👍🏼👍🏼 you’re so right!!! And it is according to polls. I’d read a poll was taken on which band was the best that day. 60% came in Queen, followed by Bowie, McCartney, Elton, U2, Collins & Madonna in Philly. I see most were in the UK lol….that breaks up the 40! Going down as [one of] if not the greatest live rock performance in history. BOOM!!
2024......Still the greatest live performance in history. It will never be surpassed, Pure unadulterated talent. Freddie had millions of people singing along with every note. Queen truly had the world mesmerised with this fantastic performance.
Absolutely. Live Aid was a brilliant concert that Queen, and Freddie Mercury, totally stole. I don't like being old but I love that I am old enough to have been there. xxx
I was a teenager when Queen was super popular. I listened to their music even when studying for our exams.😊 The greatest band of all in that generation. I'm still listening in 2024. Who's with me? 🤣
Freddy had that whole stadium in the palm of his hand. To have the ability to stop singing and have the audience take over without question is power. Everybody loved him and if I don't miss my guess, we all still do. RIP
Not a God because we have one God that is Jesus Christ. Freddie was a Legend and one of a kind!!! There is no one that can come close to his talent or Queens for that matter!! Pure raw talent like no other!!!
Not sure about that Michael Jackson, Prince etc. But top of the game in their niche. This was a great moment in music history/politics - when the world said NO to doing nothing as people STARVE.
@@mogadon7 Freddie started his journey with Bohemian Rap before MJ Thriller and Queen was established before Prince. They were all talented but no one can beat Freddie, sorry, and I love all three. OH, and I did see Freddie live 3 times and Michael once. Best 4 shows of my life.
Watch Bowies last concert as Ziggy Stardust at Hammersmith Odeon, 1973. Not saying he is a bigger showman than Mercury but if I had to pick, I would definitely chose this concert every time someone asks me "If you could travel back in time, what concert would you got to?" ;)
For me it's Elvis Presley he's always been my top choice. Like others have said MJ and Prince they're not in the same league at all. They're good, just not their level.
My favorite story about this performance is that the first thing Freddie heard when he stepped off stage was his good friend Elton John, paying him a compliment by telling him “Thanks a lot you just fucked it up for the rest of us!”
I'm 33. I was born after this. I grew up in a family who loves rock. I grew up believing this was one of the greatest rock performances ever. I grew up, I still believe. This is still my favorite performance ever.
Freddy was so absolutely ON during this performance! The band was so tight too. Amazing. I watched it on TV in 1985- I was 20 years old, dancing in my living room, loving the magic that was coming through my TV screen. Now at nearly 59, I'm watching it on my tablet in bed, as my dancing days are over... but my head is happily bobbing in time with the music. This has to be the 15th time I've seen this, & it does not get old. Love it!!
Imagine a time when mobile phones weren't invented and people stood and watched great music being performed by real artists and musicians, things aren't quite what they used to be are they? 🤔😅 Anyway rock on people of TH-cam and keep listening to QUEEN! 🔥🤘🙌👏👊💖🔥
The funniest thing about this was that no other band wanted this particular spot in the show. But Freddie was smart enough to know it would be broadcast in the USA at prime time and he took it over his agent's objections. People who had never seen Queen live got a taste of the magic, talent and charisma of the group. The rest is history.
No light show, no wild set, no wireless mics or earpieces, no costume changes, no sweetener tracks...just sheer talent and showmanship from all of them..
I believe it's often quoted as the greatest live set ever. Can't disagree. I watch it at least twice a year. Definitely one of the top 10, if not 3, bands of all time. 4 great song writers and all genre changing musicians in their own right.
@@kiza4178 same here.i was 17 in 1985.im 56 now but seeing it after all these years still makes the hairs on back of my neck stand up.still remember waiting for queen to come on as was watching at home.just fantastic. To think how much more brilliant music with them if Freddie hadn't died in 1991.in my opinion mercury was the best male singer ever.
For those who keep asking if anybody is watching in 20XX year.. the answer is yes. Weve been watching since the 1970s and well continue until we cant watch anymore!
PERFECT. No lip-synching, nothing prerecorded, just a 100 percent live on stage performance, the likes of which we may hear again...and I'm not holding my breath.
Most singers, bands and celebrities of today live on their reputations and hype-created legends that never existed in the first place. In the 20th century people actually had to be good at something to be famous...and be able to prove it.
My mom loved queen and Everytime I watch and listen to this I feel like she's right here whistling away.....she was a whistler.... I love you mom RIP 2020
Best live rock performance EVER..... no questions, no argument, no exception. Wish I could have been there. Never in history has anyone had such command of 70,000 people. No politician, no president, no actor, no athlete..... nobody! What a wonderful person Freddie was!
Yeah, it was a memorable Concert. I remember watching it at home, in 1985, it seems such a long time ago now. Queen's performance was one of the highlights of the day for me. A long with : U2's. It's a bit emotional listening /and watching this footage in October 2022
Mi fa pensare alla mia mamma che non c’è più e alla vita che ci ha potuto insegnare sulle differenze sessuali perché ognuno è uguale a tutti indistintamente senza diversità ❤
Im only 19 now, but what would i give to experience this in my teenage years. Must have been great times for music. I feel like music was worth so much more back then😢
It was. Radio was KING. And in my ears....it still is. I was 14 when this happened and as G-d as my witness, I've never seen its equal in the 39 years since.
I remember this like it was yesterday, clichéd as that is ! But 1985 was yesterday to me. I LOVED the 1980' s. The music, the fashion, the whole thing. I was 23 when Live Aid happened. I was a student nurse, and my 3 flatmates and I sat and watched the whole thing. We sang, we danced, we laughed and we cried. It was a very moving event. We felt very much part of something bigger, something important. It was a real zeitgeist moment in time . In our naive innocence, we thought that with the amount of money raised, it would bring about such changes in Africa. We were wrong of course . But I will NEVER forget that day 😊
The day he passed, our entire high school had a moment of silence. Many thanks to the teachers who understood and respected how much music meant to us. Thank you, Freddy. Thank you, Queen. Pity most kids today will never remember Live Aid.
You can't remember something that was long gone before you were even born, the comment made no sense whatsoever. I however do remember that event and we were so upset it was somewhere we couldn't at that time get to lol. The TV was enough but for those who were actually there it must have been amazing.
Clearly the news was released the next day which is when we all mourned. Thete is a time diffferemce too. Lol. No internet back then. Not everything was immediate then.
@@ravenmoonspicer4781 Yep we had a section in our morning assembly at school, including a silence and recognition of his achievements. That was in a UK primary school too (ages 5 to 11.) No idea what day the assembly was (clearly not Sunday) but it absolutely happened, and I remember it vividly, as queen were such a huge part of my childhood.
I’ve watched/listened to this 25 X or more. As screwed up as our world is this makes or should make you happy. It works for me. Yanni is another that can bring the world together in his music.
Because of the satellite link to Philadelphia, MTV, and all the stations around the world, 2 billion people witnessed this moment in time. It changed the world, and it changed me. Never again will more than half the world watch something together, laugh together, sing together. This moment will never be matched until the end of time.
@@photoisca7386 I never said it did, I just named several different reasons the concert reached as many people as it did. (as well as the other live concert that contributed to the viewership. In Philly). I never said the Philly concert was the reason it was a success, just a factor. No need to be a petty jerk about it. Good grief what an insufferable and incorrect reply. Get over yourself.
Second that. Watched it on TV like you. Was an incredible time to be alive and a part of something, even if it was just being caught up in the moment with half the world. Queen in London and in Philly, The Cars doing Drive. Just amazing.
My son asked, how can so many people come when there is no social media to announce such event. Told him, son, our times was a unique era that can never be duplicated. The bottom line of live aid is to help a famine stricken country. We were brought by a common love to help others, and it was so genuine and pure, that’s why so many came and watch in every country. Those who helped were never mentioned and do not need to. We need this again❤
There was social media back then. It was called the radio. I live in Philly, the other half of this concert. The local rock stations promoted the hell out of this for months before.

I saw them when I was in College, got back to late . We were locked out of our dorm, thank goodness a friend let us sleep in the basement of his dorm. Was so worth it, best concert I ever saw.🎉Freddie, such an amazing voice. MAY HE RIP.
Here it is 2022, almost 40 years later, and I can’t stop watching. Freddie’s voice was just amazing. Such a awesome performer. The whole band very talented!
To answer is anyone watching this in 2024 ..Hell ya by far the best lead singer of all time for a man as sick as he was he saved the whole concert I truly miss that God of music thank you to Queen for getting me through all my ups and downs.....
if this was a different band you normally get upset because you're so much into singing then they cut and transitioned to another song but then you realized "oh radio ga ga!" yeah!!!
@@juanderingsoul They cut the song suddenly because in this concert, every band had only 20 minutes to play, therefore they couldn't play the whole song
Greatest voice ever! And such a body, strutting and sliding..... nobody does a show like Freddie & Queen. I'm almost 80, so I've seen & listened to lots in my lifetime. Thank you, Freddie.
It never gets old. Every now and then someone comes along that is just too big for this world. Rest in peace Freddie. The world will never let you be forgotten.
I could put this performance on a loop and watch it forever. I saw black and white poster of Freddy once and it said, "When I was a lad, my mother told me I could be anything I wanted to be. So I became a legend." How right he was. The rush it must have been looking out and seeing 73,000 people knowing every word and loving every minute of your remarkable talent. He made the world a better place and will be remembered forever.
Im 41 this year and watched it with my parents as a kid. My dad still talks about how Freddy stole the show and we still watch it regularly. You’re right it’s special ❤
Artistically, it's not necessarily an incredible loss, don't think Queen had more than 1 solid album left in them. But to pass at such an early age is always a tragedy, no argument about that.
@@chelsblue7370 They made NIght At The Opera album. Declared most artistic rock album of all times. They didn't made one solid album, they made album and create history.
I agree as well!!! It makes it even more special/significant now , knowing that Freddie was so terribly unwell at that very moment in time when doing the concert, yet gave such a polished, heartfelt, perfect (or as close to, as far as I’m concerned) performance!!!! He knew it was going to be the last time he performed live, as did his fellow Band Mates, Family and certain close friends, etc.
@@brisvegasblonde6191 I don’t want to say you are wrong with your facts but live Aid was not Queens last live performance with Freddy. Fact, Freddy was sick with the Virus at this time and showing various symptoms but not yet officially diagnosed, that did not come until 1987. Queens final live performance with Freddy out front took place on 9 August 1986 at Knebworth Park in England. Freddy would pass away from the AIDS Virus late 1991. It really doesn’t matter because Freddy was sick and Queens Live aid performance has been judged by the top artist as being the best live performance ever of all time.
Don't agree - they were the certainly band who used the performance most successfully, to promote the remainder of their career. But there were lots of very popular performances on the day - Bowie, Sting, McCartney, U2, Elton John, Madonna etc were at the peak of their careers. This wasn't a big thing for them Queen were going nowhere in 1985. It was a huge thing for them
I miss the times when technology didn't turn people's brains into mush and when relationships between people were more lasting and real, when you listened to music from purchased records, your own collection, and not from fucking Spotify, from the hands of globalists.
@@criticalhippo5927 Thank you for saying that. I've been having a hard time recently, and I found comfort listening to songs from the 80s. I'm trying to live in the present;)
It was normal. We read books, we talked to each other, we wrote letters, we played in the streets until dark, we talked on the phone… I was born in 1960 and am so glad I didn’t grow up with “socials” dictating my every thought process. I learned critical thinking not mass psychology… yes we have the world at out fingertips now but there is something to be said for being totally, completely, unplugged.
I dressed up as Freddie today for Halloween and wore what he wore in live aid, I always tell myself and others that if I could time travel to the past one thing I would do is go to live aid and see queen in person at their best performance of all time. RIP Freddie Mercury, I wish I could have been alive when you were, it would have been a dream come true to see perform you in person and maybe even meet you
in my opinion, queen is the best band of all time. i'm only 19, but queen has had a huge impact on my life. music is my favorite thing on the planet, and i quite literally listen to everything, but absolutely no one could ever top queen. if i only had 5 minutes and 55 seconds left in my life, i would want to spend it listening to bohemian rhapsody. freddie mercury is the best performer i've ever seen. i wish i was alive when he was. long live queen.
I am 82 years old and unfortunately missed the live Freddy. Too busy with carriers, family and life. I saw the movie Bohemian Rapasdy and was amazed by Queen. Better let than never. The group and FP will never be duplicated. I can listen to their music over and over and never get tired of it.
The groups of today can never be compared to the groups of the 70’s & 80’s. Groups like Peter Gabriel, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen & Rush will never again be seen or heard on this planet again. There was so much meaning in their songs that spoke to the issues and problems that were going on in the world back then. The bands today rate maybe a 2 on a scale of 1-10, IMO. The above groups of those times are & will be forever the greatest bands of all time. I enjoyed those times so much, there are no words to describe how much I miss those days. Seeing those bands live was an experience I will cherish till the day I die, which is not far off unfortunately.
Queen was gaining fame far before my time, and Freddie died 2 years before I was born. But their songs are popular to this day, and they even hit a chord with me. This performance gives me chills. He was electric, iconic. Queen is and always will be icons.
Our parents are usually the ones that first introduce us to great music made before our time. I grew up in the '80s, but my mother used to force us to listen to "her music" (the '60s) in the car and I grew to like much of it.
Freddy was one of a kind. No CGI, no autotune, no fake, only pure talent. You can hear his voice breaking, but he still gives all there is to give in him despite all the pain allready.
@@do2219 No, but he *did* have a nasty throat infection at the time, and his doctor had advised him not to perform. His response was that the show must go on. And he killed it, because he was Freddie Mercury. That's why his voice *does* crack a couple of times, and he goes out of tune a few times like he normally never did live. He wasn't well at the time, but it also wasn't AIDS related like that stupid movie implied.
When I was 17 and decided to give up on church and Jesus I looked up to the sky and with anger in my heart I renounced God. The next day I went to a cd store and bought the maroon cover Queen Greatest Hits Album I don’t know why I chose it but queen literally liberated my prisoner religion soul. Now after two decades I love my God without having to go to church and I listen to this awesome kind of music. Thank you God for talents like queen.
This man was an amazing singer and performer. Unbelievable singer. Im 53 and Queen was my first favorite band in high school. Queen remains to be my favorite band. Legendary.
Some moments in history are just to big to fully understand, this is one of those moments. Freddie didn’t just move the crowd that was there, he moved the world all at one. He unified the world for 20 minutes. Any who listens can feel unity with the world. RIP Freddie Mercury and thank you for this moment
@@Konomi.Himura true lol, but it doesn't change the fact that he indeed did leave a mark in history and his death had a massive impact on the rock world
@@Konomi.Himura . Not sure if you are old enough to witness it live, but it was a weird time in history then.

My 22 year old son thinks he’s the greatest performer ever.
Here we are November 2024 THE Queen still the best who does relate ?
No one will ever ever ever come close to the talent and showmanship of Freddie. Evah!
Check out Mexican singer Juan Gabriel, amazing talent we had
Watch Bowies last concert as Ziggy Stardust at Hammersmith Odeon, 1973. Not saying he is a bigger showman than Mercury but if I had to pick, I would definitely chose this concert every time someone asks me "If you could travel back in time, what concert would you got to?" ;)
For me it's Elvis Presley he's always been my top choice. Like others have said MJ and Prince they're not in the same league at all. They're good, just not their level.
My favorite story about this performance is that the first thing Freddie heard when he stepped off stage was his good friend Elton John, paying him a compliment by telling him “Thanks a lot you just fucked it up for the rest of us!”
they could not match him!
LOL
Bowie was the one man who could come on after him
I thought it was Bowie who told Freddie to "f**k o**, don't expect me to go on after that"

Love it!!
Nicely said.

Disagree.
The funniest thing about this was that no other band wanted this particular spot in the show. But Freddie was smart enough to know it would be broadcast in the USA at prime time and he took it over his agent's objections. People who had never seen Queen live got a taste of the magic, talent and charisma of the group. The rest is history.
Thats dumb, it was around noon in America that time.

But I will NEVER forget that day 😊
Today it is shit, sad to say.
Yes, a rock concert was freakin AMAZING!! Been to many but sadly, not Queen. So sad l missed out on seeing Freddie. RIP Freddie ❤❤❤ A huge fan!
Did you go to school on a sunday?🤭
Clearly the news was released the next day which is when we all mourned. Thete is a time diffferemce too. Lol. No internet back then. Not everything was immediate then.

My son asked, how can so many people come when there is no social media to announce such event. Told him, son, our times was a unique era that can never be duplicated. He knew it was going to be the last time he performed live, as did his fellow Band Mates, Family and certain close friends, etc.
@@brisvegasblonde6191 I don’t want to say you are wrong with your facts but live Aid was not Queens last live performance with Freddy. Queens final live performance with Freddy out front took place on 9 August 1986 at Knebworth Park in England. Freddy would pass away from the AIDS Virus late 1991.

An outstanding performer who can lead a huge crowd like this no one would come close to Freddie Mercury.
Neste milênio não vai existir alguém tão cedo com esta genialidade.
This man was an amazing singer and performer. Unbelievable singer. Im 53 and Queen was my first favorite band in high school. Queen remains to be my favorite band. Legendary.
i'm 36 and i'm a fan of Queen.
...невероятный певец...

Some moments in history are just to big to fully understand, this is one of those moments. Freddie didn’t just move the crowd that was there, he moved the world all at one. He unified the world for 20 minutes. Any who listens can feel unity with the world. RIP Freddie Mercury and thank you for this moment
that's quite exaggerated.
@@Konomi.Himura true lol, but it doesn't change the fact that he indeed did leave a mark in history and his death had a massive impact on the rock world
@@Konomi.Himura . Not sure if you are old enough to witness it live, but it was a weird time in history then. Most of America, and some of the world, was still indifferent towards the gay community and still rather hostile. For me, to see a gay man (person) that compassionate about something, like most of us, despite what people think of him, and to think he had half the population in his hands was pretty remarkable to this teen. I’ll never forget it. I did feel like I was connected to the whole world. Not only to make a difference but celebrate Freddie and all he is
@@jabronie8058 like you said, "for me", you're exaggerating it quite a lot, acting like your feelings were the worlds feelings. I've been to live aid, and they were a big deal, but it really wasn't a unified world big deal....
@@Konomi.Himura not really you do know that 40 % i think they say 1.4 or 1.6 billion of the worlds population watched this
Namibia 🇳🇦, Africa. September 2024. I suddenly had the urge to listen to Queen again! He was a master. 💪🏼♥️♥️♥️
this always brings me to tears. millions of people with different lives singing along with four legends.
I feel what you are saying. It was magical! Wish I could have seen them live!! 🥰
Best 22+ minutes of pure talent in a concert I have ever heard. Queen is still relavent today. Amazing group.
Aesons!
What a performer. His energy is what live music is all about
STRONG PERORMER
Wahtching this in November 2024, in 1985 I was eight years old, and I’m a big fan of Mr. Freddie and passed this love for his music to my son, who now is 21 years old. Now I’m 47 and as my son says this is a Masterpiece ❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
As a straight 74 year old married family man I can only say that Queen's performance was the Greatest Humanity Driven experience that could be had. Freddie MUST be with God in Heaven performing for the Angels. If you listen you can hear him now !
I thank the heavens above and hope this is true
Hi man this is a piece of amazing comments...I'm 30 years old married too and it's interesting to think that in 44 years I would still be listening and repeating your words
Queen sucks
Not sure about all of that but he was epic.
@@iociccio936 why are you telling me this
