    So this is what cinematography means. I remember seeing most of the films in this video and at certain points - I had this emotion inside me. This strange and a certain kind of feeling that I only had watching some amazing shots. Now I understand why. The cinematography. And all these years, I've failed to give a name to it. But now I have - brilliance. Absolute brilliance in seeing something in mind so that the audience could see it in a screen. What a remarkable skill. And to think that Oscars was going to give them during the break? Shame.

    Amazingly crafted recompilation, you definitely chose the most visually stunning sequences of these movies. And yes, Citizen Kane’s cinematography is a monument and should have won for B/W in 1941. This year I was for Roma because of its amazing, visually immersive shots, though Cold War and The Favourite were also very strong.

    Roma's Cinematography was excellent, but I personally prefer The Favourite because every shot is like a painting of that period of time (and taking the risk of using wide angle lenses), whiles Roma only appeals to Nostalgia by using BW photography, but many movies have done the similar thing and they were not even nominated to an oscar on such categories even by using pretty innovative methods of lighting (The White Ribbon, for example). On screenplay, the Favourite definitively is one of appreciation, more than Roma (using the excuse that has no plot or it can be related to the life of anybody is not an argument because there are tons of movies who has done this, even with the masterfully use of psychological connotations summed with social behaviour and historical events on account, like most of Haneke's Movies like the White Ribbon, Amour, Le Temps du Loup, The Seventh Continent, Happy End and so on). The same thing goes to the Favourite on Production and Custom Design, even when you Say that Roma did an spectacular job on recreating the mexico of that period, if you go to Mexico you will realize that the City already looks like that. The crew only added some little details that have been gone a while ago, but with the Favourite, they recreated a whole era within its tiniest detail.

    • @LordJagd
      @LordJagd 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally agree, it's crazy that people don't think to use natural light with period pieces like The Favourite did since those castles and gardens were made with natural sunlight in mind!

    Why do we get barely a second of the clips from the first 60-80 years of cinema? It implies that they're not as important as the clips you've presented from the 2000's and 2010's, and they appear to be brushed over in such reduced quality too.
