@freeborncanadian sadly you’re right but I loved that album! I was 15 years old and loved them since 74. I was six when I liked a girl across the street and she had a teenage brother, kiss on every inch of his walls in his room. I went in there and it changed me for life I think. However I hated the band after Ace and Peter were gone it wasn’t the same after love gun for me. Now they are just embarrassing and frauds that rip off fans and they don’t even hide it anymore. It’s a money machine that’s all and that’s what they have shown long living fans. A big FU.. I’m not saying pathetic ACE or PETER could save them now either, they are also a mess. Kiss was done after love gun period but I did like creatures, even though ace nor Peter played a note!

This isn't bland playing a classic song for the 3000th time to fetch the nostalgia dollar. It's in your face and it's got urgency. Vinnie got greedy? He rightly or wrongly wanted a part of KISS more than being a hired gun. He wanted long-term and a stake in KISS Inc. Foolish perhaps. Can't blame him. Quite a few artists in the 80s used hired guns, treated them badly, then dumped them. Ozzy and Sharon Osborne were notorious for it.

All the ads, posters, radio spots said Eric, Paul, Gene and Ace. When the curtain went down, no Ace!! Nobody knew who Vinnie was, but it was KISS. And I came to see Eric. He didn't disappoint. He played hard and his drums sounded HUGE! I was lucky enough to see them on the Hot In the Shade tour with a sold out show and all the lights and explosions and lasers and shit! Eric was so self assured at this show, the lights on his big ass Ludwig kit were so bright, he wore sunglasses all the show. I'm so glad I got to see him on this tour; he was where he belonged and he owned that stage. Rest easy, Eric. You will NEVER be forgotten. ❤ M

I saw this tour in New Orleans in February of 1983, "Mardi Gras in the Dome."
It was my only time seeing KISS in makeup, and it was freakin' HEAVY.
Eric and Vinnie were killin' it.
After the show, they departed the floor of the Dome on Mardi Gras floats, throwing special doubloons made just for that show. I was lucky enough to catch a couple.
Trivia: Vinnie's gold Jackson Rhoads V was the second prototype of this model. It was destined for Randy, but he died before he could take delivery of it. A few months later, after joining KISS, Vinnie went to see Grover Jackson about getting something distinctive to use on stage. The decision was made to give Randy's V to Vinnie.

Yes there may have been protesting against kiss by a small group of religious groups which is been going on since the beginning of rock 'n' roll. For the most part any protest or publicity would increase sales and concert demand. The lack of sales that kiss had during this. Had nothing to do with any protest. Public protest increase sales by providing free Publicity and interest
Did the negative protest hurt Ozzy Osbourne at this time?
What 16-year-old kid is going to listen to a religious group and not by a record? A promoter who can make money will do so regardless of any religious protest they will simply find a venue where they can play
. The lack of popularity had to do with the fact that kiss put out three crappy records in a row starting with dynasty, which was a complete sellout of the hard-core kiss fans, this continued with unmasks which was a weak gay pop production and with the disaster of the elder . This trifecta of crap destroyed the base hard-core fan. So when they came out with the real album in 1982 creatures of the night and had a great tour they had already destroyed their fan base. Nothing to do with any religious group protesting which has happened since the 1950s. And never stopped record sales in the past.

I saw every American KISS tour starting with Dynasty until present and the Creatures tour with Vinnie and Eric was always my favorite KISS show by far. So loud, heavy, and in your face. Now let me say I love Ace and I went to the Creatures show mainly to see him and when I learned outside the arena that Vinnie was on this tour I was really bummed out. By the time the concert was over though I realized I hadn’t even missed Ace. Vinnie was so awesome. I wish he hadn’t fallen out with the band because he was the perfect replacement for Ace like Eric was the perfect replacement for Peter. I would have loved to see more than one more album with this lineup. As a metal head I had been longing for a heavier more metal KISS and this line up was it hands down.

I hated Vinnie back in those days, probably because I was a huge Ace fan and nobody could replace him. Looking back now, though, Vinnie brought some inspiration, energy and good songwriting to the aging band. They made some good albums with Bruce Kulick, but imagine had they just hired on Vinnie as an equal partner, and let him do his damn awesome extended solos, how good the next few albums would have been.

Vinnie and Eric really solidified Kiss. I remember being 10 years old and hearing “I Love It Loud” and thought Kiss was the heaviest band alive. This tour was a total disaster from the start. I don’t think anybody really knew that Ace was out and Vinnie was in. Going to South American was the only way to make up for the abysmal North American tour. I wish I had seen them on this tour, but unfortunately they didn’t tour near Philly, but I got the chance to see them at The Tower Theatre during the “Lick It Up” Tour. It was my first time seeing and they didn’t disappoint. It’s crazy to think that I saw them when I was just 11 years old. The setlist was pretty much identical to the “Creatures of the Night” Tour, they just threw in some songs from “Lick It Up”.
