      JD Bond 2001 has aged tremendously well, both in terms of story and visual effects. It may be more relevant now than when it first premiered in 1968.

    • @jackdonohue7893
      @jackdonohue7893 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      John Long visually it’s amazing. It has held up amazingly. But everything else... other then Hal 9000....hasn’t really. The story is good. I guess you’re right. I found it boring but it’s my opinion. And I do think it’s the most overrated movie in the world.

    • @johnl6192
      @johnl6192 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      JD Bond Speak for yourself! The film is utterly captivating. To make an objective statement that 2001 haven’t “held up well” simply because you find it dull is silly, imo. And you really haven’t seen many films if you think it is the most overrated of all time...

    I wish VFX oscars weren't at all based on popularity or critical acclaim. A lot of movies that are fantastic have not so great special effects, and a lot of bad movies have great special effects.

    • @rustincohle2135
      @rustincohle2135 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "E.T." didn't technically win over "The Thing" since "The Thing" wasn't even nominated (as it should have been). But since "The Thing" was a huge flop that nobody saw and it quickly disappeared from theatres, it was forgotten about come Oscar time especially since it came out in the summer. "Blade Runner" was kinda the same story; big flop, few people saw it, few people liked it. People vote for the movie they've actually seen hence why "E.T." won. But why are y'all acting like "E.T." doesn't have great visual effects? It does. But, yea, if I got to vote, I'd probably would vote for either "Blade Runner" or "The Thing". Although, it's more of a crime that "Blade Runner" didn't win for Art Direction rather than for Visual Effects.

    • @lifeinthehands6972
      @lifeinthehands6972 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah bro.
      Blade Runner deserved that award in 82.
      But E.T was much better than The Thing.
      The Thing was better than Poltergeist too.
      İt was the second runner up.

    * Tenet
    * Dune
    * Black Widow
    * The invisible man
    * Wonder Woman 1984

    A great montage, but it could use an update. The winner for 2019 was _1917._ Since then the winners were _Tenet_ (2020), _Dune_ (2021), and _Avatar: The Way of Water_ (2022).
    On a personal note: I've watched many of these films on DVD, blu-ray, or streaming. It's a pity that some of the ealier films are offered on DVD only in battered, unrestored prints. _(Destination: Moon_ comes to mind. There's no blu-ray release and the DVD offers a poor print indicating the film is in dire need of restortion.)
    As much as I enjoy these films watching them on my television, I release now that, to fully appreciate them, they need to be seen in a _theatre_ were one can enjoy their visual excellence as well as truly becoming part of the experience of seeing them.
