  • Today I have the honor and pleasure of sharing with you a special #WatchTalk with Sandro Fratini-owner of one of the world's most prestigious watch collections, and lover of beautiful timepieces. In this interview on location at his horology themed Hotel L'Orologio in Florence, Italy, I chat with Sandro about his 2000 piece watch collection valued at over 1 billion euros, and how his passion for watches began. In this video we'll take a look at a few watches from Sandro's collection, including his Rolex Oyster Perpetual, Tissot Telemeter Chronograph, and Squale 1521. We also discuss his love of Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe, the rarest watches in his collection, his preferred desert island watch, his current grail watch, how his watches have inspired his work, and more. What do you think about the watches featured in this video? Please share in the comments!

This man is literally the antithesis of many TH-cam Watch Content Creators who is screaming about how much a watch is worth, and what they can flip it for. I’m not mad at them, but this is what I imagine a true watch collector, I mean lover, is supposed to be. Thanks for the great interview!

This is the reason why my watch channel of choice is TUG/TGV. Thought-provoking insights, great interviews, unbiased opinion, and much better than the channels where your being sold something or shouty channels that think they are in their 20s or trying to poke a stick a someone else for likes and subs. If it wasn't for this channel, and now in my 50's and coming a little late to the party, I wouldn't even own a watch, now I have DJ 41, Seiko FM, and of course a DW290. TUG, the gentleman's channel.

Wonderful show, Wonderful man. Brings back memories of fine Italians I met there in the 70's. Humble and wise. Also bought my first nicer watch in Terni in 1976 at age 19, a Tissot with an internal bezel. And I would imagine this is the time that Mr. Fratini was building his denim business ... Denim was starting to pop about that time in Italia. Brilliant. Bis!

Wonderful interview. Signore Fratini feels exactly about his watch collection as I do about my fountain pens. I love watches too, but my watch collection is not huge, like my pen collection. I feel the same as he does - I have never sold a fountain pen. I have traded some duplicates a few times, and I sometimes give pens away for special occasions.

He clearly separates his horology passion from his business sense. Even in the hotels horology is a design motif while the amenities, location, etc. drive the business success. I'm unfamiliar with his great success in denim having always bought the least expensive/most functional jeans for my purposes rather than what I apprehend to be designer jeans. (Designer clothes on my frame would be a source of humor rather than joy, lol.) But it's hard to argue with his success!
