There are plenty of those that now people find surprising they flopped. But flopping doesn't really mean much - just that they didn't do that good in theaters. In this case it probably won't be the fault of the interview. Feels like there is a certain fatigue towards the endless remakes and franchises and people just pin the frustrations on whatever tips them off first.
Zegler doesn't seem to understand Snow White at all and nor do Disney. Snow White doesn't clean the dwarves' home in the original because she has to, because that's what women do, or because she looks down on them. At that point? She had no idea who even lived there. She found the dwarves' cottage and assumed, because she had no idea of the existence of magical beings, that the size of the furniture meant seven children lived there. As it was so dirty, she assumed they must be orphans with no one to take care of them properly or teach them how to clean, she decided then that she would clean it in the hopes they would let her stay and, if they didn't, at least it would be a nice surprise for them with the animals helping her because she was such a kind, gentle soul. When she finds out that its adult dwarves who live there? She apologises for intruding and pleads with them to let her stay - offering to cook and clean because those are skills she's familiar with which she knows they aren't good at. Snow White doesn't portray women as weak or incapable. She isn't meant to portray them as fulfilling an assigned gender role, with a big strong Prince and a host of magical beings and animals to save her. She's showing people that kindness is its own strength. Kindness and teamwork. That, even though she has no martial or material skill, she has other qualities that are worth something just by being herself and that those qualities are in their own right something truly special. That people are, by being themselves, special. This is evident in the interactions she has with the dwarves as well - she happily accepts Grumpy as being his Grumpy self. She never once speaks down to him or treats him any differently to anyone else and the same with the other dwarves. Despite being magical beings, which some humans might think made them lesser, she treats them as equals. She might not be the flashy, weapon-wielding, spell-slinging woman of action that other Disney characters are but she's as much a heroine. More so, in some ways, because she shows that little acts of kindness can be worth more than a sorcerer's spells, they're a magic of their own. Magic that Disney has, sadly, forgotten.
Not to mention the dwarves were very kind to Snow White and chased the evil queen in a storm that could've killed them, and they were doing it within the kindness of their hearts and made a glass coffin for her and grieved around her, showing how strong and devoted of characters they are and how beloved this Snow White was as a character. The only way this new trashy movie can be redeemed is if these CGI dwarves cast this rude "Snow" White in a box and send her down the river.
I think back in those days princess would not normally do any cleaning and it would not be expected of a woman to clean somebody else's house. All of that is shown to make the readers/viewers understand that she is a good person.

You do know the original still exists. They didn’t burn all the DVD’s or remove it from streaming platforms to make this one. There are also dozens of versions of Snow White out there. You can choose to watch or not watch them.

Her delivery of these lines would have been fine if she'd kept them polite and sweet like the original Snow, and I've no idea why the director heard her tone and "Yep. That's the take we want. That sounds right". Disney just doesn't care any more. This film might not have been a bomb if they'd taken care of it, but they trashed it.

The strength of a lot of the older princesses was their kindness in the face of adversity and that this "goodness" would always triumph over evil and lead to love (something which up until a few years ago was considered positive). I always found it a beautiful message and it shaped who I was growing up. Nowadays the message is that the only way to be strong is to always retaliate and dictate, and that love is useless and a weakness. A message that will lead to selfish, unkind and lonely children growing up (although luckily lots of parents are catching on that movies nowadays have terrible messages).
Their movies are also well-loved by foreigners without the enforced inclusivity. They never needed to have it. The people doing the enforcing are running on a purely Californian mindset.

Honestly that music video tells a much better interpretation of snow white than whatever Disney planned to do with this one. The way the dwarfs are tied to snow-white and the subtle symbolism in the video really make it a good Watch. And the song is literal gold as well (pun intended)

Rachel is a great singer who was the lead role in a Steven Spielberg movie and now is cast in everything, including the lead role in "The Hunger Games" spin-off. Fairytales were stories passed down through generations. I heard them as a child from my grandmother, who herself had heard them from her elders. These tales are more than just entertainment, they carry the values, morals, and lessons. In Germany, these stories hold a special place. Cities and regions take immense pride in being the birthplace of these tales. For example, the town of Kassel is associated with the Brothers Grimm, they got famous by collecting stories from all around the country. Even today, fairytales inspire children’s series, video games, and operas. Now, Disney is claiming that our stories are outdated and is altering them to fit their woke modern standards. I don’t claim, that it matters what color the dwarves are, and personally, I don't find it to be a major issue. In fact, I’ve never come across any mention in the original fairytale about the dwarves' ethnicity. Historically, dwarves were inspired by real mine workers, most of whom were children. These children remained small due to the harsh labor conditions that stunted their growth. In the fairytale, dwarves are depicted as small, human-like workers, but they’re not actually human. The real issue is that Disney has tried to turn the dwarves into a "woke" group of almost exclusively full-sized people. This not only demonstrates a lack of understanding of German culture but also shows that Disney doesn't grasp the historical origins of the dwarves. I hate how "strong female characters" are only seen as loud, brash, physically strong, narcissistic women these days. Strong female characters can be written to be kind, principled, selfless, maternal, feminine, shy...theres no personality that's right or wrong for a strong female character, yet Disney seems stuck in the idea that a strong woman can only be a man-hating, physically fit, selfish person. It's so patronizing and insulting, not to mention that makes for one-dimensional characters! Kinda sick of being subliminally told my reserved, affectionate personality is "wrong" for a "strong female character."

Also judging by both their looks, they did not look like 14 and 31. I mean how come right now, when the movie would get this sort of attention again, people start to call it weird and outdated, meanwhile back then nobody did and instead loved the movie for what it is, a cartoon, princess, fantasy, romantic movie.

The original Snow White knew how to communicate and be assertive with the dwarves without being bossy, Rachel as Snow White utterly fails at that and comes off as condescending.
To be fair, anything scripted is not the actors’ fault; it belongs to the writers and directors. It just doesn’t help that her behavior in the public eye primed people to see her in a narcissistic light.
In the original story, Snow White was very pale due to the horrible and empty life she had led up until that point. It depicted a girl who was dead inside from abuse.
The really ironic thing is that Disney spent so long treating its version of Snow White as completely untouchable because it was so foundational and sacred to the whole operation that nothing could be allowed to cheapen it. They even waited more than twenty years after starting to release their properties on home video before finally giving in and allowing it for Snow White, long after other premium titles like Cinderella, Bambi, Fantasia, and Sleeping Beauty. And yet, they're allowing it to be the one that finally kills the public's tolerance for the live-action remake fad after ten years - and that's saying something, when you consider how dissatisfied viewers have been with the genre, without killing it.

The original Snow White is beyond beautiful. The animation is insane. The hard work of those previous Disney animators still shows today. It’s more fluid and alluring than anything Disney has released in a very long time. I hate that she bashed it the way she did, she doesn’t appreciate when something had hard work and dedication behind it. Which I think speaks for our media in general right now, no hard work. no dedication.
I agree. The animations had life and the Snow White trailer looks lifeless. We know live action remakes can be visually stunning and this feels like a high school drama club made the costumes for Snow White. Cinderella and maleficent were gorgeous movies. The way Cinderellas ball was visually made the animated version come to life. Ariel and Snow White live actions both had such high budgets but such shoddy production and costuming.
Now that would’ve been cool because yeah, you get your representation, but it also fits the skin color and something tells me that along with fitting the skin color. They could’ve found somebody who actually likes snow White as she supposed to be not some thinnest jerk and who actually bodies the personalities Snow White, and can sing and speak and a sweet soprano voice not this authoritarian whatever this is.

Nah nah nah. Her and Peter Dinklage both ruined this film. And Disney. A trifecta of crap. It might have been halfway visually tolerable if we actually had dwarves. The Brett Cooper one (judging from the small clip) looks WAY better. Plus Brett is extremely lovable and actually fits the role of Snow White.
I’m starting to think Disney has lost sight of who their target audience is. These movies don’t feel like they were designed to appeal to families or young children; they feel like they were made for young adults. Like… they’re more interested in targeting special interest groups with politically-undertoned messages than just telling a good story that appeals to everyone, and that approach cheapens their newer movies and takes away the sense of timeless magic Disney was once known for. Why can't disney just remaster the old movies like games at this point. It would be so much better than the disasters that they released up until this point.
They can and they do, but it's only so many times you can do it before it becomes kind of meaningless - like they restored it digitally for the LaserDisc release, then there was the Platinum edition, a high-def remaster known as Diamond Edition, then for the BlueRay, and a year ago - 4K Ultra HD. Each time they packaged it with additional bonus features, but there is only so many times you can sell the same old movie to people... And I honestly don't even know any people who even liked the old movie that much and are still alive.

People seem to forget that Snow White is based on a german fairy tale by the brothers Grimm ("Schneewittchen und die sieben Zwerge" -> "Snow White and the seven dwarves"), Disney didn't create the characters but they get all the credits for it
What we really need at this time is a story where a black girl is the snow white, the prince is a transexual man with penis and breasts and at the story ends with the snow white and prince and the "witch" having a unltrasexual threesome so the spell is broken via a threesome and they live happily ever after. In the middle of the story we get an orgy between the snow white and the magical creatures with a lot and lots of semen. What angered me about Peter Dinklage's tirade about the original animated classic was that the Dwarfs did NOT live in a damn cave! They lived in a cottage. They worked in a diamond mine. Their theme song lyrics are "It's off to work we go" and "To home from work we go." The crazy part is there has already BEEN an updated version of the story in the 1997: Snow White, a tale of terror with Sigourney Weaver as the jealous Stepmother. The background shots and the story itself is probably closer to the Brother's Grimm version, its darker, gritty and depicts life in that time period with a bit more realism. I really like this version more than the cartoon. The cartoon version bothered me even as a kid because Snow White just seemed too nice. I had grown up wary of people who seemed to be falsely sweet and acted timid but were talking behind your back and turning others against you, so she didnt feel real but that was the 30s and women werent really portrayed as anything other than the love interest that has to be rescued by the male character so its of its time. To modernise it, its already been done, several times, much better than what appears to be this new trainwreck version. You can be diverse and inclusive without beating people over the head with it and yeah I agree, Galdot isnt ideal for the Queen, not because she's a bad actress, far from it, but because she's not sinister enough. Meryl Streep, on the other hand, would have OWNED that role.

I personally argue that the Beauty and the Beast remake and Lion King remake were the best ones, especially because the depth of the story with the Beauty and the Beast remake is still the same as the original. Also the cinematography in both the Lion King and Beauty and the Beast movies was amazing.
This movie will be the best story told by an unreliable narrator. You'll know that everything that happens is a lie. The dwarves dont like her, evil queen is actually nice and nobody saves snowwhite at the end.

The original movie, first lacks a lot in term of story, IIRC has a slow pace where kids might enjoy themselves but parents will yawn, and some ideas in that film are just outdated. My generation grew up on the “outdated” princess stories and we go to work, we are mothers and we wear many hats every day. Sometimes a movie is an escape to an ideal life and it shouldn’t be a lecture. I certainly don’t think it’s a good idea for anything on TV to give anyone life advice. That’s a parents’ job or a professional’s job.

There are plenty of those that now people find surprising they flopped. But flopping doesn't really mean much - just that they didn't do that good in theaters.

Zegler doesn't seem to understand Snow White at all and nor do Disney. Snow White doesn't clean the dwarves' home in the original because she has to, because that's what women do, or because she looks down on them. At that point? She had no idea who even lived there. She found the dwarves' cottage and assumed, because she had no idea of the existence of magical beings, that the size of the furniture meant seven children lived there. As it was so dirty, she assumed they must be orphans with no one to take care of them properly or teach them how to clean, she decided then that she would clean it in the hopes they would let her stay and, if they didn't, at least it would be a nice surprise for them with the animals helping her because she was such a kind, gentle soul. When she finds out that its adult dwarves who live there? She apologises for intruding and pleads with them to let her stay - offering to cook and clean because those are skills she's familiar with which she knows they aren't good at.
Snow White doesn't portray women as weak or incapable. She isn't meant to portray them as fulfilling an assigned gender role, with a big strong Prince and a host of magical beings and animals to save her. She's showing people that kindness is its own strength. Kindness and teamwork. That, even though she has no martial or material skill, she has other qualities that are worth something just by being herself and that those qualities are in their own right something truly special. That people are, by being themselves, special. This is evident in the interactions she has with the dwarves as well - she happily accepts Grumpy as being his Grumpy self. She never once speaks down to him or treats him any differently to anyone else and the same with the other dwarves. Despite being magical beings, which some humans might think made them lesser, she treats them as equals.
She might not be the flashy, weapon-wielding, spell-slinging woman of action that other Disney characters are but she's as much a heroine. More so, in some ways, because she shows that little acts of kindness can be worth more than a sorcerer's spells, they're a magic of their own. Magic that Disney has, sadly, forgotten.
Not to mention the dwarves were very kind to Snow White and chased the evil queen in a storm that could've killed them, and they were doing it within the kindness of their hearts and made a glass coffin for her and grieved around her, showing how strong and devoted of characters they are and how beloved this Snow White was as a character.
The only way this new trashy movie can be redeemed is if these CGI dwarves cast this rude "Snow" White in a box and send her down the river.
I agree, Snow White cleaned TOGETHER with the dwarves, unlike what we see with little miss condescending here.

The strength of a lot of the older princesses was their kindness in the face of adversity and that this "goodness" would always triumph over evil and lead to love (something which up until a few years ago was considered positive). I always found it a beautiful message and it shaped who I was growing up.
Nowadays the message is that the only way to be strong is to always retaliate and dictate, and that love is useless and a weakness. A message that will lead to selfish, unkind and lonely children growing up (although luckily lots of parents are catching on that movies nowadays have terrible messages).

The director of "The Little Mermaid" was looking for an Ariel, heard Halle Bailey sing at the Grammys, had her audition and she blew the 600 other girls he auditioned out of contention. Rachel is a great singer who was the lead role in a Steven Spielberg movie and now is cast in everything, including the lead role in "The Hunger Games" spin-off. Fairytales were stories passed down through generations. I heard them as a child from my grandmother, who herself had heard them from her elders. These tales are more than just entertainment, they carry the values, morals, and lessons. In Germany, these stories hold a special place. Cities and regions take immense pride in being the birthplace of these tales. For example, the town of Kassel is associated with the Brothers Grimm, they got famous by collecting stories from all around the country. Even today, fairytales inspire children’s series, video games, and operas.
Now, Disney is claiming that our stories are outdated and is altering them to fit their woke modern standards.
I don’t claim, that it matters what color the dwarves are, and personally, I don't find it to be a major issue. In fact, I’ve never come across any mention in the original fairytale about the dwarves' ethnicity. Historically, dwarves were inspired by real mine workers, most of whom were children. These children remained small due to the harsh labor conditions that stunted their growth. In the fairytale, dwarves are depicted as small, human-like workers, but they’re not actually human. The real issue is that Disney has tried to turn the dwarves into a "woke" group of almost exclusively full-sized people. This not only demonstrates a lack of understanding of German culture but also shows that Disney doesn't grasp the historical origins of the dwarves. By altering the dwarves in this way, they diminish the unique characteristics that made these characters distinct in the first place. It's not about the color of the dwarves; it's about preserving the integrity and authenticity of the story and its characters.
In doing so, they are changing a piece of our cultural heritage. This is our culture; these are our stories. The original Snow White knew how to communicate and be assertive with the dwarves without being bossy, Rachel as Snow White utterly fails at that and comes off as condescending.
To be fair, anything scripted is not the actors’ fault; it belongs to the writers and directors. It just doesn’t help that her behavior in the public eye primed people to see her in a narcissistic light.
But it's brave. And stunning!
In the original story, Snow White was very pale due to the horrible and empty life she had led up until that point. It depicted a girl who was dead inside from abuse.
The really ironic thing is that Disney spent so long treating its version of Snow White as completely untouchable because it was so foundational and sacred to the whole operation that nothing could be allowed to cheapen it. They even waited more than twenty years after starting to release their properties on home video before finally giving in and allowing it for Snow White, long after other premium titles like Cinderella, Bambi, Fantasia, and Sleeping Beauty. And yet, they're allowing it to be the one that finally kills the public's tolerance for the live-action remake fad after ten years - and that's saying something, when you consider how dissatisfied viewers have been with the genre, without killing it.

It’s more fluid and alluring than anything Disney has released in a very long time. I agree. The animations had life and the Snow White trailer looks lifeless. We know live action remakes can be visually stunning and this feels like a high school drama club made the costumes for Snow White. Cinderella and maleficent were gorgeous movies. The way Cinderellas ball was visually made the animated version come to life. Ariel and Snow White live actions both had such high budgets but such shoddy production and costuming.

Why can't disney just remaster the old movies like games at this point. It would be so much better than the disasters that they released up until this point.
They can and they do, but it's only so many times you can do it before it becomes kind of meaningless - like they restored it digitally for the LaserDisc release, then there was the Platinum edition, a high-def remaster known as Diamond Edition, then for the BlueRay, and a year ago - 4K Ultra HD. Each time they packaged it with additional bonus features, but there is only so many times you can sell the same old movie to people... And I honestly don't even know any people who even liked the old movie that much and are still alive.

People seem to forget that Snow White is based on a german fairy tale by the brothers Grimm ("Schneewittchen und die sieben Zwerge" -> "Snow White and the seven dwarves"), Disney didn't create the characters but they get all the credits for it

Has anyone ever read the actual fairy tale? Because if they did, I doubt they would be so eager to see it... It's NOT a love story, nor is the prince a well-intentioned rescuer, nor are the 7 dwarves the happy-go-lucky sweethearts portrayed. Fairy tales are violent, gruesome. Naah She looks perfect with the Evil Queen, like for me change everything except Gal Gadot playing the evil queen. Her facial structure looks more mature and sharp than snow white who should have sweet and innocent facial structure. Not what we got on the trailer.
The crazy part is there has already BEEN an updated version of the story in the 1997: Snow White, a tale of terror with Sigourney Weaver as the jealous Stepmother. The background shots and the story itself is probably closer to the Brother's Grimm version, its darker, gritty and depicts life in that time period with a bit more realism. I really like this version more than the cartoon. The cartoon version bothered me even as a kid because Snow White just seemed too nice. I had grown up wary of people who seemed to be falsely sweet and acted timid but were talking behind your back and turning others against you, so she didnt feel real but that was the 30s and women werent really portrayed as anything other than the love interest that has to be rescued by the male character so its of its time. To modernise it, its already been done, several times, much better than what appears to be this new trainwreck version. You can be diverse and inclusive without beating people over the head with it and yeah I agree, Galdot isnt ideal for the Queen, not because she's a bad actress, far from it, but because she's not sinister enough. Meryl Streep, on the other hand, would have OWNED that role.

I personally argue that the Beauty and the Beast remake and Lion King remake were the best ones, especially because the depth of the story with the Beauty and the Beast remake is still the same as the original. My generation grew up on the “outdated” princess stories and we go to work, we are mothers and we wear many hats every day. Sometimes a movie is an escape to an ideal life and it shouldn’t be a lecture. I certainly don’t think it’s a good idea for anything on TV to give anyone life advice. That’s a parents’ job or a professional’s job.
