showed others when I play with them and notice they slice a bit and when they adjust it puts them right down the middle. It just makes sense.
Great to see this as I have always addressed out of the toe and thought I was doing it wrong so it was great to see this video, keep em coming 👍👍
Glad it was helpful!
I tend to stretch my left arm during my address so that I strike the ball with the middle of the driver face. Your method makes a lot of sense.
Loveeeee the videos...just seeing them for the first time today, really tourough and makes a lot of sense, thanks 😀
Glad you like them!
Great advice especially the toe bit. Top man!
Cheers mate
Love your tips Alex, keep up the great work🙏🏻
Tried addressing my 3-wood a bit more towards the toe on the range this evening. Wow.... just wow. Thanks Alex! 👍
I'll try it with my 9 wood thanks
Thanks for this I was having trouble with my driver could not strike consistently until I laid my club at the ball as you describe now back to a decent strike and it’s becoming consistently longer so again thanks
Good tips Alex. You absolutely nailed that last drive
Yeah it was pure wasnt it! Hope the tip helps you julian
Good stuff today getting ready to start playing again up here in Michigan
Great tip, I can’t believe this actually works!
I started doing these things 6 months ago and the difference is amazing.
Brilliant
Cause it already get the shoulders engaged. Eliminates one foot of the backswing which is crucial in your takeaway. Moe Norman had it figured out
brilliant ,helped my drive so much ,
Tried this today. Wow! Brilliant! Thank you!
Fantastic!
Alex. That works!! 👏
Alex, love this video and its so simple from a logic standpoint. I’m giving this a try this weekend at the range and on the course. Thank you for these tips!! DD
Moved the driver start position about 4 inches from the ball and hit 3 draws one after the other…a slower controlled swing also helps
This technique has helped me. I now rarely hit a slice. Ball goes straight and long!
I used to practice with club head stickers to see where I was striking the ball. With the driver I had to address the ball with the toe equal to the ball (just like Alex describes). I just assumed this was due to my crappy swing - now I can see its science and that I don't suck as much as I thought. (as much being very subjective)
Thanks. Finally I get the setting right.
Thank you.
I agree. Pros actually cut a regular shaft down up to 1 inch
Getting fitted for a driver is easily the best thing you can do to eliminate a slice/hook. If you are gripping down on your driver then it doesn't fit you. I got fitted for a ping g425 driver at the beginning of the year, and went from a big slice to dead straight almost instantly.
@@davidoconnor3201 did they have to cut your shaft down at all
@@BobbysBearded I'm a short arse so they cut it down an inch and a half 😁
I use the Brush-T because it always sets the ball at the same height and doesn’t break. I’ve used the same tee for several years.
Great to hear the drill helped!! Yes you are right it would certainly help with that!!🙌🏼🙌🏼
Great tips! I struggle with tee height and placement. I Can’t wait to try this out on range. ✌🏾
Been playing about 2 months know and ur videos have helped a ton. Thank you
So good to hear Johnny
Brilliant!
Thnx for all your help 💪🏻💪🏻
Happy to help!
Going tomorrow and will definitely try this
Would you also recommend teeing out towards the toe with the irons, specifically the middle to long irons?
Yeah!
Trying this next session thanks Alex
Greate let me know how you get on
@@AlexElliottGolf worked great although I have other issues in my swing I was starting to find the centre of the driver went from 240 yards carry to 260 yards carry, just need to stop driving my trail leg into the ball.
next video will talk about the benefits of hovering the club. In fact, they should do a video with all the contradictory advice. Open in bunkers--closed in bunkers. etc. etc. etc.
Great idea
When I swing my driver, my hands get closer to my body, so I line up the heel of the driver with the ball and also grounded a few inches away from the ball. This works for me and I get a fair distance on a regular basis.
Alex, what drill can you do when driving to stop falling back onto your right foot/heel and carving the ball right? Thanks.
i was literally just wondering why even when I set up with the ball at the very toe I still oftentimes hit on the heel. I think this explains at least part of my malfunction. Thanks!
An older gentleman on the range helped telling me my shoulders were not square to the target.... which he said is a common problem among many players. Probably why i have trouble with hitting my intended target.
Truly, great lessons. Subscribed for life. Can’t wait to see more.
Thank you!!
Got a tee time at 7am tomorrow going to try this out !
Let me know how you got on!
Interesting theory about placing the club at the toe of the ball makes sense. I presume this would also apply to your irons?
Faded on the first one 274. Draw second one 287 with toe set-up. Makes sense. Stance looked the same. What about the grip? Same for both?
Im a hoverer, per Jacks advice. So ridiculous and unorthodox but worth a try. Wondering why Pros dont use this? First try for 18 holes, without addressing at the toe, shorter than normal by a few yards, but straight every time off the tee. Even works with fairway woods. Next up is the Toe address.
Good tips! Looking forward to putting them in play.
Glad you like them!
I hover. Never ground my clubs. I am never static. I crush the ball. Game changer!
Great Tip !!
Gonna try this makes sense hopefully fix my slice 😅
I do the same thing, if I address it right behind the ball I always end up with a ball that starts straight and fades a few yards. If I address it like you showed in the video I can hit a pin straight shot that carries 280 yards.
Ohh ur back, saw josh in chineese on Friday, he said uv got no clothes sense n just buy cheap
