You can pry Keto from my cold dead hands. Been on Keto for 4 mos, I am down 50 lbs and have never felt better. I can cheat here and there with no consequences but I still come back to Keto every time. It is where my body wants to be. No inflammation, healthy gut, tons of energy and great mental focus. The keto diet could cause low blood pressure, kidney stones, constipation, nutrient deficiencies and an increased risk of heart disease. Strict diets like keto could also cause social isolation or disordered eating. Keto is not safe for those with any conditions involving their pancreas, liver, thyroid or gallbladder.

Ive been bangin that drum for years! Im an avid cook and know that fruits and veggies taste much better when eaten in season. My grandparents were immigrants to this country from Italy, and my grandmother never cooked out of season even though she was here. In Italy and elsewhere they usually only sell what’s available in season in their open air markets. Before supermarkets and refrigeration, your only option was to eat what you had stored that could be kept over or had canned in/for the winter months and the fresh things were eaten obviously when they were at their prime. I still shop that way but it is so tempting to get veg and fruit from out of the country in off months, I’m only human lol.

For those who are watching their blood pressure along with weight, this may not be a good thing. I can see cycling off keto for a short time in terms of calories and a judicious increase in carbs, but I can't see the need for high carbs during the times cycling off. I went on keto for three months to lose some excess weight, came off gradually and really missed how great and healthy I felt eating keto. I missed not feeling hungry most of the time! The only downside of keto was trying to find things to eat when out and about, and having to say no to people offering food to eat or try. I'm back on again now. 😊

Crazy that you have made this video when i have just literally found the perfect balance of keto/carbs in my diet.
Ive been doing strict keto on/off (mostly on) for past 2 years and loved how i feel and look. As an extremely bad sugar addict this is the only diet that works for me to lose weight and stay in shape so i am fully committed to making this diet work long term.
However, i found with my job being very active and going the gym 6x per week, the stress was too great on my body and my sleep and performance suffered as a result.
I would hold alot of water around my mid section aswell and could not carry on even though i looked great it was too taxing on my body (i test my ketones and am always between 0.8 - 2.5)
So i started experimenting with refeed days and found once every week to have a carb refeed and it worked wonders for my sleep stress and physique, but after a couple of days back into ketosis i would be back in a stress out state poor sleep poor performance low energy. (It only takes me a day to get back into ketosis)
So after 2 years of trying to find the right balance of keto/carbs, i decided ontop of my keto diet to do 5-7 rice cakes of a night to help with the sleep, with a protein yoghurt (no fat in this meal/snack) as a pre bed snack....
and wow!!!!!! my sleep is deep and consistent, the water weight from stress has completely gone, i feel full of energy the next day (my sex drive has gone thru the roof) and best of all i test my ketones and they are where they are usually at midday! My muscles are sooo full and my strength is great and i feel euphoric all the time as i did when i first started keto.
My carbs usually end up about 50-70gs per day but its not effecting my ketons much atall!
I cant believe its took me 2 years of blood sweat and tears to figure this out i thought maybe it was depression or whatever but no, ive been doing this for the past 3 weeks now and i literally cannot fault it, im so happy.
And ill be happy if i can help anyone else suffering with fatigue on the keto diet that has tried literally everything else by reading my experience!

After research and listening to Thomas. I realise our bodies adjust to the way we eat over time, so we have to shock it sometimes.

So, you mention taking a break from the Keto diet. I've tried doing that and all of the issues I had before going on the diet came back almost in the same day. I remember back during the holidays I took time off because it's impossible to do Keto during this time so I took 4 days off. Awful 4 days. Yeah I got to eat a huge variety of food I hadn't eaten in 3 months but I also got back GERD, gas, bloating, inconsistent sleep patterns, brain fog, etc. I feel 3 times better on Keto than off so why would we want to take a break? And for how long? I can still do IF but being off Keto means it's much more difficult to fast 18 hours. I did IF this time last year for 4 months and ended it in June for no reason but I remember having to really force my will to wait until noon before eating and when I did, it was a Whataburger meal. I maintained my 185 lbs then but now I'm closer to 160. I would think eating that now would cause me to gain back my weight which I don't want to do.
So I'm asking instead of taking an extended break, what about the occasional cheat day? Like the holidays, there are times when I am faced with eating out with no options. Like for Mother's Day today. My wife wants to go our favorite Pho restaurant and we haven't been in 7 months because of me. So I'm going to take off today and resume tomorrow. Yeah it'll kick me out of Ketosis but so what? I'll be right back into Ketosis by Tuesday. It's not like I'm going to gain back my 30 lbs over one day. Because I've been on this for so long, it won't take me long to be full any way. Taking Keto off for a day doesn't mean I can't continue to do IF.

    • @catpatrick3838
      @catpatrick3838 3 ปีที่แล้ว

During the holidays I managed to find keto recipes for all my favorite holiday treats/foods. Fudge, pecan pie, cookies, even egg nog. I made the traditional versions for people who were not keto and everyone was happy. At parties I would stick to foods I knew (or thought) would be low carb, sipped a single glass of red wine for the duration of the party/get together, or just drank water. Like you, I feel awful if I go off keto so I found ways to enjoy holiday foods and stay keto. I did gain a couple of pounds during the holidays due to eating too many calories but I still felt great. Those few pounds were easy to get rid of once I was back in my normal routine.

@Patrick Dezenzio I went too quickly from the Standard American Diet (SAD) to a limit of 20 grams of carbs per day with a fasting period of 20 hours and a feeding period of 4 hours, and languished for weeks with the keto flu. I eventually learned about dirty keto vs clean keto and more specifically what foods and drinks work better. Mildly suffering the keto flu for way longer than many folks, I was keenly interested in this concept of cheat days. However, I'm too timid to cheat much at all for fear of backsliding. I'm actually down 50 pounds in 4 months, and am just about at my target weight, so it's not the weight I'm concerned with. I'm more concerned with my pre-diabetes (diagnosed by two different M.D.s), my insulin resistance (assumed since I have pre-diabetes), my fatty liver (self-diagnosed), and maintaining my energy. Thomas DeLauer's suggestion is that one could and maybe should cycle back and forth between keto/IF for 3 months followed by a diet with considerably more carbs for 3 weeks. I'm too timid to go with more than between 20 and 45 grams of daily carbs. I'll have a fairly tame cheat day once a week followed by a 24 to 40 hour fast, and then it's back to the daily keto/IF. (My eating strategy keeps evolving.) Another prominent TH-camr, Dr. Eric Berg (DC), states that to reverse a fatty liver it could take up to (as I recall) 8 months of uninterrupted ketogenic eating. I'm not sure I've got the intestinal fortitude to do that (pardon the pun).

My dad started Atkins in the 70's as a professional cyclist looking for his top performance. He is 77 and looks nearly 50. People think we're on a date. 😅 Hang in there. I started Keto because I'm a type 2 diabetic. I had a stroke in January and had to make a change. My question is, how long or how will I know when I've been on keto long enough to make my insulin resistance drop and be safe to cycle off for a while? I'll never go back to crap food like doughnuts but I'd love a bowl of spaghetti or a couple rounds of sushi. My blood sugar initially on keto dropped to about 120 (off meds) from 170 on meds. It's been going back up slightly the last couple weeks (about 135 off meds) so I think the insulin resistance is fighting keto and tapping my protein for glucose. Oddly enough, I started back at the gym at about the same time my glucose went up also.

At 10:27 you say the word Mute, when it is actually Moot. As I said, very minor, but I thought you might appreciate the difference. :D On a personal note, after 4 months on Keto, I had a complete metabolic work up done. Previously, my fasting glucose was 106. Now it is 89. All my other metabolic markers improved, and I'm waiting on my lipid profile with HDL and LDL particulates. My doctor is amazed at the results, tells me what I'm doing is working, and to keep it up. I've even convinced him to look into Keto further for himself. He told me "you look different from the last time I saw you" (4 months ago). I'm 65, I went from 237 to 173, and I still have some visceral fat to get rid of, but making amazing progress. My Total cholesterol was 275 before I started. looking forward to seeing what that current results are... Keto for the win baby!

Years ago I went on a commercial keto diet. I've forgotten what they called it. You cut out all carbs until you went into ketosis, then you added back carbs a bit at a time. They had you check urine while you dieted. I wound up adding back 80 grams of carbs and still remained in ketosis and still lost weight slowly. My friend, who was on the same diet could not go above 20-30 grams. I guess that means I'm a pretty decent fat burner, but you wouldn't know it from looking at me. 😀

I dont think so. Keto and IF is not something to on and off. U will start inflamation and etc when off and decrease it when on again. No need. Once ur on keto, find other things to make urself happy other than eating crap food or carbo. Keto is not a diet, its a healthy life style proven in thousands of years. In last 100 years or so with development of food "industry" of satanists, we were forced to forget or never know real food and healthy life style. Once u get on keto, never leave it. The brain fog that disappears and clear mental state and the feeling of trust it gives u alone should suffice u to stick to Keto and IF. Believe me, Ive experienced it and know what Im talking about. Yes Thomas is a good presenter with a lot of knowledge, thanks to him, but promotes go on and off and do paleo and others time to time because he's selling products for different diets so u can buy them and he can make more money. Honestly, I think Thomas has got the right idea about diet shifting. I know a lot of people have mental and emotional challenges around eating (probably all of us with weight issues, including me), so I understand not wanting to let go of the thing that works. I also think that each human has a completely different psychological and metabolic and health situation, so I also believe that there is no "one size fits all" approach. That said, considering the incredible span of human history and the variety of food sources available to our ancestors(or unavailable as the case may be), I think that most human bodies were not meant to eat one restrictive diet in life. Many of our ancestors were probably the best adapted to shifting diets, and fasting as their dietary environment changed. I will say what the scientist says: I could be wrong. Either way, I look forward to hearing more science about the effects of changing between discrete diets.
