Lyrics:
There's a story in my eyes
Turn the pages of desire
Now it's time to trade those dreams
For the rush of passion's fire
I can feel you tremble when we touch
And I feel the hand of fate
Reaching out to both of us
I can't hold back
I'm on the edge
I can't hold back
Your voice explodes
Inside my head
I can't hold back
I won't back down
Girl, it's too late
To turn back now
🎉 retro greetings from coastal Mississippi. This song is 40 years old as of 2024.RIP Jimi. You were the Survivor of the 80's. Man, l loved this song. It still holds up❤
I lost my virginity to this song. Now, since she is no longer alive? This song puts a smile on my face and makes me cry at the same time. That's what the great songs do. Regardless of the recognition they received in their time. They solidify a memory of your personal history, seal it in stone and keep that memory alive.......forever.
Awesome way of putting that my friend.
Nice!!
Every word you said is damn true💯🎉🎉💥💥

You mean that you guys actually cried? ;-/

Same here. Id love to go back to 1984 and do it all over again.
This song still holds up all these years later. What a voice.
Yes it absolutely does John
Man I still get goosebumps listening - what an incredible voice!
and ALWAYS will , a true classic NEVER goes out of style ;)
Agreed, I have to admit this dudes voice is equal to the great Steve Perry. Survivors star didn’t shine too long, but for a few years they were a true powerhouse. Their songs can still move hearts today.
For many years, I actually thought it was Steve Perry singing this song.@richarddowd4001
Unless you actually lived it, you can’t grasp the magic of this song coming on in a roller rink. You catch a girls Eye and she catches yours, pure 80s magic ensues
Miss those days 🎉
Yes
Absolutely....miss those days
Lmao yea ok homie
Ya I remember the 80s growing up. Listening to music like this with my mother. Wouldn't trade for anything
This song truly is medicine - makes you feel great inside and out! RIP Jimi.
These lyrics truly resonate. Hopefully everyone has at least one person cross their path like this story tells.....
@Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT you should check out Dino Jelusick. He's fantastic!
sure is... play drums.. so, more than once a day. not too much.
I was born in 1968. Survivor was the best in 84- 85. I was a junior and senior. With Jimi Jamisons soaring voice. You would never have thought that he could sing like that. He was country as all get out. Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. But when he sang it was like another entity. His talent will live on forever. 😀
i was also born in 68......litttle farther east in knoxville....but likewise a Tennessean....
Yes, that's right. Jimi Jamisons voice so powerfully high and soulful. It is interesting that many bands of the 80s had their best phase in the years 1983/85. Best music, big hits...
1968 here as well. Remember the 80's fondly back in Montreal!
I was born in 1968 also. Western NY. I loved Survivor. This song takes me back to high school!
Jimi wasn't born in Memphis. He was born in Durant, Mississippi. However, he was raised in Memphis by his mother, Dorothy & her family. Check it out.
This is one of the more underappreciated special rock songs from the 80's. It ticks a bunch of boxes. The dynamics and background vocals are especially killer in this song!
Jimi Jamison and Steve Perry...the greatest singing voices ever
And Freddie Mercury, and Paul Roger's of Bad Company.
And Paul, Rogers and Brad Delp. And the name that you don’t always hear, but I really love David Coverdale‘s voice as well.
Yes and David Coverdale v.Whitesnake

I was thinking about the other day. I think history will look back and the 80s will be looked at as the pinnacle of American civilization. No major wars going on, the financial apex of the county. Everything was full of hope and optimism, no iPhones, no social media BS. It was really an amazing decade to grow up in.

One day the plastic fake world will forget great singers like Jimi Jamison but until my dying day I will always remember the great singer
he was .
No, friend. What the world will hopefully forget is the plastic fakery that took over. Today's youth are discovering these timeless classics through youtube when they're not wasting time on the immature Tiktok. I want to remain optomistic that young artists will look to this era not just as old-school to mock for it's cheesiness. But as aspiring them to create the anthems of tomorrow that will chant away this embarrasing era of twerking, sampling, autotune, banality, and vulgarity.
Does anyone miss the 80s?
What is it? The music? The hair? lol! It’s just so 80’s 😊

The sexiest man to ever hold a mic, imo! He had such a strong, beautiful range that never failed him. He was still hitting these notes in 2014, right before his unfortunate death. I'm just now appreciating just how incredible his vocal range truly was. Beautiful, beautiful man❤❤

Get Survivors Greatest Hit's, they'll ALL come flooding back!
must be a lot of joy finding that unnamed tune in your head.
this song was just playing over the Walmart speakers.. I had to hear the whole thing again
His great voice and his personality help make Survival such a great band, and his amazing voice help the band, shot to superstardom, and made their songs have so much heart and soul and gritty and you could tell he loved performing and he made this band,so much better and I believe that, nothing against the original singer, but I think Jami Jamisons voice made these great songs of the band,so much more depth and range of the song's and it help make this band to where when you think of the Rocky movies, the great soundtracks to enhance the story lines and I believe that without Jimi Jamison as lead vocals, I don't think they would have had the success they had, without him,and He will be missed and I don't think they will find a better Singer to replace him, but I believe too that hopefully they had a great management team, and they all could live comfortably for years to come, but I remember seeing them back in 1985 at RUPP ARENA in Lexington Kentucky and Survivor Opened up for REO Speedwagon and they both put on one hell of a great concert and Jimi Jamison was the lead singer and he didn't disappoint, but again,we will miss him dearly!!!!!!!!!
Jimi delivered his vocals with maximum passion and the band did well to deliver instrumentation to match his passion. This song reminds me of my early days as a radio DJ. Good times.

Back when Auto-tune wasn't a thing, you either had the pipes or you didn't. There were so many good singers that could really sing and they gave us so many good songs and memories that almost everyone who was a teenager in the 80's would go back in a heartbeat.
Yes the real singers would never need that shit

As a rock lead vocalist Jimi is the best I have ever heard, and, other than Burning Heart, is within 3 weeks of first hearing more of his stuff
Survivor were the best - it just doesn't get any better than this. I remember seeing a rock band from Scotland called Knightrider playing live in Edinburgh and I said to their singer Tam Toye "Your voice sounds like Jimi Jamison from Survivor" and the guy told me that was the finest compliment anyone could bestow. That's how well respected Survivor were. Other rock bands saw Survivor as like a benchmark, a higher level of musicianship and talent. True genius.
I must say that I truly do feel lucky and blessed to have grown up with this music. RIP Jimi Jamison, you're still considered a rock icon to millions.🎸

You know what the worst part about the 80’s is? When they ended.
Yes
Those were my oldies. Can't think of many 90s music I like. Less so for today's music.
Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple/Rainbow): "I had seen Jimi in Survivor and was very impressed. I remember going down to Tennessee to meet him and I really liked him as a person. He then came up to try out with Deep Purple. We did one song, I think it was 'Going Down' and he was so good I immediately stopped playing and just said, 'You're in!' He said, 'Don't you want to do more songs?' I said, 'No, you are so damn good, I know that you are perfect for the job.' We went out and celebrated at a restaurant. I was full of ideas due to his melodic, soulful voice, and he could improvise much better than a lot of singers I knew so he had every aspect I was looking for in a singer. Very, very nice guy. Very humble. Unfortunately, two weeks later, we were told he couldn't join the band. We never found out why. I think it had something to do with the management. I was surprised and saddened by what happened, and it was a mystery to me what had gone down. It was a bad moment for me. I rated him as one of the top singers in the country."

Paul Blart Mall Cop features such an iconic song because the movie was partly produced by Adam Sandler. (Alao checkout Zookeeper with Kevin James, another Adam Sandler flick). Sandler always picks the classic songs from the 80s for his movies; the type of songs where you say, "Man, I havnt heard that song in forever !" He definitely has taste when it comes to the songs for movies. Thanks Adam!
They just don't make great music like this anymore😢God I miss the 80s!!!😢😢😢😢
No, they just don't play new music by most older artists/singer/groups on the radio. The group Find Me recently covered Survivor's song "I See You In Everyone" from the Vital Signs album on their new upcoming album. There are songs from Bob Seger's last 3 albums that I would rank among his best songs. Particularly the songs: "I Knew You When", "Gates of Eden", "Are You", and "Face the Promise", etc. Seger had a platinum album when he was 60/61 years old (Face the Promise - 2006). The co-songwriter of this song, "I Can't Hold Back", Jim Peterik, had 2 albums released this month that feature songs written/co-written by him. Jimi Jamison's previously unreleased country/southern rock album and the newest World Stage album. One of the most popular songs from the new World Stage album is "Been to the Mountain" a rock song sung by Chicago's former lead singer (for 30/31 years), Jason Scheff. Peterik is going to be working with producer Ron Nevison (who produced Vital Signs and When Seconds Count) on a new album this year.

Nic Cipriani thanks, interesting read.
Nic Cipriani Wow, she's STILL beautiful!! OMG
I just read the linked story about Lee Ann Marie and was very impressed. She was very appreciative of her Survivor Video opportunity and has become, even more beautiful over time. She IS... a very special person !
Yes, I do. It was the greatest time in my life.
Man, the memories, coach drivin' us all around town, letting us take turns shifting gears, " Get my stick, guys, COME ON NOW!" Talk about wild sweaty nights! Coach would always scream, "Oh, God, I can't hold back, ugh, oh!"
I need a shower after reading that
Whoa, EXACTLY what coach would say, as our joy ride would come to a close, as the sun was comin' up..."Time for school, guys"! ""We better all hit the SHOW-ERS!" But he was cool about helpin' ya out, get those hard to reach parts of yer back n' all...picking up the soap for ya and so on...just brings a chuckle or two now I think of it. A six pack would be waitin' on the bench afterward. Crack 'em, slam 'em..."Here's to COACH!". School bell rings...things were simple back then.
Graduated from high school in 85 and college in 90. Best times of my life! I remember when this song was released in the winter of 84. I was a senior in high school.
Leaving home and heading west as a kid, this song played in my Z28. Would pay to go back on that Arizona interstate for just 5 min and this song
What year was the z-28? Had a chocolate brown 79 w/t-tops loved that car
+C130 LM
I owned both a Beautiful '78 Silver Z and a Sweet gold '80 Z with T-tops and a 4 speed.
MISS both those cars and cruising around cranking songs like this.
+mowowie sweet, I had a 79 black and red rally sport no t-tops had a 4 barrel carb no fast but quick. Wrapped that damn car around a telephone pole before I got my z. God I miss those days.... Later bro
+Kompa Tevez dude, you need to shave that cheesy mustache you have and stfu!
+planet6 you need to get back in your spaceship and fly back to planet 6
This song still makes my heart go pitter-pat all these years, from since it was first released. Love the video story, too. I'm a forever extra diehard Journey lover, but Survivor and Jimi Jamison has a place in my heart, for sure. ❤️🙏❤️
