Hey Guys, Just a quick FYI. So I'm getting asked a lot " why didn't you sort out all the rust on the underside, suspension components, radiator brackets etc etc " well this is only the first stage of restoration , in this episode the car is "restored" to a roadworthy condition so that I can enjoy it guilt free through the spring summer and autumn months but come winter it will be getting "restored" to showroom condition. I hope this answers most of your questions and puts your fears at rest. Oh and as for the barrage of " why did you cover up the fog lights" Its a Subaru rally heritage thing that started with the original Impreza back in 1993 on the world rally stages.

I'd say I don't thats all that is needed mate. I think our maestro out there is truly passionate about restoring things to their original or better glory and takes enormous amounts of time to focus on the details. I know for sure, if I had the money and the donor car etc I still wouldn't be able to do the justice we get to see on the RRC channel, skills+passion+desire to do the right thing= RRC....

@@RRCRestoration Where can I access the cheat-codes for fast forward assembly without cursing and skinned knuckles? I love my 2001 Legacy rolling restoration project, but every-time I get it apart for a simple maintenance task it turns into a week long can of carnivorous worms. Just replacing the handbrake mechanism I ended up buying parts in America and having them delivered to a mate in Texas who then posted them to me - six days rather than six weeks from Japan!!

This may be great video? I just got it in my feed and need to say. It's either a barn find in which we know who owns it and have a contact with them as a means to get legal possession. OR it's abandoned and legal possession is obtained by default through time elapsed with notices to remove or noone has done anything about it being where it was dumped, that an accepted legal process has relinquished their rights to it. . You need to make a distinction so all barn finds don't automatically get lumped into a grey area called abandoned as well?

I used to work as a mechanic for Subaru and I own a 2019 STI. I have always been a die hard fan for the older Subarus though, I have my own plans to build a hawkeye soon myself you just further convinced me to to it! You did a fantastic job restoring this Blob eye WRX. Thank you for saving this Subaru from a fate it didn't deserve... the sad part was it was over something as simple as turbo failure leading to a unnecessary part out. Hope to see the finished product soon great job and thank you for saving another piece of history!

    Hello!
I've discovered your channel, I'm a fan of car restorations especially classic cars or those that have marked my childhood (people born in the 1990s, give or take a year, we've seen sagas like "Fast & Furious", we've played Need for Speed, WRC, Gran Turismo... etc) and you're literally living my dream and that of many people like me.
I've always understood these kinds of things as personal passions; some people build model airplanes, Warhammer, and the like, others spend their hours surfing or practicing a sport. When you find your passion, you can spend HOURS, DAYS, MONTHS, and even years dedicating yourself to it and leaving a masterpiece like that. It's a pity not to have the money to buy those cars or to have limited mechanical knowledge to undertake a similar project like that...
You've gained a subscriber, a hug from the Canary Islands, Spain! :)

That's a gorgeous car. One of my favorites.
Sparkplug story: I used to own a 2003 Ford Escape with a V6 engine in it. The sparkplugs had three on the top side of the engine and three on the bottom side of the engine. The top three were easy to replace. The bottom three were hidden behind the exhaust manifold which required it to be removed to access them. Needless to say, I replaced 3 sparkplugs instead of 1 when I did that job.

That’s an incredible amount of work and time you have put into making this restoration, and then there’s the video and editing as well, you really are extremely good doing this and I appreciate every video you make. I’d love to follow in your footsteps but having seen the payments for the Snap on torque wrench, I’ll have to just enjoy your work instead 😁😁.

This is my first time watching a restoration video on a car and it's of one of my favourite Japanese car brands, I've been in love with the Subaru Impreza WRX STI ever since I was a kid that I would always dream of owning one as an adult, sadly the dream has yet to come true.
Plus I always wanted to try working on a car but sadly I'm not mechanically inclined but my boyfriend is who does work on cars once he can afford to work on one. Plus he's helping me to learn more about cars especially at the scrap yard that's minutes away from our home

This is fun to watch - more of a reassembly than traditional restoration. It always stuns me how cars in that part of the world rust so quickly. That would be unheard of in my corner of the US, even after 30 or 40 years.

The spark plugs aren't all that bad, IMO. Remove the intake, battery and wash fluid reservoir and have a variety of short extensions on hand, and it's easy after 2 or 3 times. I owned a Buick that was in a completely different category. It had a transverse-mounted V6 that had originally been designed for RWD cars. The rear bank of plugs was right up against the firewall. To remove them, the manual said basically "disconnect engine mounts and rotate engine/trans forward 10 degrees." Now THAT'S tough spark plugs lol.

Hey man I had this video pop up on my feed and I really enjoyed your work. As I have next to no mechanical aptitude I greatly admire people like you who are so intimately familiar with just about anything regarding cars.
I think you did a great job with the whole thing. From the footage, the editing and selecting of footage, the commentary and last but, not least your formidable skill with cars. Thanks for taking us along with you on your project. Very cool.
I hope this finds you and your family well.
P.s. I have a Glaswegian Aunt who is the best. I love her stories about growing up in Glasgow with her family.

Its the 3rd time i watched this Video. Veary enjoyable. As a little tipp, when putting the Oilpan or a Bucket under the Oilfilter, you can take a old Screwdriver and a Hammer and punch a hole into the middle. When draining the Filter, you make a little less mess and it only takes coupple seconds.
