Lost my dad 12 years ago. I know what you’re saying. The pain never goes away. Might get numb after many years but something will pop up and you feel it again.

This song says it all. I wanna go back to the 1980s when things were simpler, people listened to the radio and bought records, watched MTV and there was no computers or cellphones. Eddie Money was one of my favorite artists and this song brings back so many bittersweet memories. Take me back to the good old days.
Everyone commenting here really hits the nail on the head. We didn't know how lucky we had it. Things will definitely never be the same and it's sad. But those were the best times of my life. And everyone I loved is gone now too. I just want those days back. "I wanna go back and do it all over but I can't go back I know".

Reading this just made me love Eddie more than I already did. I've heard countless stories about how good of a guy he was. I miss him a lot! I miss my 70s, 80s/early 90s more than I probably should. Makes me tear up a lot thinking about them.

Not sure who else feels the same, but it blows my mind that we'll never have the chance to go back and relive our early years and experience all of those great times again. I try to tell my kids everyday to cherish their teenage years now before time slips by.

Yes, but even so, it will never be as magical as what we had in the 80’s..the music, movies, arcades, freedom, cheap gas, fast cars, cruising, the malls, the fashion, decor, style..there will never be anything that compares. There may be another amazing decade, and I hope I’m able to enjoy it, but it hasn’t come yet.
My first date with my now husband was an Eddie Money concert. We met him after the show and Eddie turned to my guy and said “I’d love to wake up every morning to that,” motioning to me. That was when my husband knew he was going to marry me. RIP MONEYMAN, your’s is a legacy that will live forever in my home. 😥
To Eddie Money's family, I am so sorry for your loss. Eddie was a music icon. I enjoyed his music on 8 track tapes. R.i.p. music Man. R.wagner, Belgrade my.
This video was filmed at the old Dover Middle school in Dover NJ...I was at the school in 1980-81. This was shot in 1986...An art school is still there today.
This song was never about going back to the 80s (mostly because it was the 80s when it was written); it’s about wanting to go back in your own life to a time when you felt your were happiest, maybe your childhood or teenage years when you didn’t have to worry about responsibilities or dealing with the real world, but you know that you can’t do that and you have to grow up and mature and be the best adult you can be. Thank you Eddie, for everything! ❤
You are absolutely right! I was born in 1963 and OMG how I wish I could go back to my childhood and teen years they were without a doubt the happiest time of my life thanks to my wonderful family I was truly blessed! Love to you and yours!!
I'm 64 and it hit me today, when a friend posted a photo of the beach where I spent a ton of time my entire life, until our friends who lived there died in the past year. I immediately thought of this song, played it, and started crying like a baby.
I’m 46 and even when this song was new, I somehow felt like understood what Ed was conveying. Of course now it’s very real. I tend to think humanity peaked somewhere around 1986 😂.
This World needs to go back to 80's. No cell phones, tic tok, facebook, etc. Back when things were simple. I want to go back to the 80's. I was a teen in 80's and had so much fun.
This generation will never experience what we had in the 80's. I was in my mid 20's, what a time!!! Sucks getting old, but it is not so bad when we can review what we heard and saw.
Crying im in my 40s.. Remembering the 1980s the joy of my teens i was ignorant but happy and carefree.. Now married mom of 4 i love my life but i miss the innocence of my youth...
To all who read this: Our youth went way too fast. The times we lived in those days and the memories we made to great music like this one. Those days may never return, but nothing can stop us from searching the songs of yesterday and closing our eyes and dreaming of those days. It's all we can do now, Damn it!. RIP Eddie,..and thank you for all the songs and memories.
We never realize how precious those times are of our youth. We didn't treasure them, like everyone. We have sweet memories, but if I'd just known how much those times truly meant, I would've stepped back, took a breath and savored it all. If I could only go back...
Eddie opened up for the Stones in 78. I was 18 and there with 3 friends, we stayed overnight with a few thousand other folks waiting for the stones. When Eddie came on he kick our asses and got us ready for the Stones, Some Girls tour. A great time, my 3 friends have all passed but i'm here to tell you this!! Eddie's music is fantastic!!
Rest in Peace, Eddie. I pray you found your ticket to eternal paradise. I wanna go back to your concert in Erie, PA years ago to relive that great time and the great tunes you sang. It's a day spent listening to your music. Cheers, Eddie
The 40 year olds in the 80’s were saying how they want to go back to the 50’s and 60’s. Instead why not make this time even better. Go out and make some memories.

Never wish eternal hell on anyone, you will live your life in regret, rather pray that in your dads last days which I’m sure he knew and regretted being a pos,,, that he asked forgiveness of God. Us in the 80's as high school aged kids wondering why this old man would ever want to come back to where we were at the time. Us now as Eddie's age fighting back the tears hearing this song because now it makes so much freaking sense.
Yeah, I loved this song as a kid. Now that I'm middle aged, I have a much greater appreciation of the song. This song about growing older is probably one of the best I've ever heard about the subject. It captures the process perfectly. RIP Eddie.
I was fortunate enough to be front roll center at his no control tour back in about 1987. Memories fade. Wasn’t old enough to drink but still got slammed. There was joint after joint being passed I told the old man at the time he probably was 40 lol. He should be ashamed does his kids know about this. He laughed and pointed to his son partying with us
Eddie money was a sweetheart. Met him at one of his concerts. I'll never forget him kissing my cheek and wishing me a happy birthday. God bless you Eddie
Wow, what a great song. I just turned 49 this summer and this song brings back so many memories. It is funny how this song has more meaning now than when it came out. We had no idea how good things were and how fast time would go.
My twin brother is paralyzed and I am here with him and it's gut wrenching but this song started playing and we started crying and talking. I'll never forget this Eddie Money #roll5dice

Want to go back to the late 80s. Simpler times. Eddie was born in 1949, he was 35 in this 1984 video. Nostalgic era for anybody that age. I am now...52. A 1972 child. Fond memories from the 80s... Time flies guys. Enjoy it while you still can. Be right with God. God Bless.
Eddie was like family to me, he hugged my daughter after a show, I've lost track of how many times I've seen him live, he always was, still is, and always will be a huge part of not only my life but my entire family's life. God Bless You Eddie. 🌴🌴
Rip buddy, wouldn't we all like to go back to when this song came out.I turned 50 this year so this was back in the best of times when this song was released..♥️😎
I'm only 35...but I've always appreciated talent, and artists who don't sell out and give in to swearing and negativity in order to sell records. Eddie's music makes you feel so good. If there is a heaven, he's there.
I wanna go back to the 80's, my teen years. Things were simpler, I'd do things different, right some wrongs, take opportunities I turned down, take risk that at the time I was too scared or shy to do. Yes getting old suck, your actual vision gets worse but your hindsight gets clearer and clearer.
Amen to that. I was a teen too in the 80s and definitely would love to go back to this time!!! Just turned 49 and didn't want to even celebrate my birthday bc I just feel so down at this phase in my life. What I wouldn't do to go back again!!!

I do the same Vito, I always tell my son to look around and enjoy these moments because they are truly great days.

What a sweet comment
This song was never about going back to the 80s (mostly because it was the 80s when it was written); it’s about wanting to go back in your own life to a time when you felt your were happiest, maybe your childhood or teenage years when you didn’t have to worry about responsibilities or dealing with the real world, but you know that you can’t do that and you have to grow up and mature and be the best adult you can be. Thank you Eddie, for everything! ❤

@@alwaysmiserable .... Wow,,, I am truly sorry for the abuse you endured, however the longer you hold on to it, wherever he is he is still winning. I pray you can heal in your very soul from it all. You can make the change and surrender it over to Almighty God, rebuking that generational curse in Jesus Christ Powerful Name. Almighty God is thee only one who can heal you, if you allow HIM. Never wish eternal hell on anyone, you will live your life in regret, rather pray that in your dads last days which I’m sure he knew and regretted being a pos,,, that he asked forgiveness of God. You see when someone treats others so horribly you have to step back and realize they treated you the same way they were treated as a child. That’s why I said God gives us power and authority to break and rebuke those generational curses. You are nothing like your father was right?
