New WIX & WIX XP Oil Filter Review and Comparison

  • I really liked this comparison of the new WIX filters, still looks like a good filter for the money. I do believe though, there is different build quality involved now in there building. I was sure that the older filters used a coil spring instead of the leaf spring and the filtration on the cheaper filter seems different. The Filtration on the older XP also seems better than the new XP. Why has some of our reliable filters seem cheap now? I guess it's about money now and not about saving the engines from dirty oil deposits.

This is the first time I am seeing the new wix construction... Looks like when they went to Mann and Hummel they went to the Purolator build.. that is definitely a Purolator bypass!!

Exactly true, I will be opening Purolator Boss and compare it to Wix XP. Hopefully the Boss will have a few improvements over XP for the cost of the Boss.
      Thanks.

Same adbv material, both silicone. Inlet holes fine, way more total area than inner diameter area, engine block mounting stud. Both sealing gaskets same, nitrile. Again, fine. Bypass type, flat spring type used by Purolator for decades. Since both now owned by M&H, Wix moving to that type dome bypass. They work fine, Pressure = F/A, been tested and confirmed. Standard Wix uses a blended media, vs XP full synthetic media now polymer backed. The standard Wix actually higher rated efficiency than XP. 'New' Napa Plat identical to XP, polymer backed media. Kinda hoping to catch a glimpse of date codes perhaps to determine which the factory.

Thanks Faxmen, I will show Date codes in my next filter video. Making a run to the Amsoil store tomorrow to see what they have for me.

I came across your video while looking up oil filters for a Mitsubishi outlander. The OEM MZ690072 is around $10 - same price as the wix xp, but has a filter area 142 sq inches. This wix xp has a filter area of 79 sq inches and this regular wix has a filter area of 108 sq inches.
The filtration is at 20 microns for wix and unspecified for the Mitsubishi.
The adb material is the same and the bypass valve is also quite sturdy.
So does this this wix xp have and redeeming qualities or pass on it?

Thanks Anonymouse, I haven't looked into Mitsubishi filters as yet, I will see if I can pick one up to look into how there made. I am hoping the Wix XP would be as good as the Mitsu filter.

@@crazybillsgarage hey I actually found one of your videos where you dissected a Mitsubishi filter. It's made by Denso in Thailand. I bought a 5 pack of them and already did my first oil change. Very easy to work on the outlander. Many thanks for your knowledge and please keep them coming!

    What do you recommend now?

It is really getting hard to recommend a filter, I never know if it will be good for that person. For my self I use a wide variety of oil filters but my favorites still are Champion labs and some Purolator filters.

Wow 208Lbs on that Wix XP that's some heavy duty filter! 😂

I think I’ll stay with the regular. Do. NOT like the flat spring at all. CHEAP!!!!! I don’t like the idea of plastic in the media. Break down??? THANK YOU for the video.

Yes the regular does a fine job of filtering oil, the new XP is just not my kind of filter anymore.

Just bought two of the xp filters for my jeep compass trailhawk, looking into the inner metal core, the punched louvers are not open very much and some aren't even open at all. Makes me worry about oil flow and back pressure. Should I use these on my $37,000 SUV? Or trash em. Won't buy WIX or anything made by their new owners, I have more faith in the Walmart super tech filters than WIX.

They should work, but if you don't trust them then get something else. You will feel better if you trust a filter, sounds like you take good care of the Compass. I haven’t opened a Walmart filter yet.

Yes Looney, I really don't want to use Wix anymore after they have cheapened America's best known filter.

@johndaltroff2241 lower cost make filter more expensive sounds just right for filters nowadays. Thanks John.

they need to improve their quality, the assembly of those filters is not good, and they have uneven pleats and glue everywhere, I don't mind the nylon backing of the XP but if they want me to buy one they need to improve their quality.

    • @crazybillsgarage
      @crazybillsgarage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Your right Bud, I may have skipped over the pleats a bit and the glue problem. WIX was America's best filter in the past in my opinion and now it feels cheap like something from China. I was disappointed in the filter now built by Mann+ Hummel.
